[Tutorial Advent Vega, pov Mobii, Viewpad 10s] - Steps to flash a new ROM - Vega General

I see often in the forums the questions of newbies about flashing a new stock or custom ROM. What steps are needed to be safe, how to backup data, …..
I created a short tutorial with links to some essential tools named "Steps to flash a new ROM"
It describes the 4 steps you need to know before flashing a new ROM:
1) Backup your system
2) Backup your applications
3) Different ways to flash a ROM
4) How to restore if something goes wrong
Hope it helps some forum members.

[Q] how do I update my kernel

I recently flashed Gio's OTA Froyo 1.8.1 and once it had finished flashing, it noted to upgrade my kernel version.
I've flashed at least a hundred rom's onto my phone, but I've never updated or flashed a new kernel. I skimmed the forums and I found a couple threads:
SGS Kernel Flasher I would look into this but 1) it seems it won't work for my MT3G and 2) if it would work, I have no idea if it would be safe to use
ezterry's 2708+ enabled kernel I was looking into using this kernel with the updated radio version, seeing that my radio version is 2.22.23.02, but my issue is with the guide he posted. Generally I can figure stuff out, but thats because I have simple step by step instructions to follow. I'm tech savvy, but not a genius when it comes to hacking my phone.
I just want to figure out the easiest way to learn how to get myself a new kernel, be it a youtube tutorial video, a step by step guide from another forum (or one here on xda that I somehow missed, because I looked...)
Any help is much appreciated, even if you tell me "look at this thread you noob"...lol
I should also note that the reason I'm not following ezterry's guide is because I have that feeling I would miss something (because I tend to do that) and end up bricking my phone.
- Download a kernel (zip file)
- put it on the root of your SD card
- Go in Recovery
- Backup with nandroid
- Flash zip file (your kernel.zip)
- reboot
- if it's not working (boot loop), simply restore your backup or find a other kernel to flask
Always flash kernel after the rom, because lot of rom has a kernel inside, so you need to flash after to have your kernel.
Flashing a kernel is the same as a rom, no more risk!
Edit :
! Kernel is not the same than SPL or Radio !
Ok, because some of the stuff i was reading had a laundry list of stuff to download and follow, it was just too confusing.

[Q] Step by Step Tutorial for XOOM Wifi + Root + ICS + Team EOS Nightlies Rom?

Hi guys. Can someone please post a step by step guide for updating a european Xoom to 4.0.2 ICS, then rooting it and flashing the Nightlies kernel from Team EOS? I couldn't find a tutorial just yet so I would appreciate every help I can get.

Any guide that shows you how to root + install CWM + Tiamat rom but replace tiamat rom with ICS!
Hey, it's pretty difficult to navigate all the threads and guides sometimes, I'm a new to XDA as well.
This thread should help you out, there's a breakdown below from me as well
If anything below is wrong, could someone correct me - my Xoom arrives today and below is what I understand the process to be from my reading ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
1. Install Motorola USB drivers, Java SDK and Android SDK tools (for adb and fastboot)
3. Unlock the device or "bootloader") allows the flashing or replacement of recovery and boot images
4. Install a modified recovery image (ClockWorkMod recovery for Android). This is known as CWM and is an app that allows you to easily flash new ROMS and Kernals etc to the device.
5. Root the device (Allow r/w access to the device filesystem)
6. Do Nandroid (full backup) with CWM (Optional)
7. Party on and Flash new ROMS / Kernals etc!
====
You can restore your device to Stock by downloading a stock image for your Xoom model and flashing via Fastboot...

ready to install custom rom

Hi all, getting ready to experiment on my Galaxy Note I7000. Don't want to make a mistake. Trying to make sure i am doing the right steps. I want to install Kingdroid rom. My Note is rooted as it has the superuser app. It is still on stock android 2.3.6 and kernal is 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKKA-CL726566root
can i just download the zip files and install or do i need to do full wipe first?
since you are on GB its completely safe to do the three wipes in recovery ( also recommended for clean stable hasslefree boot.)
If you are planning to install Kingdroid v 7 or later you must read the opening post and the last few pages and decide from before what you will be choosing in the Aroma (especially the themes and kernel, mods etc), prateek has made a guide somewhere in the thread, or the phone wont boot, so flash away.....
all the best !

[Utility]-ONANDROID by ameer1234567890-CWM backup on the fly from running phone

What is this? This is an utility to make CWM backups from the running device (without rebooting to CWM). All credits goes to ameer1234567890. It needs downloading and flashing a script file from first post of the original thread and running a command from terminal emulator. It has many options like Custom backup name etc.
For restoring one has to restore in a regular way from CWM Recovery. I have tested this on my 8800 pro andregularly using this.
It needs reading the original thread - at least first feww posts - carefully. Don't blame me if it bricks your phone. Thank ameer1234567890 in his thread not me. I am only a link provider for this awesome utility.

[Guide] Install LineageOS on stock LG G3 D855 with Android 5 (Lollipop)

Since for quiet some time I've tried several methods described here in the forums and elsewhere, I though it is worthwhile to log the one that really worked:
First of all you need to follow the installation instructions.
Second, I'd recommend to refrain from all the Windows-based tools or most of the Android apps (for the exception used here see below). You should also be aware that it is not necessary to flash a new KDZ as several people are suggesting here in the forums, nor is it necessary to update the firmware on your stock device upfront.
Third, it's always a good idea to backup the device (in case something goes wrong) and foremost your data (to be reused on the updated device, since the update will destroy all your data).
You'll need to perform the following steps:
A fix for the radio/modem can be obtained on XDA. I used version 21C which is the latest version that works from Android 5.X upwards.
Install/flash TWRP using Autorec from @bender_007. I recommend to follow this instruction. All other variants/suggestions did not work for me.
Copy the necessary files to your device using adb (radio fix, latest LineageOS, GApps nano in my case)
First install RADIO_D855_21C... then follow the steps starting at "Installing LineageOS from recovery" in the official installation instructions.
Hope this helps -mgw
