[Q] Can't get 3G or GPS working on HD2 running Android 2.3 NAND - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi everyone!
This is my first post on XDA, but I've been referring to it a lot lately and have to say that it is a great community.
I am hoping that someone can help me with my HD2 problem. I initially tried running an SD version of Android 2.3 on my HD2, it was great but I had no working 3G or GPS. I thought this was to do with the ROM build, and started to look for a new one to try out.
It was at this time that I learnt about NAND. Since then I have installed HSPL 2.08, MAGLDR and flashed MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 (v. 2.6) A2SD+. This is a ROM of Android 2.3.2. Note that before I did this I had Radio version 2.15.50.14, which I believe to be correct (for the reason of needing 576MB RAM).
Everything is now running great on my NAND Android except for 3G and GPS. I don't have the option for enabling 3G in the 'wireless & networks' menu, which I should.
I've searched around but all I can find is people saying that before you flash Android you must ensure you have a radio that is compatible with 576MB RAM. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that Radio 2.15.50.14 is 576MB compatible.
The fact that I have no 3G AND no GPS does suggest that the radio may be incorrect (from what I know about them), but I don't know for sure. Can anyone help me out here?
I don't know if this info will help or make a difference to which radio I should use, but I am on O2 UK.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer any help! It is much appreciated!

have you made sure the o2 apn settings are correct ?

I am not familiar with O2 in the UK but since there is also T-Mobile in the UK, I am assuming that O2 is a competing SIM card carrier similar to ATT in the US for me. And if so, then I would think that O2 only can give you EDGE and not 3G. That is what happens when I try my HTC HD2 on ATT. Unless I am on T-Mobile, all other GSM carriers will only give me EDGE and not 3G. In regards to not obtaining GPS lock, I think it could be caused by the build you are on. Many of the builds are optimized for the location of the developer. I would then change your gps.conf file in your build to optimized GPS lock for you in the UK. Here is a link to the thread to help you change the gps.conf file on your phone:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630

Hi. Thanks for quick reply. I can go into my 'Access Point Names' menu, in 'Settings' > 'Wireless & networks' and can see multiple choices there. Seven of the options are for O2:
O2 UK (mobile.o2.co.uk)
O2 UK (mobile.o2.co.uk)
O2 UK Postpay MMS (wap.o2.co.uk)
O2 UK Prepay MMS (payandgo.o2.co.uk)
O2 MMS Postpay (wap.o2.co.uk)
O2 MMS Prepay (payandgo.o2.co.uk)
O2 UK MMS (idata.o2.co.uk)
I have no idea why some of them are identical or why there are so many for O2. However, I would have thought I should choose either of the top two, as I am on an O2 contract. If i select one of the top two then I can see the settings for that APN. The settings I can see that have values are:
Name, APN, Username, Password, MCC, MNC and APN type.
Should it be as simple as selecting an APN from the list or is there normally customisation required?

Hi. Thanks, that looks like something I need to find out for sure, although my 3G worked fine when I was running WM6.5 on O2, it was only when switching to Android that the problems arose. When I had the SD card version of Android I could go back and forth from WM6.5 to Android and would have 3G work in WM but not in Android, every time.
The good point about the SD card method was that if I ever really needed 3G I could easily reboot and use WM6.5, but of course now that I have a NAND version of Android I cannot do this, and so I am pretty keen to try and fix the problem so that I can use things like Google Maps when I am out and about etc.
Thanks again.

Doing a Google search it looks like O2 can give you 3G provided you have the proper APN settings. The different choices you listed will be based on what type of O2 plan you are using. Here is a link to a suggested APN setting if you are on the postpay MMS plan: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/o2-uk-postpay-mms-internet-apn-settings-18558/
Suggested settings for payandgo plan 3G:http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/apn-settings-for-3g-and-mms-on-o2-payandgo-17625/

Partial success!

Hi. Thanks for the info and link. I tried the settings mentioned in the first link you provided and it worked! Brilliant! After I had input the new settings I had to go to 'Mobile networks' and re-tick 'Data enabled'. I now have a little 'G' icon in the status bar with an incoming and outgoing arrow above it and can browse web pages again! Ahh mobile connection, I have missed you!
By the way, that G icon, I've just Googled it and it seems it represents a GPRS connection, which is slower than EDGE. I have to say, this new connection is very slow (not that I'm complaining too much). Does this make sense to anyone? On the post I got the settings from (linked to above - I can't add URL's to posts yet as I'm a new user) I noticed that the users are saying that the settings will get 3G working, there was no mention of GPRS. Do you think my phone is defaulting to GPRS becuase it can't get 3G working?
Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem on orange. worked fine on wm6.5 but once i flashed android have had a night mare finding 3g coverage, but alot of ppl have 3g coverage on a nand android been trying to figure out why cant i, i also have that G but its really slow internet and cant talk on pingchat etc, gonna ring orange tomorrow n see if they can fix it/give me correct settings.

My 2G network option was always unchecked, but thanks for commenting anyway.
I seem to have a pretty much fully working connection now. I had the G icon (GPRS) when at work the other day, but once I went home I managed to get an E icon (EDGE), which was much faster. I don't know if I'll be able to get any faster than that (i.e. 3G or HSDPA), as I am assuming that is partly to do with my settings but also partly down to geographic location and coverage etc. But at least I have something now, I am very grateful for that much
In addition, my GPS seems to be working too (I started this post of with neither GPS nor my mobile networks working). It takes some time to get a lock on me, but it gets there after a few minutes. Fantastic!
Thanks so much to everyone who posted comments, I appreciate them all
I hope you get your problem sorted, LaneyEFC. I'd definitely recommend getting the APN settings from your network provider, my problems went once I got that step right!

HSDPA, will donate for help!!

Hi guys, i know this is a common problem amongst some of us, there are several threads discussing the connection drops but please there must be someone out there who knows something about it.
Basically with HSDPA enabled, the connection will last a random period of time before disconnecting by itself and displaying: cannot connect for an unknown reason.
When HSDPA is turned off, only 3G is used, although this works fine, it is fairly slower.
I am on T-Mobile UK, I have phoned their technical support, we have established it is not the sim card but the phone itself and have tried a variety of steps to solve this, for example receiving band settings for WCDMA, this has not fixed the problem.
I have tried changing the username and password combinations and have tried every combination of every advanced network option. I have used the T-Mobile stock rom 1.43, official HTC ROM 1.66, duttys hg, energyROM, artemis 5.0 and artemis 5.5 (would recommend btw) using MTTY before every flash, and every single different radio combination.
Myself, and many people here would be very grateful for any help posted.
Thanks in advance
Why don't you try Settings > Connections > Advanced network > GPRS tab > change from PAP to CHAP.. and reset... or viceversa.. that helped for me..
Thanks for the post, i've tried all that i've tried all advanced settings, at most they last for a day or so but after a while the connection dropouts seem to worsen
Ok ive just gotten off the phone for the third time with the technical support
basically what they've said is that the hsdpa WILL disconnect because the mobile towers simply can't handle the traffic.
He said in his honest opinion I should disable it because it simply won't work well and there is no fix.
Taking the piss juuuuust a little bit
Mine on t-mobile uk will show H, but usually drop down to 3G. It won't give me an error when it drops down though.
It sounds like its not transferring from H to 3G.
To be honest, i was unaware t-mobile ran HSDPA till I got my HD2 (never showed on my BB).
mine switches between 3G and H too, this happens when the connection is being used (for example loading a web page) when the job is finished (page has finished loading) it turns back to 3G right?
are you saying that your connection never disconnects?
may i ask which radio and rom you are using?
thanks!
For my personal experience, I have for over a month, on versions 1.48, 1.66 by HTC, artemis versions, versions of other French chefs. had no problems,
Login Exchange push 24/24 without any cuts, I solicited the network with opera I passed automatically 3g H, and since February it to completely fall with the problems that everyone encounters (lost connection for several minutes , unable to connect to 3G without hard reset)
to remove the sim chip, I try with another chip of the same operator, another chip from another operator, the problem is still there.
For several days I have also continued a Touch HD, it faces no problems, no problems in connection 24/24.
In short, impossible to challenge any operator, any base station, any sim card.
It is then that the problem come from HD2:
-Software: We all try every combination of rom and radio rom possible.
It is the hardware, maybe the chip integrated into a concern for design, manufacturing concerns on some series, may be dysfunctional due to incompatibilitée between several chips of the phone, short, HTC should look into the problem.

correct, it never disconnects.
It will switch seemlessly between them, when using or not using.
same one it came with. O2 HD2.
ROM 1.43.206.4 (70315) WWE
RADIO 2.04.50.22_2
I've also been struggling with this problem ever since I got my HD2 three weeks ago. However it seems like only a few people experience this.
My case is exactly like cgrec92 described. I'm on a 3.5G network in Denmark (3 Mobile), the phone shows the 3G connection at all times. When things do work and I use Opera/weather/Twitter/email etc, the symbol changes to H and I know the data connection is functioning. I can be using this for a whole hour without any problems.
However, if I put the phone down for a while and then pick it up again to use one of its data services, very often it does not connect to 3.5G (or H) anymore. It will still show the 3G icon on the screen, but there's no data connection. Then I go to Connection Manager and I can see that data connection shows as Off - and after a few seconds it goes back to On by itself That does not mean the problem is solved, as the phone still fails to establish any data connection. What I need to do then is manually turn off data connection and re-enable it again, which makes the 3G symbol immediately change to H. Then everything starts working again - until the next time it stops working...
I contacted the HTC customer service and they said it might be a driver-related issue, recommended a hard reset. I did that and for a few hours I thought it solved the problem, but no, data connection still disconnects by itself.
I spoke to 3 Mobile's technical service and they told me to update my software, which I had already done previously (I'm running stock 1.66 ROM Danish). They also said they never received any such complains about the HD2.
Like cgrec92 I've also played with all kinds of network/band settings, but it did not make any difference.
***
One question: isn't the phone supposed to automatically connect via EDGE when it cannot connect via HSDPA? Because in my case it will only establish data connection via H, never EDGE.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
My take on this FWIW
It's not the phone!
It's the radio ROM installed.
I live in an an area where T-mobile say I can't get HSDPA.
However, I know that I can. How? Because 3 network uses the same local cell and transmitter as T-mobile and their signal will rip your eyes out!!!!!!!!!
All information obtained from a good friend of mine who works for BT, who, service manage the cells for the networks.
Plus, in this location, the cell traffic is then handled by BTs digiatal backbone which takes it who knows where after that.
So I have a very isolated situation in which I know there is a decent HSDPA signal, but I have had trouble with drop outs on my two previous phones (Nokis 5800 and HTC Touch Diamond 2) and originally on my two T-mobile mobile broadband feeds using Huawei E220 cell network modems.
All fixed when I finally found the right Radio and flashed it on the phones and unlocked and flashed the latest modem firmware.
My broadband connections are always on and never drop out and my HSDPA signal on my HD2 is through the roof!
To further emphasise the point all the equipment is used (when home based) behind solar glass which is notorious for blocking mobile phone signals.
Land on the best one and you will get incresed battery life as well.
Bottom line is try the latest radios (2.08.50.08_02 in my case) and I think you may be surprised at the results.

I have the same problem with the connection dropping. What I did to make it work was to disable HDSPA and putting GPRS to CHAP instead of PAP, and so far I have no problems at all
Thanks for the reply and tips. I also did the same earlier today, except that I did not change PAP to CHAP :O. I was waiting until tomorrow before I posted any results, but I gotta say so far the connection has been stable just like yours.
I also called HTC's customer service in Denmark and the fellow I spoke to was very helpful but he said he has never heard about such problems. He sent me updated network settings via sms, but it did not fix the problem.
I mean, only some users around the world suffer from this problem, right? So what is it that's wrong with our devices? Is it a production fault? If I exchange my phone for a brand new one maybe I won't be unlucky again? When 3 DK finally told you the problem was unfixable, did they mention other users with the same issue? Did they ever offer to replace your phone?

Erm!
It's your radio!
But, I think I did say that in a previous post.
You had a helpful fellow who sent you updated settings?
And he thought that was going to fix your problem?
That was helpful!
It's your radio!
The technicalities are beyond a customer assistant at the end of a phone. They work from a script.
I'll send you the settings.
Have you done this?
Have you done that ?
Never heard of anyone else with your problem!
It's your radio!
T-mobile uses PAP protocol (at least they do here in the UK) and it's a handshake protocol so changing that won't really do anything to the signal definition.
You have it or you don't.
It's your radio!
There is no "production fault".
You are not "lucky" or "unlucky".
You are in an area where you will suffer from this because of the ???????
THE RADIO!
I think I have made my point.
If it turns out that you don't have a radio issue then please feel free to admonish me.
Until then----------
It's your radio!
well I don't mean to sound rude but do you SERIOUSLY think we haven't tried that? ive tried every possible radio available here and every different rom, so excuse us for trying new things.im glad your not having any troubles yourself because it is really annoying
perhaps you could post us your rom and radio?
I don't suppose you could post us your settings in advanced network?
did you use the connection setup?
thanks for your help
Yes, I was about to mention something similar. I haven't tried combining different ROMS & Radios myself, but I know people like cgrec92 who have with no good results.
And if it is the radio, then every 3 Denmark user like me would be experiencing the same problem, correct? I don't think that's the case. Actually when you read the forums you will find users from different countries with this problem, and they/we are not the only ones with a certain combination of ROM/Radio.
So yes, by disabling HDSPA I finally managed to have a stable data connection (but no 3.5G, obviously). At this point no one seems to know the cause of this issue, but I suppose it's naive to expect a future ROM to solve it, after all it's not a widespread problem. Is HTC even working on it? Are we sure it's not our devices that are faulty?
I honestly have no idea, but I cannot just accept this problem and live with it after all the money I put into this phone. That's why I brought up the possibility of having it exchanged for a brand new one in hopes that it will not have this problem.
Any ideas?

I referred to my radio in my previous post -20.08.50.08_02.
My OS ROM is Leo Lite 3.
Connection setup used and no further settings.
My explanation for this is the fringe nature of the received signal.
The radio its constantly 'hunting' for a signal and the radio software has difficulty in locking on.
BTW OS ROM and settings ready don't affect the efficiency of the radio signal.

I appreciate the help, but he doesn't seem to understand the issue here. It's not that we have low connection, or that we cannot connect to the 3.5G network. The problem is that the phone's data connection will automatically disconnect even when we are in an area with full 3.5G signal. The phone will connect for a while and then, moments later, in the same spot and with full signal, data connection is terminated. So I just can't see how the radio has anything to do with that, especially when there are hundreds of other users out there with the same ROM & Radio as us and in the same network. And yet they do not experience this problem.
Ive have similar issues but it depends where i am it appears that some towers its ok where others its not!

The radio differentiates between all the different levels and types of signal and it depends on how exact it interprets the signal. They are supposedly optimized before release and then re optimized with each newly released version. Network operators then have their own network parameters and again the radio has to accommodate this as well. One radio will never satisfy all these criteria and some of you will be in the wrong place at the wrong time on the wrong network with the least effective radio.
I can assure you that I most certainly do understand the problem and that is why, in my own case, I have resolved it.

telstra HD2 on AT&T

ok so i'm a total newbie at things like this and this my first post/question... i am an att customer from reno nevada i've loved and used HTC phones since the first one came out years ago. i used to have a touch pro 2 aka tilt 2 but fell in love with my buddies HD2 from t mobile. i did some research and found that a telstra HD2 t9193 would work on ATT and get 3g. now i have the phone and i havent the slightest clue what to do. i cant go on the internet and cant customize the phone to me. i can make calls and txt msg but basicly nothing else. now i dont even care really if i get the 3g or not but i want to customize my phone like the quick links and programs and at least use the internet and have things like the weather updates. i cant do any of that.
to sum up i have the phone but alll i can do is make calls and txt msg nothing else,
can some one please walk me through how to set this stuff up and if and when you do assume i'm an idiot or a 3rd grader.
Have you gone into settings/wireless controls and turned on Data Connection?
Chances are he needs to change his APN settings for AT&T.
Well as far as I know the HD2 finds the APN settings. I use a European HD2 on Rogers Wireless, and it found the settings the moment the sim card was installed. But you're right. He should check the APN settings to be sure.
thanks for replying guys so i tried to go into settings>data connection and it gives me a message that 'this connection is pre-configured and cannot be modified.' also that all internet and data goes through telstra internet. and unfortunetely i have no idea what apn settings are or how to change them.
also i got a voicemail from a friend but when i tried to retreive it i got a recorded message about international codes and dialing if that helps you understand whats going on at all

The problem I had with leaving the Telstra rom alone was that the ROM itself is so bloated with the provider's extra features that couldn't be used here in the US, that simply tweaking the registry settings to properly setup my phone to the sim-card wasn't enough. I had to download HSPL. Install it on the phone, and ultimately flash a new rom and radio to finally get to where I wanted it to be at. Overall, I am more than happy with the T9193.
You might want to do the same as well, since flashing the ROM will enhance your experience using the phone (Clean install is always better) and flashing a new Radio will give you better frequency management (Better reception with GPS and UMTS).
Any chance you could provide pointers to what ROM and HSPL you used for your Telstra HD2 on AT&T? I'd like to use an HTC stock ROM, but going to their site the ROMs I find say they won't work on my Telstra HD2 (based on SN).
Flash a different ROM.
The reason it doesn't work is because the stock ROM has the APN setup removed, and is preconfigured with Telstra's APN settings. Other HD2 Roms will have Connection Setup available so you can have AT&T's settings loaded.
lots of info in this thread.
the 1st HSPL version works, then most custom roms.
T 9193 running clean and stable with fair battery life
with all the bat. suckers running. See below for specs. Average 1.3 Mbs down. Stream movie or TV on H with no problems.
flash custom
Yes. I am using a Telstra T9193 in CA, had the same issue. Also, most custom ROMs automatically configure the data/connection settings, which is very nice.

again thanx guys i really appreciate all the help and the links to more info and i fell good now. ive spent the last 6 hrs reading and learning more. i am going to flash the rom and put a new one on. if you guys could post some links to some good roms i'd appreciate it as well. i think i'm looking for something close to HTCs basic but something that will still work w/ AT&T
also i'm looking to learn how to put HSPL on my phone my version says SPL-1.66.0000 i see on the links how to for other models but i havent found how for this perticular one
i think you have to down grade first by flashing a telstra 1.48 or 1.49 rom.
that should bring your spl down to 1.42.
then you can flash hspl 1 and next the htc generic rom
when i bought my telstra, it came with spl 1.42 and so all i had to do flash hspl 1, then i flashed an oem htc rom.
ok so looking around i found this page on ppcgeeks,,com (wont let me post the real link) and on it it has a hardSPL2 that says it should work with 1.66 i'm still a little confused as to what i'd need to do. is this a good safe thing or not?
oh just saw that the person who created the HSPL2 is a member on here called bepe again though is this a good safe thing? i dont want to screw the phone up
from what i read in the past was that hspl2 doesnt work on telstras hd2. it might have changed since then and i havent kept up on it since ive already flashed mine.
you need to research more to see if that is feasable for the telstra hd2.

Well as far as I know the HD2 finds the APN settings. I use a European HD2 on Rogers Wireless, and it found the settings the moment the sim card was installed. But you're right. He should check the APN settings to be sure.

Are you able to get 3G on Rogers with a European HD2? I thought the European phone only supported 900 & 2100 HSPA whereas Rogers needs 850 or 1900 HSPA for 3G.

[Q] No more 3g connection after 2.1 update

Hi all,
I just upgraded my Telus Hero to 2.1, unrooted phone by the way.
The update worked and I am now running 2.1, but I no longer have a 3g connection. Mobile network is ON, but no 3g icon in the top bar, nothing.
Why is this?
did u flash a new radio? after loading new roms, its worth loading new radios too.
try a few different radios to find the best one for you, there isnt exactly one ultimate radio, but usually the newer/latest ones work well. not necessarily
(as far as i know, they are not country specific, nor network specific - so just hit and miss ...)
(ps i would recommend to read a few pages or forums related to radios to give u the best and accurate information - i dont want to accidently give you the wrong info!)
also...does wifi and gps work?? thats usually affected by radios
Checked your APNs in SETTINGS?

Ya I had to look up the APN settings online. Thanks ddotpatel!

[Q] Android shows always roaming [SOLVED]

I am having an issue with my HD2 where in all android builds I've tried and all radio roms I've tried, it always says that I am roaming. I've tried quite a few recent android builds and radio roms. I am in NYC using Tmobile and have used my sim in other phones and in WM and never shown up as roaming in my apartment.
I'm currently using ChuckyDroidRom and EBL 2.1a. The phone and 3G have worked fine in ChuckyDroidROM and in the original official Tmobile WinMo ROM. However, in Android my lock screen shows "T-Mobile 3G|Vstream" or "T-Mobile|Vstream" and there is always an 'R' in my status bar and i get no data unless i turn roaming data on. Is it possible android has an issue with the difference between T-Mobile and Vstream which are essentially the same thing and WM doesnt? My sim is 9 years old from back when it was called Voicestream, but I've never had any problems with it and as I said it works fine when running WM6.5 and it worked fine in all of the other old phones I've had over the years.
Here are the Radio ROMs I've tried (all with no positive result in this issue)
Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2
Leo_RADIO_2.11.50.26**
Leo_RADIO_2.11.50.20**
Leo_RADIO_2.10.50.28_2
Leo_RADIO_2.08.50.05**
Leo_RADIO_15.36.50.07U_2.09.50.29_2 (from TMOUS_2.11)
Here are the Android Builds I've tried (all have shown the same issue where I am always roaming)
HyperDroidV1.5
JDMSV1.2
mccm_v1.5_customise
shubCRAFT_v1.5
bangsters_v1.3a_09142010
I'm tempted to just leave data on when roaming and let it think it is roaming as it seems fairly likely I wont get roaming charges at home since it does automatically connect to the T-Mobile network, but then there are the annoying extra dialog boxes that warn me about roaming in some apps, and also I'm worried if i go out of town and leave roaming data on I'll end up with big charges one day when my phone is actually roaming.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried searching everywhere for a solution but have had no luck solving the issue so far.
The first thing I would do is ask my provider for a new SIM. I think that will solve your problem.

Thanks, I will try that tomorrow when I get a chance to go to a Tmobile store. My only concern is that it doesnt seem like the SIM is indicated as the issue as it works fine in other phones including iphone, htc wizard, and many other phones before. The symptoms seem to me to indicate Android to be part of the issue, since the SIM has worked for many years and even works fine with HD2 hardware in WM6.5.
Any other ideas? I noticed the same question asked in at least one or two other threads on these forums, but never with any solution posted and barely any response. Thanks to anyone who may be able to help.

Try to turn off Network Location and GPS on WinMo and try to fresh install Android and disable location in both GPS and Network and see what'll happen
Ok, getting a new SIM from T-Mobile worked! And disabling GPS in WM helped get GPS working as well. I guess android is especially picky about carrier codes so my 10 year old Voicestream SIM wasnt recognized as T-mobile even though all the other phones I've used it in had no problem with it. Very excited to have 2+Mbps 3G and GPS on my HD2 using my $5.99/mo tzones plan. This is a big upgrade from my iphone 2g which only supported EDGE and didnt have GPS or my location working.

Wow that's a very old post you responded to. I'm not sure I know the answer anymore. I think I just followed Marvlesz's instructions. I haven't used my HD2 in a year

[Q] Non-n00b assistance required for running Android on the HD2

Hello all,
I have an O2 UK HD2 and I am trying to port across to Android. I already own a Dell Streak running 2.1 and i'd like 2.2 on my HD2.
I've read through a lot of post and believe I know enough to do this - but I am having recurring issues which I cannot seem to get around.
Before I got serious with this, I simply flashed a high version number radio and jumped right into the first android build I could download. The issues were the robotic voice and I cannot get an internet connection (although I have the 'H' icon continuously).
I read up, did some research and followed lots of instructions.
So far i've downloaded several 'android friendly' WinMo ROMS:
Energy.Leo.29005.Sense2.5.Dec.13
Energy.Leo.28244.Sense2.5.MaxSense.Nov.16
Miri_Steve0007_Elegancia_V1.0_CHT2_FINAL
Miri_Steve0007_EleganciaMaxSense_V5.0_FINAL
I have the following radios:
2.10.50.19_2
2_10_50_26
2_11_50_26
2_12_50_02_2
2_15_50_14
And the following android's:
FroyoStone_Sense_V3.2
SuperRAM_Froyo_v1
I've not got the time to swap and change radio/rom/android build 25 times just to find a working version - but needless to say the amount of swapping i've done so far is providing no change to my issues above.
I want my internet to work and I want no robot voice.
Does anyone know, from the list above, what selection of the 3 items do I need to get this to work once and for all?
Also, i'd prefer to be using the semi-recent stock ROM for O2 HD2 as I don't like custom ROMs, has anyone got android working on the stock O2 ROM?
Thanks in advance
Dan
i always ran mdeejay builds and never had the robotic voice, i also had a stock rom and 2.15 radio. i hope that helps.

same here.
Just a suggestion, try this mix (works for me giving 3-6mA standby):
Dutty v11 (Christmas ROM)
2.12.50.xx
mdeejay revolution 1.7
everything works.
Thank-you both.
I've just started a download of the 3.14 stock ROM build, as i've got a network .cab that should install my O2 network settings for me.
The lack of internet connectivity means the phone is useless in android mode, so i'm going to give it one last try once i've upgraded my stock ROM and see if I can't get it working. I doubt I will though, but at least i'll have the most up to date WM ROM going.
I assume your net connections simply 'worked'?
I don't think you need a stock Tom, but you definitely need different builds.
The froyostone 3.2 is a discontinued build and likely doesn't have the latest kernels, wrappers, patches etc that have greatly improved many peoples android experience.
on the other hand, superram is highly beta, and is in the process of being revised and improved by darkstone.
Basically you hit both ends of the spectrum in terms of maturity. Try a couple of other builds and see what happens. I recommend going with a build that uses hastarin 8.5+ as the kernel, buy only because for some reason mdjs kernels have never worked for me. Other people say very good things about it though.
One thing you should pay special attention to is the changelog. Usually this will indicate how far along (and how often) the build is being updated.

I know the stock ROM isn't a requirement, in fact i'm pretty sure it's almost detrimental - but i've spent 3 days faffing around with this and i'm literally having to go back to WinMo with nothing to show for my troubles.
Basically i'm upgrading to 3.14 now and trying android one last time, knowing full well it's probably not going to work but still, can't help trying can it. If it fails, at least i'm on the newest WinMo build, and i've still got my Dell Streak with a pending 2.2 upgrade at some point this week.

As far as stock, check out my set up. As far as wifi; it may be your APN and DNS settings, in any build when you change builds it changes settings.

Hi, the internet issues are with the network not a WiFi router. The internet simply refuses to work, even though I have the 'H' icon.

That's why I mentioned the APN settings
I wouldn't be at all surprised if you went into your APN settings and found GiffGaff selected.

Agreed with that, I've had a couple of builds that gave me no data, it was the provider settings that it selected in the first setup sequence. you can manually change them (the o2 webpage should have them, or try some of the o2 one from here: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/wiki/APNlist) and you should be golden.
Try creating new APNs, deleting old ones

I can second that. I've had problems with numerous builds and APN settings. I personally found (after a lot of frustration) that double checking the the settings was not enough, rather I needed to add completely new APNs using the info from my provider. Apparently some of the settings were different when the APNs were added manually than the default ones (MCC, MNC?), which were not specified by the provider and I therefore could not check if correct with the original APNs, if you know what I mean. As for builds, I personally recommend JDMS or HD2ONE for a good combination of speed, reliability and functionality; I personally like some of the CyanogenMod features like the power bar in the status bar, menu button to unlock, etc. Good luck!
I'm currently trying out Ginger HD2 (Gingerbread themed build, but still 2.2). That was set to GiffGaff at first, but there were a couple of O2 ones in there and the first choice worked for me. I've had this in a couple of other builds too. I guess some builds come with plenty of APNs, and some come with none.
Definitely start there though.
sounds familure.im using energy Leo rom and a 2.15.50 radio and an mdj desire hd build, that work fine now, just make sure you disable htc sence in the winmo before you boot android, see if that works
Hi guys
Thanks for the replies above.
It would appear the Android builds I was using weren't giving me this 'APN' setup option, ironically I only just installed a build now that gives me the popup once it's read my SIM card to select a network - so now I know what you mean by APN, I think.
Anyway, i'm glad to report that I have stock 3.14WWE and an Android build w/sense working perfectly (I can't remember the name but it's none of the builds I listed in the OP), albeit if left overnight, has become a little laggy, but I don't care as a quick reboot sorted it this morning.
Thankyou all for your responses.
