Ya, I've been waiting for his 2nd video. It's one of the more comprehensive reviews of this awesome device.

Thanks for sharing! Finally a decent review on youtube! It helps making the decision to wait it out a little bit longer. I hope he's right on the price part too!

Interesting how he calls it "very intuitive" when there have been people saying its sooo confusing because its not like the Ipad

Outstanding overview, thanks for the link. Except now, of course, I'm even more anxious to get one.

This was the first time I've seen the device with the keyboard attached being used. I can definitively say that I will be buying the dock... If it ever arrives on US soil. With me not having a laptop it should prove useful.

He just posted a new video about the Polaris software.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGSfL6XjcN8

Just watched some of the first video. Shame it's so quiet. I wish google would normalise all the audio on videos uploaded to youtube. Just wanted to comment on a few things he said:
-The @Vibe app is for music and streaming radio, not for games, in the UK. Might be different for other countries.
-It's not lightweight. Lighter than other devices but its still not light.
-You get bad stuttery 1080p mkv's if theyre not encoded properly.
-That green screen camera thing is fixed in the latest firmware.
-The refresh rate of the video recording is bad. So is the fps of any video you record. Hopefully it will get fixed. It's meant to do up to 1080p @30fps.
-The playback and quality of the video streaming via Splashtop is ridiculously good as he says. I was surprised.
-He's also right about needing to have several apps to play various files. Feels odd to switch between them to play different formats but its not a problem.
Nice to see the dock in action. Cant wait to get mine.

Just an offtopic note: normalising wouldn't help in most cases (one high peek in the whole video will make the sound very quiet even normalised). Making sound louder would in most cases require compression and limiting which is not always wanted and can't be done properly by a machine only (if you want to know more - read about loudness war and audio mastering on Wikipedia). Normalising could also be very bad for videos recorded in silence - you would hear every background noise that was recorded very loudly.
Splashtop looks very interesting. It's a shame it's only for Macs and Windows (I would like to use it on Ubuntu).

Great detailed review. Just watched both part 1 and 2 and has reassured me that this is definitely the tablet I want. All of the negatives that I read on Engadget or Techradar can't remember which it was seem to be non existent in the video as they said it lags quite noticeably behind touch which it didn't really show and looks like it's going to be a great tablet with lots of future potential. Can't wait to save up and get one which looks to be at around the time stock will be back in with all the delays lol

Hi, Sorry, I should have adjust the volume of the video before I uploaded it, thanks for pointing that out.
@Vibe is like an entertainment center, it has Books, games, and Musics, at least that's how it is in Taiwan, not sure about other country.
and you are right, the video recording is really slow and hopefully it gets fixed soon.
Thanks for pointing out the firmware update, I've yet to update mine, will do and see if anything else is different.

Htc hd2 Video distorted.

Hi im really hoping to find some help here. just yesterday i came back from a trip to disney world with the family. i took a 5 minute video of the fireworks show and when i look at the video now on my phone it wont show up. i hooked it up to my computer and transfered the video over but when i play it on my computer it will show up but its all distorted with green boxes dissaperaing a reappearing. the only way i can watch the video on my phone is with tcpmp and even then it still shows distorted, the sound is perfect but the video isnt. funny enough i had shot a 2 min video before that one seconds before on my phone and it came out perfect. any ideas as to why this happened. and ideas on how i can get the video i shot to look normal again? maybe repair it? any help would be well appreciated.
just a lil bump.. no help at all?
I have this issue also. It only does this when I do videos longer than 2 or 3 minutes back to back. I would love a solution as I am losing really good material due to it. Like you said, the sound is perfect but the green tint distorts the video. I did notice the phone gets hot while taking the video so may be that has something to do with the issue.
I'm starting to think now this phone is a POS and completely waste of money when it comes to multimedia. I mean let's be honest here name of the phone is HD2 (high definition) yet it can't even play HD video let it be OS related, as we at it let's be real we all know its also limited to 65k colors. Far as video goes by now all know the audio sync issue, along with the original pink aurora BS. I wonder if Evo has this problem.
PS: This is not a rant so all you fanboys take it easy.

Ummm no. I play HD movies all the time. Most of my videos come out fine. This isn't an everyday issue.
Hello guys and gals. This is my first post and sadly it's in regard with a problem. I have the same issue with the recorded movie files. If it's bigger then 5 minutes sometimes it ends up unusable. This only happens after i changed the sd card with a new 8gb one. I wonder ...

Addicus I suggest you look in to this thread: Major flaw in the HTC HD2: 250ms Audio Delay
Even with extended detailed test if you still say you have no audio sync issue in video and time time hickups as it freeze then post what you are doing in that thread. Most of us has to encode the video and use filter to compensate for it.

Just Ordered My Dell Streak... Some Questions...

How is the menu compared to HTC Hero/Desire since I had both?
Is it good for multimedia, as in how does it perform when watching movies, is it bright and clear, is the sound load?
When looking at photos, say a few mb in size, is it fast?
Lastly, is the loudspeaker loud or not very?

I would say it is great for watching multimedia it is bright and clear the best device i have seen for watching movies in the sunshine
The pictures do load fast, now the speaker i think could be a lot better but its OK over all it is great but i do think once 2.2 is on board it will blow you away
Thanks for your reply.
I should be getting the streak tomorrow or the day after, cannot wait!
I already ordered the rebel sim last night and received it today...
I agree t he streak is great fir movies.headphonrs are great, speaker is worst phone yet and I can mis calls as it doesnt penetrate through loud background noise. However the screen great. Has 3 levels of brightness or can be adjusted automatically.
Battery life is great if you don't use it, rubbish if you use widgets. Ive stopped using widgets as I can get a full day even when listening tomusic and watching films.
Dell interface is good but id rather they kept it stock. If they had then I could use the home in portrait.
Right hand capacitive buttons are a pain I keep pressing them. Screen is hyper sensitive.
Keyboard is rubbish, I had an iphone before and it doesn't compare.i got on the swype beta and its much improved so change the keyboard as soon as you can.
Other than that its a great phone the size is perfect!

Poor Video Quality?

So I have defiantly noticed poor video quality I've tried a 720p video h.264 lord of the rings encode quality looks decent but gets so pixilatee all the time no matter what video player I use, also tried normal 480p no lag or pixilation, but quality looks sorta poor. And the grid touch is very noticiable.
Am I the only one? Or are there others seeing this... I love this tablet so much over other android and for the price its awesome. But no ips display messes with me lol.
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I have noticed the quality isn't as good as say my Iphone 3GS, Macbook Pro ( non ips screen).Apparantly it uses an AUO panel which aren't too bad; they're used in some Samsung panels but aren't as good as the one sony/samsung make.
Maybe someone with some technical knowledge here could answer it better.I am just agreeing with you. The a500 is a 6bit panel, bit disappointed in that, I was expecting 8bit.
The screen is the only disappointment I have
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I have to agree with the screen issues. Video looks completely washed out. I tested streaming through my wife's iPad and my Acer. Needless to say, for $450, it's not worth it.
I've done the whole "the screen is not so bad" thing with the gTablet but that was a much cheaper investment. This thing is $50 from the Samsung 10.1, the Toshiba Regaza 10.1 inch, and an iPad 2.
I abhor the Apple iOS but I'm hoping they open things up a bit in June. I think I'll take this Acer back next week and just wait until then all these new June tablets are released. I don't think Acer can release an update to improve the quality of the screen ala Toshiba's Resolution + tech in their tablet.
Word of advice...take micro and SD cards with video on them to the store with you so you can test these things out. Maybe a flash drive too. I spent hours looking at videos and researching to make sure this tablet would be a nice purchase. Even after owning the tablet a full day, I was happy...until I played some video with it. I'm not talking high def content. I tried watching wrestling and some soccer videos on there but the quality saddens me. Why not stick a better screen on and charge me more?
Although I see what you do when I look at mine... the pictures I look at are almost as good as my Epic SuperAMOLED phone and I thought my phone was great... so, if the pictures are great/really good and the video not so much... I think tweaking will be done to deliver better quality... this thing was rushed out and so was honeycomb... I'll give it time because I know it can only get better... besides if all you're doing is video then maybe you just need a dvd player or an archos 70 250gig I heard those screens are nice... good luck.
I wish it was that easy. I blog on my tablet which is why I was leaning towards the Asus. I game on there and that's a mixed bag on here. I do like the cameras and the flash on here.
I'd just like a tablet to do everything well. Perhaps they can fix the video quality. I'm just wondering if we'll ever get that. I've heard from 3 people on this forum that Acer's customer support sucks. They've tried to charge them each time they've called.
Hopefully we'll get some answers soon. I'm trying to hold onto it until after Google's I/O conference next week which could shed some light on any problems Honeycomb may be causing.
Just glad I kept my receipt had for about 1 week and few days but will wait and see, hopefully they will shed some light.
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
The main reason I bought a tablet in the first place was because I'm a producer and I wanted something I could easily tote around as a digital portfolio for pitches -MacBook Pro isn't quite as sexy in a meeting now that the tabs are on the market. The iPad has been extremely popular with commercial agencies, but I wanted something with an HDMI output w/o having to purchase an adapter (an additional $39) and a full size USB port w/o having to purchase a camera "kit" (an additional $29) -yep, I'm cheap like that.
Anyway, imagine how upset I was when I tried to play an mp4 on the A500 and got an error message stating that the video could not be played on "this device".
Here's what I found (search via google -can't post links yet):
"3 Surprising Things About Video On Android Tablets"
And from the Android Developer's site:
"Android Supported Media Formats"
What worked for me:
• Download the latest version of 'Handbrake'
• Go to 'Preferences'>'General' and under 'Output files:' uncheck 'Use iPod /iTunes friendly (.m4v) file extension for MP4'. Close the preferences window.
• Output Settings: Normal (Default) this is the 'Baseline Profile'
• Format: MP4 file this is the container
• Video Codec: H.264 (x264)
• Under 'Quality:', 'Constant quality:' should be selected with an RF Value of 19-20 for SD and 21-22 for HD
• Go to the 'Advanced' tab and under 'Encoding'/'Maximum B-Frames:' select '0' from the dropdown menu
• Leave all other settings as they are (incl. Audio; AAC is fine) for your first attempt
Feel free to play around with the settings as you will, but don't expect a whole lot of freedom.
Hope that helps!

I'd say just take it back now. If things improve you can always buy it again as it's actually in stock.
Here's what I wrote on the whirlpool forums
So anyway, I've been testing out the screen, comparing it with my macbook pro(non ips screen) with the exact same video.I found that my macbook featured better blacks and less pixelation. One thing I noticed is the blacks on the iconia were too bright. So I checked in settings and I had the brightness on auto.
I turned it all the way down ( turned off auto brightness in settings) and tried the videos again, playing both in sync and let me say there was a huge difference now.Blacks appeared much better, and all that pixelation ( which was highlighted more with the brightness on higher) was gone! It is on par with my macbook!
The image is still fairly bright as well, it doesn't look all dark now that the brightness is turned down which is great!.
Give it a ago.

Nexus 4 720p/1080p video samples...

I know the device isn't out just yet, but I was wondering if anyone has seen a sample of Nexus 4 camcorder yet? (Front & Back). I rely heavily on my cameras for work & for other reasons & not to bash the G-Nex, but the camera sensor on this device is a little underwhelming to say the least. I heard the camera hardware was based off of the AT&T 8mp Optimus G, but I'm not sure if that's an actual spitting image of what we can expect from the N4.
Any links or input would be greatly appreciated in advanced. Worst case scenario, 10 days isn't too far away!
Here you have some video samples:

Thanks sooo much for the quick reply with content. The actually image quality is quite an improvement, but my problem lies with the FPS & the audio to a certain extent. I wasn't expecting perfection, so I'm overall happy with what we have here. I'm sure it'll get better between camera mods & software updates. Thanks again.
The mic makes the video so crap, I tried to record video with my GS2 once upon a time and it was far worse than my old iPhone 4 which had such amazing audio quality. I mean I went to Reading last year and the iPhone 4 was super clear, picked up good bass and sounded great but the GS2 just sounded like I was rubbing a plastic bag over the mic and the bass just killed the mic all together.
So if the audio sucks then there is no point to it shooting video tbh. I just have a separate camera though so it doesn't bother me too much though.
I would love it if someone uploaded the original video file from the phone. Youtube seems to always use an aggressive compression on user uploads, I rarely see good 1080p videos on the site, even from pro cameras.
Make sure to go fullscreen when watching the video and turn your youtube video to 720p HD.
Can anyone help ....
I get HEAVY compression artifacts on the video recordings at 1080p on the nexus 4 itself - even when I upload to the PC. The sound and video is compressed sounding too.

A better slow motion experience?

Hi guys
The samsung galaxy note 3's slow motion video is quite bad
I tried both 120fps at 1/4 and 120fps at 1/8.
The output is very low quality comparing to iphone 5s slow motion.
Any feedback is welcome.
Do you know a better slow motion app?
Do you have a recommended settings?
Thanks

was that at 1/8? or 1/4. 120FPS at 1/8 is still gonna give you a pretty choppy 15fps even if you export the video at 30
from what it looks like, the iphone 5 usually goes to 1/4 which would still be smooth at 30
i noticed discrepancies in different note 2 slow mo videos and how they did things.

I don't think it has a problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BLiCKiLFbM
Here's a video from sam pullen at 1/8 and its noticeably more smooth than your sample
This same also looks pretty decent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL1BfkzPQ5I
however, like i mentioned above, this would one would look better if he shot at 1/4 instead of 1/8 simply because then you're voluntarily reducing it to 15 FPS.
Additionally, looking at iphone5 slomo videos, it's pretty apparent that their movie editor to set the slomo sections does make use of interpolation. Thus, if you really wanted to use the slomo for anything beyond just a for fun thing, and you're editing a video of a trip or something with slow mo sections, just take that 1/4 footage, run it through twixtor and bam, you can even do stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0Kb1hDdseY
Basically. don't shoot at 1/8 unless you plan to interpolate it.
Apple's slowmo is post processed, so feel free to compare the two after you post process your own
granted, its more convenient the other way, i THINK the HTC gallery might handle that. considering the camera got ported a few months ago, it's possible the gallery will get ported to make help make slowmo clips on the fly.

Well if you find your example videos decent then we are not on the same page.
I found those quiet ****ty. Event the one with seagulls, the original poster hated his own video.
About iphone5's slow mo, I don't care what iPhone software does. The outcome is 10 times better than Note3 unfortunately. And I find dumb to say ''use 1/4'' when there is a 1/8 option.
It reminded me of people who pretend to be happy about their phone's battery life by saying ''Don't enable wifi and 3g. Reduce the brightness and don't sync your email''

Lol ok there buddy, no need to get pissy. Just offering and explanation and solution to your so called "problem"
At the end of the day, 1/8 will come out to 15 FPS in a 30 FPS video. Have you ever played a game at 15 FPS? Its bad. Why would a 15 FPS video magically be better. No matter what, that fact is not going to change. If a few at 1/8 is smooth at 30 FPS, then there is additional interpolation going on. If you actually have the pride to get something done yourself, figure it out, it's not hard. If you want to sit there and continue to whine in the same tone you just did, then you're more than welcome to return your note and get yourself an iPhone, noone will really care.
Quite franky, if I were to speak like you, "i don't care" if you cant get your slomo to look nice, because I know I will be able to. It's the same thing with goPro slow motion video. Have you seen what the RAW looks like? not pretty. Why do those videos look so good? interpolation and post processing. If there was an App on android that handled that, then you can run off and buy it and stop whining. But until then, you will either have to make do....or abandon it.
Just to summarize things again for you in case you actually want to put some work into it rather than complain.
1) If you want to go to 1/8, you'll need to interpolate, period, that's just how it works, learn some video basics if you need to
2) The easiest way for you to do that with the best quality is using sony vegas + twixtor
3) If you want to go deeper into it, I use premiere/after effects + twixtor.
Doing 2000 FPS shots are pretty fun but basic rules of video apply, none of this is magic.
Also seagulls? Have you never seen a duck in your life before?

Don't get pissy dude. I apologize if I sound too aggressive.,
At the end of the day all your suggestions are helpful and I appreciate for that.
I just meant to say that I am not happy with the outcome of the slow mo when comparing it with iPhone 5's slow mo.
But I respect the fact that you're happy and you like it. That's it.
Thanks again.
I look forward to a potential update from Samsung

No worries, I appreciate the change in tone.
I know what you mean, and I feel the same way (on the fly interpolation would be awesome), but if HTC can do it, then i'm sure it's only a matter of time before it gets ported or somebody else writes one on the play store.
As for vegas and twixtor, i'm not allowed to post torrent links or anything like that but both are very popular and should only take 30 minutes to download and you'll be able to do a lot more cool stuff with it anyways.
I was also bitterly disappointed in the slow motion capture on my note 3
Its not that the capture or frame-rate is bad its the overall quality
recording in a 720p resolution don't mean S*%T if the bit-rate is S*%T
Every video ive tried is very distorted and pixelated should never be possible in a 720p hd clip
Samsung needs to better optimise the capture and encoding
did you take off the plastic on the lens?
hehe jk..

lol
it looks ok i suppose on phone but when you attempt to watch on tv omg it looks like it was taken with a Nokia 3210 and they didnt even have cameras
While it is a shame the videos are not a tad clearer, seeing as how my htc one x's slow motion was choppy as hell when i had one, im happy enough with it, i'll only be using it for stupid things anyway, lol...like this...http://youtu.be/UAxXLZDnPrY. (next im planning to film a small air cannistor bunged on a bonfire and the resulting explosion!)
and here it is. http://youtu.be/N4ff9DsoU28

Well.... (DON'T FIGHT!)
Stop Fighting, Guys!
iPhone and Note are both 1280x720@120fps but there's another huge problem:

And well, another one but not equal to this thread

Thanks

I know what:
See this
Slow motion is a gimmick. It's just a normal video slowed down, there is no 120fps capture going on.
