[Q]which moboplayer codec - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which moboplayer codec should you download for the NC? Is ARM V7_NEON the correct one?
Thanks,
jmak10

I also would like to know that. Though somewhere I read it generally automatically installs the correct codec, under settings > about moboplayer mine shows version "1.2.145_universal"--does that mean it missed the NEON codec pack?
Also, I can't find the ARM V7_NEON codec on the market via Nook or PC, just listed as an .apk download on MoboPlayer's homepage (site down atm)--is this normal?

The neon version is the one everyone recommends. It wasn't in the market for me, but once I installed it, it updates through the market (and there's an internal updater).

I installed it manually, but nothing seems different in About Moboplayer, elsewhere in settings, etc. Is there any way to confirm the install worked?

Questions:
a) has anybody got hardware decoding to work?
b) if so, which Codec are they using? options are:
ARM V5te
ARM V5te_VFP
ARM V6
ARM V6_VFP
ARM V7_VFP
ARM V7_VFPV3
ARM V7_NEON
c) Are there any changes you need to make to the app settings to make it work?
d) Can you decode 1080 mkv/mp4 with it smoothly? or do you have to recode everything to 1024x600?
Thanks for you time and assistance. If you haven't used this player, definitely check it out, better than others out there, but its all personal preference.

I used MoboPlayer and my favourite cartoon in *.mp4 freezed at 80% of it's 700mb file. After installing NEON codec and setting Software decoding for *.mp4 everything became OK...

Winmo6 Codec Pack?

Hey, I was wondering if there's a windows mobile 6 codec pack available anywhere. I'm trying to play some xvids w/ ac3 audio.
Check out TCPMP or core player. I think they have some links with different codec links. In fact, it may have built in support for what you want.

I use TCPMP for DivX and it works great. I think you might be able to get other codecs too....here is a cab file for ya.. Hope it helps.
Flash Video
For viewing flash video (such as youtube), install the cab attached to this post in combination withTCPMP: http://discussion.treocentral.com/showpost.php?p=1319431&postcount=1

HD2 media player

Looking for a favour ASAP please guys (i.e, before I go to work :-D). I want to be able to transfer .avi files onto my phone and play them, and after searching around, installing stuff (such as Coreplayer & TCPMP), I've decided that they don't support .avi's, OR I've just downloaded the wrong .cab for my HD2.
Can anyone provide me with a link to a good-.avi-playing media player for my HD2 pretty please?
If it matters I'm just using the bog-standard 1.43 ROM at the moment.
Thanks for your help guys.
core supports avi...actually it supports mkv and ogm as well
there is a limit of size
if the file is above the normal 855x485 limitation that will cause problems and you will only hear sound and no video. But core supports those file types
heck I love watching my noir ogm. Try to go to options and ensure you have chain's graphic driver and 100% smooth...it'll make a difference
So why do I get 'Unknown file type' errors when trying to play .avi files? Both TCPMP and Core
Any answers quickly please?? Hate to be pushy, but I've got just under an hour.
Just two quick suggestions:
1) Do the files work on your PC?
2) Your phone is unplugged from your PC when you try to play?
3) Have you tried loading the .avis from within the app rather than just clicking on them in File Explorer?
Thanks for your help buddy.
Yes, to all 3 questions mate. Is there a codec pack or something for the HD2? As a very select few play OK, yet most don't, but they are all .avi, makes me wonder if it's a codec problem.
Did u try this version of tcpmp?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634951&highlight=tcpmp
Yeah just tried that one, same problem mate. Weird, huh?
That's weird. I can play .avi files with that version of TCPMP.
Copied straight over, or do you convert them first?
I copied straight to my storage card. What's the resolution of the video? Try playing different .avi video, i.e different size, different resolution , and see if it works?

[Q] MX Video Player Codec for M2

Hi guys,
Want to know if our Milestone 2 requires any codec for MX Video Player (which codec type?)
Is it the ARMv7?
Yes CPU is ARMv7. It can see in GScript Lite>CPU information or type in same terminal app "cat /proc/cpuinfo"

Thanks! But is it the ARMv7 NEON or ARMv7?
It prompted me to install the ARMv7 NEON codec

I don't use any codec in my MS2. All videos can be played perfectly without any external MX Player codec.

I don't use any codec, either.
The videos currently I have can play well.
I'm using tezet's CM7 on my ms2.

Previously I didn't have to install any codec either.
However hardware decoding had problems with lots of the videos i download and had to use software decoding, which also had problems at times.
Anyway, on the 2nd latest update 1.6e it prompted me to install ARMv7 NEON codec before I could use it.
Today it was updated to 1.6f, shall try to fresh install it again and then see if it prompts me for the codec again.
Could it be a problem with the ROM I'm using?
NEON is a instruction set that CAN be present on ARM v7 but i don't know if MS2 processor supports... Have you tried to install both and see which one works better?

Oh I see, thanks for that info.
Um currently I've the codec pack for ARMv7 NEON installed but so far I've only viewed low-res videos and .mp4 formats only which probably wouldn't have a difference at all even without the codec packs.
I could test but any suggestions which format and res should I test with to see any difference (if any)?
When you open MX player, if the codecs are missing, it'll offer to download them, and will point to the right one.

Nook HD Video File Support?

I popped over 4 files for my daughter. They are MP4, and the encoding doesn't seem simply to be the cause. The 2 that worked, one used AVC the other MP4 encoders. The 2 that failed were both under the MP4 codec. The only thing so far I see could be bitrate.
Do we have a spec sheet anywhere that has full detailed video file capability? So I know how to save the files for the Nook HD?
Yup, there is a spec sheet for video compatibility. It is located here:
nookdeveloper.zendesk.com/entries/22006856-nook-developer-reference-guide#_SupCodecs
Is that what the codec inside the nook support list or the actual hardware support list? Say if you are on CM10 or use different player, the codec can be different right?

My understanding: the hardware GPU is involved only so far as the system invokes it. The software actually determines the codecs. You can get more by downloading a player like BS Player with additional codecs. How well they will perform on the hardware depends some on the kernel tho...
Thanks!
And yes other players can support other files. Like on my old Droid X, added AVI and other support with a 3rd party player. Since this is for my daughter and I want to keep the Nook HD UI for child lock I need to match what it can do natively.
Ah HA, think I found the issue. Doesn't support more than 4.1 audio, the files that work are 2 channel, the ones that do not are 6. Going to give this a go, and should have it working.

Play any video format on Fire TV

This is probably not anything new, but I didn't see it on Google so here we go:
Play any video file on Amazon Fire TV:
1) Get StickMount + install: http://www.firetvnews.com/how-to-play-media-files-from-external-usb-storage-on-amazon-fire-tv/
-- Yes you will need root: link in link above
2) Get MX Player: http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad
3) Sideload VLC just like you did with stickmount
Profit
edit:
I think this VLC works better. Still a little buggy. BUT 100% better than nothing
2) Get VLC: http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=the.joevlc
edit 2
Replaced this VLC with MX it squashes bugs and wiorks 100% on FireTV, and H/w acceleration works just fine

What about music files?
I want to play some extremely high quality FLAC files (96khz 32bit and higher) that don't initially work on most devices.
I normally had to re-convert my 96khz 32bit FLAC files to a measly 44khz 24bit so they can play on my Trio T4300.
Can someone reccommend a way to play audiophile quality flac files on Fire TV?
Maybe some custom FLAC codec to install for obtaining higher quality FLAC support.

For both broad video file format support and FLAC support, I recommend XBMC. You will find that a keyboard is helpful to connect when first setting it up if you're looking to define file paths on your home network. I play my media off of a NAS and XBMC is quite nice.
Adding it to the homescreen can be done by installing Lama, and then using a "sacrificial app" to launch xbmc as a condition of, essentially - you set a Lama trigger that says "when app X is running, run XBMC."
All of that can be done with sideloading - no root required, and although I used root to replace the Fire launcher with XBMC as a launcher, I'm told you can do the launcher swap with Lama as well.
Is there any less diffifcult app to install alongside a codec with full FLAC support.
I don't really care all that much about xbmc because it is designed like a swiss army knife for media when all I need right now is a standalone FLAC player with full 96khz+ and 32bit support.

Interesting. I just installed stickmount to test (I mostly have my keyboard in the USB slot) and was able to play a FLAC file, an AVI, a WMV and an MP4 file from the USB stick I put in.
I'm using the 13.1 that was modified to behave as a launcher, but as far as I know it's otherwise a pretty standard 13.1 build.

Try sideloading MixZing? I think it does FLAC. I really like it on my phone and it knows about folders, which is helpful.
I found a better one called JetAudio Basic.
It even has playback speed control with or without pitch shift.
I downloaded a 192khz 24bit FLAC test file,and it plays perfectly!
Edit:I found an even better one called DeadBeef.
I hope it isn't downsampling the 192khz FLAC file when playing it.
If so,can somebody reccommend a guaranteed 192khz FLAC player app?
I just updated OP, this app works MUCH better
http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad
In settings, you can check to make it function as an audio player too
IF amazon would just include this app,... and USB mount I would have no reason to root this box. Beyond ridiculous they cripple obvious features that are build into android (what their box is based on.)

The KFTV does not respond to any remote commands when playing a video in VLC. Not able to play/pause, rew/ff, etc. Any idea how to get it working proper?

hey use bsplayer, it works great. the fire tv remote works and it have dts. here's a link http://www12.zippyshare.com/v/69008312/file.html if you have a problem sending it through adb just rename it just bsplayer.
Ah yes.. I sideloaded this player to the wimpy firetv stick .. It works perfectly.. VLC seemed to want more power than the stick can provide. The combination of upnplay and bsplayer has worked out wonderfully..

* plays files with up to 192KHz sampling rate, including 24 bit and multichannel files
For anyone reading this thread in 2016, don't waste your life on the advice here: just get Kodi/SPMC or MrMC.
Yeah, I use Kodi exclusively on my Fire TV Stick. No need for root or anything.
But ...
After I upgraded to Jarvis (16), I noticed it hung on some videos, including ones it played fine before. So I went back to the older Helix version.
If anyone knows what's going on, I'd appreciate it. Is Isengard as good/better/worse than the other versions?
The situation of Kodi on Android is not too great and getting worse.
But apps like KODI are bulky swiss-army knives for media and many users reported issues with some even causing device instability when the app is not in use, what if someone wants a lightweight-but-powerful player for only music with full support for 192Khz?
