[Q][Survey] Is your Transformer still working? - Eee Pad Transformer General

After my Transformer "died" today and I keep reading of others doing the same, I would like to get a little overview how many devices are affected. Feel free to add your personal story or just vote, but this is not meant as a rant thread.
Mine was working nicely for the last two weeks without a single issue, apart from a little touchscreen issue which was more than bearable. Today it decided to not wake up after going to sleep while charging, HDMI still works, though.
greetz

My transformer somehow turned itself off when I was sleeping, and this morning it wouldn't turn on no matter how long I held the power button. 5 minutes later I try again and it turns on. It did drain 25% battery overnight somehow when it usually drains 3%. I never updated, it is still on the factory software. I haven't yet heard of this happening to anyone.

I put my vote in for light bleeding. But mine seems to be a bit different because one side of my LCD panel has a big gap in it. Waiting for inventory to become available so I can exchange it.

@frysee:
sounds familiar First batch of Transformers seem to have quite some issues...
My display stopped working from one minute to another and is now dead for a few days. Not even boot animation visible --> RMA.

so if I get any of the above issues what should I do?
maybe OP or somebody could put together a guide for trouble shooting?

Well, thats one part of the problem: For most of them, there is no workaround at the moment or they are hardware-related and not user-fixable. Make sure you check the numerous threads adressing the individual issues if you need help for a specific problem.

No issues and I've had it for a week+ now. I really can't count lightbleed since it's only visible at the brightest setting in a completely dark room and even then barely.
Also seems like the vast majority has a working device from the poll so far (aside from lightbleed since lightbleed still constitutes a fully functioning transformer).

My transformer really works great, even got it updated to 0423 via asus site today. Downside, my screen has random lines that glitch about two inches long. Thought the update would fix. Negative. Seems to be on darker colors. I thought it was softwar since the asus weather widget i can get it to follow with screen transition sometimes. I really dont want to RMA. Its only a millisecond long, but theres about 30 total, in no particuar order, at no particular time. Video this weekend.

well I thought there were some fixes or steps to trouble shoot for soem of the above problems in your poll since there are 6 people who "fixed" their device after having one of those problems as you can see....
just a quick question here since I don't want to start a new thread...once I get my transformer tomorrow, should I update to the OTA? or should I just download it from Asus's site and update?
thanks

Well, mine just died. Was working fine for a few days (received it Friday). Click the power button to turn off the display, walked away for about for ten minutes, came back, and it's dead as a doornail.
I checked HDMI, but didn't see a signal.

Did you try the hard shutdown? (hold power 15~20 seconds) and a cold boot?

I've held down the power button for almost a minute. Not a thing happens.
I've tried it plugged in as well (although the battery was around 50% when this happened.
Thanks.

Push and hold (5-10 seconds at a time) the power button a few different ways. Sometimes my screen doesn't turn on but holding it more towards the back works. I'll put up a video showing what I mean tomorrow but other then that it's flawless.
I love it and honestly it's far exceeded my expectations. If they tighten down on QC this will be the tablet to get. Home run for Asus.

well i have one ordered on backorder im about 200 down the list, gonna take a couple weeks for me probably.
in the mean time with asus saying they will only produce 10k a month instead of a target 300k they have no excuse not to have great QC, with so much less to do and less to produce it should be easier for them

anyone feel as though the device is a little 'squeaky'? as though the lcd may pop out one day?

It is not charging. At all.
And it has problems waking up from a deep sleep.

[Q] fingerprint reader slanted/broken in all devices?

Hi, is it just me or does the fingerprint reader seem broken/slanted/has a factory problem on all atrixes?
I didn't like the one I had, when back to att and told them that I want to check the display unit and it had the same issue, I asked if it's possible to check a third device to make sure and even the third device (new, out of the box) had the same thing...

i didn't even realize that until now.
feels fine to me and i'm sure there is some reasoning behind it
I've seen it mentioned before. Not sure how prevalent it is, but mine is not like that. Not sure if it's just a defective design or quality control issues...
Admittedly, mine is not perfectly straight but it's not something that I would have noticed if someone hadn't mentioned it or asked me to look.
Not every atrix is like this. I've been through a few and the one I have right now is lined up correctly.
Most also have an issue with the edges on the sides of the device not lining up. The left side is more flush with the glass than the right side.
Also, volume rocker is very loose on some of them (my current has this problem)
Definitely some build quality issues. I wouldn't bother returning your Atrix for something so minor, especially when the new one you get will probably have the same problem, and perhaps more problems.
It isn't "broken", that whole portion is the power button, and as such has some play to it. Since the read head is embedded in the button, it has to accommodate the connection which is applying torsion and is causing the tilt. This is fairly common with any button that has embedded components.

There's always a reasoning behind something. In this case, sloppy assembly comes to mind.
Mine is flush and won't tilt that far even if I try and make it.
Same issue here ... do I need to return it? It works fine though ...

OP: You must have asperbergers to notice and worry about something so small and mundane.
If they all have it, and they all seem to work, then why the **** would you say that it's broken? Maybe, JUST MAYBE, it was designed like that!
Question is what will happen after a couple of months down the road ? I don't want to get refurbished unit, right now I can trade in for new unit ....
It doesn't seem to be loose though ...
My first atrix's button seemed pretty solid but it was rebooting by itself so I exchanged it. The new ones button has a little give but works fine.

It's absolutely normal to have that tilt because, first of all, it's a button and all buttons will have some play, and second, the fingerprint scanner inside uses a ribbon cable to transmit the data and it just so happens that the cable attaches to the side that is lower. So, the reason it is "seated" like that is because the ribbon cable is sort of holding it down a little tighter than the other side which is being help up by the button mechanism.
You can see the cable here:
http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/NKu22l1eZ6Oc3FM2.huge
Mine is like that, but a little worse, the whole button seems recessed as well as slanted. My coworker's phone is perfect. button is flush on all sides. Mine started out flush and has deteriorated. I'm watching it for another week, and if it continues to get worse i'll decide what to do.
It also seems my button will stick in now and then, causing issues waking the phone up.
I didn't return the device and I don't think I will ... I was just surpriced that all 3 devices have the same issue, so I wanted to check with you guys and see if it's "meant to be" like that and motorola designed it like that or if it's just the batch that my area's att store got

Maybe the guys who have Atrixes (Atrices? lol) with flush buttons are the ones with defective units, LOL

Different issue but just as irritating

Just got my third n7. I've had a c60 model and a c70 model both with the screen lift issue. Finally got a replacement to the replacement today and was delighted to see no problems...until I turned it on.
Immediately the screen looked dimmer.
I've now done a side by side comparison, checking whether it is the auto light sensor but its dimmer on all settings.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a result of different screens they are using or have I just got another duff model?
I've attached a picture showing both on the lowest light setting so hopefully you can see I'm not just being paranoid.

Man that sucks looks like you might have to replace it again...
I just went thru same thing except my C6 screen was good, battery was bad. 2nd one was C7 and that had the lift, I just exchanged it today (got mine at Gamestop) for another C7 which seems good so far.
I was being a bit stupid actually because I had a thought that the c70 thing meant they were using different screens now, but just after I posted I realised that both those in the picture are c70s.
I suppose this means that it is a genuine fault.
Perhaps I'm being really unlucky but I think I might get a refund from google and go buy it from a proper shop where I can have a look before buying

It's not uncommon for a manufacturer to use different panels. Just do a search on the HTC sensation having different panels, also the HTC MyTouch 4G, and I believe the Xoom when it first came out had panels from two different manufacturers
That's more worrying. That might mean its pot luck whether people get a good one or not. You would think that Google/Asus would be aiming for consistency.
Its a shame really because this is a cracking device if only I could get a decent one. This is also the first one I've had where the power button and volume buttons are nice and clicky!

I just ran through my towns stock... [email protected] Meyer, [email protected], [email protected] all 7 had screen lift.. c70,c60 didn't seem to matter.. I never even turned em on, just had them open em while I was in the store.. huge bummer. Also waiting for refund to clear on the preorder I had.. that's 0-8!! Can I hate Asus now?

Yes I had this!. Believe it or not I believe it's the brighter one that is defective. I've had 4 different nexus 7s now, and only one of them was significantly brighter than all the rest, even on lowest setting. At first I thought it was better, till I tried reading in the dark and found it was super uncomfortable. I installed lux, which helped dim it, but since it's a filter it made my eyes hurt having it, I still don't know why. On top of that, I noticed it had light bleed on the left side.
Somewhere on these forums I posted a picture of the bright one next to one of the other ones, just like you did, I will try to find the pic and come back here and post it.
I just got my replacement for the ultra bright one, and it is dimmer on lowest setting just like the others, but based on what I've seen this is how it should be. I think I am finally done with the exchange game, this one has a slightly raised left screen, but no squishyness or sponginess, no light bleed or dead pixels, and not much flickering even at lowest brightness on Google maps. I'm keeping this one

OK, maybe its not as simple as I first thought then. Although I would say that my overwhelming impression of this new one is that it is too dim and I've never thought that from looking at my previous ones or ones that friends have. Certainly my previous ones are not painful to use in the dark.
Its difficult to say without lining them all up and comparing but there is a possibility here that you had a defective model that was too bright, I have a defective model that is too dim and all the others are just right - the goldilocks models
and this is exactly what i imagined happening as soon as i heard asus was making the tablet, sigh, i still bought one, and i will exchange it when the screen bothers me enough, but I am afraid of the result of going through the same level of nightmare

True enough. I've got an original transformer which I had 4 attempts to get a fully working, non light bleeding, non creaking, keyboard holding charge, speakers working model. I eventually gave up and settled for the last one they sent me which still had light bleed and an I'll fitting shell. The charger packed up when it was a year and a week old so at least I know it won't bother me again.
Not sure what happened to Asus, their netbooks used to be really well built and last forever, I've got a six year old one that the other half uses every day. You would have thought that it would be cheaper for them to invest a bit in quality control than all this shipping of replacements and reconditioning all the faulty ones

I think you are right. If you think it's too dim in general, and not just because you put them side by side at lowest brightness, then that is not good. It's frustrating but if you are willing, keep trying. I think I finally found one that I can live with, after four tries!

[Q] N7 has gray static-y screen before lock screen (picture inside)

Hi Everyone,
Sorry to intrude on the forums. I am usually a lurker. I never sign up for forums but this issue is driving me nuts.
I've searched everywhere for this issue, and it seems as though some Galaxy S2's might have had a similar problem.
I am hoping someone can shed light on this so I can try to fix it or RMA it (which I don't want to).
New Nexus 7 32GB Wi-Fi. Straight out of the box it has been showing a gray static like screen when turning it back on from stand-by. Sorry the description is bad. I want to include an image but newcomers are not allowed (understandable).
Here it is the picture: imgur[dot]com/lfq5Z.png
Please let me know if it's against the rules so I can remove it.
It sometimes flickers right before the actual lock screen pops up.
I tried resetting it, and it didn't work. I rooted it, and it still shows that. I have tinkered with settings.
I am at a loss. I'm not that knowledgeable, so can someone please offer some insight? Is it software or hardware related?
tl;dr Gray static screen flickers right before lock screen. Does anyone know why? Thank you!
I have this too. I know what you are talking about. My only thought is that it might have something with the way the device sleeps, since it seems to happen when you turn the device off after it being locked for more than a few secnds. Anyone have any ideas? Literally right before the lockscreen shows, the screen flashes gray for a millisecond...
I have the new 32 GB WiFi. I also don't have any problems with the devices, none that I can see. So far this gray flash is only cosmetic and doesn't cause actual problems. Still I'd like to know what it is.

Thanks for the reply and for posting the picture for me! I don't have any other issues as well. I'm just worried that it might get worse over time or something. My friend has suggested that it might just be software, so I'm hoping 4.2 fixes it.
I hope someone else comments with some insight.

from you image i see that you put it in a case. I am wondering if the case has a magnet that is affecting it? Another thing could be due to auto brightness. Try removing auto brightness and see if you have the same issue.

Thanks for the response! I considered the magnet as well. I took it off for a while, but it continued to do it. I had a previous Nexus 7 as well (which I returned because it had issues so I don't want to return again). That one had the same case on but it wasn't affected.
I will try the auto brightness later tonight and report back. Thanks

Yeah, it bugs me, but I don't really think it's worth a RMA. I'm mostly just worried it's hardware-related and it might get worse over time, or something.
My second N7 started getting the screen static after a month of use. It was followed shortly by screen ghosting issues. I was able to see a ghost image of the icons from my homescreen while still in the lock screen. I suspect that the static and ghost issues are the same/related. Google replaced that N7. So far my third N7 has been perfect.

If it only last for like a millisecond then whats the problem? shouldn't really bother you.
The problem is that it shouldn't be happening in the first place so we aren't sure if it's indicative of an underlying problem with the screen or if it's a glitch we shouldn't be concerned about. I'm keeping my N7 so hopefully there's no real problems.
The whole thing is really an aesthetics issue.

Pretty much what anthonycr said. I don't want it to to be a symptom of a larger problem that might get worse over time. And at any rate, I'd rather not have any issues for something that I paid for, especially if it's uncommon. It really just irks me every time I unlock my Nexus 7, but if it's not pervasive, then it's not a huge deal.
Yeah its irksome. I didn't pay for a defective piece of equipment. If it gets worse, I'm returning it.
Its really hard to understand that its annoying unless you've used a tablet it's happening to.

[ISSUE] Screen flickering ALOT and faded out with weird lines going down the screen

Woke up this morning to my phone being messed up.
Bunch of weird lines down the screen, the color of the screen is also faded out to whitish and its flickering ALOT. Very noticeable and definitely something wrong.
Any ideas?
Its failing??
Rma time.
Go back to stock if you aren't on stock
See if it still happens, if so, rma time.
K so I locked the screen and headed to work. Check the screen 1 hr later and its no longer flickering and there are no more lines.
Any ideas? Should I just RMA it?
My screen failed yesterday. For reference:

This kind of flickering has happened to me twice in the past month. Both times rebooting didn't seem to affect it, but it did go away when I let the phone sit for a few minutes. Happened once on stock and once on custom ROM. Makes me think its a hardware thing... First time it happened, the phone was very hot from intensive use

I took my phone out of my pocket once and when I pressed the volume rocker to wake it (running CM 10.1 + Franco r30) nothing happened for a few seconds, then I got lines similar to those. I thought I might have been seeing things because it experienced about 2 seconds of lag then unlocked right after. The screen was back to normal and I rebooted the phone. This was three days ago and I've had the phone for almost 2 weeks. I haven't had a problem since then. 16 GB Nexus.
Update: Happened again. Except this time I had flickering.I pressed to unlock my phone. Nothing happened, then It unlocked after a few seconds of lag. The screen was flickering, I rebooted, nothing changed, still flickering. Gave it a few minutes and flickering stopped.
ya, it happened to me once when I went snowboarding and it was -30. First time I pulled out my phone it did that too, I thought it was because of the cold though.
I think im gonna try to RMA it anyways
Just had this happen right now to me as well.
I took it off the charger but didnt unplug from the phone side. Randomly viewing Gmail. Screen times out. And i slowly start to see those ghost lines appearing. Phone woke up after a few seconds.
I'm running franco's r51 kernel, PA build 23 rom, Touch Control app, and the usual.
If it happens again, I'll go to stock and test. If it happens on stock, I'll debate on RMA'ing it. Dont want to be phone less for a month or so with the way Google's handling stuff....
This happened to me a bunch of times on various Roms so it made me think it was hardware rather than software. I didn't even see this thread till now so I thought I was the only one lol. My RMA comes tomorrow I suggest you all do the same better safe than sorry

Thank God! I thought I was the only one!
I have had my 16GB's screen flicker quite a lot just a few minutes back. There were lines drawing down from the screen and the screen was quite faded. Did not go away even after rebooting twice. But after some time the fadeness went away. The flickers were noticeable, but reduced. Now everything is back to normal!
Worried!! And LG is known for good quality screens! But I guess they have had bad quality phones earlier. If I am correct, their year-old flagship phone also had a screen issue which made it go downhill.
I am worried because I have got it sent to India where I am using it and cannot return it now!
Any official speak on this? Couldn't find anywhere. But with Google's track record, we may not hear much for a long time.

Cant replicate it. I was on a kernel thread and same thing happened to another person on a different rom while he was charging. Mine happened after i immediately unplugged from outlet but not from phone side. The stupid buzzing from the charger may have something to do with it, imo.
screen flickering running down screen, with all kinds of pixels and shotdown
Same problem, but no more warrenty on mine
I have a galaxy note GT n7000 that started getting slow so I rooted it first with PhilZ JB Rom. That went fine for half a year then it started shutting down now and then. I don't know why. SOme times I saw a little flickering just before it went out when low on the battery, but no big stripes
I then installed the latest Asylum omni rom 4.4.2 together with the new CWM and Gapps. Worked fine for a week then started comming white stripes running over the screen or the screeen until it shut down or sometimes freezing the screen and tiny green dhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon9.gifots getting clearer on the screen.
I then changed the battery today, but the problem is the same.
What should I do - are there any Roms that may be lighter on the energy on the phone?
Is the phone /screen / other hardware dead?

HTC bolt half screen black

Wanting to know if anyone else is experiencing this issue of half of the screen going black and then back to normal wanting to know if it's due to the last update ( didn't start happening until I took the new ota few days ago) anyway to go backwards without complete format not rooted yet or else wouldn't care but unsure of worth rooting or nor due to not enough information nor roms or kernels yet so anyway anyone let me know of there experienced the same issue after the last update thanks

only way to go back is being s-off....can u post a screenshot? u sure it's not the split screen feature?
screenshot
It's not the split screen feature it's str8 black on right side and it seems to only happen after the update google on it and you will c
The same issue
I have just the same problem . To be honest, I was "5 minutes away" to go the store as my HTC 10 Evo/Bolt is 5 days old only. But if that not "my unique case" then the update may be the reason.
Did you post any info directly to the HTC?
Please stay in touch as I'll do.
Black Screen
I started experiencing the same issue in December, in addition eventually the issue progresses to screen artifacting and flickering. I am on my second phone and about to send that one in for a replacement due to re-occurrence of the issue.
HTC has about a four week turn around time, so beware. If you have really bad issues ask to speak to the escalations supervisor.
Many people are experiencing this issue. Some have gone through 3-4 replacements already with each new one having the same issue. My BOLT only experiences this when I pull it out of my pocket and unlock. Can be fixed temporarily by giving the right hand side of screen a firm tap. Anybody have any ideas on a fix?
I'm on my 3rd phone due to that issue. You just have to exchange it. No way to fix it.
Mine just started jumping around only on the right side has not blacked out yet

my Bolt is not currently active, so I haven't been using much, but I do recall the screen jumping around once when I pulled it out to check something...just checked it again and it's fine...weird
I wonder if anyone has a perfectly working (for months) and not overheating bolt. I've gone through 3. Should be recalled.

Im curious if you have taken all the OTA updates? My Bolt was fine for about 3 months before i had severy lag issues but not the screen problem. I took it back yesterday and got a new one. My new one is on an old software version 1.15.651.11 and there have been 3 updates since this version. I have not updated yet.
Thanks,
Yes, def it was after the Android OTA updates. Curious if anyone experience the problem with updating.
Just got bolt #3 let's hope this one stays good

I have taken all updates and so far have had no complaints the only time I've had it get warm was when I was charging and playing Pokemon go. No unusual lagging or screen problems so far I am also unlocked and s off I have flashed bb rom and am currently stock right now between the two I have had I good experience so far I hope htc gets the kinks out because this phone even though has an older processor is a good device.
I took .6 so far so good haven't noticed excessive heat

I too like the phone except for the kinks. I have taken OTA for .15 anc .22 without any issues. Then after about another day it is telling me to update to the new 1.32.651.6. everything is good but i guess i will take the update and hope for the best.
Recently I've been having trouble with the screen staying black with key pad lit on wake on gesture or power button. That may have been caused by my case... But more concerning is the screen flickering. It seems to come about more as the day goes on. When it starts to happen I tried rebooting, and it does it during boot too. I wonder about the longevity of this phone
