removing sd card after flash? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running cm7 on my nook and am a flashaholic on my evo 4g. Anyhoo.... I just downloaded nookiecomb 0.4.13 and the instructions say to remove sd card after flash. Once I remove it can I put it back in? Or do I have to format the card afterwards? I really don't want to format it but really want to try a honeycomb type of rom. Also what's the smoothest and most stable honeycomb rom available? I'm finally getting this nook thing down but hitting some bumps along the way. Thanks in advance,
Dave

If it's the SD card with the original Clockwork recovery image burned on it, take it out and put it away incase you ever get into real trouble. After you do that put in a fresh card, download Rom Manager and flash Clockwork Recovery to your new SD card. Once you have Clockwork on your daily card you can Nand and flash as usual..... Beware with the Honeycomb roms though, I was reading that they wipe out clockwork recovery when you flash them to EMMC (hence why I say to put away your original recovery sd for emergency use....the nook gives priority to booting from the SD slot over internal memory making it nearly impossible to brick)

Mount SD Card

Im having a problem mounting my SD card on my Xoom (external SD card).
It doesnt work at all for CWM, which is strange when normally it should pick it up.
Any hints or tips on trying to get this work?
Specs; Euroxoom 3G
If you have an android phone, format it with that. If not, download an SD card formatting program to your computer, and format it there.
lol i think you misunderstood, but mind you i never put it.... there is no issue with the formatting etc, ....
Problem is the xoom does not detect and Micro Sd card i have, i dont think its a faulty port etc, but i thought motorola hadnt released a software update for it to work? yet people can still flash stuff through CWM?
the sd card slot is activated using tiamat kernel in 1.3.2 or newer
you need to install one of the kernel mod packs. See post 3 of the tiamat 1.4.1 kernel post in the development forum. They'll also get your charging light working.

Did you root your Xoom, and install the Tiamat kernel?

im trying to install the Tiamat Kernal... lol but to flash in CWM you need a working SD card slot xd

You can't flash a kernel from CWM until after you have rooted and pushed a custom kernel via ADB first. There are many threads in the development section on how to do this. Look for one that matches your "Euroxoom ". Or, if yours is a wifi only, there is a great tutorial by LanD Master in Q and A, for us noobs.

meh i was trying to avoid pushing it, mind you i suppose its time to brush off those adb skills at work tomorrow lol

I didn't have a working sd card slot and I flashed the clockwork recovery last night. I read that clockwork has its own kernel which will detect the sd card. It didn't detect it at first but that was because I inserted the sd card AFTER I booted to CWM. I rebooted, with the sd card still in, and CWM recognized it. Then I loaded the tiamat kernel and flashed it.
Correct. You can infact flash clockworkmod recovery without having already installed a sdcard enabled kernel.
Technically the recovery image is a boot image - it contains it's own kernel and starts its operating system of a ram disk, due to this we can flash the recovery to the boot partition if we need to. (Useful if you screw up a kernel on the wifi models where you can't boot into recovery without doing "adb reboot recovery")
However, don't forget you need an external sdcard to use clockworkmod, the internal storage will not work.

Did I just brick?

I installed CM7 as per the instructions, but now I can't get into the OS. I can't even get back into CWM.
I installed everything just fine, and when I booted up, I got the CM7 splash screen, and then a total black screen. No matter what I've done to the SD card, it just stays at the black screen.
I installed Dalingrins (sp?) OC kernel too, so I don't know if that could of messed it up in any way
My NC is a blue sticker, by the way.
Can you boot to CWM from your SD card?
You may need to repartition your nook to the old setup and then attempt to load CM7

Nope. not at all. I've tried putting the CWM image on the SD card from several different PC's in case mine was just messing with me. But no go.
Try a new CWM image and/or a new SD card.
I actually found an old sandisk class 2 4Gb SD card worked great to make my bootable CWM SD Card.

1: Please don't say brick when referring to the NC. Until you have to JTAG a G1, you don't know what brick is.
2: Are you trying to boot CM off of an SD card or the internal memory? MAKE SURE you downloaded the eMMC kernel (not SD) if you are installing to the internal memory.
3: How about some more details of what kernel/rom version you downloaded, file name, how you went about it, etc. Then instead of this needless back and forth, we can solve it in one go, eh?
"I installed CM7 as per the instructions" = which instructions?

Okay, first, no need to be rude.
Second, I have JTAGed a device. My Captivate had to be JTAGed after a bad ODIN flash. So thanks so much for telling me what to not call my device that won't boot up no matter what I do. Also, thanks for telling me what I do and don't know.
I downloaded the eMMC kernel, Dalingrin's OC kernel. I followed this guide in General: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227 I followed every single step.
I didn't cut any corners, and I did exactly as it told me. Only thing I didn't do was re-partition it.
Looks like you tried to install CM7 into your internal memory (per instructions).
I assume that you have not flash CwM internally.
If that's the case, re-prepare the bootable CwM uSD again, boot the NC back into CwM recovery, do format /system, format /data, format /cache first then install the zip file (CM7, gapps) then go back and wipe data/factory reset. Remove uSD then reboot.
Give it some times to load.

Remove dual-boot (go to CM7 only)

Hi all,
After using stock for a bit, I realized I will never, ever need it. I've currently got the SD dual-boot going from ikingblack's instructions and have a CWM backup from my stock install, so if I need to go back I can.
How could I remove dual-boot and go CM7 only?
PS Also, I ALWAYS boot into CWM with the SD card inserted. Not holding any buttons. Did I miss a step?
I'm wondering same thing. Been running dual boot with cm7 on 16 gig card for a week and found I like cm7 better then stock. Will it work if I make a CWM nandroid, flash just clockwork to emmc with a spare 8 gig card then install my 16 gig card with cm7 on it and boot into recovery and restore backup? Seems the easiest way without setting everything up again but not sure if it will work. Also never flashed recovery yet from rom manager, should I do that first? Appreciate any help.
Two options pop up in my head.
1. According to many members, Titanium Backup will save your work (apps and settings) or
2. Re-fresh installing CM7 on the uSD card.

yes i can get into recovery. I tried flashing synergy rom. would it be best to just run the ruu and redo the rooting process?
Reformatting is by far the best way. There is a remove sd partition selection in ClockWorkMod and Amon Ra recoverys, but ive never used them, bcuz i have no need to partition my sdcard because i always have 150mb,or more, free space,no matter which rom i use or what apps i add/install(original Evo 4G).Id simply copy the contents of your sdcard to your computer, then reformat the sdcard, and reinstall the content back to your sdcard.I dont suggest the remove sdcard partition method simply because ive never used it. Good luck.
thank ibcary we got that far now i'm just stuck on the splash screen. the reason for wanting to get rid of the partion is cause it was just saying b. not giving me any info on the card.
If u can get to recovery your doing good. Use Amon Ra if possible. CWMod doesnt always do a full wipe. id try going into recovery and perform a full wipe, wipe dalvik, wipe data,etc,etc...Then download a rom that u know works and is stable. I like MikGs Sense 2.1/3.0 roms, but which rom all depends on your device. Choose a rom thats well known to be a good, stable rom.Try flashing the newly downloaded rom from your sdcard thru recovery and if that doesnt work, then id try using a new/different sdcard. Sdcards dont last forever, and some are downright junk. As long as u can get to your bootloader theres still hope. Im sure your device is ok,but it could be a bad sdcard or a bad rom download. Thats why i recomended a new rom download, and if that doesnt work then try a new sdcard. Goodluck
ok. it was a new sd card that i partioned. am download a rom that I have used before and never had any problem with. but if this doesn't work should i just unroot and run the ruu and start over again?
how do i load the rom onto the sd card since it gets stuck at the splash screen??

once you have root and busybox installed correctly theres not much unrooting and then rooting again will solve.Except to return your device to stock, and to unroot i usually flash the unrooted stock rom. U can try the Root Checker app from the Market just to make sure your rooted and have busybox installed correctly. However custom roms are already rooted and have busybox installed correctly. If its a new sdcard id still try another sdcard. Use an sdcard u know is good. I bought a few cheap sdcards that were 8GB class 10 becuz i got a great deal on them,10 for $110.but out of the 10,only 7 were even recognized by my Evo or my HP dv7 Netbook and worked. Also i highly doubt they are class 10,bcuz my SanDisk 16GB C10 sdcard is much faster, and older too. So just bcuz its new doesnt mean its good.If it still wont work after a fresh wipe using Amon Ra recovery,NOT ClockWork Mod recovery, and a fresh/newly downloaded rom flashed from a different sdcard using Amon Ra recovery to fully wipe, then flash the newly downloaded rom from the different sdcard to your device. That shud work, but if it doesnt u can try reinstalling or updating your recovery.
As usual im a little behind again with my post. Good luck

First: Did you partition all the card or only a certain amount ?
Second: Almost all the Custom recoveries have format card so do that. Then boot back in recovery and mount your card from recovery.
Third: Do not run RUU Period.
Fourth: Wipe all, cache, dalvik and all 2or3 times.
You wont get stuck on splash. since you wipe all give it a bit of time to check everything about 5-10 minutes

on partition the card i just hit the power button on all of it. got a custom rom back on my phone now it is up and running.
I would suggest using this program when formatting your SD ..

Just and FYI, when partitioning your SD Card, it will wipe the contents. So you'll need to partition SD Card and then move over any content you want to install.

Can't Flash a New ROM

Hi,
So I got my girlfriend this gift basically right when it came out. I rooted it, and flashed CM 7.1 RC1 (literally came out that day) a long time ago.
She gave it to me yesterday to get her PDF's on there. I opened the market and nothing would pop up except for the like 5 total apps, while the Browser was working 100% fine. I go to my apps in the market and try downloading updates and they kept failing. I was frustrated, so I downloaded the latest Cyanogen Nightly and Gapps. I updated CWM to 6.0.3.1, then made a backup of the existing ROM. I went into recovery, and tried finding the Nightly and Gapps I downloaded, but the SD Card would never mount. I'm not sure how I can fix this.
Please help, thanks a ton!
Jimmy
hmmm what about putting the stuff in the phone memory and flash there

Since you did it so long ago, do you remember if you installed the CM7 to emmc or SD? That may be your issue.
And how did you get 6.0.3.1? Rom Manager? That may be your issue too.

Thanks for the responses! To be 100% honest, I don't remember how I rooted/flashed. I know I had to buy an SD card for it though, and the SD card is labeled BOOT
I did get 6.0.3.1 through ROM Manager.

Do you need the SD inserted for it to boot to your CM7? If so, you installed to SD and with an SD installation, you do not use CWM to install upgrades. That is why you cannot see the zip you downloaded. If you want to upgrade a CM7 SD install to CM10, you need to start over with a newly burned SD. The old SD setup is not compatible with CM10. Use my guide linked in my signature.
You might just want to put CM10 on internal memory, replacing whatever is there. Just download the new CM zip to emmc with CM7, boot to emmc CWM, remove the SD, wipe data/factory reset and flash the new CM zip using the "install from SD/choose from internal memory" option. Then you need to flash the right gapps to match. Then reboot. Once you are sure everything is working, you can format your old SD with SDFormatter so it can be used as a normal data SD. Get it free on the web.
