Interesting visit to the sprint store - Epic 4G General

I brought my phone in so I can have a tec look at it. I have a dead pixel and a bad usb port. I get my replacement either monday or tuesday.
there was another guy there that dropped his phone off right before me. ( another epic ) and when we went up to the counter to grab are phones they told him to wait another 20 minutes that it wasn't done. He started flipping out and yelling at everyone. There was another guy on the phone with sprint cause they said the same thing about his evo. I got mine right away no additional wait.
The tech started to talk to me about root. I had the background from my theme on ( no root all stock ) he told me rooting my phone voids my warrantee. He then asked me about acs and the emotionless beast theme. I than counter attacked him about him having his phone rooted and then introduced my self as mysteryemotionz and the creator of the emotionless beast theme. He then treated me like a celebrity and called all the sprint employees to meet me.

Awesome. It was clear to me from visiting one or two of the better Sprint stores that some of the employees there are very much aware of what's up with phone modding. I think there is a healthy contingent in the entire Sprint company that has a fairly easygoing attitude to people who are familiar with what XDA does...they know we're good customers and powerful advocates for their business.

You ARE a celebrity. Haha but that's hilarious coming from the sprint people. Any special perks other than the recognition?

If you think 20 minutes is bad, you should see the store near me, if I have to go there then I need to make sure I have an ENTIRE AFTERNOON to waste.

Mystery, when I use to work on the HTC Vogue, the entire North Florida region Sprint stores and Radioshack used my ROM and treated me like royalty. It was amazing
Now I work for Sprint, not so special anymore

Nice... I've said it before,Sprint is very aware of what goes on at XDA,I know several people that take a real interest.

Anyhow that's hilarious You deserve the extra attention as I am sure your a big reason some epic owners even bother keeping their phones just to have your theme and our roms on it!.
Its not illegal to unlock YOUR PHONE! Wasn't that clearly defined by law just not to long ago? What you own is yours? Thus for it can not clearly void your warranty.
http://www.intomobile.com/2010/07/2...in-us-feds-exempt-smartphone-hacks-from-dmca/

Here in Long Beach I "fix" some of the Sprint guys phones. When I go into the shop to see what's new we usually STS about rooting and romming on all the high end hardware. Haven't worked on the managers phone yet, but he seems pretty interested as well.
I got 3 extra batteries that didn't cost a dime...

Cool story bro

when I bought my Epic the cute salesgirl told me that she couldnt wait for her epic, and tried to hint to me about rooting, I told her I kinda knew what that was, but said 'isnt that against contract', and she basically said not really wink wink... then told me that the techs rooted all the employees phones... acting like she thought everyone did it. Pretty cool... other than one tech that store rocks...

Cleaned. Any more will result in infractions and bans.

Mystery I love your work keep it up. Its what makes me want to keep my epic.

When I got my epic I had him switch my TP2 to one of my other lines. I had a different ROM with the newer 6.5 task bar thing going on. He was shocked and kept playing with things... he didn't care what we had on it. He said if it didn't work he would just reload the phone.

Sure...
I spoke to sprint advanced tech support and he hinted that it would be a Sprint iPhone, though he admitted he would not put money down on that.
It will NOT be a Sprint iPhone. if it is I will cancel my service with them immediately for two reasons.
1. An IPhone for Sprint = not an industry first (people aren't seeming to grasp this one, though its not necessarily your prediction just what a rep said)
2. The iPhone 4 is already a device that is on the brink of obsolete. In a world where dual cores and 4g are becoming standard, the people buying iPhone for Verizon are asking to get left behind. If Sprint, who has been doing a great job of staying ahead of the game, decides that taking two steps back and calling it an "industry first" is a wise new game plan, I may as well throw in the towel.
Remember, a vast majority of sales reps, really don't know what they are even talking about.

May have been slight exaggeration... but, innovation and making that tiny effort to stay ahead is the main reason I go with sprint. The fact being that the company has been doing a great job leading the game without being the biggest in sales or subscribers would make all this fuss over an obsolete phone, instead of putting that money to better uses, would definitely make me question if I should go to Verizon or ATT for their soon to be superior phones (atrix, bionic, thunderbolt) if that makes sense.
It would be a huge letdown to me if all this hubbub was over a phone two other carriers have.
I really don't think the announcement is going to be the Iphone. I doubt Sprint will even get Iphone on there service until the Iphone 5 is out with 4G and a dual core. Anyway this thread was meant to be a joke. See, the OP said that Sprint's big announcement will be that the Steelers won the Super Bowl, which would not be making the impossible, possible. I hope the Packers win just because they beat my Eagles and the Eagles actually should have won since they lost by 5 and the Pro Bowl field goal kicker missed 2 FG which would have been 6 points and the win. I guess I could take a little more pride in losing by so little to the eventual SB champs.
I highly doubt Sprint is going to spend the money to get the Iphone on their service. Just Google how much Verizon will spend on Iphone. If Sprint does just expect some serious rate hikes on your next plan.

Lol. Hate the Steelers, but don't really care about the Packers either. Should be good though.
The thread was a joke... and I got myself a chuckle from it haha. Mostly because steelers=black and yellow, sprint = black and yellow, and.my music player = wiz khalifa "black and yellow" all in one glorious moment of things adding up just right haha.
My posts are simply at my infernal irritation at people desperately clinging to hope that its an iPhone (which I admit to being a very biased, avid iPhone hater), and the relentless "My sales rep said...." comments. Odds are, if anyone in the public REALLY knew? EVERYONE in the public would know. It's called a leak champ. haha.

Know a little inside info on the annoucement from Sprint Vendor :) Feb 7th

Okay guys don't troll me here but I did find out a little bit about the announcement. So, let's hope it's an HTC device that does something amazing hopefully...once again, please no trolling just passing on the info I received from my store when the Sprint vendor came in to setup a display at the mobile store in my store.

Not saying he's making $ off of you, but I guarantee you he thought that by telling you some "inside" information you'd stick around and buy something. Again, I deal with all vendors daily, I hate them and should all be fired, except Best Buy, they're the most honest vendors out there. Radioshack and all others suck.
This is the announcement
Its pre-beta-5G.
But it's only available on select planets in the solar system.
A premium $50 a month data fee will be charged to your plan whether you can access it or not.

Actually, realistically, retooling the iphone for Sprint would take minimal effort. No iphone is or ever will be branded, so basically the Verizon one is simply a "cdma iphone" programmed for Verizon. I'm not HOPING for this as the announcement, as I actually switched to android from an iphone, and I'm happy I did, so I don't care either way about a Sprint i-turd. Just saying it would take very little to do it.

Is there any confirmation of Sprint even announcing anything at CTIA?

Im just wondering because im looking at the CTIA schedule and see AT&T, Qualcom and some other mobile announcements but I dont see anything from Sprint on there. So im just wondering...
I'm pretty sure they'll be MIA.
Would you show your face after hosting a press conference for the Kyocera Echo?
Pretty sure they're planning on releasing a 5G phone with AOL data speeds.

EVO 2 and WiMax are on hold right now, with Sprint's ongoing saga with Clearwire. It's at a point where they are thinking of going complete LTE, and just move away from Clearwire/WiMax. Clear could avoid this death wish, by using Sprint's Network Vision and calling it a day. Both companies will make an substantial amount of money, and your 3G speeds will be back to normal.
The only way the EVO 2 debuts at CTIA, is if HTC/Sprint rehash the Inspire 4G/Thunderbolt/Desire Z for Sprint, and call it the EVO 2. It won't be close to the actual original EVO 2 designs(Sabor wasn't either), but to appease the public, that is what may happen. By the way, HTC/Sprint's love child has been in the works a year and a half before Engadget leaked the news. "Supersonic" wasn't even the original codename for the device. News did leaked months before the device dropped, but that info was late too.

EI22 Quest

So we know that EI22 is out there, as it has appeared on a repaired phone. I just called a sprint store with a repair center in my area and was going to ask if they can flash the latest EI22 but I was on hold for longer than I can deal with right now. Maybe someone else would like to give it a try? Remember, you have to find a sprint store with a repair center, so that should be the first question you ask when they answer. The way I see it, one of those centers will be able to load EI22... and then someone here is gonna be able to dump and be the hero.

Because it's fake!!!!!!! Why are people giving this guy any credibility? The release should be up to EJ by now. EC05 came out March 21st....16 days difference. So if we had an update coming it would definitely be from the beginnging of this month.

Seriously the guy needs to make a video of the phone booting up and then going into settings and showing the world what the phone says. Then it will be a little more believable I suppose. I mean he's been offered money for a system dump and hasn't done it. I'm sure he's reading XDA and knows what a contribution he could make to all of us if it's true but isn't doing anything.
I don't think that tactic of calling something a hoax ever works in terms of getting someone to do what you want. In your case, you are basically challenging him to engage the community again. I doubt that he will. I did a pretty thorough inspection for photoshopping and it would have to have been a job well done to pull off that pic. I don't think someone would waste their time hoaxing that.
The RDF is out there... that provides enough corroboration in my opinion.
Who cares about EI22
Who give a crap, were getting ICS http://www.phonearena.com/news/The-state-of-Android-4.0-Ice-Cream-Sandwich-updates_id23418 To bad by the time its realesed prolly end of 2013 we'll be sitting pretty with Galaxy Nexus II WOOT!

While epic is a Galaxy S phone, it is not in the 9xxx class. Because our phone has the keyboard and CDMA it probably will be another super setback if ever.

I did not believe it but now I am labeled as being a troll. I rather be a troll than a lemming. When I play B.S. I usually win 90% of the time. This skill is not appreciated at XDA they prefer lemmings to trolls anyday.

Ok, back on topic... which was to call repair centers to see what they say. I called the one here and they said they don't have EI22 to load on it. He DID say that they are expecting it and that it should be out very soon. He followed that up though with the reality that Gingerbread was supposed to be out "very soon" quite some time ago.
Why are we still talking about this?

Stupid ass Sprint and their stupid ass playbook?

As you can see by the title I am getting more and more disgruntled by the day.
I assume the playbook made no mention of GB this f'ing week?
.....I'm not sure how I am supposed to respond to this. There is no question. Or any way to know whether or not Sprint will drop GB. Hmmm

If it is going to drop isn't it mentioned in the PB?
Therefore the question is - Was it in the PB tonight?

If it was, your title is going to look more retarded than it does already, and its already full fledged.

Speaking of retarded, look who it is. Pot, Kettle, Black.
Anyway - I qualified my title in the first line of my post. I am disgruntled and I am tired of the same old **** from Sprint/Samsung. No communication, late patches... Tired and disgruntled beyond belief. Hence the title.

Thanks for being real. I feel the same way bro. I feel your pain. But I am not surprised. Maybe some of the guys can ask Lonny Claus for his version of gingerbread. I am on the naughty list so I won't be getting gingerbread but others who are on the nice list can or maybe we can wait for the Lonny Bunny but our best chance is to ask the Great Lonny next Halloween for gingerbread by that time we will have an official gingerbread while everybody else will be on Jellybean.

Thanks Steve. I didn't know that was the case. I thought several users here had access to it.
I am so disgusted with SamSprint it is disgusting. The worst part yet is that I feel that I have no options. I like Samsung technology (specifically the large AMOLED screen in combination with the physical QWERTY), but with attitude that Samsung and Sprint have in releasing software updates (the attitude of I got your money already), it is REALLY discouraging. I wish we had other options because I would GTFO of this phone QUICK and never buy another Samsung phone again.
ALSO, all of this in combination with Samsung and Sprint's complete lack of communication on the matter. No status updates, confirmations, NOTHING. SOOOOOOOOOO tired of this business model, and nothing on the horizon that looks better.
The Galaxy S is an awesome phone no matter which variant you have. Yes we don't get the up dates as quick as we should, I put it on the carriers(refer to the I9000 section on samfirmware and you'll see what I mean). If they'd let some members of xda do their updates they'd be a lot stablier and out faster.

It is pretty clear from all of the posts that I have read, that getting GB from his phone is nothing short of a lost cause.
That said, we shouldn't need to do this kind of reverse engineering crap to get the software off his phone to get it to the people that want it.

Care to take your childish, complaining somewhere else? Try any android blog, or the sprint forums. This thread, and all of these supportive attitudes are asinine.

I am sorry that you think it is ok for companies (Sprint/Samsung) to treat THEIR CUSTOMERS this way. You know, the same customers who pay the salaries of the employees of their respective companies???
I am also sorry that you don't find this ridiculous delay, and this non-communication as acceptable, and as something that doesn't warrant complaining.
Instead, you chose to complain about my post. Good use of your time. It is YOUR passive attitude which is what allows these exact delays to occur. GOOD JOB!
BACK ON TOPIC:
I guess it wasn't in the playbook this week?
Dude, for real? Grow up. We've gone this long without official GB, it's not like the phone is unusable without it.

And that makes it ok!!!!
I simply don't understand how so many people think it is OK for a consumer to be treated this way by the company they are supporting. This is NOT OK. Instead of being passive about the entire situation, why not be more vocal???
Funny thing is, if you pacifists would actually read what I post, you would see that I am not even necessarily asking for GB tomorrow. I would be thrilled just to get some communication from these companies. Stop keeping the PAYING CUSTOMERS in the dark. Let us know what is going on.
If more people spoke up, maybe these companies would change their tune a little, but nooooooooooo, people are ok with not getting updates in a timely fashion, with no communication from the companies that will ultimately provide said update.
Unless GB is gonna make my phone physically do my job for me I don't see it as that big of a deal. The devs have made this phone kick ass but in essence its just a phone that's fun to mod. I just don't get all the anger. Besides that I'm running eh17 with one of the new kernels from source and it is running great. (Although it still doesn't do my job for me)

Your complaing in a development fourm isn't going to do anything for you if your upset that sprint/samsung does not give you timely updates to your phone. Try complaining in the sprint/samsung fourms, it might help your cause a litttle more.

I have personally written to both companies (actual paper and stamp). I am just one person. If more and more people did it (even just demanded communication), things would change.

I had to lol at the job still not being done for you. Now there's a real challenge for the devs.

Spoke up to WHO? XDA Developers forum?
And no one is keeping anyone in the dark. We weren't guaranteed ANYTHING. We have been getting leaks (read: unofficial builds), and that's it. Nothing has been announced. We'll get it when we get it. Were we even TOLD we were getting Gingerbread by both Sprint and Samsung? I don't think so. We are all speculating release dates, 2.3.x builds, playbook leaks, etc.
