[Q] Restoring backed up apps when using CM7 on SD card - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying out CM7 by running it from an SD card. If I have my apps backed up onto another card (via Titanium Backup), can I unmount the CM7 card and put that one in? Or does the CM7 card have to remain in the entire time?
Would I be better off just copying the backup data to the CM7 card first and restoring from there?

Bought a new SD card (how do I copy everything intact)

Hey, I just got a new larger and faster microSD card for my phone. I tried just doing a straight copy of the data from one card to the other, but it doesn't work. How do I do a copy that works like the old one does and keep my Fresh ROM intact as well?
couple ways of doing this...
#1. If you do NOT use a2sd
just mount your old sdcard to your computer and copy all the stuff into a folder on your desktop or something.
Then unmount the sdcard on your phone, replace with newer one, move everything back
#2. if you DO use a2sd heres what you do, or im guessing
First star on #1
Boot up into recovery and make a nandroid + ext backup.
Replace sdcard with newer one then partition it like you did to your older card
Move the nand backup you just made onto your new card
Nandroid restore it, then move all your other data onto your card

[Q] data.img

I tried to do a backup of the sd card and I think I may have taken the card out whilst android was still running. When copying the stuff from the sd card, data.img would not copy, some error. Now when booting in Android it gets stuck on the circle boot screen. I would guess that the data.img got corrupted. What happens if I just deleted it, would android create a new one when booting? I am using android on sd card Core droid with 1GB data image. Will I lose settings/programs?
unfortunately you will lose your data. next time instead of taking off your card use usb transfer.
SHould I delete it and Android will recreate one?
delete all the files related to the rom. the best format the sd card.then put a new sd rom and flash from beginning. the rom will create a new data.img.if you arent using titanium backup (from the market) i recommend you to use it in the future for similar cases to this.
format your card and do a clean intall

[Q] How do I backup SD Card ROM (Apps +System Data)?

Hi,
I have the DL DesireZ SD MAGLDR Android ROM for HTC HD2 on SD and LEO "Stock Desire" on NAND. I have been using the SD card ROM for about a week now and am happy with it. I would like to backup all apps + System Data & cache (of the sd card ROM) and restore the same to a higher capacity card.
Which would be the best way to do it? (I do have CWM installed through ROM Manager on the sd card ROM).
If I boot into another ROM from the same SD card, will it pick up the apps+data+cache from it?
Will the backup be created on on the sd card or internal memory? I'm not sure there is enough space on internal memory.
I apologise if my question has been asked/explained earlier on this forum. I did try to search for an answer, but was not very sure; as this is also my first stint at backing up.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If you plan on using the same build on the new SD card, then just copy the Data.img over. If you are changing builds, use Titanium Backup free on the Android market. This will create a copy of anything you need on a folder on your SD card, and you can restore this at any time.
sd roms live in their own folder. just move this folder to the other sd. all your information and apps are in data.img in that folder. but just in case use titanium backup.
all sd roms use their folders. so you can use more than one sd-rom naming their folders differently with very few problems.
Thank You Nigeldg and mutil for your prompt replies.
Really appreciate it!

I use Titanium Backup free, too.
You can choose "Backup all Apps + system Data" and restore them on every ROM you use.
I have just downloaded Titanium backup free - will be backing up and switching cards shortly.
I've switched the cards, and everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for the help, everyone!
The only thing is, the internal storage has not increased, even though I have increased the partition size of ext2, could it be because I've just dumped all folders on FAT32? Anyway, that's not a major issue.

Partitioning SD card. Need a little advice.

Hey kids. I've just flashed to CM7 and i figure now is as good a time as any to FINALLY partition my SD card and use it like i should. Problem is, i've been moving apps to the SD card for months. No doubt there are remnants of app installations from prior ROMS. How do i go about cleaning out the dead weight before i backup the card and partition it?
You can backup your SD Card the reformat it with Windows in a card reader, put it back and partition it, boot up and the required files will write themselves, then move the stuff you KNOW you need back to the SD Card. Flash a new ROM or A2SD and you should be set

Can I upgrade my SD card using Titanium Backup Pro

Hi all;
Have an ATT i337 S4 rooted and I want to upgrade my SD card from 32 to 64Gb. I do have some applications on the sd card. Using Titanium Backup Pro can I do a full backup and restore to the new SD card including applications or do I have to move applications back to phone, do the backup, restore and then move it back apps to the SD card.
Thanks

If you have a pc, move everything to your pc, insert your new sd and move everything from your pc to your new sd.
You can also do this with moving all to the phone memory (make sure to make a folder inside the phone mem to prevent merging)
Even the apps? As long as I could read everywhere the apps won't work by just copying them to PC and Back....
Hi,
Just tested here using Titanium Backup normal. It successfully backed up and restored an app that was installed in my sdcard. App was also reinstalled in sdcard.
By the way, in PC you will be able to backup internal and external sdcard only! Those folders like /data, where your apps actually are, won't be able to be backed up.
