[Q] HELP me in Installing [ROM] Kang-o-rama 1.2 FINAL - Nexus One General

Hi,
I really love your ROM, But unfortunately i am unable to install completely in my Google Nexus One mobile. I followed all your steps from
Steps 1 to 3 i ahev done in PC.
1.Downloading Kang-o-rama Zip file
2. Copying Kang-o-rama to root Nexus One phone's SD Card
3. Seted up Advanced Installer by creating the directories
<sdcard>\android\kangorama\
and in kangorama directory, I created a txt file with name install.cfg with apps2ext and bootanimation flags only.
I followed Steps 4 to 7 after inserting the SDcard in mobile.
4. Rebooted into Recovery
5. Did a Nandroid backup
6. Wiped Data, Cache and Dalvik-Cache
7. Installed the Kang-o-rama zip file from your SD Card
In Step 7 i am facing the problem, when i started installing, i got System Installation and kernel installation completed. after that i got "Application installing" and after 70% in progress... there is no further progress..
At this point the Mobile is static for more than 4 hours. Can you please help me out in successfull installation..Thanks in Advance
regards
Manickam

You don't have to use the advanced install. Just put the ROM on to your root of your SD and flash in recovery after full wipe.

just a few ideas...did you partition your sd card first? did you check the m5dsum of the file you downloaded?
i would also recommend posting this in the kangorama thread.

you can also look in /tmp/recovery.log to see where it got up to or if there were any errors.
if it got to the step "installing applications" or something similar then it may have completed but had trouble unmounting the sd-ext partition and froze.
if this is the case you can try rebooting and see if it has worked or try re-partitioniong using clockworkmod or any other recovery..

Hi,
I didn't see this tread (lucky actually that I ever saw it).
Since new users can't post in /dev even with replies you can PM me if you have these problems.
I suspect you're using ClockworkMod recovery? If so, try installing Amon_RA recovery, it has less problems:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611829
If this doesn't help or you're still struggling feel free to send me a PM.

No. So far i didt Partitioned my SD card. Whether i Need to partition?
Ya. I am using ClockworkMod recovery. So what i should do now to make the MOD work properly..

Currently I am having ClockworkMod recovery 3.0.0.5. Whether I have to change my recovery?
I have also tried by partitioning the SD-EXT to 512MB and swap to 64mb. Still I am facing the problem in same point of application installation.
Can any one guide me to resolve this issue.

Was this problem solved, if so how?
Im having the exact same problem. Tried with a noapps Advanced Installer, but no luck.
Edit: Turns out, going to Amon_RA did solve the problem.

[Q][11Jan] Possibly silly question about Clockwork recovery..

Hi guys,
Ive been reading about Clockwork recovery (watched the videos etc.) but still have a question.
I am using this rom on my HD2: NexusHD2-Froyo V1.9b NAND
I have configured my phone with all my personal settings, app, etc. and I want to install clockwork recovery so that I can install Apps2SD (using the .zip installation file). My 8GB SDcard is already partitioned with 1GB ext4 partition following the 7GB fat32 partition.
The question is can I install clockwork recovery without having to flash a new rom afterwards thus loosing all my current configuration? Or installing clockwork (copy files to SD root, then flash etc) does not affect current installed NAND rom?
Sorry if I was supposed to get this info through the various threads - I just could not find a clear answer.
Regards,
F

[Q] How to Access a NAND filesystem without boot?

Hi guys,
I have a problem with my HD2. I have MAGLAR 1.13 and NAND rom from gauner "[23 JAN] gauner1986's Z-FI 0.1 (Desire Z based) [KERNEL = my own ]". + rafpigna 1.70OC kernel.
Everything works great but GP FIx was kinda slow. So I tryed to follow this trhead http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=900631&page=14 and I copied the sensors.bravo.so gps.bravo.so to /system/lib/hw/. I didn't replaced nothing because these files were not there. Also changed permissions from 644 to 777 on /system/lib/libgps.so. And rebooted... (this is the ref http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=490930&d=1295171058)
Now after load the maglar and kernel, when it shows the "HTC Quietly brilliant" phone just won't leave this stage.. and won't boot... just cycles on this stage.
I need to access filesystem to remove those files from it. How can I do it without having the phone booted?
Tks,
pmjcr
Can I do it from AD Recovery?
I can see that with MAGLDR 1.13 I have a AD Recovery mode. And if I put a zip on root of sdcard I can make ate least something... What do I have to put on the zip file in order to delete these files?...
Also see that in these zips there is a META-INF\com\google\android\update-script
In this script usually I has these commands
ui_print("Formatting System..."); to print something to the screen
format("MTD", "system"); I believe this is for formating partition
mount("MTD", "boot", "/boot") This should be to mount....
What I need is a "rm" command/syntax to remove sensors.bravo.so gps.bravo.so from /system/lib/hw
someone??...
I think I've found...
delete DATA:etc/hosts--------------delete("/data/etc/hosts");
on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936175
will try... fingers crossed
Your new sensors file may be causing the issue.
Since it appears you have Clockwork recovery, do a NAND backup then a file system format, then re-flash your ROM.
You can at least then recover the data area should this fix the issue.
I am not having any luck... this update.zip from root of SD is only for Clockworkmod and I don't have it... only magldr... As in menu i've seen "AD Recovery" I though it would work.. but no...
What is the AD Recovery for on MAGLDR and how can I use it? When I select it I will have "no boot sources".
Ok... I'm a little tired of searching... but I've realized that I need a way of doing an incremental update via DFT method. Anyone knows how?...
I really don't want to loose my s4ettings from my phone... everything was working so great... just the GPS was slow on fix... buááááááá
If you are going to continue to ask several questions in this thread between replies I suggest you edit one post over and over. It is difficult to help when you're having to quote many different posts.
If you don't have Clockwork recovery installed then you have a problem - sort of. You won't have AD Recovery, and installing it will wipe your current ROM.
My suggestion is you download CWR 1.12 which is the SD Card method, put the zipped files in the ROOT of your SDCARD and use the SD AD or SD Android boot option in MAGLDR. This should give you the option to backup your ROM and flash a new .zip ROM.

Thanks for your adviceI was already on that stage trying a SD built. I've loaded and android from SD but getting an image required some more additional steps. I ended by installing a new built (the DL Desire one) that has a recovery method.
Thanks for your help.
Rgds,
I am curious about the topic in the title as well. I have access to a Mac and PC. Some sort of "USB" mode that allows access to the internal memory and not just the memory card.

[Q] Restoring a CWM v5 backup on HD2

Hi,
I without much thinking and reading, searched the keyword "backup" on the play store, installed the first application I found (nandroid) and made a backup of my OS and wiped everything afterwards because I had to get my display replaced after the digitizer started not responding.
But after I got my phone back I realized that I can only flash CWM 3x on HD2 while the backup that nandroid created was for cwm5.
So, I have a backup made for cwm5. Any suggestions on how can I restore this on a hd2?
thanks in advance
Did you try to simply restore the backup?

If you can flash v3 you can flash v5 the same way.

Well, that's what I thought, but I can't. It won't let me. CWM3 keeps giving the file not found error, and I thought the fact that it's cwm3 is must be the reason why. I'm confused now.

I get into the ad recovery section in magldr, cwm opens, I then choose the backup restore section, it checks my sd card and finds the backup I made, no problem up to this point, I choose the backup I want to restore, the process starts, and then I get the file not found errors, but everything's there in the sd card, I checked.
The errors are like this:
system.img not found. Skipping restore of /system.
data.img not found. Skipping restore of /data.
etc. etc.

eventually it skips everything and restores nothing.

OK, no problem. You misunderstood what I said.
Go to AD Recovery and CWM v3 will open, correct?
Do NOT select /BACKUPRESTORE!
Select INSTALL FROM SD CARD
Of course, you need to have a copy of CWM Recovery v5 on your SD Card - if you do not have it or you have an older v5 download this file and place it on your sd card before you start.
After you install that file reboot and you will have CWM Recovery v5.
Does it make more sense now?

Well now have less possible issues. This is good.
The error shows you had a problem extracting the image from the zip. That suggests a bad zip or a bad sd card. Have you tried to download another copy of the zip file?
How big is your recovery partition? To flash that recovery you should have 5 MB, 8 if you might want to try other recovery apps later.
How was your device partitioned? Did you use DAF.EXE? If yes, take a look at the flash.cfg file, the line for recovery. If it has "filesize" (or something like it) instead of a number that partition was created to match last image flashed. The word filesize should read 8 MB or at least 5 mb.
If using the hd2 toolkit there should also be a flash.cfg file someplace.
Check that zip file first, however. I can give you a known good recovery and DAF.EXE but you will have to set the correct partition sizes for what you need.

Can't write to internal EMMC

Hi,
I have a nook that I rooted and put a custom rom on back about a year and a half ago. I flashed the ROM to the internal EMMC and CWM 3.2.0.1 was flashed as recovery. If it makes any difference it was a CM9 ROM
Now here's where I'm at. I can run ROMs off the sd-card but they are not stable at all. I get a whole bunch of force closes and such.
When I try and flash a new ROM to the internal EMMC it says it completes, but nothing changes. It is still the previous ROM. When I try and format the /data and /system partitions with the EMMC recovery, it doesn't complete. It says there is an error. When I format with TWRP off an sd card, it says it completes but once again, the rom is not wiped.
I've tried the 8 reboot error method, and it never gets to the stock recovery screen. It keeps booting to the EMMC ROM.
I've tried repartioning the EMMC with leapinlar's zip files. It says it successfully completes, but once again nothing changes.
Ideally I'd like to get the emmc back to stock and try and run a rom off the sdcard.
I've read the threads that I thought were applicable to my issues, but nothing seemed to work. I'm completely out of ideas. Anyone have similar issues or can provide some guidance?
Thanks.
The problem you are having running a ROM from SD is the brand and speed of SD you are using. It needs to be SanDisk class 4.
The reason the 8 failed boot does not work is you replaced the stock recovery with CWM. It needs the stock recovery to be able to complete. See my NC tips thread linked in my signature and read item A12. Assuming you can get it to flash, I have a stock recovery zip there.
I don't understand why the ROMs are not flashing. You say it gives errors when you try to wipe with CWM. What do the errors say? You used the internal CWM and TWRP on SD, but none worked. Try my bootable CWM SD to see if that helps.
I don't understand why my partition zips did not work. I know the newest TWRP will not flash them without giving an error 2 message. Try my bootable CWM SD.
Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on Hybrid SD
Thanks for the advice...
I've been using a Patriot class 10 micro sd to run the roms/attempt to flash new roms. Its worked fine before, but I'll try and pickup another one from someplace.
When I try and format /system and /data from the emmc CWM it says "Error formatting /system" or "error formatting /data" after working away for about 5 minutes
Here's what i did:
Created CWM 6.0.1.2 Bootable SD
- Flashed NookColor-emmc-stockrecovery.zip
- Message said successfull.
- tried to restart and old CWM recovery 3.2.0.1 was still installed
Booted into CWM 6.0.1.2 Bootable SD Recovery
- mounted /system and /data
- attempted to format
- Message "Done." for both
- attempted to flash stock 1.4.3 that you have modified for CWM
- install from sdcard complete
- reboot
- Old CynanogenMod bootscreen and old rom still installed.
Using same CWM 6.0.1.2 Bootable Sd Recovery
-flashed NookColor-emmc-repair-partitions-1-4-5-6-7-8.zip and NookColor-emmc-format-partitions-5-6-7.zip
-said success
-attempted to flash stock 1.4.3
- nothing changed. Old rom still installed
One more thing I noticed:
Everytime I login to the currently flashed rom, any changes I make are never saved. For example, if i install an apk or uninstall an app, the next time i can successfully boot into the emmc ROM, those changes are reversed to the previous version. Could it be that the current rom is being stored somewhere and being reflashed when it tries to bootup?
I hate to say this, but it sounds like your internal embedded card has become read only. I have had this happen to SDs but not to emmc. The apps act like they are writing and if you leave the folder and come back, they are not there. It is like they are writing to a ramdisk instead of your SD. You might try booting to a ROM on SD and see if you can write to any of the internal partitions like /cache or /rom and see if they stick. If not, you may only be able to run off SD and maybe not even then. You might have to change your dalvik cache setting on SD so it uses /data instead of /cache.

I tried copying a file to the emmc partition from twrp and it didn't persist after reboot... so it looks like the emmc is set to read only. I don't supposed I can change that using adb and/or software solutions right? It's a hardware issue?
Any guidance on how to change davlik cache to use /data instead of /cache? I'll be happy to get any sort of stable rom running off any SD card.
I was hoping to repurpose the nook as in in car tablet to tether a data connection to my phone and play music and such.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate you taking the time.

I don't know of anything that can revive it. I never could revive my SD that that happened to.
To make your ROM on SD use /data for all of the dalvik cache, create a file in /data named local.prop. In that file put this line:
dalvik.vm.dexopt-data-only=1
Next time it boots the system file portion of dalvik cache will be on /data along with the installed app portion.
Sent from my stock Nook HD+ using XDA Premium
I now have a stable version of CM 7.2 running off the SD card. I put the davlik cache on the data partition and everything seems to be running pretty smooth.
I'll keep messing around seeing if there is anything to revive the internal emmc, but at least I can use the nook off the SD card again.
Thanks for helping me troubleshoot and figure this out. Cheers.

I have some further questions though:
1. which 'recovery' do you mean and where will I find Titanium backup and tytung tool?
2. I have downloaded the paragon software to copy the sd card contents which I will try to do now. However, what are the 'normal' methods used to resize as I mentioned in my previous post that the ext4 partition seems fixed when using the mini tool partition software?
TIA,
Geoff.

Robbie,
I have put the sd card into the slot on my computer (which is a year old HP laptop) and also tried in a USB port but the Paragon software is not recognising the card at all, with only the c drive being shown. However, I am able to see the contents of the fat32 partition of the SD card through explorer as normal. Am I doing something wrong??

Which recovery did you use to install the rom? does it have facility to backup ext partitions? I know macs18max edited SDrecovery can do this from the first post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/hd2-android/nand-dev/nov-17-2015-kernel-3-0-101-t3251438 others can too.
titanium backup can be found in play store, free and paid versions. haven't used it myself for a while and only used free one. people on this forum swear by it though.
tytung's NativeSD backup might have to be searched for, I'm afraid.
Don't know why your ext partition is not showing up. What rom(s) are you using?
magldr or clk?
Sounds like you will have to use a backup method from the phone as opposed to pc, to store the contents on your FAT partition, then move/copy them to pc.
does this make sense?

Thanks again Robbie. Tis whole thing gets wierder as follows:
I'm using Nexus HD2 Jellybean-CM10_V1.3a as the rom. In the recovery directory of the SD card there's the Jellybean rom as mentioned, clrcad (dated 8/7/2010, haret, initrd.zip, startup text document & zImage (dated 5/9/2012).
There's also a NativeSD directory with the same files as the recovery directory.
Running Haret from the recovery directory takes me to 4EXT Recovery v2.2.7 RC5.
It also shows: E: can't find misc
E: failed to find "cache" partition to mount at "/cache".
In the info section it lists the sd-ext partition ext4 1012MiB free 135.5mb, sdcard fat32 14175 MiB free 8.0gb.
Attempt to backup fails as can't find cache partition, boot, recovery logs on E:
I loaded the Paragon software on my newer laptop but no ext partition was found. I then loaded the Paragon software on an older laptop and hey presto the partition was there. I tried to back this up on the pc but had repeated problems with files not being read. Then suddenly the ext partition disappeared on the pc but phone booted into Android-phew!.
I tried on the 1st pc and suddenly it recognised the ext partition. I tried backing up the partition but again had read problems. The fat32 partition backed up without 1 error.
So where do I go now? I don't want to loose the data in the ext partition but don't seem to be able to backup. Any suggestions welcome.

perhaps paragon wasn't the best choice for backing up. Try the recovery linked-to above, put it on your sdcard and run haret from its folder (you might have to change the folder name so that it is not the same as your other recovery folder). then select backup, then scroll down to sdext, tick it and swipe, it should copy to your FAT, and it seems you have plenty of space there. I haven't tried this backup method, which is why I said use 2 methods to backup. the more the merrier.
There are free sms, phone and app backup applications such as superbackup in playstore.
There was also a way to copy the whole sdcard as an image, partitions included, I will have a look for it.

There are free sms, phone and app backup applications such as superbackup in playstore.
There was also a way to copy the whole sdcard as an image, partitions included, I will have a look for it.

Robbie thanks again.
I downloaded the recovery folder from your link but there's only 2 files in it namely initrd.gz and zImage, there's no haret. I have copied the haret, clrcad & startup text files files from the old recovery directory but it just hangs on running haret.
Geoff.
Sorry Geoff, I am not giving you very good advice. That recovery has a 3.0 kernel in it, and won't boot from haret. Am working ATM, will reply later.

Hi again Robbie,
I have good news and bad!!
I managed to eventually get the Paragon software to recognise the ext4 partition on my new laptop. What's odd is that the ext4 partition is listed under the name of the c drive. I then unmount and remount the ext4 with a new drive letter and I can then read/write. So having managed to mount, I was able to copy off all the files from the FAT32 & ext4 partitions to my hard disk. That's the end of the good bit.
As its 3 years since I did the last Jellybean install, I'd forgotten what to do and kept seeing posts about magldr and custom radio roms. I tried to boot into magldr on the phone while doing the sd card backups but it wouldn't go into it. I had assumed I must have installed it when I did the original SD rom install and I then wrongly assumed I needed to reinstall the HSPL4 and custom radio roms to get it on again. The former was ok but the latter caused the phone to hang on reboot at the HTC logo. At this point I went to the bootloader screen but after having the 4 colour screen I then got the white screen with blue writing for updating the rom from an sd card (there must have been an unzipped rom on the card). I mistakenly hit the install rom button and this erased all the phone's data before I'd had chance to use SD Backup, a programme I hadn't bothered using since long before I converted to Android.
I then looked back in my old bookmarks and came across a facebook guide to the Native SD installation which didn't mention magldr at all and it was at this point that I realised I'd not previously loaded it on the phone, although I did eventually manage to get it on after downgrading the HSPL to 2.08 and successfully flashing the custom radio only to be permanently booting into magldr-so I again reflashed the stock rom to get rid of it! What a waste of time!!
Having backed up the sd card partitions, I erased the partitions and made a new ext4 of 3gb and copied back the files to both partitions. I tried to boot the haret in the native SD folder but the phone hung at the HTC logo and then rebooted itself back into windows. I tried installing the jelly bean rom as an update using ext4 recovery but no joy. I tried wiping the ext4 partition and reformatting with EXT4 recovery then installing the rom as a new install which then booted into Android ok after which I overwrote the ext4 files with the previously saved ones. Now I get a boot into the CyanogenMod screen but no further even after waiting 30 mins. I also tried using NAtiveSD onetouch recovery to try and make a backcup of the old system and then restore over the new install (but not the boot files) but again I just get the hung CyanogenMod screen.
So do you have any idea of how I might get a successful boot with my old data? Perhaps I'm missing something else in the overwrite/restore process but I can't see what.
Any further help would be grateful-perhaps you have forum contact who might be able to help as well.
TIA,
Geoff.:crying:
