Different Android Markets - Xoom General

Question:
Why do I see apps like SiriusXM and Sonos in the Market from my phone, but not the Market from my XOOM. I must be missing something really basic. Is there a process to move apps from an android phone device to an android Tablet device.
Please educate me!

It has to do with the devices Finger Print. Certain apps are designed for specific phones/devices and the developers can limit what devices can get it.

Gotta love it. Thx!

Why phone designed apps are awesome for Xoom

THE ADS ARE SOOO SMALL!!! XD
I love it's especially on the xda app, its in the bottom left hand corner, and is barely noticable.
Someone should start a thread on good apps that work on the Xoom, or start it here, I personally would but I'm new to android, which is why I would like to know some good apps. I mostly operate off 3g connection, which is why I don't want to try the download and try and delete method.
3 gigs 35 dollar $-$ wtf.
Ill start with what I have downloaded that's not a tablet app and works fine.
-Xda (obviously)
-Astro file manager
-skype (I read somewhere that they were going to make a tablet specific version for a fee)
-Dr Webb for android
That's all really.
Two that I dl'd that didn't work were vevo and pocketcloud
Vevo didn't play videos at all but I haven't tried on wifi yet.
Pocketcloud worked like it should with massive lag even on wifi, might just be cause its a free app, I dont know, like I mentioned thus is my first android device. And I must say, it wins.
Anyway, please help me find great apps and ill return the favor.
One awesome one for tablets is PewPew

Lol, I hadn't noticed the ad until you mentioned it. Just loaded xda on my xoom.

yeah i love that. but im sure they will change it and have ads take up more space.
Pay for the premium XDA app. Support the community and it's only $0.99 . I paid for it and I love the XDA theme and being able to set the app up the way I want it.
My xda app crashes all the time. At first I thought it was my rooted evo, but it does the same thing at the same place on the xoom. Hard to pay for something that keeps fc'ing.

I posted a thread about that too but nothing has changed since... Sad to see that our support is not appreciated!

If a tablet version is made, I will definitely buy the app. There are a lot of features I'd like to take advantage off that's not in the free app. But the free app does freeze a lot, right now I'm not even able to get into it because it's been stuck at the XDA loading screen. I can't seem to get it past that.
And I know they're going to make tablet apps with Huge ads, thats why phone apps are better
Hopefully they do make a tablet app for XDA tho, I'll even pay $2 if it has most the features of the site.

When they take out the unneeded permissions (GPS, phone identity) I will. Till then I use the web browser.
Go to manage applications in settings and reset the cache for the XDA App and it should fix the problem.

How can I protect my Xoom when the kids use it?

My 3 year old loves to watch the Dr. Seuss books on my tablet, but she can access the whole system. Is there any way that I can lock it down so that she is only able to interact with the current running app but nothing else? I asked the book Dev (Oceanhouse) but they don't have a solution.
Thanks!
Cade

I don't believe so. On the first day of IO a developer was asking how he could set up an Android-based kiosk and disable home and back buttons. Unfortunately there's no such solution. Accomplishing this would probably require a pretty hacked up OS, but maybe there's a market for it
Check out App Protector in the market. I use it to let people explore my Zoom but they do not have access to anything I am concerned with. In my case I have email, settings, markets and file managers all locked down.
Thanks, I'll check it out.

Market

I was just checking the market for an app. When I found it, it displayed this...... this is the first time I've seen in the app makert saying an app is in compatible

Maybe its something new? I like the idea.

Maybe its part of the even newer market updates that just came out? I've never seen that either.

Can you check what version of market you have?
From homescreen: menu-> Manage Applications-> All Applications -> Market
I saw this the other day too, however there were two versions of the app. The free version displayed this message, the paid version did not.
i get that message on alot of apps that i KNOW will work on my phone and it even displayed that on an app i already had installed!! android is ****in up! id like to know howto fix this, its buggin the crap outta me!
p.s. my market version is 3.1.3
Its up to developers to mark which devices are compatible. Some developers only use one phone or a few so can only varify that those devices are compatible. Netflix lists the supported phones. Not all do sadly. I would contact the app developers.

Palm app catalog not working.

So I haven't had an app update in quite a long time. 2 years. I only use it on wifi. But it seems like the app catalog hasn't updated in so long and no new apps are available. Is there a way to fix without reseting the profile or device.?

No need to do anything on your part. webOS is on life support right now. It is highly unlikely you will ever see another update or any new apps. The homebrew community at webOS Nation might be your only source for new apps or patches. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Thanks. It's my brothers phone and he complains that it doesn't have new apps ever.

iOS 7 Control Center

Although most of us aren't iOS fans, I have found this app to be extremely helpful because it has all of the quick toggles I need and is accessible anywhere across the system.

it's been several months since the last post and i can't find another thread with this particular control center as the topic, but for those that use this app or perhaps something similar, is there a way to have it automatically restart itself when it force closes? i'm not sure if moving it to a system app via titanium backup would do the trick as i've never run into a situation where i'd actually want an app to constantly run in the background. considering what this app does though, having it force close due to ram issues and whatnot kind of defeats its purpose of being readily available to use. having to relaunch the app manually isn't very efficient to say the least. anyways, it's a long shot but i'm hoping someone out there has some insight.
