[THINK TANK] HTC Sense 3.0 on Galaxy Tab .Update HTC Flyer Dump is OUT ! - Galaxy Tab General

I love sense so I really would love to get a port working
So I looked around and found a couple threads that have some sort of Sense working on Galaxy S devices, which are quite similar to our tabs, threads here:
MAIN GOAL
HTC FLYER ROM Port
DOWNLOAD DUMP HERE: http://911sniper.blog.163.com/blog/static/14290088120113282336926/
or here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H3JA41CW
I understand this wont be a walk in the park, but thats why its a think tank so everyone can help! Anyways this is XDA anything is possible : P
Ya so just post your opinions about what you think

Hell yeah, I would be up for that

You get some Sense 3.0 working and you'll be a demi-god around these forums....

Lol I def wont be able to get anything working myself, im not a developer, but hopefully we can get some sort of team up and running to do it. Also hopefully the htc flyer's rom dump will come soon, as that has the exact resolution as our devices

If we get a Flyer port, I will happily donate a kidney to whoever ported it.

Sense is SENSATIONAL!! well, their facebook integration anyway

Most Excellent, I miss that from my HTC HD2 days..

HTc sense is awesome. I would love to have htc sense port on my gtab.

ffs, the way you was talking in your OP it sounded like you was taking the challenge on.
This is pretty much a useless thread then , if there was any dev interested it would have likely been attempted by now.
[EDIT] Looks like OP has been edited/updated.

I would defitnetly take the challenge but like i said i would need some assistance, i am still pondering if i should try to mess around with one of the roms above or wait for the htc flyer rom dump.

I would like a sense port either sense 3.0 or from the flyer it would look sexy. But then again so would a stock honeycomb port with basic functions working

Arguably the best UI for the Tab? Why not?

Let's set up a bounty!
That would be truly awesome... Sense UI is amazing...
Even if OP isn't a developer, I'm sure the thread can bring together developers who would be willing to spare some time and effort to get it ported... That's what XDA is all about
I think a good start would be to set up a bounty so we can entice those that do have the ability to get onto it...
I'm in favour of a bounty if we have enough people for that

Everyone has their own opinion. And yours is wrong!
Jokes aside, it'd probably be best to wait for a Flyer ruu leak. HTC are always good at leaking them

You prefer the original Touchwiz? I like the Touchwiz too actually. The only one that bugged me is that I have to download the "sort app" application (only works after rooting) or any other launcher if I want to arrange my icons alphabetically.

Nexus One owners feeling a little Nexus S envy can breathe a little easier -- we're hearing that Android 2.3 Gingerbread is being pushed out to the N1 as we speak. We'd imagine that all the slick new features that don't require new hardware (like NFC support) will be there, and we're definitely interested in playing with this built-in WiFi calling stack. We'll let you know what we find -- won't you do the same?

i don't see any major attractive things make me update to 2.3 immediately.
the most excited feature is the improved voice command. and improved keyboard.
What interests me is the new dalvik-cache handling, supposed to speed things up a lot.

Not really, but the actual dump from a real device would be nice, because it has drivers, and things like that. When infinitybiff makes a release, rest assured, not everything will work right away. I quote infinitybiff when I say that.
at least its good to have something out early, then work on fixes....good stuff
Heres some screenshots of the (slightly) new theme for gingerbread.

[Think Tank] Port of Desire S Gingerbread Update 12/4/2010* Success

Due to the overwhelming support for such a project to be undertaken I thought it would be a good idea to set up a think tank and get some valuable info from devs on this process. There are many people willing to support this process with cash, I do not want any fiscal rewards but it may be there for devs that do.
Please no flaming, just constructive comments on where to start with this
Update: 10/04/2010
apreichner is going to try and port a Desire S Sense build to the NS, he has built a ROM from source before & this looks to be the first major dev involvement in this process. My thanks to apreichner and I wish you all the luck possible, and im sure there is quite a lot of other people in the community rooting for you too
Update: 12/4/2011
apreichner has become the first person to boot HTC Sense on a Nexus S. At the moment nothing works but this is a fantastic monumental event in the life of the NS. Let's hope this is the beginning of good times for this device

I don't know why the Nexus S lacks dev support when its supposed to be a dev phone. It definitely has the hardware for it. The g1 still gets dev support and its hardware sucks compared to a phone like the Nexus S. Does anyone know about how many devs the NS has?

Smh, its sad. Google should pay some secret devs to come to XDA to show others the potential of the NS hardware and maybe other devs might do some exciting ports other than the traditional gingerbread roms. I DO APPRECIATE THE CURRENT DEVS AND THEIR HARD WORK, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

Wouldn't it be illegal to port the customizations made by Samsung and HTC? Just a thought as to why this may not be getting any attention.
If I recall correctly, there was even a widget developer that was asked by HTC to stop distributing a Sense-based theme.

There are lots of Sense ports on the N1 section so its ok... I think its only illegal if your doing it for fiscal purposes.

Why would it be illegal? Isn't Android open-source like linux? I hope its not because I really would like to see the HTC Sense. I even got a chance to see the samsung ui (I think you guys have been calling it Touchwhiz) and it looks pretty snazzy too!
Hey jupiterdroid, I noticed in your signature that you do some computer related stuff. Have you ever tried developing? Maybe if you started working on a port others would join in!

Technically porting android would not be illegal, but sense is not open source so porting that for fiscal purposes could be seen as stealing.
Mate I wished I could port and code, all my experience is in networking and programing Cisco routers;( I would love to give this a go, but even experienced coders failed to port sense to the vibrant, it makes me fear the worst, and is also making me consider selling the NS and buying the Evo 3D when it arrives in Europe Just miss the diversity of a HTC phone

I've tried virus' kingdom rom port for the evo. sure, visually I thought sense was "appealing" but in the end it's still sense to me. too much stuff/clunky imo.
Plenty of the widgets have similar alternatives so that part doesn't bother me like it used to.
Aosp is always at it's latest and greatest, tag that along with CM and it's even better
Although I will say the 3.0 sense lockscreen is pretty nice I wouldn't mind having that...

I hated my phone after a while with the stock 2.1 and the bluetooth issue was frustrating and it was slow. The Sensible Gingerbread rom is actually pretty nice and it is getting further along every other day. The lockscreen is really cool too. But, this thing is a lot snappier than stock and it's 2.3.4 with a working camera and mms. You might want to try it. I was a sense naysayer before trying it out myself.
There's nothing wrong with having as many options as possible IMO.

thats what i was getting at if the release the HTC sdk and make some of the sense 3.0 for older phones you could strip down a htc rom or add what little to a rom that you want. it would give every one that flashes or builds rom more options.

[ROM Request] HTC Sense 3.0

Hi, I'm from the Epic section and I think that a Sense 3.0 Port would be awesome, possibly first for the GS and then for the Epic. I'm only asking here because most of our devs are migrating phones or just abandoned us. Also, help on our port for MIUI would be appreciated.

Because pointing out forum rules is being a prick. Perhaps you need to adjust your perception of reality and possibly re evaluate your understanding of the word "prick". There's no need to throw insults just because you can't handle the forum rules.
The point is you should only be asking in the epic subforum, that's the forum for your phone. We have the subforums to keep organization, they're not there just for lulz.
Fine, whatever, but back on topic, a Sense 3.0 port for the Galaxy S (only I guess) would be appreciated and our devs for Epic can port from that hopefully.

Without outright stating "I am better than you" you can not have condescension on the internet. You can't hear my tone of voice because this is text, you can't see my facial expressions or gestures. Text is text and you misinterpreted it to mean that I felt you were an inferior being, which was not the case.
Also it was fruitless trying to edit your post to remove the "prick" statement after I already quoted it. It's there for good once you get quoted.

How to install htc sense 3.0 for my DESIRE HD
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Theres been at least 2 attempts to port Sense in the past. Both attempts were failures. That doesn't mean it isn't possible, but, even if it is done, HTC would probably be well within their rights to send a cease and desist and shut down the project anyway (because, I doubt that the license for sense allows it to operate on other manufacturers models).
It needs to be be ported by developers who strongly believe in the project, even knowing that if they did succeed, they may be the only ones who CAN use it. But, you'd be much better off simply buying a HTC device honestly.
HTC is super overprotective of their TMs. They sent a cease and desist letter for a clock that resembled theirs on the market, but if we can run their live wallpapers, we can probably run their skin.

As for sense 3.0, the devs of the roms in my sig are working on a 3.0 port, but need help from other devs to get it working correctly.
I have Sense 3.0 working ok...
I'd just need some help to fix the graphic...the apps icons and stock android widget are not displayed on the interface...
it works perfect for the rest!!

i had a htc phone, from the experience htc sense is slow as a turtle.put a nexus live wallpaper on a htc desire hd,it starts to lag like hell and slows down. With that price and specs it shouldnt.Change the sense away and everything works smooth. And why even ask for the port,if you like it so much.buy a htc.

its not really there yet guys, be patient:
The push process:
-push to master, update the master manifest.
-push to the development branch, create the matching manifest.
-push to the release branch, tag it, create the machine manifest.
I'm still in the first phase, which is the longest one.

How long do you reckon it will take for a stable port to the HTC Desire Z?
I'd say a few weeks for unstable ports, then a month or two for CM9 nightlies and eventually a stable build.

Thanks
Forgive the stupid question here but does each phone type need its own custom ROM? Ie will we need a Rom customized for the desire z?
Hurray!

Yes, because the Vision has its own set of drivers that need to be cooked into the ROM for all the hardware to work.
Probably never, why would people waste their time porting it for the G2 when they have newer phones to work with?

Why would they put 2.3 on the hero and g1. Simple answer. Because they can. Quit being a douche. If you can't be constructive then throw your keyboard/phone/tablet in the trash.

Edit: Also remember that CM7 was on these phones pretty quick. The devs in our community know these phones. Plus the experience of doing it once might just make it a little easier to do it again. I remember from the Eris forums the devs saying it was easier to get 2.3 since they already battled through 2.2.
I'm also willing to bet you will see ICS for the g1 and hero also. Once again, just to say they did it!

wow. Pretty sure ICS is going to arrive even on phones that don't qualify.

Yeah....no.
That is why the dev community is so cherished on Android, they keep old phones up to date. If they only worked on new phones, which will see these updates officially anyway, what's the freaking point? The G2 is a phone the devs (including Cyanogen himself) really like. So spend a little bit getting informed next time.

Why would people troll a forum when they have better things to do?
That's the whole point of these development forums: to provide old, unsupported devices with the latest updates since the manufacturer won't.
Looks like someone has a lot to learn about the Android development community.

Can you tell me what phone out there with a keyboard is as nice as the Desire Z? I seriously don't know of any. The Captivate Glide looks like it's a contender but it has a grid keyboard, doesn't look like it'll have a notification LED, camera button, or the trackpad.

Apparently TrueYears has been trolling pretty hard this month, go look at his recent posts.
TrueYears, please leave immediately and never return. You are not contributing anything worthwhile. I'm serious; leave. This is a community where folks help one another learn and GIVE OF THEMSELVES to be a part of this, for ****ing FREE. You literally have no place here. You are completely at odds with the objectives of this community.
I'm just curious, how long did it take after gingerbread source for alpha CM rooms to start appearing?
