Sudden screen on - Acer Iconia A500

Anyone experience that when charging,
the screen suddenly turns on?
I see it happens a few times during charging. Any solutions? Thanks.

Yeah, been happening to me too.
I noticed if u power off then start up again then put it to sleep, it does not wake up.
I think it might be something to do with market for some reason.

the América happening here. It's happening also when it's not charging. I don't know any solution anyway.

I have the same problem on the first day using but it went away by itself.

mine has been doing that too. at random times, the screen wakes up. perhaps the proximity sensor is too sensitive? i *think* that it only happens when i'm just a few feet away from it.

Mine has been doing it as well. I ended up doing a factory reset. So far it has not done it again. Mine was happening while not charging. Not sure if it was while charging.

OK after my factory reset it has started doing it again. Hopefully a fix will be available soon.

Adressing the problem
ADRESSING THE PROBLEM:
I have this 'bug' so now and then...... and I have found the 'problem' : it's the wifi connection between the accesspoint and the tab! I can replicate the 'problem'.
1) on my work no problem. Iconia stays asleep. Router/accesspoint : Thomson
2) at home, downstairs..... problems. Randomly it wakes up. Router/accesspoint : D-Link
3) at home, 2nd floor no problem. Device stays asleep. Accesspoint : Sitecom
So I have adressed the problem to the D-link router. Then I tried different wireless settings in the wifi setup (b/g/n connections, wpa/wpa2/no sec) no luck. The search continues.
It's a first direction. Don't search in apps or something else because I can adress the problem to the router (type).
=> please confirm

I am going to check this theory out. My main access point is a dlink. My alternative point is my older linksys. I'll post a confirmation shortly.

Unfortunately I don't think this is the issue as I have a linksys router.
I believe the issue has something to do with syncing/wifi activity as it does not happen when wifi is off.

OK after testing the two different routers I have had no issues on my linksys. The dlink was causing issues. However I am not sure it is necessarily the router as much as it may be the type of security. My linksys is set for WEP while my dlink is setup for WPA & WPA2. This could be a cause. My tab is working normal now on the WEP secured linksys. I am too lazy to change my router's security settings to verify further since it now works.

I also have a Dlink DIR 655 router and was having the same issue when my acer was connected through N mode. Switching it to use B/G fixed the screen from randomly turning on and off. Hopefully someone has a fix for this.

I will write a little app that will close down wifi when the screen is turned off and will activate it again when the screen is turned on. Maybe this will work as a temporary work around till Acer fixed the problem.

There's a setting under Wifi that allows you to have wifi turn off when the screen turns off, never when charging or never at all. When your screen comes on, so will wifi. The disadvantage of course is that you lose all notification abilities of the tablet when the screen is off as it won't get emails/ims/etc.

Ahh, ok. Sorry I haven't read where anyone has tried that.
GL then.

I too am having the same issue. I use a cisco valet router and notice yesterday that while my tab was sitting on my table the screen would radomly come on. Not exactly sure if it's an issue related to a router, and I am using just wirelss N. I wonder if there is a way to get some sort of dmesg or log or what ever the hell its called to see what the system is detecting at the time the issue arises. If there is a dev to point us in the right direction I would gladly post a log of some sort if I new how to pull it in the first place.

I think this is caused by various programs wanting to synchronize data / mail at different times while it is sleeping. My tab does this when the screen is off; if I quickly push the sleep button when it first comes up it seems to stop it for quite a while. If I have wifi off, it does not do it at all.

[UPDATE]Official Nexus one Wifi issue thread(every N1 owner should read)

Sorry I know this problem probably has been brought up many times. But here I just want to make a total one and collect all the feedbacks from N1 users regarding to the wifi sleep issue with N1.
Let's just make it simple: Every N1 owner PLEASE DO test out the wifi connection when your phone goes to sleep as there are MANY people suffering from this problem all over the world. Especially the later buyers since February this year, almost every phone is potential to this problem.
######################################################
Diagnosis:
1. Set the wifi sleep setting to "never" in the wifi advanced setting menu.
2. Turn on Last.fm app(or Pandora, but Last.fm is most effective and responsive one to test it out), leave the phone on wifi and turn off the phone screen or let it goes to sleep.
3. The symptom is the app will stop streaming shortly afterwards(with Pandora stops maybe after one song, for which I suggest everyone test it for at least 15 minutes). Also most likely you will stop getting any email notification or anything requires data connection. And you might not be able to ping your phone or the ping responses VERY slow as well.
######################################################
######################################################
Background:
This problem was recorded from earliest almost 6,7 months ago and has affected both AT&T and T-Mobile versions(with reports of the same issue on other versions sold outside US). So far, it's suspected that the problem mostly likely lies in the lower level architecture of the phone(either software or hardware) because the problem still exists even after people has replaced the stock ROM with the custom ROM. Another proof is that people get problem with brand new phone and also the replacement phone. Another note is the problem has been found both before FROYO update and after. At this moment, there's no official fix(some Google employee blatantly brushed the issue away and asked N1 users to get over it, check out the link below for original conversation) for this issue except a work around thanks to wifi fixer app developer.
######################################################
This issue is often times neglected by N1 users because usually people don't use the phone on wifi all the time or they simply switch between 3g and wifi. But for people who use wifi a lot or use VOIP, it could be a real deal breaker.
So here I just hope everybody could test your phone out and see if you have this issue or not. Please report how your result turns out in this thread. Also, for further and more detailed discussion and cases, please check this out:
http://www.google.com/support/forum...52&hl=en&fid=01a47ff5b0a92d5200048be07b6cb5c1
You are more than welcome to add your experience to the discussion above so hopefully it can wake google up.

UPDATE:
So Broadcom just released a wifi driver fix several days ago which may solve this issue. According to the record, phones with non-zero MAC address suffer from problem.
The driver has been incorporated into the latest Cyanogenmod(either RC or nightly build). People are reporting it fixes the problem while in some other cases, the problem still exists even after the fix, even for people who's MAC address starts with 00.
Last.fm works fine with the screen off here, always has done. I even turned off mobile data to be sure it's not switching over to that.
This is with the wifi set to sleep with the screen off (ie. the default setting).
i've been using wifi fixer and since i installed it, i haven't had a single wifi disconnect on my home network(it seems to be a network dependent issue as i never have issues on other networks)

yeah, the point here is that many phones have the wifi sleep policy issue(doesn't work).
Indeed, however mine does, so this thread will need both sides of the argument
No problems on my Nexus One, running latest CM 6 nightly build.
I bought it couple months ago from eBay, so I'm not sure which shipment it is from.
Only issue I'm having after upgrading to Froyo is that my phone won't connect to my home network by itself when in range.
I have to go into Wifi Buddy and manually connect. This never happened on 2.1, but magically started after the FRF50 update, and never fixed itself in the next couple of builds.

I have always had this same issue! Maybe its something to do with my home wifi? I am yet to test it on froyo.
I am mostly connected to wifi with no sleep issue.
I have kind of the same issue at home, I recently replaced my wireless router, I never had problems connecting to the old one it would just stop broadcasting constantly but my N1 would always connect automatically. With the new router my N1 keeps saying the connection is disabled and I have to connect manually. This never happens at work, it always connect automatically so it seems to have something to do with the router settings but I have no idea what.
No problems here. Last.FM works fine for me on WiFi when screen is off. I also get notifications. Running FroYo rooted with locked bootloader

that said, using a channel lower than 11 on my router did seem to help with the sleep issue.

sorta, i never had the issue on any network besides my home one
I've also been having the disconnect problem with my N1. Maybe it would help if people whose sleep policy is actually working could post what wifi router/AP/whatever they are using. Also, if possible the first for identifiers of their MAC address. I read on one of the Google posts someone with a MAC address starting with 38:E7 having problems. The MAC for my phone is the same. For what it's worth I'm using a D-Link DIR-655 router and a Speedtouch 716 v5 WL and am experiencing the disconnect on both.
I've had the issue with 2 N1 tested on 3 different routers. I've read that it is related to the low power mode the N1 uses while sleeping not playing nice with routers. Not all N1 show the problem, apparently only the most recent ones. I've called google support and was told google knows about the issue and is working on it, but I am a bit cynical and I'll believe it when I see a fix.
Wifi-fixer fixed my problem only after I disabled Sipdroid which was interfering with it.
Mac adress: 38:E7: D8
I'll post my router model later when I get home.

It's weird because most of the time I don't have this problem. My WiFi stays connected all night long to WiFi. But once in a while it does disconnect and switch to 3g. I think its certain routers, because I didn't have this problem for first 3 months on my old router, now it happens with my new router.
My phone never has trouble reconnecting back to WiFi. Everyday when I come home from work, as I walk up my driveway the phone has already automatically connected to WiFi. I've made sure about this one since I read this problem all over.
I bought my Nexus One directly from Google when it came out for AT&T. It certainly has the wifi issue and it is very annoying. My expectation is that the phone jump on my wifi network when in range as all of my other phones have done. Instead I have to manually engage the phone to get on wifi. SUCKS!
this is the biggest problem for me with my n1.
although the wifi does stay awake, it slows right down..
if i ping my phone, the response time increases when the phone is asleep, but doesnt time out.
if i ftp a file from my laptop to my phone, the speed drops from 1mb/sec to 100kbps/sec when the phone is asleep.
i have found the app "fix my wifi" solves the problem of waking the phone after a few hours of sleep and finding the wifi has failed. if only there was a way of getting the speed to stay the same.

[Q] serious wifi issue!!!

After spending time searching the net for a solution i couldnt find anything as it seems my problem is unique. The issue is when i connect to my router through wifi every thing goes fine however when i go out of range or disconnect for a while and try to reconnect i get a message "Connecting..." then "Disconnected" and it never connects until I restart the router. The issue was worse where it connects for 1 time but the next time it does not detect the router, this was resolved by setting the wifi channel from auto to channel 6. But now i am stuck with this issue that has no solution. I have tried everything from static IPs to mac filtering, i also wanted to update the router (gigaset 504 agu) firmware but could find it. I am currently using x10 with firmware 026 -global. If anyone has a solution plz share it as this problem is really annoying

Well you could provide internet connection to your phone via your computer. What OS do you have and what kind of internet connection (wired/wireless) does your computer use?
Not that I've ever tried or used it seen as I don't have issues but perhaps this might miracally work..

It's an android problem. I have this with my x10 and froyo nexus one. The only solution is to quick toggle wifi on/off in the power management widget. I've seen this happen on a Linksys wrt54g and wrt120n. Same with a D-Link dir655m and dgl-4300. If you are really unlucky like me. Having wifi and bluetooth on at the same time with this problem will cause your phone to either freeze or reboot on its own.
I get this with some routers, what works for me is. Data /3G, wifi off, 3g on, wifi on. I use switch pro to quickly configure the toggles.

WIFI problem after wake-up in Froyo

Hi,
When i open my phone from sleep it shows me that I'm still connected to my wireless but i cannot access the internet. When i turn off and on the wifi it works fine again but as you can understand this is very annoying. I disabled the wifi sleep option but now my battery gets empty way too fast. Has anyone seen a fix for this?
Thanks
I have a simular issue. Does not happen all the time but frustrating when it does. The same fix of turrning Wi-fi off and back on works for me as well.

If i leave wifi on all night and turn off 3g/data after 10 hours of sleep i still have 96% battery left

Same here just noticed it, for awhile I was thinking it was me forgetting to turn wifi back on, but nope its just jumping back to 3g off wireless.
With all my widgets running I don't want to kill all my data on my plan...I'm always around wifi, so this is killing me..
Wifi going off when the device sleeps send to be an android issue. I had this same problem with my nexus one. Never could get it to stay on all the time agen the device slept.

I not sure if this is the same problem but see what happens to mine if I turn My device off or use Airplane Mode when turn on I have no HSPA(3G) or Wi-Fi I can call but no data and I need to do a factory reset to and erase everything make the data works again
The only time mine quits is when I go from wi-fi router to wi-fi router.
Hotspots are ok, but both my home & work routers, both Netgear 614 types
have me reboot the routers if I go out of range, or turn the streak wi-fi
off/on several times. Goofy...tried deleting the profiles and everything else.

[Q] dropping wifi signal ???

anyone else experience wi fi issues ??? tablet keeps losing signal ?? laptop is perfect also my phone is full signal to ?? any fix for this ?? thanks
I posted a thread in this section about the same thing called "wifi strength". It is a problem with the antenna, it gets REALLY bad reception. Mine gets 25db less than my phone in the same exact spot in my house so it is obviously an issue with the tablet.
Someone in the general section replaced the antenna and said they got significantly better results, but it looks like no one has found a US vendor for the antenna yet.
I had this problem. If you have your Wifi set to stay on all the time (even when the tablet sleeps) the Wifi will not reconnect when you wake it up. It's something to do with the rotation of the Wifi address (DHCP).
Change the Wifi disconnect setting to "when the screen goes off." That fixed my problem.
If you setup a static ip address for your connection it will stop dropping the connection. Also, there is a fix for this in the development section. Search for wifi dhcp fix and install it.
Here is the file you need, you have to flash it through recovery so if your not rooted your out of luck. Otherwise the static ip trick should fix your problem.
I've been having problems with this recently. My a500 worked fine for ages, then started playing up when I got a new wireless router (Netgear DGND3300v2). It would keep dropping out, despite my other wireless devices working even better. If I turned the wireless off, it would take ages to reconnect, or not reconnect at all.
My issue was caused with the 11G channel on the wireless router being set to auto. I changed this to 6 and as soon as I did that, it worked flawlessly. Not had 1 problem since.

WiFi doesn't connect automatically with screen off

Hi there. It connects fine as soon as I turn the screen on. Not sure what the problem is. I believe it's a 5.1.1 issue.

I've tried everything. It's not that the wifi turns off when screen is off. It's that it stops scanning to connect to a new network automatically. It'll stay connected to whatever wifi I'm on as long as I'm in range but as soon as I'm out of range, it won't reconnect.
I had the same issue with some non Touchwiz roms like CM and GPE. I believe this is caused by the router. While I am at work it keeps disconnecting, while at home there is no problem at all. So I believe router is the cause of the problem. If you have access to the router, I would try setting to different channels and try.

Thanks for the advice. I had thought that too but I've tested other routers as well. It's a software issue as it works fine on Touchwiz. It's not that it disconnects, it just doesn't switch to any other saved network when the screen is off. As soon as I turn on the screen, it connects right away. All routers and SSIDs.
