Does this applies to M2 as well? - Milestone 2 General

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13130567
What do you think?
Also, happy easter

If they can hack the bootloader, then maybe we can get something because I doubt they'd have changed the signing process much since they know it keeps custom ROMS off to a degree. We'll have to wait and see if they get anywhere.

Moved to proper forum.

I think it is only for the atrix

Vibrant Custom Q's

It seems like the custom ROMs out right now are for the international version, right?
There should be ROMs coming for US-specific (IE, Vibrant), correct? I just don't want to get something I cannot customize. What scares me is that Samsung will update it to 2.2 and not release 3.0 later on?
Coming from the Touch Pro 2 scene where there are lots of variations as well, there should be roms that are compatible with multiple handsets and even some geared towards specific phones. Additional add-ons might be required for button layouts or something but I'm not sure how it works since I am speaking with experience only in the Windows Mobile area.
Regarding the update, it's really hard to tell since we don't even have the 2.2 update yet. But hopefully, they'll continue to support the Galaxy S as it's Samsung's direct iPhone competitor.
We should be able to flash any firmware for the galaxy s including the modaco rom. The real question is will we be able to get a hacked recovery to stick like amon_ra or cynogen ? Ps my phone comes this week im freaking excited!!

I'm excited to and I'm exited to be apart of building the vibrant section hopefully can atleast beat out the captivate and fascinate page
Thursday morning I'm waking up early and picking this baby up. I hope we can gain root the same way as the international version.

same going to be at the store 9 am to pick it up then head straight to xda for a root and a cfw that would be a dream
Hopefully the source code that was released by Samsung for the Galaxy S is the same for the Vibrant, which I see no reason why it would change but it is Samsung. If it is, I will help to port CM6 over to the Vibrant. The source code from Samsung that I downloaded yesterday has from what I could see with my quick glance over the drivers (baseband, sound, screen, etc) that would be needed to bake up a custom ROM.
That would be so awesome. I really don't care about samsung supporting this phone, as long as they let devs do their thing. Meaning not to lock up anything ala droid x

It doesn't matter if they don't officially update it to 3.0, when there is root, there is a way!

not nessecarily true lol, take a look at the Motorola Milestone for an example, they have had root for a long time now, but cant load a custom rom due to an encrypted bootloader.
That's why I'm saying that if samsung doesn't do it, let the community have what it needs to do it themselves, look at cyan. My g1 should've been obsolete a year ago, but on the contrary its as strong as it was when I first rooted it.

If the drivers are there, 90% of the work is done. We'll have the latest roms (barring some unlikely extreme performance requirements).

Haven't checked in a while but the Behold 2 was a pain in the ass to root. And Samsung said that they didn't want people hacking their phones. That was a few months ago, since I don't have the phone I haven't checked back. I'm getting this bad boy and hopefully there will be a lot of support for it.

Second that. Took me 1 minute. Maybe less, LOL. Running tests, everything seems to be working, SU permisions et al.
Not sure on boot, but it seems that Samsung didn't even try to make it hard.
I went back to winmo for a while, and while the HD2 community is great, have to say glad to be back on android.

The behold 2 wasn't too bad to root me and kam187 had it rooted shortly after it launched. The custom roms part was the hard part lol.

The fact that modaco has a custom ROM out indicates that it's probably going to be fairly easy for us.

Unlocked Bootloader?

Hello all...
I apologize if this has been asked already but does the A500 have an unlockable bootloader? That's really the only thing holding me back from purchasing one.
Locked...at the moment, check the recovery thread below to follow the progress.
Sent from my Droid using XDA Premium App
locked isn't that big of a problem...locked and encrypted IS.
I'm picking up a camera at best buy tonight and if I get my tablet (which I was planning on getting soon anyway...just wasn't decided on model) at the same time, it will be interest free for 18 months
I'll probably grab the A500 and see if I can contribute development wise.
EDIT: I'm going to hold off a few more weeks yet...I waited this long, I can wait a little longer.

Got one on the 18 month dealio as well....
I am just not much help in the dev department
Rather than start a new thread, I'll just post my question here.
I'm about to pull the trigger on the Iconia, especially with the deals going on right now. I know the bootloader is locked, but I'm wondering what does it limit us from doing? We have root (is it temp root?) and we can flash ROMs. What can't we do? And in case Acer stops releasing updates, can we update it with ICS by flashing?

The bootloader is NOT locked. It IS, however, protected by a hashcode. That's what the "itsmagic" tool does, it recalculates the hashcode after flashing a ROM so that the device can boot.
If you forget that step (our custom CWM does it for you), say hello to bricksville. Otherwise, we can do what we want.
Thanks for the reply. I figured something like that a few minutes after I posted. I was just confused at the complaints that the A500 was locked in other forums.
So to be clear, as long as someone can port it, we will be able to get "updates" even if Acer drops all support?

Just got my Nexus S 4g

Since its the first day its been officially released I dont expect CM7 to run on it yet. I am looking to root it though, and im sure i can use the oem unlock command right?
Will the Nexus S 4G be getting it's own section like the CDMA hero did?
yes it will, boot into fastboot, on your computer run the command fastboot oem unlock

Well, there's still a lot of people debating on whether to try adjusting roms for the Nexus S to work on it or split into a separate development thread. They're still unsure as to whether or not things can be adjusted to work. So it'll be a little bit while devs start wetting their toes on it and figuring out if they can use their old work.

More specific? Any CM7, AOSP Gingerbread ROMS or stock or what?*
*assuming "Gingerbreak" is a typo and not some other rom.
It is a one click root method for 2.3 devices

I vote for separate sections. Some people don't like that idea. I do so that it reduces confusion, there are going to be so many people asking if it works on this phone or that. People flashing something the wrong thing for their phones. Some people think that the newbs deserve bricking their phones because of the way things are organised now. It would help keep things more organised instead of it scattered.
Gingerbreak, I didn't have any luck.
I saw, when I was snooping around in the system folder, that there were a few sprint specific programs and settings. Even if you made a rom that had the radio flash separate, there are carrier specific files and settings that probably wouldn't play nice together.

Follow those instructions, except for the flashing CM7 part. You can use the same recovery. Then flash this zip in recovery and you'll have SU.

[Q] Atrix Unlocked Question

Okay, so I just came back from a weeks holiday and logged in.
I'm overwhelmed, bootloader unlocked, awesome!
But, are there any roms yet, or is there a post where a rom is being developed?
Thanks
Nothing yet, still some p-roms. Be patient I'm sure things will start popping up soon. Dev forum is going nuts though, I suggest you read up on some of the developments going on there.

Official release of gb is not out yet. You can unlock your device and install a release from Asia for now.
It has bugs but there are fixes for them.
Probably no roms or kernels until official release and source code... Hang in there.... The atrix is about to get a whole lot better!

I guess I will add my question here:
I recently bought an unlocked Moto Atrix. [I'm not sure if its 4G, it doesn't say so on the box]. I got the from Rogers working on it, MMS and everything else.
its Model: MB860
System Version: Version.4.2.1.1.MB860.Retail.en.FR
Android Version: 2.2.2
Built number: OLYEM_U4_2.1.1
I love the phone, everything's cool, except this Froyo doesn't have google contact groups in it. I read on forums, that Gingerbread has the option back. (i remember using HTC Dream, it had those functions).
So, at this point, what could be my options? OTA update is not available. Neither is there any update when I connect it to PC with moto software.
any suggestions or helpful comments?
THANK
This will be a hard one seeing as you bought the phone online or from a friend. Now, I know there are plenty of threads in development about upgrading to gingerbread. Also, to answer your first question, yes the atrix is 4g. Be very careful about upgrading. Doing something wrong is a very quick way to getting a very expensive paperweight.

Yea, I bought it used over kijiji. The phone is like new and was unlocked.
I guess, i'll wait some more time.. an update isn't really required.. and I love the phone as it is
Thank you for the kind response.
No problem. I've been reading about a lot of people bricking their phones because they don't do something right. If you do something, just read everything twice first. Good luck. And glad you love the phone, welcome to the atrix.

Should I have waited for the dev version note 3?

I get that it will have an unlocked bootloader and such. But does the release of this mean no one will bother with unlocking the non dev version. Because id really like me a custom rom.

As of now beanz said that only safe strap will be worked on for the non dev edition . which means only custom tw Roms. No kernels, no aosp. No one mentioned the possibility of bootloader unlock, as he mentioned time after time to wait for Dev edition.
Hope that answers your question
I could not wait for a phone that I all ready like... but that being said I wonder if Knox will be on the dev edition? A asop note??? Would be lame!
damn this sucks. the note 2's bootloader was unlocked within a few weeks of release.

But even with an unlocked bootloader on the dev edition, how many ROMs, kernels, etc. will be available? I know that Beanz and some other devs said they will get it, but the number of ROMs will still be fairly limited. Not sure if it is really worth it.

It will be limited because not as many devs will have a DE version of this phone. They might be able to port some roms but it won't be anything close to the note 2 community

Well, the note 3 just happens to have a chastity belt of a bootloader which is also guarded by bastard of a shot gun called knox.
Who's to say any tampering with the boot wont trigger knox and void us all to warranty hell.
I was looking forward to using an unlocked bootloader just to get the kernels ect, but I come from the Droid Bionic so im fairly use to using safestrap.
If I can get the bloat gone, deodexed, with a few cpu scripts ill be happy.
Well I giess id be happy with some TW kit kat roms. As long as it imprives battery life and rids the rom of all un-nessesities.

Wish I knew about how the bootloader was screwed. I Purchased 2 note 3's at full retail, and sold both of my note 2's, only to find out about the bootloader issue after it was all done. I had been so busy at work I didnt have time to research the note 3 very much. I just assumed it would be similar to the note 2 bootloader. This may be what causes me to leave vzw. I hate that they refuse to allow me to use my phones the way I want.
Your departure will not be noticed. Should probably research first before spending 1500 dollars.

I bet you feel better about yourself after being rude for no reason.
The note 2 was never intended to be unlocked by Samsung. Adam outler and the xda guys just happened to find a easy way to unlock. Of course once Sammy figured out how they did that, they had to patch that hole and make it harder for devs.

At no point did I "whine", I stated my situation. I also never said I needed my exit from vzw to be noticed, or that it was anyone's fault other than my own. You just seem to have a need to be negative towards me and my situation. Which, from the beginning I said was my own fault, and that I didnt have time to research because I had been very busy at work. and you immediately began talking down. Realist or not, your still being a rude for no reason. Do we know each other in real life? have I offended you in the past? I dont understand why you have such animosity towards me.
I have been doing 80+ hour work weeks for the past month, and wanted to purchase the phones as a reward to myself, and my wife who starts a new job on monday. I had experience with the note line, and it was an excellent product. So I thought / assumed I would have a similar experience with this product. why that offends you? I have no clue. but by all means, lose as much sleep as you need to over the situation.
Just relax buddy the phone will be unlocked soon enough
