NTFS Support - Acer Iconia A500

Hi,
I really miss the missing NTFS support. My 2,5" 500GB portable hard drive would be perfect for the A500, but some files are over 4GB (MKVs for example)
Please make a Custom Rom, that supports this.
Thanks in advance!

Simple answer it cant be done as NTFS is MS closed source. the the movies smaller if u need it. thats what i did with my 1TB drive.

But the Archos 101 can read NTFS...

my guess on that would be that archos licensed it from MS.

Try this apk file. It was done for the G-Tab but it might work.

I don't have this device so I can't test it.

NTFS Mount
NTFS Mount
I've manage to pack all the needed files into an apk so you no longer need to mess around with adding files to system/xbin and writing up scripts.
Please see the market for the latest version (Now called drive mount)
https://market.android.com/details?id=au.dach.drivemount
As above there could be some problems with the Tiamat rom and I'll look into it as I get further information.
Root is still needed
Instructions
Install APK
Connect HDD
Launch app
Select device
Click Mount
Any hassles let me know.
Version 1.3 has the ability to mount NTFS microsd cards by turning off device filtering. It also has the ability to mount multiple formats.

It perfectly works, i was able to connect external ntfs hdd.
Well done and thank you.
Cheers,

Sorry about that, it should have been /mnt/usb_storage not /dev/usb_storage. I'll fix the above post.

Place the files from the Zip into the root of your SD Card.

Are you on Windows? You have to reconnect your Desire and enable Mass Storage to see it.
Works great, very nice one dude!
My fault, i had put the files in the folder on my sd card.
now i tried it whit the files w/o the folder and it works!
It's really nice!
Other icon avaible here: http://www.customxp.net/PngFactory/index.php?search=DESIRE&let=&autorid=&cat=&suite=

if u modify the autorun.inf on the icon part to say icon=whateverfolder\HTC Desire.ico
e.x ICON=resource\HTC Desire.ico
Then you can have the icon in whateverfolder you want, and it will still be read when mounting the device (if your like me and dont like more than neccessary in the root directory of the SD card.
here http://iirojappinen.deviantart.com/art/HTC-Desire-icon-163467079
mmm.... seems that when i copy the autorun.inf and ico file to my sd on the desire.... it deletes the inf file!!!
Thanks for that tiny but nice icon mate

Same here.. if i disable and enable mass storage the .inf file is gone
maybe anti virus software delete it
Don't have such a thing
Its the same for me, even if I make the file read only....
Yeah, it has nothing to do with antivirus s/w ...... my antivirus s/w didnt quarantine anything, or flag the autorun.inf file.... i even disabled the av... and tried again... same issue...!Oh well...
Simple but very good idea! Working well on my desire! Just used the alternative icon with the display on and looke awesome! Thanks!
Thanks ! looks great now and with a personalized name
Tried this a while back, autorun.inf just gets deleted from the SD card when I enable Disk Drive mode.
Absolutely great taste, A+
Same here, since I upgraded to Froyo using the HTC update with sense it kicks off the *.inf from the SD-Card, saaaaaad.
PS: I have no antivirus or else active by the time I tested it.

[APP IDEA] Mount disk image as USB mass storage

Hi, this is my first post here. I've been meaning to sign up for a while, but just had an idea for an app that I can't make and decided I had to spam it somewhere in case it inspires someone. Anyway, here it is:
If it was somehow possible to mount a disk image instead of the actual SD card, it might be possible to have a bunch of handy boot images for fixing and administering computers.
For example SystemRescueCD, Ubuntu's mini install CD and a Windows password recovery disk would fit into about 150MB, which is tiny compared to a 16GB SD card.
Would this be possible? I guess it would require root if it was, but it would turn your Android device into an administrator's swiss army knife.
Sounds like a cool idea if possible...
I was actually exploring this a little bit.
First issue is you can't mount an iso (ISO9660/CDFS) under Android, however, you could an ext3 image. I didn't get much further than this when looking into mounting images.
Second issue is, I have no idea how to tell Android to mount /this/path/to/usb/mass/sotrage rather than /sdcard.
I will be messing with this some where when I can. I think I'd tackle the second issue before the rest of the first one since I'm sure a fat32 (for Windows) or a ext2 image could be mounted and booted from in general.
I'll post any updates if I find anything out.
I've made quite a bit of progress on this idea. I have successfully mounted a usb drive image and been able to share that via USB Mass Storage. My problem now is, I can't seem to get my Captivate to be seen as a bootable USB drive on a PC that is booting.

I would be interested in knowing how you did this, if you'd care to share it
I would like to know how you did that too
I have been wondering/playing around with that same idea.
I also looked for the /system/ect/cdrom.iso file that all these posts seem to mention as well and have been unable to locate it.
There are three ideas that I would like to put out there...
1.) Replace the Virtual "Motorola Driver" CD that auto loads when "USB Mass Storage" is on and "USB debugging" is off.
If you enter the boot menu on a computer with those options. When you go under CD-ROMs to boot from, you will see "USB-CDROM0: MotorolaMB810 000" as an option. This depends on your phone of course.

}
2.) Put an ISO on the internal memory and have the OS auto mount it as per an app or some start up script. (Would be nice to have a widget that when on mounts an bootable ISO for us techs)
3.) Create a 2nd partition on the SD card that computers recognize as a boot drive. (Prob the most limiting of the three and not the one I'd like to see be done compared to the others.
Has anyone looked at this? Can't seem to get to work on my GS3 though...

or read [TUTORIAL] Install Android on HTC HD Mini
I followed this tutorial but from this error ...?
Thanks.
If you want Android on your phone HTC HD Mini, Download the Cotulla's Android 2.1 and you extract the files.. these files will are together and you bring them to the root of SD card and format with FAT32 before bringing files, And when you want to start android tap on named HaRET, That is it, and if you see doesn't work it's because if SD is not enough fast or bad SD.
This files isn't about open file or something else, it's only boots to Android Operation System
Please everyone before asking, see the page, you see it, just ask about haven't asked yet....

Because your SD Card is not signed with a trusted certificate & So it's fails to load. so maybe you formatted by Computer's Format Tool.
And There're two ways to fix this, just do one of them: number one is easier, but number two can be formatted with PC's anytime without this stupid certificate;
Number 1' Format your SD by the Windows Mobile Default one; (Start>Tools>Format SD) Done!
Number 2' Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=720782 After these reading and doing steps you are ready to run HaRET.
And here will be Answered your Question! beside this question has been asked in the Cotulla's Android Page, but no problem... and You're Welcome
bye
Solved my problem.
Thanks.
You know where I can find solution to get ip address by wirelless (wi-fi)?
Thanks.

My book 1tb ( yes i use external power) NTFS
Do i need to format to fat32 to be able to use it with my s5? And if i use fat32, what will be the maximum size of each partition? i will ba able to transfer file more than 4gb?
Thank you.

Edit:fixed this was the good answer to my question
S5 can't read NTFS natively. Needs to be FAT32 or exFAT.
Alternatively you can install Total Commander and PARAGON _ NTFS plugin from the Play store. No root needed. This will allow you read only access.
If you want write access, either format your HDD to FAT32/exFAT or use a rooted methodology.

bump....can anyone help me please? i really need to find the answer to this
Your problem could be due to any number of reasons. You failed to give us any details about your configuration, nor do your image links work.
Common problems include a drive that draws too much power from your handset or incompatible OTG cable. There are lots of other possibilities as well, but it doesn't make any sense to try making a huge list when you haven't provided any context to narrow things down. Tell us in a lot more detail what your situation is, starting with what S5 model you have, firmware version, exact drive model, where you got your cable, describe exactly, step by step, you have tried and any error messages, verbatim.
You might also try searching as there is a wealth of information in existing threads that exhaustively covers the subject.

Well I tried you new links. Four out of five obtain an invalid attachment message. The fifth link works but the Western Digital part number is barely legible. Actually make that illegible because when I try to Google it, it doesn't exist implying that some of the characters are too blurry to make out accurately.
At a miniumum, you need to provide the drive model numbers. And far better would be if you made the effort to look up the specs and see what the power draw is yourself and then post them for us. It's your problem. And while we are willing to help you, you should be the one chasing the details.
For now, I can only reiterate that the most common problems are drivers drawing more current than your phone can provide or a bad OTG cable. You need to provide more information and then someone will try to help you.
.
It will be easier if i can post post external link for picture but i can. and i need to wait 5 minute each time i want to edit/post a message...i will use the preview button before posting now.
