[Q] Applied update, phone rebooted, now uhh? - Intercept General

Ok, so I updated from stock, using official update phone rebooted and stayed at samsung screen forever it kept blinking and vibrating. Pulled battery, tried restarting it goes samsung loading bar -> VM welcome -> flashing/vibrating samsung screen.....I can get into recovery AND download mode. Tried clearing cache, factory reset, and updating again, but still gets stuck at samsung screen. I am desperate guys I really need help, I am going on a LONG road trip this weekend and need my phone so ANY help would really be appreciated. THANKS!

When u say update do u mean u went from ex. 2.1 to 2.2.... android that is? U should elaborate a hit more, if what I mentioned is the case then revert back to the ROM prior to the update. If u give more info I may be able to help from my personal experiences

Yes used official update went from 2.1 (stock) to 2.2 as the update finished, it got stuck in a sort of boot cycle, stuck at a samsung screen keeps flashing samsung logo, and vibrating. wont fully boot

OK, I saw on my facebook page samsung intercept page. Mediafire link to download update.zip file, has anyone tried this. Will this work,if it bricks my phone i will be pissed...

There's always the chance that a phone can get bricked, no mater what ...even from an 'official' update from your service provider. With that said, however, I've downloaded the Virgin Mobile 2.2 Froyo update file that's floating around and it installed no problem on my phone.
For the first poster ....I believe that the stock recovery is necessary for the VM 2.2 update to work. I won't swear on that though.
Here's what I did. Downloaded the 2.2 VM Froyo update to my laptop. Renamed it 'update.zip'. Copied it to the root of my sdcard on my Intercept via bluetooth. Booted into recovery mode and applied the update. Twiddled my thumbs while it updated itself from recovery and then rebooted....and the reboot takes a while, maybe 5 minutes. Presto ...2.2 Froyo.

I think that you didn't wait long enough...as the reboot takes a looooong time, maybe 5 minutes or more at least. Patience is a virtue.

Okay guys,im new here. I installed VM Froyo 2.2 update.zip,it seems to work fine. A bit slow but its still booting up. I installed stock rom, stock kernal, and update.zip,in that order. And backup works too, wiped dalvik cashe to. I like this forum its more informative, will let yall know more later. Thanks.

You're making this way to convoluted. All that one needs to do when updating from stock 2.1 on the VM Intercept is to download the (official unofficial) update file, rename it to 'update.zip' on the root of the sdcard, boot into recovery, and apply the update. That's it. It installs Froyo and the new radio, etc, itself...all from the update.zip. No need to mess with kernels and recovery or wipe anything ....except one's own azz if they go take a chit while waiting for it to reboot. In fact, when I updated it even kept all of my 2.1 widgets and icons and imported them into Froyo ...I didn't need to do a thing.
Oh, I see ....you had to convert your Intercept back to 'stock' first. Nevermind...

Yes, i did i downloaded stock rom, stock kernal and stock recovery all .zip. Put stock.zips in sdx/zip folder and update.zip 2.2 in root on sdcard. Installed all three wiped dalvik cashe rebooted each time in custom recvery. When i got to stk rec. rebooted to stock rec. Ran update.zip 2.2 may take a while but it booted no problems.

Can u get the phone into download more with any button sequences, YouTube it if u don't know what i mean(mobiletechvideos) then y will need to use odin to use tp download an official Samsung Rom.... PM if u need help

[Q] Lost Superuser permissions

After the OTA update killed my phone, I used Odin to recover and then put Bionix 1.9 on my phone. Everything was good until last night when I tried to put the 1.91 update on. It looks like I have lost root and/or superuser permissions. I ran Clockwork recovery to load the ROM and it booted, let me pick the ROM and then started giving me error messages like:
The application Superuser Permissions (process com.noshufou.android.su) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. And force close.
Now Titanium backup and other root apps won't work. I tried unrooting and re-rooting with no luck. What should I do?
In Rom Manager run > Fix Permissions.
If that doesn't work un-install Superuser and reinstall.
I don't seem to be able to uninstall superuser. It's like I lost root and can't get it back. There is no superuser app listed to uninstall.
You're probably just better off ODINing back to stock and flashing straight to Bionix 1.9.1. There's some releases of Bionix 1.9 that had some issues, you may have gotten a bad copy.
I am downloading the stock image to my home computer now. Something is all screwed up with my permissions.
I am new to the Samsung so I have a noob question, why do some roms only let you Odin and others clockwork install? I prefer using Odin on the Samsung but I don't know if I can install the Bionix that way. Almost everything on the MT3G side with Cyanogen was done through the boot loader. Even on the MT3G I have had problems with Clockworks from time to time.
Can I extract the Bionix file and use Odin? Sorry for the stupid questions I am just trying to figure this out!
Good question. I myself prefer Clockwork to flash ROMs, since I think it's a lot faster and more convenient than messing with Download Mode. As far as I know, Bionix is only flashable via ROM Manager / Clockwork.
It's all about the way they package it. Sombionix must prefer clockwork installs so he does it that way. I always go download mode if I can. Much more reliable in my eyes.

Same here I always flash from Recovery Mode opposed to Rom Manager for flashing new roms.
I went back to the stock rom and now the phone won't come up. It loads the Vibrant screen then the T-Mobile screen finally the Galaxy S and then goes blank. Is it dead? I have tried flashing it back to the stock rom a few times and it looks like it is working. It does give a message that says it can't wipe the data though.
What should I do?

I'm assuming that you've got a decent charge on the phone (>65%) since you haven't been using it. You can get into download mode just fine right? What version of Odin are you running 1.0 or 1.3? Which stock JFD package did you download? This one has worked for me in the past.
~SB
I used the 1.3 Odin. I reinstalled the drivers from the package I found here forum.xda-developers.com/ showthread.php?t=803492
I can still get into download mode. I think the battery is above 65% still. I have had it hooked most of the afternoon.
I had also tried the download you linked to.
I just tried again with the files you posted and the same results. It keeps saying that it can't format the data / do the wipe.

Lemme look around the forums and see what I can find. This phone is pretty resistant to bricking. I'm sure there's a fix for this in one of the few million posts here.
Thanks! I can't wait 7 days for a replacement phone.
Try this thread and see if it works for you. Seems like some people were having the same issues.

I am at the Android System Recovery and it boots with the error like it is supposed to but I can't seem to get the command prompt step. It says to go to a command prompt and run ADB Reboot. Where do I find the A It looks like this DB command at?might work if I can get the phone to reboot.
Edit: I see it is in the SDK.
It's alive!! Thanks SB for all of your help. I have Froyo running. I will leave it there for now.

[Q] I think I've jacked up my phone...

I tried to use SuperOneClick to root my phone and it seemed to work. The program came back saying I successfully rooted my phone.
I then went to ClockworkMod to install cyanogen and clicked on the appropriate boxes to begin the download process for cyanogen 6.0 stable mod and ran it.
My phone rebooted and started to run some scripts.
Now, the phone just reboots to the green mytouch screen and continues to loop like that and I have no idea what to do.
I can get into fastboot on the mt3g and when I do, my pc makes the sound that states that the phone is connected but when I try to get into the mytouch, using adb, my pc cant access it but when I plug up my G2, I can see the serial number and such showing that it is connected.
I tried to follow the fastboot driver installation page but it didn't seem to work.
Bottom line is I would really enjoy a functional MT3G in either the regular form or cyanogen (which is why im in this predicament now )
For the the record,
I was running 1.6 but got the OTA update for 2.2 before I ended up blowing up my phone.
Thanks for reading this and any aid would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATED:
I found something called SAPPIMG.NBH that allowed me load Android 1.5 onto my phone. I now am back to a functioning device but still, I am super stuck on trying to get cyanogen onto my device. Any helpful hints? From what you read above, did I miss something?
Thanks again.
... Sadness... I have been bashing my face against this mt3g and haven't been able to get cyanogenmod on this phone for the life of me. I have tried all of the builds from 5.08 up to RC1 of 6.10 and I just get the infinite loop at the cyanogen boot up screen. I even tried to flash 2.23.XXXX radio to see if it gets past the boot loop and it does not. Anybody have any insights into my issue?
Thanks,
You must go into recovery mode(boot up by holding down home + power). That will get you to Clockworkmod recovery(I am assuming since you said you downloaded using Clockwork app). From there you need to wipe cache, and anything else you can wipe. Then try installing Cyanogenmod after that. Without wiping the there is not enough space to install and it causes a bootloop.
I'm in the same boat, I'm stuck in a boot loop and I cannot get any ROM to fully load in. I'm using clockwork recovery Radio 2.22 32B.
I tried wiping everything but that still doesnt seem to work. I noticed when I try wiping Davlik cache I dont see any message on the bottom. I thought it would normally give me some sort of message stating that it is wiping davlik or something so maybe it isnt actually wiping it?
Is there some other way to make sure davlik is wiped? Or something else I can do. I just want the phone to boot up at this point. I can get into recovery but thats it.
I know I shouldve done a backup but dumb me was such in a rush I completely forgot, I know im a idiot...
Het I found that same .img file and also reverted back to 1.5 then just went up to 2.2 not sure what was wrong but Rom I put on just went into a boot loop. Maybe it was clockwork recovery.

the padawan becomes the master... Sort of...
The problem is that you cannot go directly to 2.2 from 1.5. You have to do the incremental upgrades that take you from 1.5 to 1.6 then 1.6 to 2.2

There is no longer a Factory Reset option in SD card & storage settings; what is going on with my phone?!!? AHHHHHHH!!!!!!
I called tech support and they told me an alternate way to perform the factory reset. Power Off, Hold Home+Power button for 20 sec, etc. Gonna try that and hopefully my phone will work properly.
Thanks for the help,

Sad story really. Factory data reset wasn't paying the rent and got evicted from SD card and phone storage settings. Now living under the Privacy settings bridge in a cardboard box. All because it couldn't be content with donuts and blew the the rent money on a frozen yogurt habit.

Wow. Creative!
Is there anyway to revert back to 1.6, or am I stuck with 2.2.1? I did the factory reset and the phone is running ok, but it ran much better before.
I'm having an issue with the browser.. My phone reboots when I open the browser and try to run a search, or while I'm typing in a website address. However, the phone is stable when I run searches or "go to" websites via the Google widget. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

I had exactly the same problem.
I was quite happy with the speed of 1.6. Got the OTA update to 2.2.1 and I have hated the phone since! Rang HTC to see if anything can be done and as usual no returned calls etc.
I ended up rooting it and using setcpu to get it almost back to how it was but it still has its issues.
I would put a custom rom on but I dont want to risk bricking it just yet.
Download this, rename it to update.zip (not update.zip.zip), and put it on the root of your SD card. Boot into recovery, do the factory reset from there, then select apply update.zip from SD card. Let it do it's thing. The problem is that you did the factory reset AFTER installing, doing it before is the way to go. The file is the official update, so you'll just be re-installing it.
@creative, your past the hard part. Just download/install ROM Manager from Market, select "Flash Custom Recovery", reboot into recovery, wipe, and flash whatever ROM you want. Or just do the above to get the 2.2.1 working better.

Do another factory reset and this time let it sit there (DON'T TOUCH IT!) for a solid 10-15 minutes after it gets to the sign-in screen. This is a very slow phone in the first place and there are all sorts of background processes and "thinking" going on the first time you boot up into new software.
I've flashed many roms on my old mt3g and this genuinely makes a huge difference. Try it.
Oh, and did I mention this phone is just slow in the first place? It is, and it has way too little RAM. Why on earth T-mobile gave us the 32B instead of 32A, I will never know...

Your not going to be able to flash the update.zip if your using CM 6.1, the install will just fail. You'll have to return the phone to stock using the stock sappimg, then apply the update. You will lose root, but you can get it right back using SuperOneClick. Nothing should happen to your phone unless something happens while its updating the radio, which is nearly impossible unless you pop the battery out or drop it or something of that sort during the update (same risk you run if you do the update OTA).
I had the same problem. Before I updated, I formatted the SD and wiped everything. I left the phone on the counter over night after flashing. 6 hours later and it was still pretty bad.
I just went back to stock and I'm going to try Gio's themed ota.
Edit: Gio's version is blazing. Just in case anyone was wondering.

Or you could rename the file to sappimg.zip and power the phone off and hold down the Volume Down + Power and press the Action button (which is just pressing the scroll ball) and it will take you phone back to your factory reset. Then you can root and install you ROM as mentioned above.

No you can't. That update depends on the 1.6 build. It's just patching the 1.6 build to 2.2.1, when your loading up a sappimg, it's looking to update all the partitions (e.g. SPL, recovery, radio, system, data, etc.). So, it won't work this way, and in reality, you should just get an error in hboot trying to run this as a sappimg.
Follow the advice on this attachment. My Magic was useless after update. While not perfect now, this helped a lot.

This thread is sad news to me.....I bought a mytouch last week on eBay expecting to do the froyo update to replace my blackberry 9700 that is having all kinds of issues after a few accidental drops. Sounds like I would be better off flashing it with one of the donut faster roms than going to 2.2
The stock rom provides stock performance and does work fine. Just need to wipe and give it time to finish running all the background processes to sync the Google bits.
I will say root and OC to 614 works wonders: I have been going back and forth between the 1.2 and Fender OTA ROM's making tweeks and have a stable, fast and battery effcient phone with both. Makes me wonder if other members coming from a CM rom or others with OC are basing a lot of their sluggish compliants (after the Google sync is done) from running at 528mhz.
Don't give up, just pop the hood and tweak to your liking.
Kind Regards,
Kevin

pretty much the stock rom is evil made my phone choppy even after a full wipe and i let it boot completely i had to root my phone and put a new rom on there i suggest cm6.1 its stable and good for new rom/root users
Edit:yes the mt3g is old and the fastest i ever seen it was on a rom that wasn't OTA (over the air) its from 09 give it a break. a few months left then i can get a new phone with more ram im almost off my contract lol

[GUIDE] Sprint sph p100 stock firmware RECEOVERY: last resort.

Ok i decided i post what i did to recovery my sprints tab from a bad kernel flash that i didn't install clock work recovery, I thought my tab was a lost cause which i even chatted with hsn were i bought mine at for a replacement which would've took up to 30days.. So awhile i wait for that i decided to try and get it working till i get the prepaid label lol
Matter what i did it kept getting stuck at the samsung screen and couldn't get into recovery but download mode work luckly. i tried all kernels listed and it still got stuck which at the time i thought my tab was bricked or semi brick.
What i did is keep searching for the stock firmware which was hard to find but i found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9753941#post9753941
Heres a direct link http://www.multiupload.com/WDKOUJSM2G
Thanks to ZoinksS2k for the tab sprint no modem firmware
And downloaded the stock no modem firmware the modem one is listed too but it will kill your gps and 3g might not work so i just did the no modem one.
So i downloaded it and odin was package with it and i couldn't get it to detect my tab in download mode ony when the tab was off it detected it..
So i tried heimdall and at first i couldn't get it to flash the start button was grayed out because i was putting the tar file into pda/code so i open the tar file and found factory.rfs param.ifs and cache.rfs and dbdata.rfs so i loaded all thoes in the heimfall boxes and than loaded the stock zimage which is in the tar too.
And than i flashed and saw the samsung screen and it went right pass it and played the samsung splash screen so i knew i was getting somewhere so it got stuck on the next samsung screen again.. So i turn it off and hold home button and volume up button than i push the power button and hold all 3 buttons till i saw the samsung screen and i left go the power button and the stock recovery loaded right up
So i did the wipe data/factory reset and i also did the wipe cache data just in case but im sure just the factory reset would work, And i restarted the tab and it went pass all screens and it loaded android!!! And everything was working 3g wifi gps and everything else.
So hopefully this guide will help others as a last resort if you ony get the samsung screen and download mode ony,If you get the receovery than just do the factory wipe.
This is worth a try first than sending it back to samsung and having to wait too get your tab back It sure saved me from having to send it back too hsn or samsung.
If you want you can thank me if this help you for providing the info
Gordesky,
Any idea how to go back to stock firmware + stock modem and all that from using the voodoo kernel? I have CWM Recovery 3.0 working.
Because, after going into Voodoo CWM Recovery, using wipe data/factory reset still keeps the kernel that I installed on - which is what makes my camera screwy.
If you want to go back to fully stock then follow his instructions and flash the stock kernel from the Zephyr thread. I actually am in the same boat as the OP and followed his instructions and now I'm fully back to stock.
Yep just do what I said which the tar file also have the stock kernel too.
Right now im on the voodoo kernel which works perfect except that cdrom problem but camera works for me so im gonna still with.this kernel so far. It seems the new sprint update doesint work right with the voodoo kernel problaby why I dont have any problems because I didint install the sprint update.
So when you go back too stock and want too give the voodoo another try dont install the sprint update when it asks you too, And everything should work other than the sdcard cdrom problems, Which I can deal with till it gets fixed because I do love the speed of this voodoo kernel
And the sound
Thank you gordesky1 for posting your experience because I was going through the exact same thing and I was at a loss as to how to resolve it. Unfortunately I did install the update but I'm pretty sure if I flash the same files again that I will go back to the original rom if that's necessary. The big problem with that is that the exchange fix in the update was something i was waiting for =\ so I think i'm going to wait and see if some of these issues are fixed in the next update but I wonder if we have to get Boushh a Sprint tab though =\ every day I curse myself for not getting a t-mobile or at least a Verizon tab *sigh*
No problem
Ya tell me about it... Bad thing for me is the sprint was my ony option which i got it because hsn were i bought it from had a flex pay on this tab which they ony have the sprint tab, and at the time i couldint pay 400 or 600$ right out. And i also got a 3years warranty on top of it from them even if i break it or drop it anywere which i pretty much got for free because they made a mistake at first with some software
The other tabs have cheaper 3g too like 5gb for 15 too 30$ a month.. But so far sprint is treating me good and the 3g has been stable so far and pretty fast loading webpages and can usely watch a youtube video but dont want too use up my monthy usage lol i usely use up too 500 too 600mbs max out of 2g and i useit every day and even download apps with it when im not near a wifi spot and listen too pandora too so i was suprized i didint get close too the 2gb limit yet.
Hopefully this thread will help more and save them from having too send it back too samsung or were they got it from, i know how it feels not having this tab which i use everyday at work.
I knew not to flash the modem from the restore package posted but when I tried to restore I used the .pit and the .tar. Failed at modem. So, being dumb I flashed the modem file. ugh.
Now I know all you need to do is flash the .tar, nothing else, no pit.
Your Post Saved Me!!!!!

Your welcome and glad it helped I figure it was worth posting sense it brought my tab back too life which i thought i would've had too sent it back and waited a month or so, And wanted others too get there tab back too life with out playing the wait game which i really hate .. lol

I flash the above .tar and .pit with Odin and I still can't get rid of CWM. I had CWM 3.0 working. Then I flashed a Kernel (Khasmek) with kernel flasher and the damn thing froze on the splash screen. So I odin and it doesn't do a full factory reset. CWM folder is still there. Does anbody know how to completely revert back to stock firmware?
I basically want to start over from scratch and never use Kernel flasher.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I flashed the zImage with heimdall and it still wont do a sprint system update and also I cannot do the cwm process again to format to ext4.

Check out the newly leaked EA24 flasher, it will update both system and baseband to EA24 and you will be able to update after that.
Thanks technote. I used the above and worked awesome!

okay, im farily new to the galaxy tab forums, only reason im here is because my friend bricked his tab and figured i could take a stab at it, i mean im good at fixing my galaxy s so i figured, how hard can this be. Wrong, my head is killing me because i cant figure this out. His tab is stuck in a boot loop mean it goes to the "samsung" screen and then stays there forever. I tried using odin with the stock firmware with no modem, everything went good but when it attemped to restart still nothing ? can someone please school me on how to do this properly please. Im a pretty good listener if im given descent instructions lol please by all means HELP lol

Phone won't boot :(

My galaxy 3 (apollo) came with 2.1, so I thought I would update to 2.2. I downloaded JPU from hotfile, the one that uses sampro.pl as password. Had odin set up with .ops, one package, nothing else checked. It flashes it and restarts a few times, then gets to the samsung logo which flashes, then it just freezes.
I have tried wiping the cache and factory reset. I tried JPS too (which I knew worked on my other phone - but that I upgraded from 2.2 to 2.2) but nothing seems to work.
Have I done something wrong?
I would suggest to flash your mobile once again
by following the instructions in the below link.

I hope it helps.
Somehow I got it working, I flashed Cyanogenmod and it worked, then wiped all including dalvik cache with cwm, still didn't work when I flashed froyo. So I removed sbl.bin and boot.bin from the .tar, tried and still nothing, then wiped data and cache one last time and on reboot it started up!
I had wiped the data and cache tens of times before and after flashing before, so it was either removing the bootloader or wiping the dalvik cache that made a difference. Only took all day to update my phone!
Try to get some different source for froyo....
I'm Glad you got it working again! next time you need stock firmware, use the one available in this forum by searching "stock jpu" the dev has removed the bootloaders and therefore it is much safer, and yeh as you've discovered, when it doubt, wipe the dalvik!
Hi
Yeah I did come across a thread where someone had removed the bootloaders, but all the files were either removed because they were on megaupload, or linked to JPI. I could have used that, infact I did connect it to kies at the start of the day and it said it could upgrade me to JPU. I wanted to do it by odin though! Then 12 hours later and trying countless other firmwares it worked. I just opened the .tar with 7zip and deleted boot.bin and sbl.bin, I had no idea if that would work or not!
It wasn't stuck in a boot loop so the bootloader couldn't have been corrupt? Perhaps it was the dalvik cache needed to be wiped from 2.1 to 2.2? I couldn't see anyway to wipe it with the stock samsung recovery.
Is CWM available for this phone? (without having to flash Cyanogen!)

CM7 is a aftermarket firmware, so it wont be available in the updates....and also, samsung wont give us this kind of good looking ROM anyways, flashing a ROM is a whole lot faster than updating through Kies or others...

Hi
I just meant is ClockworkMod available for the Galaxy 3. I noticed it was on my phone when I flashed Cyanogen Mod.
I have a Galaxy 5, the CM7 for that seems more complete, I noticed the camera doesn't work on the Galaxy 3 CM7. I thought they would both be about the same functionality.
In my case flashing a rom was slower as it gave me a bunch of problems, but yeah flashing is usually faster

Camera has been mostly fixed in CM7 and Galaxy 5 has been out for longer so devs have had more time. Anyway, all custom ROM's come with CWM Recovery.
I think you can install cwm for stock Roms..I have seen similar question in some thread posted here..which says your phone should be initially rooted to do this..
I am not sure abt the process..but as far as I know..you have to follow these steps :
download an app called as z4root..search in Google..its not available in market..
root your phone..it will ask two options to either root permanently or temporarily..go permanently..(you can unroot it I think so don't worry)
and finally you can try several custom kernals.. head over to development thread for that.I prefer fugumod kernal..take the tar file and flash it via Odin (safer side wipe dalvik as well as cache and reboot)
since its a stock rom ..you will not be having dedicated option to go for recovery, use volume keys, power button and the center button together..
bit of headache..
try at your own risk..or if I am wrong, please advice

Ah I didnt know the Galaxy 5 had been out longer. The camera didn't work when I used the latest CM7 for the Galaxy 3, when it took a picture it looked like a commodore loading screen But I didn't check gallery thinking about it, perhaps they came out alright

I rooted the phone with SuperOneClick, I think it worked! Anyway I gave the phone to my brother now and hes just interested in a working phone, not messing about with roms! I may get the phone again when it comes down in price again (you can get them refurbished in brand new condition here in UK)
Thanks!
