[Q] How much internal storage? - Milestone 2 General

I know it says 8gb, but can someone tell me exactally how much internal sd card space there is and how much space for apps /data. Thanks this is important so please answer if ur sure

It's 8Gb for apps/system/rom and comes with a 8Gb sdcard for music/photos/videos/your stuff, so -----> 8Gb + 8Gb. There's no need for app2sd in this phone.

Ite thanks mate but i dont mean to be annoying but can yiu say exactaly how much available space there is for apps e.g 1.1gigs & 6.5gigs internal sd, sorry :/

approximately 6,3 Gb free
all this space is for apps and system and cannot be used for the stuff
(indeed there is a trick for root users that want to use internal storage for user data, here)

Ah okay, im kinda put off by this phone the more i find out. lol would you recomend getting it? Also do you think its better than this phone... http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_u8800_ideos_x5-3596.php

Big NOTE: If you ever want to run a Custom Firmware (Like not using Motorolas Default Android) .. or want to update by urself (For example Run Android 2.3 before Motorola updates it (they are really slow)) then you should not get this fone.. this point annoys many people.. so just note that.. since i would never buy a Motorola phone again.

Only reason why I got this phone was because of the QWERTY keyboard. THe HTC Desire Z wasn't out yet and I wasn't too sure of the 'Z' hinge build quality. Also, not X10 Mini Pro cos that is just too damn small. But I am patient, unlike DeadSix17 which already wants to get rid of his phone.

My main things are texting, gaming & videos keyboard is great for texting whats gaming like? Heard theres multitouch issues & 3.7 i fine and has really good pixels

multitouch issues...maybe. But this is a fine device for your needs. Run a ps1 emulator and gaming will be like on a playstation. Texting is splendid and videos is very nice indeed. A really great phone with no support and a big lock on its door.

I've been well impressed with this phone, locked bootloader or not. Shame about the multitouch issue during gaming... hopefully it will get fixed in a later update. It doesn't make gaming impossible - i've managed to complete NOVA without any problems - just a bit frustrating at times.
Still, the best games to play are emulated stuff like SNES and PSX and these run like a charm, especially with a game gripper (google it!)

How bad is the multitouch then? I plan to play gameloft games and worry if they wont play well, also whats the neocore score like ive googled it but only comes up with mm1.

I have question about how to use internal storage? My sd card was full so I moved my music on internal storage because i had 6GB free there, but music apps can only see music files on sdcard. Anybody knows how to make usefull internal momory?

[Q] My Xperience with PLay

Ok guys. Just got my Xperia Play 2 days ago. Mastered the iphone os and want to explore the android os. So far my main question is what is rooting and why I should root my phone, what benefits I will have for doing this. On the iphone for example i had free games that usually you have to pay for (don't mind paying) and themes.
I'm looking for users opinions not links on some google searches. that i can do myself.
Also looking forward to get psp games on the play.

rooting is nothing like jailbreaking, and it has noting to do with warez, people root to gain read/write access to the /system/ directory on there device, this allows them to run apps that wouldnt ususally work on there device, it also lets them remove bloatware (preinstalled applications) and theme there android, rooting is usually a precursor to flashing custom roms too
I also am very new to android but am learning fast.
I've rooted my Play (Used gingerbreak, DEAD EASY!!)
I've paid for the full launcherPro, and also placed a request on their forum for the feature of locking the phone when you slide the phone closed.
However, I have NEVER used a custom ROM, and I am very skeptical. I had a Samsung Omnia HD i8910 with Symbian, and I flashed new firmwares to this because Orange just didn't update the damn thing so I unbranded it.
I have also removed some bloatware with a file manager app (plenty around) whilst having root access.
I also have app2sd to move apps to SD, but I have to admit only a handful have gone on to it. I have not yet done the adb command to default all future apps to SD.
I am keeping a close watch on this forum for any sign of updates/upgrades/custom ROMs. I like the idea of new themes and faster phone, but I would hate to lose ANY of the original functionality, I would feel robbed.
This is my first android phone too. Was unsure about rooting at first but im glad i did. After rooting with gingerbreak (took like 40 seconds) I installed titanium backup (no need for apps2sd, the phone itself can put apps on the sd and the stuff the phone cannot move, Titanium backup can e.g The preloaded games, now under 1mb instead of 30mb). Removed all the crap from the phone using the safe apps to remove thread. The phone now runs faster loads more ram.
If i was to give a reason to root. It would be adfree from the market. Best app ever. Hated ads on the free apps and i have not got a credit card to use on the market (yet lol)
Its seems though if you update to 2.3.3 you cannot root anymore. Google has fixed the exploit used by gingerbreak.
LOL

iPhone jailbreaking allows you to run custom software (kinda like homebrew emulators and such) not originally designed to work on the iphone.
Rooting as mentioned above is not this.
Custom software can run on Android phones without the need to root. All those emulators etc will work on any Stock Android phone.
Android phones give you read/write access to sd card directories. Rooting basically gives you root (phone memory) read/write access.
This is useful because it allows you to install custom roms on your phone (sort of like customised versions of the operating system), get rid of bloatware (for example, i deleted all my vodafone pre-installed software which was basically crap) and more excitingly overclock your phone.
Installing new roms and overclocking will require extensive programming knowledge, but luckily the guru's on xda normally produce their own versions which us mere mortals can download and use.
No custom Roms or the ability to overclock the Xperia Play has to my knowledge been released to us yet. YET.
For now, root your phone, install titanium, get rid of bloatware, partition your sd card, and move all your games to your sd card to free up as much phone memory as possible.
Change your sd card cache size to 1024 to improve phone speed.
And wait for the custom rom and overclocking goodness that im sure will be available within the next few months.
Hope this post helped, i too was a complete noob and just picked a few things up along the way from reading here and there
edit - Rooting is safe for a noob to do. Other stuff such as installing roms can brick your phone rendering it useless if you do not know what you are doing. READ THOROUGHLY before you do anythingslightly advanced. And sorry to say, but there are no psp emulators that i know of. You will not be able to play PsP games. Sucks, i know

You can move unmovable apps to the sd card by using link2sd, which will only work if you partition your sd card.
There might be other ways, such as manual commands, but i've never tried that way.

Link2sd is diffrent, it moves the .apk's to an sd-ext, then creates a symlink.

Thanks for saying this. I have been using titanium for a while but never knew it could move un-movable apps to the sd card.
The way i found out how to do it was batch moving in the menu you bring up with the menu button.
Appswap (paid version only) claims that it is the only program on the market that can do this. But know i know different !
Thanks
i just long hold the app and click "move to sd"

[Q] a500 memory?

hello I have been looking all over for how to do this or even if I can. I wish to move all my apps I have gotten off the market to my sd card and run them from their also when ever I download a new one they are saved their too. I am wanting to free up some memory. if it can't be done that sucks but oh well.
just rooted my tablet tonight but still using stock rom. thanks
Not possible in HC. Apps2sd doesn't work, maybe it will with ics...but should be a good while before you fill up even the 8gb model. Been some good comments about using GL 2 sd if you play games though.
k wasn't sure I had a buddy that says his Droid phone saves his apparently to his sd. card but I wasn't sure if I could thanks though

yes, it seems to be a honeycomb limitation, and so the droid can run it, since it will be on 2.2 or 2.3 .
Considering ICS combines the phone and tablet OS, it may start working then, or it might work for no one.

living without a SD?

yes im asking this. im on a HTC Desire Z now with a sd card and i wanted to know if its a big difference to live with or without a SDcard. is it do-able? i cant choose bitween the s3 and nexus 4
The SD card doesn't make a difference, you just have to figure out if you can live with 8/16 GB of storage. The answer is probably yes, if you are willing to use streaming services (google music, netflix, etc.)
I personally would not be able to live with SD cards in my life. I will have to end myself soon because Dropbox and Google Drive are taking over.
Oh well...

of course you can, just plug the phone into your computer and it gets recognized as a mass storage device...
I think 16GB will be more than sufficient for me. If it isn't than I will just get a USB OTG cable and use the current Micro SD card that I have. I have an adapter that I can plug the SD card into that allows it to be plugged into a USB port. So effectively giving myself access to expandable SD storage
Probably won't need it, but that's my plan.

eh man i am not complaining
Came from a G2 (with microSD card slot) to a Gnex, I have to say I didn't miss the card even a bit. 16GB is fine since I use Google music for streaming, and that's the majority part of storage. I don't use GNex's camera that much. I have a Canon D550 and there isn't a phone camera that could produce pictures even similar in quality.
You might want to mange your space a little, like deleting unwanted backups, not having a million Titanium backups, but it's manageable.
I must admit, although I would rather have a micro-SD slot, its really not a feature I'm over worried about in terms of storage. What concerns me is whether it increases the risk of flashing roms etc to the phone. I you brick you phone, is it not going to make it more difficult to unbrick it? Or can adb always push stuff to the phone one way or another?
Also, just to confirm, you personal data stored internally (in what I assume will be called the sdcard folder) is retained each time you wipe your phone, right?

intern is not your SD
I've got a GS3 with a 32gb SD Card (as well as the internal at 16gb) and now a 16gb Nexus 7. I have to be honest and say it does bug me. If you download nightlies and make a lot of Nandroids then your going to suffer to get used to it. There is no way I would recommend an 8gb. I travel a lot on flights and that is when I really miss the storage for music and films, but I do have the phone to fall back on. That said, there are plenty of iSheep out there that don't seem to struggle and Google Drive and Google Music are awesome services. Perhaps I'm the one that should be more tolerant.

Hey mazdarati2,
I came from the Droid Incredible to the Galaxy Nexus and I can tell you that having a large internal memory rather than the SD card slot is really not a big deal. At first, I thought I would miss it also, but I really wanted the Nexus. The only downside comes if you have a tendency to work with experimental/unstable ROMs, which can corrupt the filesystem on the memory and you will have to reformat and push the factory image with fastboot. When you do this, the SD memory partition gets formatted as well, which is a bummer and if you ever had any problems like that on phones with a physical SD card, you wouldn't have that problem. For the average user that doesn't use more than 8-16GB of space, it will cause no problems, in fact, it will be better because it gets rid of system confusion when saving pictures/videos/other files and then finding them when you connect to your PC. I hope this helps and sways your decision towards getting a nexus 4. It's a great phone and if you're on pre-paid, it will save you a lot of money in the long run! Good Luck!

The reason I assumed 'sdcard' folder, is because the LG 4X HD, which has both sd and 16GB internal storage places all of your user files in the sdcard directory independent of whether you are using an sdcard. The actual sdcard files are stored in '/sdcard/external_sdcard' which I must admit I found slightly odd.

Hi the thread already exist please suppress this one and next time search a little there is just two page ...
There are two apps I have used that do this fairly easily. Try either App2SD or Link2SD. Both do the same thing. I also believe AppMonster does, but I've never used it for this purpose. If they say you cannot move an app, it is probably because the MOJO sets the external microSD in a way that it is detected as emulated rather than physical. As I've yet to get a microSD to work at all, I cannot tell what the problem is...I just know from experience on the Acer A700 that -it- is set up so you cannot send apps to the microSD.

Most high end games are 500mb - 1gb or more. I like to play a lot of different games you know? Just kind of sucks that we can't move them to expandable storage at the moment. 16 GB is not going to be enough in the future when more games become compatible.

Apps to SD from Sony

Wasn't too sure if this was old hat or a new development as I've been using Foldermount for my apps 2 SD solutions.
GSM arena are reporting that a recent update will allow movement of apps to the SD card, they've also stated that this update is for the T2 variant and isn't available for the Z series but if a mod could take this and make it available for the Z series then it'd be a nice addition to our phones.

Why do you need it.
Pictures, music and videos are on SD card.
If you instal Huge games it will instal around 50-100mb on phone, and everything else on sd card (knows as SD Data).
You want about half of google play on your phone?
And what if I do? Is it better to have that option or not to? If I wanted limited Iphone or WP i would buy it at the first place!?

isn't sd data is when you could install app to sd?? given that now we don't have install app to sd, we don't have sd data?? so in that regards.... i think most games now are 1+ gb, so all that takes up storage on your internal. doesn't it? and we start off with.... 11gbs left? so assuming not everybody but some ppl that owns large games they could install about 10 games at most?

He is offering a solution for people...
You ate being rude "you want half of Google play on your phone"
If you aren't interested why even bother commenting aside from being snide?
Report me all you like, I'm not playing mod at all I just think you're being ridiculous considering the person is just trying to help others.
I have data I would like to free up. Dead trigger alone takes up 1/2 a GB.

Why do you need it.
Pictures, music and videos are on SD card.
If you instal Huge games it will instal around 50-100mb on phone, and everything else on sd card (knows as SD Data).
You want about half of google play on your phone?

That's wrong, huge games like san andreas, MC4 or Real racing 3 (in fact every game and application) install data on Memory, since on the Z serie there's 2 Sd cards, being main the phone memory
so you have Sd/0 and Sd/1, SD/0 is your phone memory and the one the apps/games use for data install, take out your SD memory and your apps will work fine since there's no data on it

Thats absolutely not true, when you install the likes of a gameloft game or an EA game, they're in sdcard0/Android/obb or android/data, these are both on internal memory, people who are rooted have relied heavily on apps such as folder mount for their gaming needs and the want to take the brunt of large install away from their internal memory, being at 16GB or less as it appears on android if you install 5 large games you'll see that your memory is very very low, using foldemount eradicates the need for your internal memory to be used up.
The reason I mentioned this features is because using foldermount and the like are all third party apps which people would go without if it were possible.
I don't need half of google on my phone no, not at all, i'll repeat what i said first so you understand, If you install five, (not fifty) just five large games then your internal memory is nearly full.
My install of GT Racing 2 900MB, my Real Racing 3 installation was over 1GB for certain, fifa i've seen go to over 1.5GB, it soon racks up. 100MB would be candy crush, i personally don't bother with the likes of them.
Thanks to everyone else with a positive reply Hopefully a dev will see this, it'll be nice if it were baked into a rom.
Apps to sd is very important to gamers

What a bag of turd some people are. Although its of no surprise. Its us, the bright human race at all. Ofcourse we need to ne able move or straight up install apps to SD. For the people who have reasons of their own against it, there's a new flash for you: dont use ot
@mneu777 I wrote that in the OP m8 But wouldn't it be nice if you didn't need a third party app? I use folder mount myself too, but would be nice if a third party app wasn't needed, eventually companies like Sony may actually notice that their high end phones have nowhere near enough memory in them for the apps that are available today, personally I think 32GB is a perfect allocation of internal memory, all flagships should give this much. Sony, Samsung and now HTC are all 16GB ( the models that I have to buy from here in the UK anyway)
That mod will be very nice !
I have a 2 gps programs ( i know there will be questons why 2 ? answer: becouse i need it !! ) and i use folder mount. It's working on games and other programs but not on my gps...i don't know why so 2 gps = 7 Gigs on internal and this mod for me will life save...
regards
