He has a point. SQLite Editor + Root Explorer = 3rd party fun.

I've also heard that amazon is working with at&t to make the store work for at&t customers.

Rooting voids my warranty. It allows me to use third party apps, but I shouldn't have to lose a warranty that's part of the purchase price.

most people on here voids the warranty to root it and hack it soo i dont see your logic

you can use sideload wonder without rooting your bravo phone.

There is now an app for that, search for "Sideload Enabler for BRAVO", no rooting required

[Q] Has anyone used "unrevoke" to temporarily root the phone?

I got it and it worked to get a hotspot software program to download install and work, but now it won't work. Is there a newer version I need? Apple lost a court case that forces them to allow 3rd party software, so do we need to root to allow us to use software that we had to root in order to use?

Did you apply an over-the-air update to your phone? The original Unrevoked app only works with the shipping version of the firmware IIRC.

It wasn't a court case and it wasn't aimed specifically at Apple. The Librarian of Congress added an exception to the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) that exempts jailbreaking and rooting from the anti-circumvention clause of that law.
so do we need to root to allow us to use software that we had to root in order to use?

Just because it's no longer illegal to root your phone doesn't mean Google or HTC or Sprint need to make it easy on any of us. It's still up to independent developers to figure out ways to gain root access to the phone.
ok Thank you

Ok thanks Aragorn. That explains it. I did have an update. I think I can still use my wired tether app so it not a big deal. So basically we can't go to jail for what we are already doing, but we still need to root and business as usual. Good to know, thanks.

Google blocking rooted phones to access movie app.

Hope this hasn't been posted before but apparently google is blocking rooted phones from accessing the new movies app.
www.androidcentral.com/google-movies-blocked-rooted-devices?utm_source=ac&utm_medium=twitter
probably wouldn't have used this service anyway
but what a BS move by Google
I hope that this isn't starting point for blocking another services on rooted phones (like whole market)..
Seems like some bad logic... They don't want you renting a movie if your phone is rooted, since you might pirate it. However, you would think if one is technical enough to root their phone (or even know that it is an option), they probably know enough to pirate a movie without paying for it in the first place...
Something tells me this isn't Google's idea. I think they've had their arms twisted.
Wonder how an internet connection can tell phone is rooted .

What he said. Movie studios and record companies are a money grabbing greedy lot who will do anything to continue filling their pockets.
I highly doubt this is Google. It goes against their ENTIRE WAY of thinking/operating.
Google don't encourage rooting, but they certainly don't condemn it - because that's one of the joys of open source development.
Google "making" this decision is like Apple, forgetting to patent one of it's products/possible products...and we all know that will never happen!
As (below/above/previous post said) it has to be legalities with the studio companies.
I don't think it's possible to detect you're rooted. If you have root, you have full control over your OS, so you can make some app think it's installed on non-rooted device. No problem, really.

It's easy to detect root if OS will let you detect it ;-) E.g. you could look for "su" command or Superuser.apk, but it should be possible to hide them for specific app. Also it should be possible to crack an app, so it won't look for root at all.

Yeah. I'm also sure you could move su to another name, and refactor Superuser.apk to use another app name. Then you could create a symlink for su to the new binary, and use a service or daemon to remove it when a particular event occurs.
Or, they could simply be checking ro.secure, which is set in the initramfs...

i'm still searching for a reason to root it :>
i think i'll use agk launcher and see how its going to perform ...
since you cant attach a hdd (or can you) there is not much need in voiding warranty....
do you have any ideas why you want to root it ?

i can't remember i did need root to install the play store...
but maybe i cant remember it right ...
Don't think installing PlayStore on an Amazon device is possible without root. As far as I know PlayStore needs to be system app...
Maybe you can flash it through recovery. But either way I don't think any of this is possible without losing your warranty
For me PS Controller would be priority #1!
*edit:
taking back everything... the "normal" Fire TV seems to allow to install Google Play Services and Store without problems!
But unfortunately I think its not possible for the controller thing

But those are just rumors...

Samsung Pay, MST, and root

I got a new Edge about 2 weeks ago and Im conflicted about rooting vs SPay. Not having Ad Away made me realize how many damn ads there out there and how annoying they are, so I would really like to root. Unfortunately, that seems to block SPay from ever working. I like the idea of MST functionality rather than being limited to only NFC for payments.
Is there an alternative to SPay that uses MST?
why not just use block this?

I'll take a look at it. Thanks for the recommendation.
Also search XDA for NetGuard.
What about other apps that use MST? Are there any?

Haven't seen any. MST is a Samsung owned technology, and they may not have provided any APIs or documentation so developers can access it. And I understand why. Letting 3rd party apps have access to the credit card software would be a security nightmare. No bank would sign up for Samsung Pay if it were that open.

Can you run this via adb to get rid of amazon ads?

Heard you can do it, can't confirm, don't have phone yet.
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.phoenix
Why don't you try it?

Don't have phone yet, need to know if I need to return it brand new in box, or if it works.
There are ways to remove the ads, but they aren't great solutions, and you still have the Locked bootloader.
You are better off paying the extra cash and not having to deal with it.
pay the extra, unlockable bootloader, n yes it works i have the amazon ver
root access should be possible with this exploit

sadly I do not have a amazon variant of the phone to create the root access as they do not exist in germany

It shows you exactly what they are doing with screenshots, seems pretty easy to follow.
Using a computer is all about learning. Why don't you try and follow what they do before just throwing your hands up and complaining about it?
