Tethering questions - Optimus 7 General

1. Does NoDo support tethering? I have read some voices that it is working, but at my phone not.I made everything like in instruction, and it was ok till point I have to dial-up. With NoDo as far I remember I got error like "other side is not responding", using pre-nodo version connection is ok.
2. Why "tooltip" at PC is saying connection is 115kbps only?
3. Is it really needed to "phone's" data connection disabled? At least two times I have made successfull conection when it was enabled in phone settings. Does it depends on something else?

Data connection full time

Hey guys.
One of these days I got an SMS from my carrier saying my data plan had been activated (I didn't ask for it) and that my cell would be self configured to use the data connection.
The problem is that since then, my phone seems to be connected full time.
The back plate is hot as hell, the battery doesn't last 6 hours, and every cheap pc speaker set (that suffers interference from cell phone waves) indicates it's connected the whole time.
The first time it happenned, I managed to turn it off with "HD Tweak".
Now I flashed Dutty's "R7 Thriller" and the problem is back, though now I use HD Tweak to disable the connection, set "always on" to false, set "auto disconnect" to 10 seconds and nothing seems to fix this. The only way to make my battery last for more then half a day is to put it in airplane mode.
I even tryied to set the 'priority' order of connections to "My Work Network", and I even deleted the data connection (There's "Vivo Zap", the Edge/3G one, and "Vivo MMS" - this MMS hasn't been deleted by me).
Anybody had any problem like this? How to fix this?!
Thanks in advance!
try this app http://rapidshare.com/files/88130685/MoDaCo_NoData.CAB.html
it disables data connection completely -- install then go to settings, connections and start no data and disable your decided connection!
Thanks a lot, I'll give it a try! ; )
Just outta curiosity: is this normal, this full time connection? I disabled it every way I found, and yet it didn't stop!

Of course it aint normal, but I maybe wrong, cuz i have a completely different operator and completely different data connection(which is turned off for me by the operator)--- full time connection maybe active because something is wrong with your rom or something - try a hard reset if the nodata app doesnt help
NoData didn't run in my ROM (Onkolog's WM6.5 Full). : (
But I installed "Advanced Config Tool" and disabled "GPRS Auto Attach".
Description: "Automatically search GPRS/3G connection on start of radio, or only when a data connection must be estabilished".
It seems cooler now; as soon as I get to my work I'll test it with the desktop speakers (they make some pretty weird noises when there is a cell phone radio frequency emitter near them, like a cell phone trying to connect to the 3G or GSM network).
I'll post it back when I get back!
I disabled my data connection like this
Settings>Connections>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks...
And in those two drop down menus select "My Work Network"
Worked for me....
I tried that too, but that didn't work.
Indeed, the only way to make the battery last more then 6 hours is to use "Advanced Config" and disable that 3G lookup thing.
Weird, uh? Anybody had a similar problem...?

Data Connection and setting Wifi preference?

Hey guys
I'm a big time noob, and the HD2 is a complete marvel for me, its my first WM device and I'm learning alot thats for sure. If there is an obvious solution, apologies in advance
I've been looking around the forums and googling for answers, but still unsure about the data connection and wifi settings in the HD2, and have spent the last few days checking the connection status/settings. Sometimes I find that the WiFi and/or Data Connection ON/OFF toggle section is greyed out in Settings, no idea why as I haven't been able to find a real reason. Could anyone please explain why this may be the case?
Ideally I'd like the WiFi to be the preferred internet access mode, but I'm not sure what my phone is using when I access online content. I can see the wireless is connected, but how can I be sure its definitely using it? I can check the notifications that I'm connected, but I'm also seeing a connection to "Contract Internet" which is normally on H with full bars.
On my previous phone a Nokia N95 8gb (nothing compared to HD2 bar the camera ) whenever I wanted to go online, I had it set to "ask" what connection to use, e.g. I had a list of connections such as Vodadafone Contract (3G/GPRS) or from a list of my defined WiFi connections.
Is there something similar somewhere in the HD2 settings that would "ask" what kind of connection to use? It would be great if someone could let me know.
Sorry to be a pest, but anyone?
Hi there. I'm not an expert myself and HD2 is my first Windows Mobile device as well. I'll try and help, because I spent some time looking for answer on that particular subject. Let's go through this point by point.
(1) You have to understand the notification icons that appear on the topbar. Download the official user manual here and look for pages 39-40. These notifications are realtime, thus more precise than the Comm Manager.
(2) Let's be clear: the word "data connections" that appear in the Comm Manager only refer to the internet connections using 2G (GPRS or EDGE) or 3G (UMTS or HPSDA), not Wifi. So it won't toggle on, even when your wifi connection is up and running.
(3) A lot applications use your internet connection (Data or Wifi), even when the phone is in sleep mode (weather updates, stocks updates etc).
(4) About the following question: I'm not sure what my phone is using when I access online content. I'll tell you the way it works on my phone. Still, you'll need aswers of other people as well. You have to consider different situations.
- If no internet connection is on (no wifi, no data) and an application need to access internet (ex: Eutomatic updates or Opera browser), then the phone will open a data connection (2G or 3G). If it doesn't succeed, you'll get an error message.
- If wifi is already on and connected, but data connection is off, the applications will use the wifi connection. Unlike data connection, the applications are not able to "force wifi connection" if it's not already connected... I don't know if there is a setting or a tweak to change this.
(5) Unfortunately, I already experienced some application that "force" the opening of data connections, even with wifi on and connected. That's why I disable every automatic updates. I only do manual updates... and it "obeys", meaning that updates use the wifi when I'm connected, and force data connection when wifi is not available. I tried some complex (freewares) softwares like WMLongLife (found here) because I wanted the data connection to disconnect automatically after an updates (manual or automatic), but they were not very handy. The latest I tried gave me the best results. It's called Bandswitch 0.3 (found here). It works great in doing just that: automatic data disconnection after idle delay you choose.
(6) Is there something similar somewhere in the HD2 settings that would "ask" what kind of connection to use? I'm not absolety sure, but you could try to reach this settings. Follow this path: Windows icon -> Start menu -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections (yes, once again) -> Go to the tab called "Advanced" -> Click on the button "select networks". Here you can find what program which network programs must automaticaly use. You'll be able to see the 2G/3G network, but I'm not sure what you should choose to enable WIFI connection... Tell me if you find!
That's it folk. Cheers.
Sorry for a short answer, but Wifi will always be grayed out when your hooked up to your pc, I didnt notice it at first either so dont be embaressed
(subscribed to the thread because I think something that would let you pick your connection type would be ace)

I also noticed this, but yesterday I found an option in Activesync windows mobile device centre on my PC by accident. It says "disable data connection on phone when connected to PC"
If you untick this box you can connect to wifi and GPRS/HSDPA all whilst still connected to the PC through usb!

I guess you'd wanna do that only if your PC is not connected already to the internet... which is rare...
Because your device is automatically connected to the network your laptop/pc is currently connected to.

If your computer uses a proxy server to connect to the internet, your phone doesn't assume the same identity as your PC. At work I can't use the PCs internet connection on my phone when I connect via ActiveSync, but my phone charges and I can browse it in file explorer.
That's one reason why you'd want to do it

android-wifi-tether works! ( I CONFIRMED AND WORKS see post 5) )

Must have temp root...
I found that the 2.0.5.pre8 works got the G2! It's a bit slow because it seems to start and stop randomly, but it works.
If you google android-wifi-tether then go to downloads link, download the wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre8.apk
I can't post links as a n00b sorry.
I'm going to keep going down the list, 1 by 1, and test them all.
I'll report anything interesting.
sn00ch
stupid question but why did you try 2.0.5.pre8 no pre9?
I should have stated that I tried the newest experimental release, but it didn't work at all. In fact, Windows 7 said it couldn't connect. Ubuntu 10.4 never reported any problem, yet it never connected. My phone never buzzed saying that anyone connected with 9.
On pre8, however, I saw my computers connecting with IP addresses, and internet access!
sn00ch
doesn't work here.
I'm back to pre8. Nothing else worked as good or didn't work at all. Back to my original post to use pre8. This time I figured out a way for a FULL SPEED CONNECTION!
Ok, here is a reproduction of what I did to get it to work.
1) Start Android Tether.
2) Have all your computers connect. For me it was ubuntu 10.4, and windows 7.
3)Tell windows to keep the connect automatically in the little network connection tray icon bottom right.. If Ubuntu tries to connect to some other active connection, disable it (right click on the little wifi signal default installed on top right menu bar), and immediately proceed to the next step as fast as you can before Ubuntu tries a known working connection again.
4) STOP wifi tether.
5) Enable wifi tether.
6) BAM both of my computers connected with blazing fast speeds.
Please someone confirm this...

Tethering and the MFG Diagnostic Screen

Check this out:
http://flopek.wordpress.com/2010/11/25/tethering-instructions-for-the-lg-quantum-on-att-usa/
Can anyone confirm this works? I have the Focus and love it, but a friend of mine would like the keyboard. Tethering is a must. Thanks.
I can confirm this works with Windows 7 x64
Thanks! I'll set them up.
Update -
They got the phone. I installed the drivers and set up the phone via the instructions. I added the string to the modem and set up the connection. When it goes to connect, I get an Error 628. Any info on this. I tried several times, but no luck.
Couple of things to try:
1) Clear the username and password and retry
2) Try setting the dialup number to *99# (or *99***1#)
3) Try adding at+cgdcont=1,"IP","WAP.CINGULAR" to the initialization codes of the modem
To be clear, I have not had to do any of these things, but I did have to try dialing several times (4 or 5) before it started working. Now it works every time...
I was able to tether my quantum by just making a dial-up connection and using the standard AT&T dial-up login/password w/ *99# as the number
Okay, I was able to get it to work. Even though I tried switching from MS Composite to QC Composite several times, it didn't take. I switched to MS Default, plugged it in (don't know if this helped but it installed sync drivers). I then switched back to QC Composite and presto - it worked! I guess the phone wasn't switching the USB driver correctly.
Anyway, thanks for the help and suggestions.
Edit:
It still gave out! The next day, I couldn't get the phone tethering to work no matter what I tried. I got more than one type of error message on different tries including hardware errors. I finally came to the conclusion that the phone must be defective. They sent for another one so I'll report on any more issues/success.
Update 2:
I found out there is one small but crucial step. You must turn off the active data connection before attempting to connect as a modem. Once I did this, it connects every time. I just had them turn the data connection back on when they finish.
Step 1:
Go to Settings -> Cellular -> Data Connection and turn it off. Then connect from the computer as a modem.
So simple but necessary on this phone!
Can this work for another network
Does anyone know if I can replace the AT&T settings with my cell phone company's APN settings and still get this to work?

[Q] HTC Touch 2 Data connection problem

Hi all, I'm new here, and I haven't found anyone with my same problem (even though one had it but resolved unistalling everything he had installed more than the ROM...of course i have already tried and even formatted my phone & reinstalled the ROM, but nothing changes)
When I try to data connect 2 messages appear to me..the 1st one says:
"Not able to connect
The answer's modem is disconnected. To verify & eventually modify the connection settings, touch "Impostation"" (I'm translating directly from Italian )
if I press ignore, the 2nd message is right back the 1st:
"Attention
A problem has been verified in the connection of the GPRS service using the registered domestic net"
Any clues? I'm running the latest official italian htc windows 6.5.5 ROM, and I updated to the last RADIO ROM
Thanks
p.s.: the little "icon" near the signal strenght is not white as it always was, but it seems "dotted", like if it is trasparent, even if it does calls & such, it can't connect to internet...
EDIT: I can't access to my home's wifi neither! I can connect to it but it doesn't go to internet (of course it works on every other computer :S)
