Looking for newbie's tutorial of installing new roms - G1 General

Hi.
Im kinda newbie in all this stuff.
I just want to Install Android 2.1 on my HTC Dream / T-Mobile G1.
But im very very noob in all.
Is there any tutorial with some infos about that?
like...
1. download "any name of program", connect usb to ur phone, install "any name of spl" and so on... ?
i just want this kind of information.
Help me please ;]
p.s. im not sure if im posting in right forums, if not - please move.

Hmmm...I haven't seen anything that simple, and there is risk of bricking your phone. Try having a careful read of some of the threads in the developer section. Also, Cyanogenmod has a few installation guides.

Oh i forgot to add...
i was doing that stuff with help of my friend about 2yrs ago.
I already got HaykuroSPL (i think its one of dangerspl's)
but need more advices, what best rom to install and other stuff.

sorry for my bad english.
if u do really want eclair (2.1) that bad, u culd search for thread in here named "the rom bible".
There are so many choices in that thread.
For eclair, u culd use SuperE by ben.
Just IMO, i'd prefer froyo rather than eclair.
i'd prefer some donut than eclair.
Go grab some donut superD, or HTCClays. Its REALLY THAT FAST!!
Go grab some froyo Biffmod, or superF or maybe if u do wanna taste some new kernel like 2708 terrys + Biffmod rom.
ONLY FOR HTC DREAM LIKE MINE!!
DONT BLAME ME for anything bad happens to ur g1!!
I DONT KNOW, I DONT DO ROGERS, MT3G or anything besides my G1
THIS IS THE EXACT STEP IVE DONE.
IM A NOOB. I BOUGHT a used g1 at ebay 2-3 weeks ago.
AND IVE DONE FLASHING from stock rom 1.6 dmd64 damn it so hard those days to get rooted --> 1.5 stock --> 1.6 donut ADP1 --> 1.0 stock --> CM6 froyo --> biffmod leaving on jet plain --> Super E by ben --> super D by ben--> SUPER F by ben --> back to SUPER D --> HTCClays SUPER FAST Donut --> HTCClays CSDI rem v4 --> SUPER D again I LOVE YOU BEN!! --> Biffmod with ezterrys kernel 2708 --> froyo for trout --> froyo lazzlo --> now trying to bake some froyo for myself and some kernels my friends made. --> (future) getting debian
bought again a used g1 from ebay for daily used and doing easy root using androot from unlockr --> stay in SUPER D.
GUIDANCE:
1. Get ROOTED!!
U culd use the AndRoot method. Try google it.
Keyword: "androot" "g1" "unlockr"
Follow the instructions there. Its really made for noob like us.
check if u rooted or not, download terminal emulator from market
type su then enter
VOILA now u get ROOTED
2. Set some ADB, Fastboot, and a Recovery like amon ra's.
-install adb on ur computer.
dowload android sdk r10.zip
unzip it in C:\
try to find SDKManager.exe in that unzipped files. Run it.
then it fetching some updates from google.
after done fetching updates, it will ask you what files do u want to update.
choose "android sdk platform tools revision 3" and "google usb driver package revision 4"
after done updating, close the sdk manager.
grab ur android and choose setting-application-development-mark usb debugging.
connect ur android to usb computer.
when windows found new hardware and installing drivers, try to locate the drivers urself. point it at c:andro_sdk/extras
after done installing drivers,
now go to win start menu and run cmd.exe
from console windows go to c:\andro sdk 10\andro sdk\platformtools
in c:\andro sdk 10\andro sdk\platformtools>
type adb devices ENTER
then ur serial number shuld appear below "list of devices attached"
if the number not appear, it means ure wrong when installing the drivers.
ADB is an android interface for debugging the devices and override the phone control system from pc console.
Example: when rooted and got su(superuser or admin privilege), u can run any command from the device's terminal. like RM remove or something that need SU privilege.
and from adb, u can do the exact same thing but from ur PC, not from devices terminal.
ADB is easy, but it might be complicated if u dont have some basic of command line.
Now letsgo to Installing recovery section
-download ROM Manager from market.
-open it
-choose install alternative recovery (RA 1.7.0) at the bottompage
(ROM manager primarily use clockwordmod recovery, but they give an alternative like amon ra's recovery.)
after installing RA 1.7.0 recovery, from ROM Manager, choose boot into recovery.
phone then reboot and go into recovery mode.
scroll down and search something backup restore thing.
choose BART Backup.
if it says "u must run it in console" or something close like that, it means u dont have enough free space in ur sd card.
free some space by choosing USB MS TOGGLE in recovery menu.
now it mounts ur sdcard to computer and please free some space until BART BACKUP can be done.
after done creating a bart backup, u shuld copy the backup file (BART folder) to ur computer.
now from recovery menu, choose to power off phone.
then go to FASTBOOT or HBOOT system by pressing holding firmly ur camera button and power button.
HBOOT or bootloader (camera+power)
RECOVERY mode (home+power)
in fastboot or hboot mode u can see DREA1000000 blahblahblah thing..
see it carefully wheter u have DVT or PVT.
if it says DVT then STOP. i cant help you anymore
GO if ure PVT.
from that fastboot/hboot screen u can identify ur RADIO and SPL version.
SPL is something like: HBOOT-1.33.2005
RADIO is RADIO-2.22.23.02
Now, search for the RADIO and the SPL files. Google it, its so easy.
Once you found it, leave it zipped. dont unzip them.
U can found it in this lovely forum.
after u found it all,
Go to recovery mode, and prepare for partitioning the SDCard.
Before partitioning, u shuld see what the roms u wanna install need.
some roms need ext4 and some goes with ext3.
and some roms really set it to go with 96mb SWAP, 512mb ext3, FAT32.
Go to partition sdcard and choose partition SD.
Press home to continue partitioning blahblahblah
it will ask u for sizing ur SD PARTITION
SWAP= 96-128mb (depend on the ROM u want to install, some rom need exact amount of swap, and some roms dont explain it, so its up to you)
there are some debating club keep arguing how big swap file is recomended.
some says 32 mb wuld be the best since the biggest app u have in ur sdcard.
some says 128 is the best.
and some says "woaa, im confused a lot dude, lemme pick the mid one, i'd say go for 96 since i hate number 64. LOL"
and some believe, "bigger is better"
Ext2= 512mb (depend on the rom's need, if it doesnt say anything, go for 512mb, its enough for installing bunch of apps)
remainder? is the remaining space after SWAP and EXT2
Partitioning............
after done, upgrade to ext3..
proceed upgrading to ext4 if the rom can accept ext4..
if the rom doesnt say, please stay in ext3.
ATTENTION, ACHTUNG!!
FIRST, ALWAYS DO A MINIMAL NAND BACKUP, BART BACKUP BEFORE FLASHING ANY FILES!!
FIRST, ALWAYS DO A FULL WIPE (in recovery choose wipe and wipe everything except WIPE SD Ext) before and after FLASHING SOMETHING!!
FIRST, ALWAYS FLASH RADIO FIRST!!
THEN THE SPL FILES!!
AND ALWAYS READ WHAT THE SPL FILES NEED!! (SPL FILES NEED EXACT RADIO FILE)
if u mismatch, ur phone will be a nice PAPERWEIGHT
READY? FOR A NICE PAPERWEIGHT?
after done upgrading to ext3 or 4, in recovery mode, enable USB MS TOGGLE.
it will mount ur SD to computer.
drag RADIO "G1-radio-2_22_23_02.zip" files to sdcard, leave it ZIPPED.
then disable usb ms toggle.
then choose FLASH ZIP FROM SDCARD in recovery mode.
choose the radio file and proceed to flash.
done FLASHING YOUR RADIO?
now choose reboot system now.
it will reboot and comeback to RECOVERY mode.
enable usb ms toggle.
drag spl file to sd.
flash it like you flash your radio before.
done FLASHING SPL?
choose reboot.
comeback to rcoverry mode.
NOW URE READY TO FLASH MOST ROM IN THE BIBLE.
SuperE, Biffmod Froyo Leaving Jet Plain (not the one with ezterrys kernel), CM6 Froyo, and etc, needs dangerSPL.
danger/death SPL is the SPL i show u above.
and the SPL works well with the RADIO i show u above.
Read carefully the requirements of the ROMs.
Always do a wipe after flashing from SDcard.
Example of FLASHING SUPER E (u said u want eclair and i love ben very much):
1. download the super e rom.
it should be "signed-superE103.zip"
2. download the google apps for the rom. it contains market, gtalk, and any apps from google. it should be "gapps-ds-ERE36B-signed.zip"
3. go into Recovery mode (home+power)
4. wipe SD Ext
5. repair SD Ext partition (from menu partition sdcard)
6. flash "signed-superE103.zip" ROM (put it in ur sdcard first using usb ms toggle)
7. reboot
8. do all wipe from recovery except wipe sd ext
9. flash the "gapps-ds-ERE36B-signed.zip"
10. Reboot
11. DONE!!! Now ure running SUPER E by ben
12. Download a ton of apps from market!!
SETTINGS:
SPL 1.33.2005
RADIO 2.22.23.02
FAT32 SDcard
SWAP 96mb
512 ext2 --> ext3
HOPE this GUIDANCE will help u to walk straight the android way of life

Personally I recommends SuperAosp with GO Launcher EX (replace ADW Launcher). And recommending setting your SD card partition the same as mine. (see my sig)

hay man was just wondering if you figured it out yet.. i could help you real easy throu recovery so just message me or something if you still need help

hi all,
i know xda usually asks for people to read first before asking. I tried reading up on how to flash a new rom on g1 but i still don't really get it. ( im not very good with computer jargon), so i kinda need some help.
my friend's g1 was flashed with cyanogen mod 6.0.0 and it became very, VERY slow after a while. now, since he's not very big on cell phone hacking, he's come to me (i had an xperia x10 and i flashed that one) for help. but i don't know anything about the g1 and i don't know how to flash from one custom rom to another. can anyone give me some advice? i would really appreciate it.
thanks.

it all depends on what type of recovery he has, what his radio and hboot are and what type of rom he wants...
basic flashing is simple.. yu boot up in recovery by holding home+power.. this will bring up your recovery screen (usually the RA-dream or clockwork..)
in your case since i dont know anything about your phone i would DEFINETLY make a backup.. either nandroid or bart dont matter..
than you want to save that backup file to a pc or jus be sure not to delete it from your sd
than you can wipe your phone= data factory reset, cache, sd partition etc.. if neccessary.
than you want to repair your sd and make sure you are on correct ext.. some roms reqire ext2 some require 3, some 4 you get the picture..
at this point you are clean and ready to flash another .zip rom in recovery mode.. there all these lil details you gotta look out for or it wont work so send be back some info on the device and ill be glad to help out more!!

Just try pushing recovery via adb .. if you know how to use it
Do you mean fastboot isnt working? (3 skating andoids) it wont boot? or recovery doesnt work?
in the clockwork rom manager it has an option for broken recovery...
other than that put the recovery.img on the sdcard (the root of it) then connect the phone and type adb shell flash_image /sdcard/recovery.img
i have tried it with ADB its gives message
usage : Flash_image partition file.img
but it doesn't boot in recovery mod what to do now ?

How ever here you go man,
Flashrac

Code:
1. On your phone, goto Settings, Applications, and make sure Unknown source is checked ON.
2. On your phone, goto Settings, SD card and phone storage, and click Unmount SD card.
3. Then click Format SD card (it should automatically remount after this).
4. Plug the phone into the compuer via USB, then pull down the notification bar and click on the SD card notification. Then click mount.
5. Download this APK and recovery image and save it to your computer:
6. Save both the recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2 and the FlashRec.apk to your computer, then copy them both to your SD card (do NOT put them inside any folders on the SD card, just put them on the SD card itself).
7. Unplug the phone from the computer once they are downloaded to the SD card.
8. Goto the Market and download Linda File Manager or any file manager program if you do not already have one.
9. Open the file manager and goto SDCard and then find the FlashRec apk file and click it. If asked tell it to use Package Installer to open it. It should automatically install the apk.
10. Open the FlashRec program and click on Backup Recovery Image and wait for it to finish.
11. Once done, click on the empty text box in the FlashRec program and type (again remember we have replaced the recovery image from the one in the video so type what is written here, NOT what is written in the video!):
/sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1.img
Then click on the Flash Custom Recovery Image button (this button might say something else in different versions of Flashrec, but similar to this) and wait for it to finish.
12. Turn off the phone and turn it on into Recovery mode by holding down Home and Power to turn it on (keep holding until the recovery screen comes up has a bunch of text on a black background). So long as that screen comes up, you have done it correctly
Now this mite not work with your rom but it will not damage it in any way,
If point 10 fails then you will not be able to do it this way.
I know my self i had to downgrade my orange rom before doing it,
But before that point 10 just kept saying failed,
Downgrade and it worked a treat.
Hope that helps.
how to downgrade ???
Greetings,
I guess it did not work then,
As for the downgrade this depends on your provider,
I was able to get the orange rru thats a .exe and just run this,
But if you give have a look on the internet for your provider i am sure you will be able to find some thing,
If not get back to me with the name of your provider and the software you are on at this point and i will have a look for you.
my hero has no logo on it and its unlocked to all networks and i m using it in pakistan i m using warid as service provider and they dnt know anything about this issuee

User's guide to installing data2ext mod

Setting Up Data2Ext with RA 1.7 RecoveryI made this guide for my own personal future use and decided to share it with the community. I take no credit whatsoever for this information or the files used to install this mod on your phone. Credit for the guide goes to Laie1472 who spent several hours walking me through the process in the absence of good instructions for our device. If you don’t know what this mod does or could potentially do to/for your phone, don’t install it. Please read this entire guide before flashing or asking questions which may already have been answered. As the title states this is for users who have RA 1.7 Recovery installed. If you don’t have RA 1.7 recovery, you can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10531580&postcount=5
Now on with the guide:
Step 1. Back up your sd card to your computer as this process will format and partition your sd card.
Step 2. Reboot into recovery and select partition sd (this will wipe everything on your card). You will be given 3 prompts….swap, ext. 2, & Fat 32. Partition as follows:
Swap=0
Ext2=1024
Fat32=remainder
Step 3. Since the above step erased everything on your sd card, now would be a good time to do a nandroid backup.
Step 4. Download & place on the root of your sd, the data2ext2-v7.zip attached to this thread, but DO NOT FLASH IT YET.
Step 5. Decide whether or not you’re going to use your current rom or install a new rom (easier). If you’re going to use your current, you’re going to want to uninstall all of your apps & theme in order to utilize the additional memory you’ll be freeing up on your phone. If you’re going to use a new rom download it & the appropriate gapps and move them to the root of your sd.
Step 6. Boot into recovery, wipe, and flash your new rom & gapps. Boot into your rom and sign in, but don’t install any of your apps.
Step 7. Reboot back into recovery and flash the data2ext2-v7.zip
Step 8. Boot into your rom & open Terminal Emulator.
Type the following commands minus the ( )
su
mount|egrep mmcblk0p2
(this should return nothing but a #)
Now type:
mke2fs -m0 -b4096 /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(let the scripts run….when they finish you’ll type the next line)
data2ext --enable
(You should now be prompted to reboot, so type)
Reboot
Step 9. Once you’re rebooted go to settings/storage. You should now see .94 GB or so of available space… Congratulations you’re almost done.
Step 10. The performance boost. Open Terminal Emulator again and type:
su
busybox mount -o remount,noatime,nodiratime, /mnt/asec/ext/ext2 /data
reboot
Step 11. You’re finished, but before you re-install your apps read the You Should Know section of this guide.
You Should Know:Now say you want to make a backup of your rom and you have data2ext enabled
do this
Boot into recovery and choose backup and restore. Then choose
create nandroid+ext back up
after it's done always flash the data2ext zip and reboot.
Say aosp/cm/whoever releases an updated rom and you want to update your rom and keep all your apps and theme and settings
Do this
Boot into recovery and make a nand+ext back up by following the steps above. "you don't have to if you already have good backup''
Now wipe cache and davlik-cache and flash then flash the rom update then flash the data2ext zip and reboot
Say you want to flash a new kernel with data2ext enabled
Do this
Boot into recovery wipe cache and davlik-cache. Then flash the kernel then flash the data2ext zip and reboot.
If you ever need to wipe cache or davlik-cache always flash the data2ext zip right after then reboot
PLEASE NEVER WIPE THE SD EXT unless your redoing the whole mod or just want to start fresh
AGAIN NEVER WIPE THE SD EXT
this will more that likely result in a boot loop and make all your once good nands useless
and you might have to reflash your recovery
Say you want to flash a sense rom to update prl/profile.
Do this
Boot into recovery wipe data, cache and davlik cache
then flash sense rom and update.
Then reboot back into recovery wipe data, cache and davlik-cache then choose which nand you want to restore after it's done restoring flash the data2ext zip and reboot
Always flash the data2ext zip after doing a nand restore.
Also with this mod it's not recommended to let your battery die or do a battery pull. If you do you might have to reflash your recovery and redo the whole mod over.
Also only shut down you phone with the rom options
apps like quick shutdown and hot reboot etc will not play nice with this mod. So only use the roms power options to shut down.
If you ever want to disable this mod, open Terminal Emulator and type:
su
data2ext --disable
Nice, I should add this to my links thread, you think?

Need some help, I tried flashing data2ext2-v7.zip and this is what I get...
Code:
Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (10 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted.
This was using the file in the OP with RA 1.7
Everything went fine, partitioned, wiped, fresh install of rom and gapps, rebooted, signed in, rebooted to recovery and then no go trying to flash data2ext
Any help would be great.
Try flashing this one. Let me know when you get it. Thanks.

Thanks a bunch. Got it and worked perfect. Just have to do the performance boost (What does that do really?) then going to look at the S-Off thing. I have put that off for a long time but might as well go for it.
Thanks to both of you for the nice tutorial here and the help.
Pm sent. And no prob glad you got it worked out. Also recommend s-off via darch's method.

OP has been updated with the SIGNED version of Data2ext.zip. Sorry Hippie, I uploaded the unsigned version to the guide. Thanks Laie1472 for hooking him up, while I was asleep.
I'm really considering this mod right now but have a concern with the battery pull portion of it since I have a 14-month old daughter that sometimes thinks the phone is a toy. lol
Question: If I disable the mod will it automatically move all /data back onto the phone? Assuming of course I have enough internal memory for it to be moved over, will it transfer automatically?
Really good write-up, thanks for taking the time to do so.

No problem at all. Your guide worked perfect and turns out it was super easy.
I also am happy to be back RA Recovery. Was using Clockwork for a short while and while its nice, RA is much better I think. Thats just me though.
Got me a **** ton of space now and phone is moving right along again. Thanks again guys.

I've been using this mod for a couple of weeks now and have had to do a couple of battery pulls with no negative effects on my phone. There are obviously things that can go wrong, but no guarantees they will. I've enabled it, disabled it, gone back to a sense rom, updated my Orlando & gone back without trouble....but you wont know for sure how your phone responds until you try it.

No problem, just back everything up to your pc and do a nand backup before you start and you have nothing to lose and about 3/4 gb of storage to gain
At step 8 I get "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 is apparently in use by the system; will not make a filesystem here!" when I input mke2fs -m0 -b4096 /dev/block/mmcblk0p2. The only deviation I made is I had to get a TE from the market since the one that comes with jaybob's rom won't accept numerical input.

I've never run Jaybob's rom, so I'm not sure if this is a rom specific thing, because I have used it on Deck's Gingerbread, Aosp, & CM7. What did you get when you typed:
su
mount|egrep mmcblk0p2
That should have returned only: #
Also which terminal emulator did you get from the market (I use Android Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich) and were you using the default gingerbread keyboard (as opposed to swype, slide it, etc.)?

I was using the default GB keyboard, and I got the same TE from the market. When I typed mount|egrep mmcblk0p2 I get "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /sd-ext type ext3 (rw,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1,nodelalloc,data=writeback)" then it goes back to just #. I was burned out last night, now I can think again. Seems like maybe the ext partition is ext3 when it should be ext2? I'm using RA 1.7 and I followed the directions for partitioning the sdcard.
About a year ago I used apps to SD for a short while then stopped, is it possible that the ext part from then is still there and conflicting with the new partition from RA 1.7? I would have thought it would be wiped during the new partitioning. The only ext visible from TE is the new one, but that's all I can come up with.
I installed the setup last night without a hitch. Using Kushdeck's latest ROM and so far so good. Re-installed all my apps from Titanium Backup without a problem and everything going smooth. Once again, thanks for the detailed how-to and informative comments to update the ROM

Ok i am new to android just traded my iPhone 4 for a HTC HD2 and it already had android on it when i got it. and i have some problems.
Number one biggest problem is i only have a power cord. no USB cord.
Problem 2 is this Rom is to say the least .. ODD.
Comes with no dialer, SMS app or Contacts app. However there is an option under -Settings-Ultimate Droid Setting-Modified Apps- Then a button i can push to install these things but it "installs them" but nothing happens these things do not show up anywhere. I am using 3rd Party replacements from the market which are OK (i would still perfer the stock apps) but then i have a Contacts Problem. i can push the create contacts button all day long and i get NOTHING no matter what app i try to do it from. I can import them from my computer but that is SUPER annoying.
So to put everything in a quick rundown
Cannot Create Contacts
No Stock Dialer, SMS app, or contacts app.
No USB cord to change roms.
Now here is another problem i ran into before everyone tries to tell me how to do this.
My Phone does in fact have aMAGLDR V1.12 Build Feb 03:45:07 by Cotulla 2011
So i thought well ill just install Rom Manager and Flash to Different Rom.
BUT i ran into more issues...
I flashed ClockworkMod to my phone like i was suppose to so i could flash my rom that i found to my phone with Rom Manager. Says it installed and was successful
SO then i clicked Install ROM from SD Card like i was suppose to after moving the rom zip to my SD card directory like the tutorial i found said to do. it found it and i clicked it checked all the appropiate boxes and hit ok. it said booting into recovery mode and shut off. When it came back on i held down the Red button like i was suppose to so i could get to the aMAGLDR menu like i was suppose to. I selected "AD Recovery" and it showed "No Boot Sources".
SO ONCE AGAIN.. FAIL....
i need help correcting all these issues please as i am a noob.
Also if someone could suggest to me a HTC HD2 Android 2.3 rom thats pretty close to stock and has all stock apps in tact that would be AMAZING. i do need it to keep my UNLOCK though as it is a T-Mobile Model and i am using At&t.
ALSO Below i will post all my phones Specs.
P.S. i am Currently booting from NAND not SD
About Phone:
Model Number HTC Bravo (Its Actually an HTC HD2 just HTC BRAVO for the ROM Base)
Android Version 2.2.1
Baseband Version 15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2
Kernal Version 2.6.32.15ocm_hastarin8.6N-gb02686c-dirtyroot(at Symbol)ocm#2
Build Number JDMS 1.6.2
Any other Questions. let me know. please and thank you for the help ALOT
Did you install the clockwork Rom Manager?
...you can't use the Rom Manager with magldr, it's just compatible with the clk bootloader.
I would suggest to start from the very beginning:
task 29:
flash magldr 1.13: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
- Follow this tutorial until(including) step 1
flash the latest clockworkmod and the correct partition size: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987531
For MAGLDR 1.13, booting from NAND:
Download the file attached and named "recovery_3.2.0.0_leo.img.zip"
Download a partition layout incl. recovery from this thread which fits your ROM you want to use best and unzip it into "C:\recovery" for example
Copy over "recovery_3.2.0.0_leo.img" from inside the zip archive into this folder "C:\recovery", delete existing "recovery-raw.img" and rename "recovery_3.2.0.0_leo.img" to "recovery-raw.img"
Flash the recovery and partition layout using "DAF.exe" as usual and described in the thread of raiderx or the ROM provider
Boot Recovery with menu point "8. AD Recovery"
You're done

Click to collapse
flash rom. e.g. typhhon cm7: here you will need a 150mb partition size with 4mb cache.

Bootloops again and again with every Rom I use

Hello Android user
First off all, sorry to bother you with this problem but I already used Google and the searchengine but I wasn't able to find a solution.
I have the HTC hd2 nand flashed with the newest maglrd version. (I am completely new in this scene)
I had Android 2.3.4 installed when I bought this phone but I wished to have an Android with HTC sense so I downloaded an nand Rom for hd2 but it was no use, I got always those screen freezes (boot loops) , till I took an autoinstaller from dark force team and know I am still messing up with a bad moddet 2.2 rom, could someone write an step by step tutorial for me?
I want to get 2.3.4 again (in the best case with sense)
I found a lot of other tuts but I can't understand the meaning of the steps because I am an noob, a tutorial for dummy would be great, I would really appreciate it !
Thanks a lot for reading my thread.

you must repartition your nand according to the needs of the rom.at first page of android nand thread there is hd2 nand tool kit dowload it. connect your phone to pc-in mgldr menu choose usb flasher-see usb flasher....usb-in toolkit choose appropriate partition sizes then click repartition. in addition if you are an eu hd2 user you should have sd-ext partition for sense roms.ifyou stuck ask again
Thanks Pal, I will try it !
Sounds pretty easy, I will contact you, if I stuck on my effort, but thanks for the
hint
Awesome !

Yeah AOSP roms (CM7, etc) use much smaller partitions than Sense roms. For example with a TMOUS HD2 a AOSP rom like Typhoon uses roughly 130mb system partion wheras a Sense rom use 390-400mb partition. If you do not change this and try to flash a Sense rom then you are essentially running out of space before the rom can be fully installed, ergo the bootloop.
Like the previous poster said, check the first page of each rom you download as they usually tell you what size partition to use. Some will even have a daf.exe file for you to flash the appropriate partion & recovery.
Good luck
Hay guys, thanks for your adives but it was no use, I still get those damn loops,
could anyone give me his instant messanger adress, so he could guide me through the installation.
I am pretty dessperate
In your opening post you say "screen freezes(bootloops)"
Which is it? Freezing or looping? Cos they're two different things.
Looping is often associated with power problems such as a bent battery pin, whilst freezing could be not clearing the data/cache/sdext partition, or overheating, (amongst various others)
Important Notice: If you were given a direct link to this post, edit step #8 and choose a ROM you prefer from the NAND sub-forum and edit step #11 and enter the values you get from the ROM's thread/OP.
HD2 Android NAND for dummies:
1-This tutorial assumes that you have HSPL already installed, your device is connected to your pc and you have the latest drivers, please carry on.
1a- Fully Charge your phone (use external charger, or manage yourself!)
2- Go to ksubedi's Thread and download his HD2 NAND Toolkit (thanks ksubedi!)
3- After Installing it, Power Off your device (HD2) and power on into bootloader mode (Power on while Holding Volume down)
4- After seeing ("Serial" changed to "USB") on your phone, run the toolkit with Administrator rights (default).
5-(Optional) From bottom right corner choose "Wipe (Task29)", go through the steps and when your device reboots go into bootloader again (Volume Down and Power On).
6- Choose from bottom right corner "Install MAGLDR", go through the process and when your phone restarts hold the power button (not the volume!)
7- MAGLDR Screen will appear, Go down (using volume rockers) to Option 5. USB Flasher and wait for it to say "wait USB".
8- Go to Tyween's Thread and download his ROM (Thanks tyween)
**8- Typhoon is a CM7 build not sense (Sense takes more NAND Space and can be somewhat laggy and slow )
9-After Downloading the MAG Build, put the ZIP file on your sd card and put it into your phone.
10- On the toolkit, from the top panel choose "MAGLDR Repartition" and from the left panel choose 150mb system partition and from the bottom set the cache size to 5mb then click on repartition and go through it.
11- Reboot your phone into MAGLDR screen (by holding the Power on button)
11-a (Optional) if you think you may need extra storage for your apps/games, create an ext3 or ext4 partition on your sdcard using Easeus Partition Manager on your PC.
12- Go to Option 8.Android Recovery (Using volume rockers) and hit the Green Button (Dial Button) to go to recovery.
13- A Black screen with orange/blue text will show up (This is recovery) go to "Install Zip from sd card" And then choose the second option then choose your recently downloaded ROM and hit green button, now look at step 13a before confirming, then hit yes.
13a- If you chose to create an ext partition on your sdcard in step 11-a, don't forget to either a-select NAND with DataOnExt when installing the ROM. (If supported by ROM) or b-flash an a2sd script after flashing the ROM immediately.
14-a Now it will begin the flashing process, just wait for it.
14-b when it finish, simply choose "Reboot system now" and let the device boot into Android.
14-c After the device has booted, dont touch your phone but let it initialize for at least 3 minutes before using it.
Is this what you asked for?
Please read the following F.A.Q before sending me any PMs or making a post!
F.A.Q:
Q: What do you mean by drivers in step #1?
A: Read this short post.
Q: In step #1, you say "HSPL". What is that? And how do I install it?
A: Read this.
Q: In step #7 my device never says "wait USB"?
A: Sometimes, it may be connected without "wait USB" appearing. You can try to continue without waiting for it. But if the flashing fails, you need to check your steps.
Q: I cannot find the MAG build for the ROM I want?
A: Recently, they have been combining both cLK and MAGLDR into one zip. If the developer doesn't mention cLK or MAGLDR, it's a universal zip so download it and install it.
Q: When installing the ROM, I was asked to use "PPP or RMNET". Which one do I choose?
A: Choose RMNET. (You can choose PPP, but it drops sometimes).
Q: I did all the steps but I am stuck in a bootloop, what do I do?
A: It could be anything, but mostly bad blocks. Increase the system partition by ~20MB.
Q: The ROM I want to use says "SD-EXT" or "EXT partition" is required. What does that mean?
A: It means step 11a is mandatory for you.
Thanks a lot Marvlesz, you really made my day haha

I'm really glad that I helped you, and there are "simple, easy" tutorials floating everywhere, I dont think another one is essential
too big partition possible? Problems with Pyramid.
RAFdroid works perfect on my HD2 EU. Nand partition is 400.
When I try to install one of the available Pyramid ROMS, they all keep repeating the white/green "quietly brilliant" screen (One time I let it for 2 hours, but no effect). Is this because I did not change the NAND partition? It's bigger than needed. In recovery I allways do factory reset and whipe Dalvik cache.
change your nand partition.because it is much more bigger than the rom wants and this may cause problem.
Changing the NAND partition was the solution. Why do they use such a small partition in NAND, and such a big one on SD. Is the remaining NAND still in use for something?
Could some one of you recommond a android rom with 2.3.x with htc sense

1-have you wiped data/factory reset in ad recovery
2-do you have sd-ext partition in sd card
3-have you made 5-160-5 nand partition
4-have you downloaded the right file(mgldr-clk)
Can you explain this "2-do you have sd-ext partition in sd card" to me?
And yes, I downloaded the magldr version pal

the rom you have chosen doesnt boot without an sd-ext partition.this procedure will erase your sd.so make a backup to pc.this can be done at pc but i try to teach doing it at mgldr.in mgldr menu go to:ad recovery-advanced-partition sd card-2048m(since this rom is big i recommend this)-then 0 as swap(i use 128m to support ram but you shuld know that swap may harm your sd). now put your backup to sd:in mgldr ad recovery-mounts and storage-mount usb storage now your pc will see your sd.
Thanks a lot !
Could you be so kind and write the tutorial just like Marvlesz ?
(You can almost copy the biggest part from him)

After instaling Task 29 with Radio 2.15.50.14 windows won't run.It say green HTC and don't startup.
Thanks a lot for **** up my phone ...
What i can do ?
download radio '2.15.50', the 'nand toolkit' and 'paranoidandroid' rom from android NAND section. (You can change later, i'm just keeping it simple.)
phone into bootloader (voldown and power)
connect USB
when the word 'serial' changes to 'USB' on phone screen, ,
run hspl4.exe and choose 2.08.hspl NOT 2.08.0000, it MUST be 2.08.hspl ONLY.
when phone reboots, hold voldown to return to bootloader
serial changes to --> USB
install the radio (either run the customRUU.exe that came with teh radio,
OR
in the nand tookit, at the bottom left ''browse|install RUU'' choose browse and find the radio file you downloaded (RUU_Signed.nbh probably) then click install RUU
when phone reboots, quickly hold voldown to return to bootlaoder
when serial --> USB
in the NAND tookit click 'install magldr'
when phone reboots, don't touch it, it will start the magldr menu. if it doesn't,. you probably skipped the radio step.
In the magldr menu choose USB flasher
in the nand toolkit at the top left make sure 'magldr repart' is selected, then below that click the 150 MB
below that type 5 in the cache size box
then in the bottom left click 'repartition'.
when phone reboots let it load the magldr menu,
choose option 8 - AD recovery - this will start clockworkmod
in the clockwork mod menu choose mounts and storage - mount sd card-
copy the paranoid android rom.zip (dont unzip it) to your sd card
(you can also do this through a card reader if you have one)
still in clockwork mod, press end to step back untill you see the 'install zip from sd ', select that, then 'choose zip from sd' , , find where you copied the rom to, select it, sit back, let it install, then choose reboot system now.
done.
zzz i'm newbie,it looks a bit hard....
Can u support me via Team viwer pls? ...ofc if u have time..
It can't be more simple.. You can also use HD2 Toolkit thread (with screenshots). Link in my signature.

Thanks..
If you find a list of step by steps complicated, then no offence but you probably shouldn't be flashing.

listen and read this CAREFULLY. In order to install android on your internal memory ie. NAND installation, you have to follow these steps,
1. Install HSPL 2.08
2. Install Radio 2.15
3. Install MAGLDR or clK ( BOOTLOADERS )
4. Install CWM(clockworkmod recovery)
5. Install the Rom via CWM
6. Voila
You can google how to do this. Flashing means installing(if you dont know)
This is a very simple guide which takes you through all the above steps and all files are available for download. READ READ and READ somemore

Sometimes you may run into strange problems when you install the ROM.
Therefore, my recommendation is after installing CWM do:
- Partition your HD2 (using HD2 Tool) 170 Mb (Custom) and 5 Mb Cache
- Copy your ROM to the SD Card (Using USB Mount in CWM)
- Flash your ROM using Choose ZIP from SD Card
- Waitn till it has finished
- FLASH YOUR ROM A SECOND TIME (This may solve written data to Bad Blocks)
- Do not reboot but go to Advanged in CWM and do Error Report
- Copy Recovery.log to your PC Using USB Mount and check this with your favourite Wordprocessor (eg. MS-Word) and look for errors
- if there are errors, try flash again of go back and create a bigger partition (5 Mb Increments will work)
- if OK, then reboot type your SIM/PIN ans leave the phone alone for 5 nimutes at least (all sorts of homekeeping going on)
- Log on using your Google account and after you finish, let the phone finish all synchronisations (may take 10 minutes)
- Then fix your Google Play and start installing apps.
Worked for me

During the partitioning process is when CWM is installed, , partitioning wipes / resets the recovery partition, and loads cwm into it, so partitioning 'after' installing cwm is nonsensical.
I assume what you're essentially pointing out is that you have to select a partition size when installing CWM anyway so you may as well do it right the first time, right? Just wanted to clarify to anyone who was unsure of what this meant.
Sent from my NexusHD2 using XDA
yea. for most users, 'partitioning' and 'installing cwm' are the same step. Certainly for magldr, , , perhaps cLK is a little different, but i suspect anyone that knows how to apply cwm without repartitioning, how-to lists don't apply to. Anyone that needs a list, however, could do without teh confusaion of figuring out how to apply cwm and THEN partition.
