[Q] Better Contacts app - Milestone 2 General

Greetings!
Is there a better Contacts replacement for the M2 and other Blurred phones? I've tried GO Contacts, but it just made me miss the stock Contacts app more...
I'm trying to get used to Blur's Contacts, but the name mismatching when linking contacts from different sources (Twitter, FB, Google etc) is extremely annoying.
Does anyone have any suggestions, apart from GO Contacts?
Thanks!

Found one already? I used Dialer One on my old phone and think about using it on the MS2 as well, you might give that one a try. But that mainly affects the dialer, and not the contacts app. I was not sure which part you referred to...

You could try Contapps.
BTW i'm using Go Contacts ATM.

I use TouchPal Dialer here on my other phone.

App for Merging Contacts

Hi,
There is one thing that driving me nuts. Lets say I have a friend, whose names is John. In google, I have saved his email ID with name j.smith .. .. then his another email ID with johns .. .. and then finally his cell number with name john ..
After, I linked up all accounts in my HTC Desire People. I can see these three accounts in one single contact. Fare enough and perfect. But is there anyway, I can merge these three accounts into 1 so that it is synced to my Google Account and to my HTC Contacts?
Not sure if I understand correctly what you want to do but its something I've struggled with as well. There was a perfect app for this on iPhone/iOS but I have yet to find anything that comes even close on Android. Try Contacts Analyzer available on Market but it's dismal. Doesn't allow you a preview of the changes you're about to make before you commit them!
Didn't help that .. :s
Gmail Contacts
Your best bet is to just do it in Gmail from your computer, then let the phone sync. It's easy and you will have them all in the same format, and you can add pictures for caller ID, etc.
You're in trouble if you have 1,000 contacts like I used to...the idea I think is to use an app that auto-works and gets the job done as a batch without you having to edit every single contact...then you can sync to Facebook and pull in some photos IDs...
Hi,
Anybody knows of an app that merges / joins contacts?
HTC Sense has this function if you know what I mean, sometimes a chain-link icons shows up in the notification area.
I´d like to have an app that does this on a batch basis so that I can chose to do so for all my contacts instead of merging / joining one by one.
I know I can do this one by one. Go contacts Ex gives this function without doing it for everyone at one batch job. You have to acceppt one by one...
I am using , Google, ActiveSync, Facebook, Whatsapp etc. contacts
Ideas?

This. Plus there is an option on Gmail to merge duplicates so you can at least have google do most of the sorting and merging for you. And if possible, don't let any HTC app mess with my Google contacts.

I think that's the most important idea about merging. My opinion's that any given app could mess things up and leave you with a lot of different linked contacts. Personally I prefer to edit all my contacts at my Gmail account so that I don't have to merge them again everytime I flash another rom for example.
If you're willing to take the time and patience for it it'll pay off to manually manage your contacts at Gmail.

+1
I've been searching that function for long time since I moved from the stock sense rom to others, and still no app is giving me this. I even tried a lot of different contact manager but no one works really well.
About G contacts: I really care to keep the list "clean" and every contact linked with whatsapp, email, facebook etc, but sometimes it just lose the info, even if I've just merged that contact with the app I'm currently using (I'm running MildWild) and rsynced the G account.
Try Go Contacts Ex (free), it has various functions on merging contacts (by number, email etc.)
Thanks, this works nearly perfect.
Mine im using contapps free from market, try it if you want too! ̄ω ̄

Get the official facebook app, go to settings and choose the type of contacting syncing you prefer. It's better integrated than Sense's lousy way of inserting and syncing crap XML into your Google contacts. Plus now you can use the FB app (or any app that supports contact syncing like twitter) and tap on a users profile photo and get that nifty contact info popup.
AWESOME! That work perfectly. Here's my other issue. Dialing SUCKS in native android. I can't start typing someone's name and have it pull them. Is there a good app for that?

There's a app called dialer one, I think it does that. I don't use it though, I either just type a name through the Google search widget or use voice command.
YOU ROCK. Thank you so much.
This was very helpful. Gratitude points++;
ok, how do I make Dialer One my default dialer app? I'm so newb

No in Go contact it's a merge option.
Me too I search an app with the link between contact. If you find one tell me.
A bit complicated but to link contacts, open a contact -> menu - edit contact -> menu -> join contact.
To make your contact photo show, just make sure you are in your address book with the same number as your phone. If you are in your address book and you're still not showing up, check your number is provided by your SIM by going to Settings -> About phone -> Status. The "My Phone Number" should be populated with your number. If not, get an app off the market to edit your SIM. I used this one: http://www.appbrain.com/app/my-phone-number/org.lytsing.myphonenumber
Not sure if this is relevant to what you want to know, but there is a free app called SyncMyPix which forces all of your contacts to be represented by their facebook profile pictures. I found it useful on AOSP roms which dont seem to sync these pictures well
I'd try dialer one...gives you a link to you contacts.

Like davidbis mentioned use join contact feature it works completely the same like it was working with stock HTC rom. I've been confused with that as well, but worked fine.

[Q] Android to WP7

Hi,
I have a HD2 running gauner's Desire HD ROM (magldr), and I want to try and windows 7 ROM but i cannot find any way to transfer my texts and contacts over.
Anyone find any ways to do this ?
Cheers
If they are Google contacts then that's easy and happens automatically when you sign into your Google account.
I am however in the same boat of trying to migrate my call history and text messages.

Hey, yeah i've got the contacts via google which is working great, now just for the messages, not so bothered about call history.
Just one other thing, i've synced with facebook, but I want to remove all my facebook-only contact from the people contact book, any way to do this?
Cheers

I ran into this same thing and I don't think you can avoid it other than NOT signing in to Facebook in the contacts section. there is a Facebook app in the Market if all you want is to be able to check Facebook on your phone.

In the settings, there is the people application settings menu. It will sync only existing Facebook contacts.

[Q] facebook contacts and phonebook problems

I used to have a HTC desire and it had the ability of taking my Facebook contacts and putting them in my phone book. It wasn't just syncing my contacts that are on my Facebook and phonebook but also bringing in contacts from Facebook that I didn't have in my phone book. Also it was able to filter out the Facebook contacts and only displayed the ones with phone numbers.
Is anyway that the nexus 4 can do it?
Also how do I export my contacts to my sim card? I only can export to store which is useless.
A side note, how do I calibrate the keyboard on the nexus 4? Its quite awkward typing this all out....
Wondering about this one myself.
Time to do some Googling
