Exchange ActiveSync problem - Acer Iconia A500

Anyone having hardtime setting up exchange activesync on A500? I can't seem to find an option to set it up.all it has is POP3 and IMAP

That is because it doesn't have it. Touchdown or K9 work. Touchdown for tablets is especially nice.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App

Is it possible to get the .apk from Xoom or ASUS transformer(not sure if exchange is available).
I want it bad as well both touchdown and K9 doesn't work for me but I could easily connect from my desire HD.

Actually now that we have root that may work. I will test it. I have zero fear of bricking anything as I have a hookup on getting it swapped if needed.

it is dumb that it doesnt. The honeycomb port for nook color had it. HTML email and all. Acer must have stripped it out or not included. Come to think of it I am going to see if I can find it in there! would swapping out the mail.apk work, my guess is not till we have a deoxed rom, correct....bummer

And working.

Download, extract, use root explorer to rename email.apk and email.odex to email.apk.old and email.odex.old, place in /system/app, set permissions to rw-r-r, reboot, enjoy.
I would have made a flashable .zip, but we don't have cwm yet, lol.

awsome..cheers mate

I did notice no folder level sync, just inbox. Bollocks. Also, change your signature. It says Asus eee pad transformer.

May be Xoom can sync folders.why would Acer do something stupid like this, scare off the enterprise customers?

Hmm, link works for me. Tested on three devices. I can reupload, but it will be later.

I must be missing a step. I have renamed the Email.apk and Email.odex in system/app to Email2.apk and Email2.odex.
Then copied the 2 extracted files to system/app .
But no go, I don't have an exchange option when setting up email accounts....
I've probably missed something that is totally obvious, maybe someone could point out to me what it is...
Thanks

You probably forgot to set permissions.
This worked wonderfully, thanks!

I did set the permissions... so I don't know what I've done wrong.
Do you now have a setting when manually configuring an email account to setup as exchange, or should I be looking elsewhere for it?
Edit: got it sorted out, it wasn't enough to just rename the original files, I had to take them out of the system\app folder all together. Now it's working as it should. Thanks

Great works like a charm....

Brilliant saves me having to pay for the full version of touchdown!

Does this sync contacts as well?

I'd be curious why you don't just do so through the Market? Either way ES File Explorer is great -- I use it to manage files on my server both through FTP and my local network. Fantastic app it is!

You can get rid of anything in /system/app just by renaming it so it doesn't end in apk.

They don't show up as market downloads.

My bad didn't read far enough! I just tried unrooted and it was unsuccessful. Back on the phone it was easy to do. Not sure if its the same as I'm waiting to root. But go to the menu, click manage, then apps. Again rooted may be a different story.

Don't you need root to be going around and messing with system files? Pretty sure you do, but I might be wrong.

I'd like sabnzbd for android, that way it could download straight to the device and repair/extract after the download finishes
GetNZB (from the Market) allows you to download nzbs from nzb.org and upload to an FTP server. I use it for uploading nzbs to my NAS which polls for nzbs in a specific folder then starts downloading.

I've got sabnzbd working on my xoom. I installed ubuntu using the guide on this forum (in android developments) once it was working a quick "apt-get sabnzbdplus"gets it installed. Then edit the /etc/default/sabnzbdlus to set the user as root.
Once its running connect to 127.0.0.1:8080 and it'll bring up the wizard.
Tada. ;-)
You can install transmisson this way as well with a quick "apt-get install transmisson-daemon" then connect to 127.0.0.1:9091

EZ Usenet guys. It is for Easynews if you have an account and you can download directly to your Xoom or android device. Works great...free version has 15 days of news and paid is of course more days..

Weird EF02 Problem - Edit build.prop, break exchange?

If any geniuses out there know what's causing this, or could help me determine what it is, I'd be eternally grateful.
I changed ro.product.model=SPH-D700 to Nexus S to get Netflix working. Netflix worked, but the email app would crash constantly.. I've since reverted my build.prop file and that fixed it. Is there anything anyone can think of that may be causing this?
A device authentication requirement inside of exchange. Any edits to that might permanently break exchange functionality. Because as I'm aware, it would be both on device and server.

Turns out either A. Netflix works without a build.prop mod, or B. just needed to be installed with it modded. Either way, I restored my old build.prop, netflix AND exchange work.
Huzzah.
Did you install netflix without authentication? The one without "device check"
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Netflix works without the build.prop mod, the mod is only needed to be able to download the netflix app from the market (because it isn't officially available for the Epic, because the Epic doesn't officially have GB yet)
Edit: the post above mind brings up a calif point that I neglected - you need the modified .apk for it to work without the build.prop mod

Looks like only 4.1 support there...
The other link is a patch script - it extracts your existing email client, patches, re-packages and pushes it back to the device. Clever stuff and, so far, has worked across multiple Android versions without problem. Better than a static, patched .apk I reckons...
It works fine on 4.2, been using it for a while now.

Fair comment, but it does mean you're running a 4.1.x email client which seems kinda a shame... :-\

I guess, but its not like the 4.2 email client changed much from 4.1 unlike the gmail client.

"Obviously requires root access and working adb." - so, needs a computer. When I do this it takes around 60s to complete and then I can re-add the Exchange account, which is removed as part of the process.

just needed to reboot now it works.
Any newer versions? I just updated Xylon and now I can't get this to work anymore.
Thanks!!

TW Exchange Email Pin Bypass?

On the Gnex, there was a flashable zip to replace the stock email with one that didn't require you to put a lockscreen pin if you synced an exchange. I like the TW email app, but is there any such equivalent or a workaround (rooted or otherwise) to be able to sync my exchange email and not have to have a pin on my lockscreen?
have you tried

Is it the same email app though? I like the tw email app and would like to keep it. That thread is for the sII and pretty old, so I'm guessing the apk there is an older one than the one that came with the S4.
In some of the custom tw based roms they've got hacked email clients. Could download one of those and pull out the apks. Think it's really the exchange apk you need rather than the client itself (not 100%) sure.

Yup, exactly the same email app, it just patches whatever email app you have on your Rom, it doesn't change it. The only thing is that the patch doesn't recognise the version on the s4, but instead it lets you type in manually, so you just add SecEmail_J.apk, or something like that (the exact file name is in the thread) and it works.....

They both need to be modded, but the above patch makes the necessary changes to both the email apk and exchange apk.

in addition to sydknee's port:
there is no apk / app in the Thread i mentioned.
It's a computer programm that copies your phone's email app, modifies it and then overwrites the one on your phone.
