[HOWTO] Flash a radio through hboot. - Thunderbolt Android Development

I'm just trying to help out here and will not be held responsible if you mess up this simple process and brick your device.
Your device must be rooted. Info on rooting your device is elsewhere.
These steps describe how to upgrade your radio via hboot
Also known as how to flash your radio via hboot
The same process for how to downgrade your radio via hboot
1. Copy your radio of choice to the root of your SD card and make sure it's named PG05IMG.zip exactly. (that's a numeric zero NOT the alphabetic letter O)
2. Turn off phone. Hold the "volume down" and "power" release both once the hboot screen appears.
3. Your phone will now scan your SD card for the PG05IMG.zip file and ask you for confirmation to update.
4. Press the "volume up" button to confirm and wait for flash to complete.
5. After completion press the "power" button to reboot the device.
6. Once rebooted, (very important) delete/remove the PG05IMG.zip from the root of your SD card.
Done.

I know this is a stupid question but what is the advantage of flashing a new radio? Also, how do I tell what version I'm currently running?
I just got my Thunderbolt last Thurs. I was using a Droid X before that so I'm not used to all this kernel and radio flashing business.

Consider it like device driver upgrades for computer hardware on a PC. Sometimes it will improve performance and fix bugs etc. Opinions will vary about the advantages/disadvantages from version to version.
You can tell by going to settings>about phone>software info. Look for the baseband version.

I've noticed that some ROMs suggest you flash a new radio. Do I HAVE to or is it just recommended?

I believe its needed to take full advantage of some of the enhancements of the new ROM that "requires" you to flash the new radio.
Having said that, I'm currently running BAMF Remix 1.5 with the stock radio without issues so my experience tell me NO you don't "technically" have to.
Some peeps are reporting random reboots but I'm not sure if the radio is the cause as I haven't experienced the reboots.

Some ROMs will either bootloop or may show no service if the radio is out of date. The Perfect Storm v1.4 that I'm running requires a new radio or you run a good chance of bootloops. Gingeritus also requires an new radio or else it will show no service. Radios are a subject I wish I understood better. It's not a scary sort of thing to have to flash one. Just a different process. It's always wise to check the md5sum on it before you flash it. Bad radio flashes on other phones have been known to brick them. Might as well avoid all possible problems shd take the 2 minutes to check the md5. It will save you a lot of acid indigestion.

I have never really seen an actual guide to do this but it is pretty easy Thanks!

For the Thunderbolt, there are a total of 4 radios that I know of: the stock one, the ota one, the downgrade one from the root process, and the new leaked Gingerbread one.
The first three are Froyo radios, and will likely work with any Froyo ROM (obviously don't recommend using the downgrade one). The last one is Gingerbread only, and will not work with Froyo ROMs and vice versa. (Cyanogenmod is a special case, and only works with Froyo radios)
A good rule of thumb is to follow the instructions in the ROM threads (who'd have thunk it??).

Awesome - thanks for the easy to follow post!
Do you happen to know which radio was on the stock build just prior to the July 8th update? I updated based upon the thread referenced below and now I know longer have a 4G signal.

build..?
I did my first fastboot recovery, even though I didn't need to. Pretty decent operation. Just wanted to get the feel of it. I think I'll be using nandroid and fastboot a whole lot in the near future
Goal: To either build myself, or at least play a part in the building of one sweetest ROM's. I guess i'll start small, with a theme.

Installing JF Recovery 1.43 is just like any flash update for a rom...
You find and download the recovery file. Rename it to update.zip (Keep in mind that windows by default hides the.zip part so if you rename it to update.zip windows actually sees it as update.zip.zip.. This is a common problem.
Then Boot to SPL by powering off your phone and powering up with Home + Power Key.
Once loaded then hit Alt + L (If you don't have a modded Recovery already) and then If you have to wipe(which I usually do) Alt-W then you need to load the new firmware with Alt + S.
If all goes well it will load the new recover image and will reboot back into Recovery mode in which you just Home + Back to Exit and reboot.
I don't wanna step on anyones toes but I believe to load the new image after wipe it'll be alt + s....
Hero beta's
I've triend to install both Beta 2 & Beta 3 of the Hero build, but evertime it got to the setup screen it would force close. What can I do to get past this problem?

With the beta 3 update update on your sdcard boot into recovery and wipe then flash then wipe again then reboot.
If you have a2sd already Use the adb recount Command and then adb shell to delete the system/sd/ folder.
Just a quick question:
I'm currently running
the Android 1.5r2 based Cyanogen build v3.3.1
1.43 recovery img
Hardspl
The latest radio update (the one with the I as the last character)
I would like to update to Haykuro's new bootloader to get more space and to be ready for the upcoming haykuro build, but I'm a bit scared by all the reports of phones getting bricked.
So my question is, if I install it using the update.zip on sd-card method, is there any chance of a brick?
Let me point out that I don't have a microsd card reader available, so I wont be able to flash the build I'm currently using right after updating the SPL. So far it's not entirely clear to me whether this can be a problem.

Before you consider flashing the new spl. Make sure you have a pvt revision board. Power + camera when turning on your phone. It will be at the top. If it says dvt don't flash.
You also need the 26I radio firmware.
If you do not have a memory card reader or a second memory card ten do not flash the new spl. Once you flash the spl, your phone will not boot until you flash a new Rom onto it
I believe this is correct. Anyone with experience care to confirm?
Actually now that I am rested and thinking straight.. Don't you load a recovery image by loading the recovery.img file on your sd card and booting to Bootloader?
Man I was sick and tired last night =)
Go to My Hero Thread and in the first post is the JF 1.43 Zip file you can use to Flash to JF 1.43 in update.zip format.

I am running the newest of everything, currently on Hero BUild 4
What actions should be taken to downgrade to the older SPL. I am getting extremely bad battery with this and can't handle it.

From what I know, its a bad idea to downgrade your spl. Check you screen brightness and your screen time out if you are running an overclock program, try setting it to 384 max 128 min. Double check to make sure your screen actually times out. See if your wifi is running, as well as your gps. If you use twidroid change the rate from 5 minutes to 1 hour

[TUT] Flashing your First GSM 512LEO Rom - With HSPL4 (For Noobs)

PLEASE READ THE *FAQ* BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS OR LOOK AT *THIS* THREAD THANKS TO RZASHARP
ALSO DEFINITELY CHECK OUT THE COMPLETE VIDEO GUIDE TO EVERYTHING *HERE* THANKS TO [★]
This Guide is designed ONLY for HD2 with 512 Mbytes ROM. If you are unsure then goto Settings, System, Device Information, Hardware Information and look at the Flash Size.
If you have a LEO with 1024MB ROM then please use *THIS* guide.
Before starting, backup anything you might want to keep after the new Rom has been flashed as all contacts, emails, texts, notes, Internet BookMarks WILL be lost!!
PimBackup is good and free (copy any mms attachments to your storage card or computer seperately)
*ONCE YOU HAVE FLASHED A HARDSPL ITS PERMANENT. YOU DONT NEED TO DO IT AGAIN WHEN FLASHING NEW ROMS OR RADIOS*
*DO NOT start another process while the flashing process is taking place*
*DO NOT click off of the status bar... Let it stay in the foreground*
*DO NOT let the Screensaver (on your pc) activate*
Any of these can lead to a bad flash and possibly brick your phone
*FLASH HARDSPL BEFORE FLASHING ANY CUSTOM ROMS OR RADIOS*
1. YOUR DEVICE MUST HAVE AT LEAST 50% BATTERY POWER FIRST BEFORE ATTEMPTING EACH STAGE
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
2. FLASH HARDSPL (REQUIRED!! DO THIS BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE)
The Original HardSPL Thread is *HERE*
NOTE: If you have Vista or Windows 7, update WMDC to v6.1 *HERE* first
NOTE: Turn OFF any AntiVirus Program first as it WILL interefere with the flash (there is NO harmful code in the program)
Installing HardSPL4 via ActiveSync with USB Lead (thanks to Bepe)
Note: HardSPL CANNOT be installed via microSD Card.
IMPORTANT: To install/uninstall this HSPL3 there must be any SPL version from this list on your device:
SPL 1.42.0000, SPL 1.62.0000, SPL 1.66.0000, SPL 2.07.0000, SPL 2.08.0000, SPL 2.10.0000, SPL 3.03.000
To Uninstall you can flash a Stock ROM via SD card or use HSPL3 application (You need select 2.08.0000 or 3.03.0000 in the choose screen)
1. Download HardSPL4 package from *HERE* and extract to an empty folder
2. Synch Phone with PC in Windows Mobile!!! It has to be connected to activesync or WMDC via USB cable
3. Run HSPL4.exe from your pc and read all the text carefully
4. When finished reading click next in the HardSPL program
5. The program will now check the usb connection and enter bootloader screen (tri colour)
*You can select between 2.08.HSPL 2.08.0000 HSPL3.03.0000 or 3.03.HSPL. This is to avoid people with 1024LEO's installing an incompatable version and bricking their device*
Android / WP7 / MAGLDR don't support HSPL3.03/OSPL3.03.
You need HSPL2.08 to run Android / WP7 / MAGLDR
6. Select 2.08.HSPL OR 3.03HSPL for HardSPL and click NEXT.
7. Your choice will be flashed to your phone.
8. When its finished the phone will reboot.
9. Click ok to terminate program.
10. Congrats, you just flashed HardSPL.
NOTE: You can also install HARDSPL by entering Bootloader mode manually, then running the HSPL4.exe program once you see 'USB' at the bottom of the tri-colour screen.
*Go into BootLoader Mode (turn off phone, then press and hold the VOLUME DOWN then Press and hold the POWER button. After about 3 seconds the tri-coloured screen should appear). Verify the screen shows the SPL or HardSPL you installed*
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
To Remove HardSPL from your Device or Flash back a Stock Rom and Stock SPL for Warranty Purposes
You can remove the HSPL by flashing an original SPL from microSD card OR by running the HSPL4 application (You need select 2.08.0000 or 3.03.0000 in the choose screen).
* You can also use the microSD Card method to flash back your Stock Rom and Stock SPL that you originally had on your phone*
- Download a shipped Rom from *HERE*
- Rename the extension to .zip
- open it with winzip and extract the RUU_signed.nbh file to a folder
- Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh and copy it to the root of a microSD card thats been formatted to FAT32
- Insert your storage card into your phone
- Enter Bootloader and follow onscreen instructions to flash
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
3. DOWNLOAD AND FLASH YOUR PREFERED ROM
NOTE: Check the Roms Thread for any specific Flashing instructions. If there arent any then you can use the following guide.
Flashing Via ActiveSync
1. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your computer
2. REMOVE SIM and microSD CARDS!! (this is a precautionary measure and is not compulsory)
3. Turn phone back on and wait until it syncs with your PC
4a. If your Rom is a .exe (customRUU.exe is already included in the Rom file) then run the file
4b. If your Rom is a .nbh file then run the CustomRUU.exe from the Roms Folder (if one isnt included then download it *HERE*)
5. Follow onscreen instructions to set up your New Rom
6. Once phone has gone through the customisation procedure then replace Sim and microSD Cards
7. Perform a Hard Reset to clear any leftover data from your previous Rom (see intructions at bottom).
8. Set up phone as required and job done.
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
NOTE (PLEASE READ): If you flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card then it will overwrite your HardSPL with a stock SPL included in the nbh file. This does not apply to custom roms as they do not include an SPL. BE CAREFUL!!
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
4. FLASH PREFERED RADIO (OPTIONAL)

FAQ FOR FLASHING HTC HD2 (LEO)
Q. I can't get it working I need help.
A. If you need help you do need to provide as much detailed information as possible or we cant do anything.
What process are you trying to do? Installing HardSPL? Flashing Radio? Flashing Rom?
List each step you completed and where you got the error with the exact error code you was given if you got one.
Also exactly what operating system do you have on your pc?
If you do not provide this and just leave a message saying "I cant get it working, what do I do?" then I will know you havent looked at the FAQ before posting and you will be referred here.
--------------------------
Q. What is a Radio?
A: The Radio is the Firmware that works between the Operating System and the Cellular Hardware. It handles the Sound, Camera, GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi, Phone Calls, etc. The Radio must be compatable with the ROM's Operating System or you may experience problems with your sound and camera.
--------------------------
Q: What is the difference between SPL, SSPL and HardSPL?
A: SPL (secondary program loader) is part of the firmware that allows your phone to flash Roms, Radios, Splash Screens. Carrier locked so you can only use it to flash Roms from your own carrier.
SSPL (soft secondary program loader) is a temporary way to allow your phone to flash custom roms only (not radios). This doesnt give your phone the protection that HardSPL gives you.
HardSPL (as the name sugests) is installed permanently and allows you to flash anything to your phone. Its patched to protect you against bricking in the event of a bad flash and will let you get back into the bootloader to restore your system when a stock SPL wont. Always the best thing to have.
---------------------------
Q: What is the difference between ROM and RADIO?
A: The Rom is the operating system and included patches, tweaks and programs. The Radio is a seperate part of the firmware on the phone that handles all communation related matters such as signal, gps, bluetooth, camera, wifi and sound. Newer Radios to include improvements or fixes in older version, or even just to compliment an existing Rom or network so a newer Radio isnt neccessarily better. Radios also need to be matched to the correct Rom so you cant just put any Radio and Rom together.
---------------------------
Q: How do Stock ROMS differ from Cooked ROMS?
A: Stock Roms usually have extra 'bloatware' added which take up extra space on the phone. Custom Roms are stripped down to provide more space and most are tweaked to provide a faster more stable Operating System. Every chef is different so you have to look around the forums to see which Rom is best for your needs.
---------------------------
Q: What happens if I flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card?
A: Flashing a stock rom via microsd card will overwrite your rom, radio, splashscreen and SPL with the ones included on the stock rom. With previous devices I believe the HardSPL couldnt be overwritten this way but as bepe developed this version it must have been done differently. Stock Roms can safely be flashed via activesync and this method will flash the Rom, Radio and SPlashscreen but will not overwrite the HardSPL with a Stock SPL.
---------------------------
Q: Can I download official roms from the HTC Website?

South East Asia (Asian WWE) - Serial:HT01XNW03437

Hi Guys. I posted the text below a few days ago in the general section/questions thread but it seams the thread is not so popular .
I just got my hands on the pre-production LEO device (demo device I guess) and I have a couple of questions (this is my first WiMo phone, I have experience with Android and Symbian devices).
Pre-production devices seem to be "unlocked". Besides being SIM unlocked it seems to be SuperCID-ed as well. The latter obviously allows me to flash stock ROMs regardless of the county signature, right?
Now how about cooked ROMs? I persume I would need HardSPL as any other production device? Or does SuperCID have anything to do with the HardSPL?
or
Having the SuperCID-ed device I don't need the GoldCard?
I have tried searching the forum but I believe that my lack of WiMo terminology is slowing me down.
Thanks for any input in advance.
Hi I was hoping you could answer a few of my queries on flashing ect
1. SSPL seems like a better path to go down as it stops any warranty voiding, which means I can still get my phone repaired in the future - good . However how come most people always wait for HSPL? Im guessing its because HSPL only has to be ran once or something, so everytime you want a new rom from then on, theres no need to flash so no risk of bricking? Whats the pro's and con's of using HSPL or SSPL ? ( I personally was more keen on SSPL as my warranty isnt affected )
2. How come some rom chefs say that their roms cant be used with SSPL and you have to wait for HSPL ???
3. What are the possible errors/outcomes when something goes wrong when flashing with SSPL? how does a phone become bricked and are there any ways to recover it?
4. Whats with goldcard? is that only when someone needs to flash official roms if there particular leo is branded to a particular GSM? Mine is an unbranded, unlocked model so will I never have to worry about goldcard?
5. If my device does become bricked and there are no ways to unbrick it, what can I do to get a repair ect? someone suggested bunging it in a microwave for 10 seconds and then sending it off under my warraty claiming that I turned the phone off one day, and the next it wouldnt turn on (seems quite a clever idea, but a little extreme)
6. Can someone explain to me all about the radio? it seems to be a key part in flashing. What is it exactly, Im guessing its more complex than the fm radio lol, but I dont understand what it does to the phone, and I see only certain radio versions and compatible with certain rom versions. Also I see that flashing wih SSPL means you can only change OS's and splash screens, so will that create certain problems if you want change the radio version?
7. Im planning on flashing to THIS rom, for speed and performance while keeping some eye candy (Also I want to try windows mobile 6.5.3) is this a good choice?
Thanks all my questions for now, I would be SO appreciative if you guys could help me out as flashing is quite a scary concept for a £500 device
I hope someone will help me

If your phone has been CID Unlocked (SuperCID) then you will be able to flash Stock Roms from other carriers but I think you will still need to use SSPL to flash Cooked Roms.
Hope that helps.

1. HardSPL is always the best way to go if available as once you have it on your phone theres minimal chance of bricking than flashing without it as you will always be able to get back into the bootloader to flash a stock rom if anything goes wrong. Even if you put HardSPL on your phone you can always flash back a stock SPL in the event you need to return it for warantee purposes.
2. I would guess that those Roms include maybe a Splash Screen or Radio which cant be flashed using SSPL.
3. Theres always a chance that something can go wrong in whatever you do. HardSPL gives you the ability to get back into the bootloader and flash a stock rom if you need to recover your device.
4. GoldCard is for flashing Stock Roms from other carriers. If your phone is unlocked then that means it is sim unlocked and not carrier unlocked (SuperCID) therefore you would still need to use goldcard if you wanted to flash a Rom that isnt directly from your carrier.
5. If your phone does become bricked and you dont have HardSPL to recover it then there are many ways you can try to get a new one under warantee. My favourite is pouring sulphuric acid over it and saying aliens broke into your house and tried mating with it but you can go with your own idea if you want to lol.
6. The Radio really isnt a radio haha. Its a seperate firmware that handles all the communication related parts of the phone. This includes the signal, bluetooth, wifi, sound, camera and gps. Until HardSPL is released the only way to change the Radio is to flash a stock rom which always includes a radio via goldcard method.
7. Thats the cooked Rom I flashed on my phone yesterday and its a very fast and stable Rom with no bugs that I can see. The download exe file includes the SSPL so unless you want to change the radio first its just a case of synching and flashing.
Hope these answers helped and good luck with your flash. The first one is always the hardest but do everything by the book and you shouldnt have any problems
Thanks for all the help, Im glad I didnt flash with SSPL just yet, I think I will wait for HSPL as it seems that I can still get my warranty back with it (but I just thought, what if you had to send it in for it not turning on or something, and they found a way to get it running, they would then see the spl was changed as I would not have had the chance to change it back)

that isnt directly from your carrier? what do you mean, mines totally unbranded and sim free ect, so It doesnt come from a carrier, meaning I dont need goldcard right?
(Heres another question while your around, I went to send a massive text to all my contacts, ( I changed it in the registry so I could have more than 10 recipetents so thats not the problem) wishing them a happy new year, and It appears that it is not working, even after applying the hotfix some messages are in the outbox and some in the sent items folder. Whats with that?
Thanks so much for answering, especially this early in the year/morning (haha) happy new year to you sir!

Might just be overloaded as there are quite a few people texting at this time and I havent been able to send a text on my phone for the last hour lol. Thats why I always send mine out early to beat the queue

Official ROM upgrade - error 260
I have downloaded the official 1.48 upgrade exe from HTC. I have a choice of computers, win 7 64 bit or win xp 32 bit on which to do the update. I have tried both following the instructions within the package and both get to the verification stage and stop with error 260 - no connection. Can anyone tell me precisely what to do to get around this?
My HTC is a purchased unlocked device and I can explore the 16 GB card via Explorer on either PC

I would recommend using the windows xp system to flash as its more stable.
What method did you use to flash the Rom? You need to do it via GoldCard method described just follow the link in the first post and follow all the instructions to the letter.

I was following the instructions given in the ROM Upgrade software downloaded from the HTC site. It undertakes a verification of your phone software, but for some reason keeps saying it cannot connect with it. I had it connected via a USB cable. Maybe I need to speak with HTC on Monday.
I thought it might be Kaspersky stopping it, but switching that off didn't fix it. Perhaps I haven't got the computer sync'd correctly with the phone. Its not very obvious.

Dev Phone 1 vs G1 updating process

Ok, after more than half a year of using stock Dev Phone 1 Android 1.6, I'm ready to make the jump to Cyanogen 2.2 Froyo, but I'm a little confused as to what the differences in this process are between the G1 and the Dev Phone.
I have no idea if I have root, or at what stage the directions diverge from the beginner's guide (not allowed to post link).
If anyone could get me going on this, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!
You bought a developers phone... and you don't know if you have root.... or... really?
No, the process is no different. Except you don't have to downgrade to flash a recovery image.
I know I should have root, but I don't seem to have a su directory in the system folder and when I tried ROM using manager to update, it said I didn't have root... but maybe it's just wrong.
Since I have no idea what the previous owner did to the phone, I can't really be sure what to do.
But one thing for sure, using flashrec, I get "backup failed", which may or may not be related to root, but I really have no idea of where to go from here.
Very simple.
DO NOT INSTALL NBH FILE,
DO NOT INSTALL 1.33.2005 SPL.
First install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
note: the "via terminal application installed on the phone" method *will not work for you* since you ONLY have root via adb/recovery console.
Then go here and follow the instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717874
*** this will yield you significantly MORE space in the userdata partition than the dreaded 1.33.2005 SPL. That means MORE space to install applications -- about 30 MB more space, which is WAY better.
Ok, I was finally able to flash the recovery file, but I have a question about the next step.
According to the begginers guide, I need to partition and load a new radio:
III) Partitioning and Loading the latest radio
1. Scroll down to "Partition SD Card"
2. Click "Partition SD"
3. Press the Home key to confirm
4. Use the trackball to increase the "swap size" to 96MB then press Home key
5. Make sure "EXT2" is set to 512 MB then Click the Home Key
6. Make sure "Fat32 size" is set to remainder and then press the Home Key and then the phone will begin partitioning.
7. Once partitioning is complete scroll down and select to "SD: ext2 to ext3" and then press the Home key. Wait for it to upgrade.
8. Once the Upgrade is complete hit the "back" button to get back to the main menu. Then scroll down and select "USB-MS Toggle" and wait for it to enable.
9. Now plug the phone into the computer again. Now transfer the files downloaded earlier: G1 Radio, G1 HardSPL, Generic G1 Rom w/ root, to the phone. (AGAIN KEEP THE FILES JUST IN THE SD CARD AND NOT IN A FOLDER OR SOMETHING)
10. Once the transfer is complete hit the Home key to disable the USB-MS toggle and return back to the main menu of recovery mode. Unplug your phone.
11. Scroll down and select "Flash .zip from SDcard"
12. Select the G1 Radio file (named OTA Radio or something like that) and hit the Home key to confirm. DO NOT SELECT ANY OTHER FILE, THE RADIO MUST BE DONE FIRST.
13. Once the Radio Flash is complete Press Home+Back to reboot the phone. It will then say "writing radio image" and then reboot back into recover mode (this will take some time)
14. Once back into recovery mode, scroll and select "Flash zip from SDcard" again.
15. This time choose the SPL file (named somthing like "Latest G1 SPL.zip") and then click the HOME KEY to confirm.
16. Once it finishes, hit HOME+Back to reboot once again. It will say "writing boot image" and then reboot
back to recovery mode.
17. Once again scroll to "Flash zip from SDCard" and choose the Generic G1 Rom file (Named something like Generic G1 Root Rom.zip) and click Home to confirm and wait for it to finish.
18. Once finished it should go back to the main menu and say"Install from SD card complete"
19. Now click on the "Reboot System Now" choice. (Home+Back)
20. Wait for the phone to reboot back into Android.

I already have the latest radio... so is this necessary, or can I just proceed to step 4? Also do I need do update the SPL and Geneic rom if the ROM I currently have is the RC83 (The 1.6 Android Dev Phone Rom, which should theoretically be rooted)?
Thanks to anyone who's willing to help with this!
Don't make this any more complicated than it is by following guides written by retards.
YOU DON'T NEED GUIDES!!!!
In fact, if you think you need a guide, it means that you don't understand it well enough, which means that you MUST NOT use any guides.

Well, lbcoders right... But I'll help you a bit.
If you have latest radio, there's no need to change it. Also, you need to get an Engineering SPL NOT the Danger SPL/Hard SPL/1.33.2005. lbcoder made a pretty cool discovery that makes the Danger SPL obsolete. If you don't know what the Danger SPL is, it's the number one reason for bricked devices. A bricked device is nothing but an expensive paperweight. Also, you only need to partition for ext! After 2.1 ROMs, swap is no longer needed and actually slows things down.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717874
READ THE WHOLE THREAD! When you read it once, read it a few more times. If you end up bricking your phone for not reading (and its very possible), don't blame it on any of us.
Also, you need to read more! You're asking very basic questions. I've been through this before, and the guy flamed me for telling him that he's going to brick. Guess what? He bricked a few days later. You need to read more guides and watch more videos via youtube. If you can't understand after that, you probably just don't need to root.

Confirmation of Receiving 2.2 OTA after Downgrade

I saw a few threads on this, but I wanted to clarify the procedure that I did, in the hopes of helping others.
My configuration was ShadowRom v0.0.1 with S-Off Rooted, etc.
NOTE: THIS PROCESS IS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE S-OFF ONLY-
1. I downloaded an original 2.1 PB31IMG.zip and put it on my SD card
2. Power off the phone and then hold the volume-down button and press power again to boot into FastBoot
3. Wait for FastBoot to read that there is an update and then press Vol-UP to start the update
4. After the update is finished, it will asK to reboot. Reboot the phone and it will boot back into FastBoot mode again (I don't know why, but it is verified.) Then it will give you the option to use FastBoot again. Press power button to start that mode. Apply the SAME update a second time. Then after the process has completed, follow the instructions to reboot.
5. You will now be downgraded to 2.1. Sign in as you normally would and go through the setup motions. Then go to Settings-Applications-Development and turn on Development when USB connected.
6. Download the S-ON zip from unrevoked and put that on your SD card. ALSO MAKE SURE TO DELETE THE ORIGINAL PB31IMG.ZIP from your SDcard!!! Download the Unrevoked 3.21 (you guys are gods) tool and connect to your pc to root the phone again.
7. Once this process is completed and you are in the clockwork recovery, go to flash zip from SDcard and flash the S-ON zip file that you put on your SD in the previous step.
8, Reboot your phone and go back to your normal Rosie with the clock, etc.
9. Download the 2.1 RUU that is labeled RUU_IncredibleC_Verizon_WWE_1.22.605.2_Radio_1.00.03.04.06_hboot_0.79_release_161494_NoDriver_0514.exe
10. Run this RUU with your phone connected. This will update the ROM from 1.22.605.0 to 1.22.605.2... at least in my case. Other PB31IMG.zip files may contain lower versions.
NOTE: The purpose of running the RUU is because you had to have root to flash the S-ON tool and now you need to flash a RUU to have the original Recovery... The easy way.
11. After you run the RUU and it flashes your phone with an update, log in like you normally would handle the setup and connect to WIFI to setup your google account. At some point, shortly after the setup, you will have a notification to install the 2.2 upgrade. From this point just follow the directions. This process DOES take a while and it will boot the phone over and over and display screens of a brightly lit phone and no words, OVER AND OVER.
I hope this helps people who are concerned about warranty issues that are related to legitimate hardware problems and need to have S-ON and a normal recovery and ROM that is stock. Thank you to XDA and everybody. I have been on here since my G1 and JesusFreke and Haykuro and TheDude. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to say where I was pulling the files from, but I'm sure that they will be easy to find for serious users.
Red.
-God Bless.-
Wouldn't it be the same if I s-on ed and then RUUed to 2.2?
As far as I know the two updates are almost identical. However there are some minor differences. The purpose of this thread was to make sure there aren't any at all and to verify receipt of stock OTA. As far as I can tell you have to have stock recovery AND S-ON because otherwise your 2.1 Rom will show as being up to date.

Edit: spelling.
You say there is a minor difference between the RUU 2.2 and the OTA 2.2.
What is it? I want to know as I haven't found any. I already know the major difference between the OTA and RUU is that the OTA can only be applied if you have the correct radio, hboot, recovery, and android OS.
Please explain as I have yet to find any thread that gives a detail list of the differences. I mean both the OTA and the RUU share the same build number. If there is a difference between them then the build number should be different.
Also I would like to add that according to the news that has been posted about conflippers website http://shipped-roms.com/ (Updated: Is now not owned by him but by PPCGeeks)
The the rules that HTC put on him is that he is not allowed to host test builds. He is allowed to host the files of the official releases.
This should also mean the the RUU that is hosted their is the correct build that is on our phones.
These instructions confuse me. How is this different from the "get back to stock" thread?

MyTouch 1.2 (aka Fender, aka LE) w/3.5mm headphone jack

Does your new MyTouch have a 3.5 mm headphone jack?
Are you confused on wether it's a 32A or a 32B?
Do you need to know how to root it?
Do you need to know how to flash a custom recovery and which one?
Do you have the right radio?
Are you afraid that you might brick your phone?
THEN THIS IS THE THREAD FOR YOU!!!

IF READ CORRECTLY YOU WILL NOT BRICK. BUT, Since a few of you dont have that ability, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU BRICKING YOUR PHONE. There are no pros to rooting this phone yet, leave it alone if you dont know what your doing PLEASE. I beg you. You are in essence almost bricking your phone in order to root it in the first place. These arent fun and games, It is dangerous to rush this stuff
Listen.. Im more then happy to help people. BUt I fully understand why so many devs have left this place. Some of you are so utterly ridiculous with your questions, wanting someone to hold your hand. I cant sit on gtalk for hours helping you go through what should take 10 min , I have a life and kids and other things to do. I did this because I was bored and wanted to see if I could. There is not point in rooting it yet, there are no roms, nor will there be for at least a month. Please, if you cant even understand simple questions, have never rooted or even used an android phone before, please.. do not bother me. This place is insane with stupidity. I will change the tutorial in a little more detail later, but fo rnow, DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YORU DOING. IF YOUR BREAK YOUR CRAP< I DONT CARE, BECAUSE IT WASNT MY FAULT.
I am in no way an angry or mean person, but you people have given me a migraine. I see why all the rom devs hide from here so much
THERE IS NO POINT IN ROOTING THIS PHONE YET PEOPLE, SO STOP.. OMG PLEASE STOP LOL
IT HAS BEEN DONE!!! lol
After 3 days, sleepless night and 5 min from returning the phone, Together with the Awesome Cursordroid We have achieved full root of the fender mytouch/ Mytouch 1.2 revision.
Now.. Understand.. not many will have the fender Mytouch.. but this is the hardware they WILL be using in the fully confirmed Mytouch 1.2
If you do not follow my instructions fully, NOTHING WILL WORK.
Start by making a working gold card, pay VERY CLOSE attention to what the instructions for making a gold card say
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/14/how-to-root-your-mytouch-3g/
READ READ READ. DO NOT download the SAPPimg.zip file it says on that page.
Get the top fixed SPL file 2010 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4332591&postcount=1
Once you have you working goldcard (remember, apply to PHYSICAL not LOGICAL) rename the fixed SPL/rom you just downloaded to SAPPIMG.img
Put that file on your gold card
Hold volume down while hitting power
You will boot into Hboot, and if goldcard was made correcly and file is in root, it will begin to read. MAke sure battery is full or chargeing. follow on screen directions for flashing. Reboot into Hboot.
You are now screwed with a downgraded SPL and radio that do not work on this phone YAAAAAAY.
Now grab the stock radio and SPL from Cursordroid here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5451898&posted=1#post5451898
From there on follow hiw directions for reupdating your radio and spl, plus give yourself a new recovery making ROOT.
Im not good at tutorials or typing on a tiny netbook keyboard so please forgive. Anyquestions please ask and I will go into more detail
In order
Goldcard
Amen ras fixed spl rom renamed SAPPIMG.img
Boot into Hboot volume down/power
let rom install saying yes to what it says. If it works..
Now boot into your recovery through fastboot
Flash phone with stock fender rom
reboot into fastboot
back out of update when it asks and flash STOCK radio and SPL back, now reboot
your splash screen for fender IS GONE, get over it. You can make a new one later if you realllly need to.

Installing CyanogenMod on the 32A (myTouch 3G 1.2 / Fender LE (3.5mm jack) version) requires an additional step whereby a "gold card" is created as part of the installation process.
The process of upgrading from a stock ROM is fairly simple, following the instructions below.

Before you do anything — Make a backup
Don't forget to back up your data. If you have synced your phone with your Google account, your contacts, calendar, Gmail, and some Google data will not be lost and will come back after the next sync; However, you should backup anything you want to keep that is not stored on your SD card.
SMS/MMS messages
Call Log
Bookmarks
Applications; use Titanium Backup or the Astro file manager, for example
Any application data not on the SD card
It would also be a good idea to back up everything stored on your SD card in the rare case the card must be formatted to resolve any major problems.

Downgrading
1.Download the sapping.zip file from here: Link Mirror 2.Place the zip file on your newly created Gold Card. If it isn't already, shut the phone off and place the microSD card back into the phone.
3.Then turn the phone back on by holding down Volume Down and Power. It should boot into bootloader mode and automatically find the sappimg file and ask you to push the trackball (action) to begin the update. Push the trackball and let it update.
4.Once it finishes flashing, it should ask you to reboot. Reboot and let it load to the new "htc Magic" boot screen.
5.Chances are at this point that the phone will not successfully boot. THIS IS NORMAL. Simply remove and re-insert the battery, as we're not done yet!
6.Download the following zip file (the stock myTouch SPL and Radio) and extract it: [1]
7.Copy the two files inside the zip to the root of your SD Card
8.Take the latest Amon_RA recovery you downloaded earlier and copy it to the root of your SD Card.
9.Download terminal emulator from the market and run the following commands:

Easiest method!
Easiest method!
candymanmike said:
This is a guide on how to root your phone and install a custom ROM using Universal AndRoot. It supports several phone models and is the simplest way to root a phone I have ever seen. It features a 1 click root and a 1 click unroot option. Rooting with this method does NOT affect your bootloader, therefore if your phone needs serviced you can (theoretically, I have not verified this to be true) simply unroot and restore to normal.
As always myself, XDA, ROM developers, your friends, your mom, the rulers of the world and the developers of this app are NOT responsible for any bricks YOU create by taking the risk of rooting your phone. Also there are no guarantees that your warranty will not be null and void. If you NEED your warranty, DO NOT root your phone. Use at your own risk!
First we will gather the items needed to complete this process.
Universal AndRoot Version 1.6.1 is the newest STABLE release. The newest version is 1.6.2 beta 5, which is where the updated list above comes from and is said to be very close to the final release version.
Next go to the Android Market and install AppInstaller (there are a few versions including appsInstaller by modmymobile, all are free)
While in the market, also grab ROM Manager (also free)
Next download the ROM you would like to use. I personally recommend CyanogenMod 6.0.0 DS - stable. This link will take you to the Cyanogen downloads section where you will have to select your phone and search for the ROM you want.
While you are there, also grab the Google Addon pack for your phone.
Of course it is up to you to choose a ROM you like. You can also keep your stock ROM if you choose.
Lets Begin!
Install the Universal AndRoot .apk file, the ROM you chose and the Google Addon to the root of your microSD card
Open AppInstaller and let it locate your AndRoot .apk on your microSD. Select it and install it to your phone.
Open Universal AndRoot from you app menu. It should read your phone and show your firmware version. Click the "Root" button and let it do it's thing. It really only takes a minute or 2. When finished it will let you know. Congratulations, at this point you are now rooted.
Now for a custom ROM!
Open ROM Manager. Install Recovery. The default recovery for ROM Manager is ClockworkMod Recovery (which is what I am using) but a lot of people seem to like RA Recovery. This option is at the bottom of ROM Manager under "Flash Alternate Recovery". Whichever you choose, let the Recovery flash.
Next choose "Backup Current ROM", then "Reboot Into Recovery" (for future reference, you can also get into recovery mode by turning your phone off, then hold down the "home" button hit the power button. continue hold home as it powers on.)
Chose "wipe data/factory reset" then "wipe cache partition". This step is important. I know from personal experience if you don't do this you may end up in a bootscreen loop!
Choose "install zip from sdcard". Navigate to the ROM you loaded on your microSD and flash it.
After the phone reboots (which can take a few minutes the first time after flashing a new firmware version) go back to ROM Manager and again choose "Reboot Into Recovery". Once in recovery, again choose "install zip from sdcard". Navigate to the Google Addon pack on your microSD and install it.
Once you are rooted and running your new ROM, go into ROM Manager and partition your sd card. This is optional.
That is it. You should be good to go! Way easier and faster than the old goldcard method!
This is my first XDA guide. I hope it is up to your standards!

NO! 32A roms WILL NOT WORK!!!!
As Amon Ra put it:
"The following instructions :
will void all warranties of your phone!
will erase all your userdata!
will change your current ROM/SPL!
will change your current splash screen!
could brick your phone!
Proceed at your own risk!"
So I've taken the guide that I used to root my myTouch 1.2 with T-Mobile, updated some of the information, and added some explanations. All thanks is owed to The Unlockr for the guide, I'm merely going to attempt to explain what your actually doing in the process and just try make the whole ordeal easier. If I would have known what i was actually doing, it would have taken me 45 minutes to root my phone, vice the good 7-8 hours I put into it. I am by no means an expert on rooting, so feel free to critique what I put in here, and I'll make adjustments as needed.
What's unique about the myTouch 1.2 and the Fender edition is that both phone's have a "perfected" SPL, that does not allow for fastboot access via USB. This means that you can't push any command prompt commands to the phone from your computer, which is what you have to do to get the phone rooted. With these instructions, you'll flash a "non-perfected" SPL onto your phone, load up a custom recovery (which is how you will load up ROM's and do a few other things in the future), and then reflash the phones original "perfected" SPL. Without the original SPL, your phone will not function correctly.
I would suggest opening all the links before continuing so you won't have to wait for the downloads to start as your going. Make sure you remember which link is which tab!!!
From The Unlockr:
I. Setup ABD/Create a Goldcard
Follow this procedure completely to create a working goldcard, then return to this procedure and continue:
How to Create a Goldcard
Follow these instructions without fail. If anything get's messed up here then you won't be able to flash a new SPL and you'll have to attempt to remake the Goldcard again. If you attempt to load the sappimg without using the Goldcard or without a properly done Goldcard, you will get either "Incorrect model ID" or "Main Version is Older". The Goldcard basically tricks the phone into not checking these two parameters, which is what let's you get the "unperfected" SPL on to your phone. ADB is the program that allows you to have a command prompt interface from your computer to your phone.
Note for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users: When your setting up your phones drivers during the ADB setup process, be sure to allow Windows Update to check for drivers. It will allow your computer to automatically install the drivers vice having to manually install them yourself. The option to turn it on should come up when Windows gives the notification that it was unable to install drivers for your device
II. Flash the Sappimg file
1. Download the Sappimg File and save it to your newly created goldcard (NOT in any folders, just on the Goldcard itself).
sappimg.zip
2. Once the sappimg.zip file is on your goldcard, turn off the phone and put your Goldcard SD into your phone. Then turn it back on by holding down Volume Down and Power. It should boot into bootloader mode and automatically find the sappimg file and ask you to push the trackball to begin the update. Push the trackball and let it update.
*If it tells you Error – Wrong Model ID or anything similar, the goldcard was not created correctly, go back to that procedure and try again.
Here your loading an Engineering SPL, so that we'll be able to get access to the phone via Fastboot USB and load up your new recovery. Be patient once you turn your phone back on, as it will unzip the file, then check the contents. If you get an error, you've got a problem with your Goldcard and need to redo it.
3. Once it finishes flashing press the "Send" button to reboot and you will notice your touchscreen does not work (don’t panic). Turn off the phone, then turn it back on by holding down Back and Power (to get into fastboot mode).
4. Download these two files and save them into C:\AndroidSDK\Tools folder you setup during the ADB setup procedure:
Stock MyTouch SPL
and Radio
5. Then download the Custom Recovery Image and save it to the C:\AndroidSDK\Tools folder you setup during the ADB setup procedure as well:
Amon Ra’s Recovery
6. Now that you have the recovery, spl and radio all saved in the tools folder of the Android SDK (same folder as the adb program), plug in your phone (while in fastboot mode from step 3).
7. Open the command prompt on your computer and type the following with hitting enter at the end of each line:
cd\
cd AndroidSDK\tools
fastboot devices
A serial number should come up, indicating that your computer can see the phone in fastboot mode. If so continue by typing in the following with hitting enter at the end of each line:
fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot flash hboot hboot.nb0 (the 0 at the end of this line is a zero not an oh).
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
8. Once the phone starts to turn back on begin holding home and power (do not let go until you see the recovery mode) to boot into recovery mode.
This could take a while. I believe the first time I tried to get in I had to hold them down for ~1 minute before getting in. You should see the HTC Magic splash screen pop up first. There is a guide to changing out the splash screen (which is just a picture) within these forums but I'll leave it to you guys to search for it.
9. You should end up in Amon Ra’s recovery mode.
10. At this point, you want to plug your ORIGINAL SD card into your computer and copy the "DCIM" and "Music" folders (if you have them) over to your computer to backup your pictures/video/music. Then take the Goldcard out of your phone and put your ORIGINAL SD back in.
11. With your phone connected via USB to your computer and in Amon Ra's Recovery, highlight USB MS and press the trackball. This should mount your SD card to your computer so that you can move files to it.
12. Download these three .zip files:
Cyanogen 6.1
Google Apps
614 MHz OC/UV Kernel
You need the OC kernel because there's a known issue with CM 6.1 having a green tint without flashing a new kernel.
13. Copy those three files over to your phone's SD within Windows, "Safely remove hardware" in Windows, then disable USB MS by pressing the Home button. Back out to the main screen.
14. In the recovery select "Wipe" and you want to wipe "data/factory reset" then "Davik-cache".
15. Back out to the main menu and select "Flash zip from sdcard". First you want to select " update-cm-6.1.0-DS-signed.zip" and hit Home to confirm. Once complete, select "Flash zip from sdcard" and this time select "gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101020-signed.zip" and hit Home to confirm. Once complete, one again select "Flash zip from sdcard" and this time select "oc614-cm-2.6.34.1-6.0.0rc2-signed.zip" and hit Home to confirm.
16. Back at the main screen select "Reboot system now". This will load your phone back up as normal and you should now have a working rooted phone with the Cyanogen 6.1 ROM! Jump in there and check it out.
If you want to try out a different ROM, check this thread out. Go to the section called "MT3G 1.2 / LE Fender".
Credit to DonJuan692006 for this.
Thanks to Amon Ra for his recovery images!
Thanks to Unlockr for the original How To!
Thanks to the Cyanogen team for an awesome ROM!

wouldn't it better to recommend to use Pershoots OC/UV/XTRA kernel? It does OC to 614, is more current than Dumfuq 2.6.34.1 kernel.... honestly been pretty stable.
the previous builds of 2.6.35.9 and lower did not have the 3.5mm audio support.. but it was re-added in the 2.6.35.10. It also resolved the green tint issue of CM6.1-DS

Yeah I use pershoots myself from the rom manager.
Another OP made the thread actually and sent me the HTML via e-mail.
614 isn't stable for me though.
My Thoughts and Things to Know
READ ME BEFORE DOING ANYTHING TO YOUR PHONE OR STARTING A NEW THREAD!!!!!
The myTouch 1.2/Fender is a rather unique device. If you boot into fastboot you will notice that the following information is displayed:
Code:
Sapphire PVT 32A Ship S-on G
Hboot-1.33.0013 (Sapp31000)
CPLD-13
RADIO-2.22.23.02
Oct 21 2009
Let's break that down a little bit.
You see in the first line 32A...but this is very misleading. The myTouch 1.2 is actually a 32B device, just with 32A memory and controller, but it IS a 32B device for pretty much all intents and purposes.
Secondly, you'll notice S-ON. This means that remote security from the bootloader is enable. What does that mean for the user??? Simple, you'll never be able to run a remote fastboot command.
Second line, 1.33.0013. This is your SPL and the ONLY SPL that will allow the phone to function properly. This, as well as the radio, will always need to be the stock versions or you'll either brick your phone or never get a ROM to work.
Also to note, this is considered a perfected SPL. What does "perfected" mean? Remember the "S-ON"?? That is what makes it perfected.
Lastly, the radio, 2.22.23.02. There is actually now a newer radio, 2.22.28.25 available, however, I personally have noted no real performance gain/loss. Again, along with the SPL, you will never want to change this unless you absolutely know what your doing or an expert tells you to.
Now, on to the good stuff.
How do I root my phone???
The first few posts of this thread are the various methods to go about rooting the myTouch 1.2/Fender. The easiest and least dangerous method would be to use one of the one-click root programs such as Universal Androot or SuperOneClick. These methods will give your phone permanent root permissions (permanent until you do a factory reset or receive certain OTA updates later on down the road). The big deal here is that with root permissions you are able to download a nice little application from the Market called ROM Manager that allows you to flash a custom recovery onto your phone. The custom recovery is the bread and butter of modifying your phone. It allows you to flash custom ROM's, flash new kernel's for overclocking, etc.
What radio should I use?/What's the best SPL?
Simply put, don't mess with your radio or your SPL ever except for under very specific circumstances. Those circumstances being, your rooting your phone using the goldcard method or you need an engineering SPL to be able to run a command from fastboot. Even in either of those cases, this should be done very carefully and you will always need to revert back to the original SPL/radio. If you ever need to run something from fastboot and are thinking about flashing an
engineering SPL to do so, make sure you ask an expert first before proceeding. The number one reason for people bricking their phone is because they have taken it upon themselves to try flashing random file they've found via Google.
What ROM's can I use?
This is an easy one. Pretty much any ROM made for 32B phones that does not require a specific radio. I haven't personally tried this out, but I've had reports from a few people that just about every ROM for the G1 not requiring a specific radio works for the 1.2/Fender. Worse case scenario if you flash a ROM that isn't going to work, you'll get stuck in a boot loop and will just need to flash a new ROM or restore a backup.
What is a backup?
A backup essentially saves the state of your phone. For those computer savvy, it's like creating an image of a hard drive. The easiest way to create a backup is via a custom recovery. Both ClockworkMod and Amon Ra's recovery's include backup applications (e.g. Nandroid, Bart, ClockworkMod). Immediately after achieving root, getting your custom recovery installed, and verifying that your ROM boots properly, you should create a backup. This way, if your phone ever starts going down the tube or you manage to hose something up with your ROM, you can simply restore your backup and be back up and running. This will not fix a truely bricked device however, so don't get your hopes up.
Is my phone bricked?
The basic definition of a bricked devices is one that will not boot into a ROM, will not enter the bootloader, and will not enter recovery. If you still are able to boot into any of the three mentioned, your not bricked and there's a chance to save your device. The problem is that when most people get close to this state (they can only get into fastboot for example) they'll go into a panic and start trying any and everything to get their phone back up and running. This is NOT the thing to do. If you ever are stuck in a similar situation, please come ask for help and don't do anything else with guidance.
How do I get into the bootloader/recovery?
All of these steps are to be completed with the phone powered off.
For fastboot - hold back+power until your loaded into a white screen with the Android dude skateboarding.
For hboot - hold Volume Down+power until your loaded into a white screen with the Android dude skateboarding.
For recovery - hold the home button+power until your loaded into your recovery. For the stock recovery it'll be a triangle with an exclamation mark in it and an error pointing to a box. Hitting the home button again will get you the rest of the way into the stock recovery. If you have a custom recovery you will be loaded into a basic menu.
It's essential to familiarize yourself with these menu's. Before you do anything to start rooting, you should boot into fastboot and right down the information there and keep it somewhere. If your run into problems later on and you can still get into fastboot, make sure you get in there and right down what it's showing then. Make sure you include whatever your fastboot information is whenever your posting about a problem in the forums.
That's all I can think of for now. So good luck!
kernels and spls
Could anyone help with two (or four) nagging questions I've been trying to find answers to?
1.a. what is the difference between droidbasement.com/g1/kernels/ram/2635/17/boot-cm_2635.9_ds_32b-oc-uv-xtra-ram-fp-120810.zip
and

?
1.b. I have successfully flashed the first one on my device to fix the green hue issue on CM6.1. Is there any benefit to flashing the second?
2.a. I would like to change my splash1, but can't use fastboot because I don't have the Engineering SPL. Is there any easy way to change the splash1 without having to do the 3-step process of a) flash to Engineering, b) update the splash screen, and c) flash back to stock SPL?
2.b. OK this may be a long shot, but as a programmer, I'm kind of curious: if the answer to 2.a. is "no", then, is the "splash1" image saved in any recovery files anywhere when you do a backup (e.g. if I go into ClockWordMod ROM Manager and choose "Backup Current ROM", does the backup include the splash1 data?), and, if so, would it be feasible to search the recovery image for the splash1 data (e.g. with a program that looks for a binary string matching the raw data of the current splash screen)-- of course, the data would have to be raw and unencrypted and uncompressed-- replace it with the new splash1 data, and then do a restore from the resulting modified recovery file, in order to change the splash screen?

droidbasement.com/g1/kernels/ram/2635/17/boot-cm_2635.9_ds_32b_radio2708-oc-uv-xtra-ram-fp-120810.zip is for the 2708 radio which you DON'T have so don't flash it.
No. Flash the Engineering SPL, flash the splash screen, flash the stock spl back. Only way.
No. Splash files are not saved or effected by nandroid. So you can flash the splash screen and restore a nandroid backup (or clockwork backup, whatever) and you'll still have your splash screen.

not just cm6 roms like yoshi and enomothers when ever i flash them and then the right kernel i just get stuck at the splash screen
I've flashed Yoshi and it did not work at all. It boots to the spalsh1 then to the Android but bootloops from there. So no on Yosi. As for Enomothers, I have successfully flashed this rom and and enjoyed it. However, read all the information before flashing. He has certain requirements that are not compatible with our phones.
Which version of Yoshi are you guys trying?
