After all thr struggle I went through....I fiinally got my sgs running smooth. - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hey Guys!
After all thr struggle I went through....I fiinally got my sgs running smooth. Well this goes for all 2.2, 2.2.1 and 2.3.3 stock Roms.
1. All i did was use voodoo lagfix.
2. Install superuser from market.
3. Install root uninstaller
4. Uninstall all samsung apps eg. buddy, feed updates, dual clock, diary etc...task manager. All of them except samsung apps (u may choose to if u dont use it).
5. Now reset ur handset and enjoy ur super fast sgs.
I dont think sgs need any task manager or killer. If needed u may kill tasks from running apps in the settings. I dont think there are any issues with touchwiz or sgs as such.....but these apps are really crap. download apps from market. They all work awesome.
My sgs is currently on the 2.3.3 JVK Rom.

You could of saved a lot of effort and just cooked a Rom in the kitchen.
I've come from darkys rom to a custom cooked one from the kitchen and my phone is faster and more stable than ever.

De-odexing if anything will slow the phone down, but zipaligning can lower some memory consumption, so technically your phone may give better performance because of zipaligning (due to more mem being free).
/probably not noticeable though...

I've flashed honeycomb and, stock, this rom is faster than darky's
How I did it:
I'm using GT-I9000M so I need the 850, so prior to this, I've flashed theses modems, in order: JL2, JS8, JPD
Hard reset when still in Darkys
Disabled lagfix and all the optimisations
flashed JVK
Hard Reset again
And everything is darn smooth and stable, battery holds 3 days easy. Honestly, best rom as of now!

[Q] Custom ROM-s

What custom ROM would you guys recommend? That it has to be stable and fast goes without saying
Thnx in advance
I've tried Racht's ones.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914513
Currently I'm under Floyo (2.2.1) because there is app2sd working in this ROM but I think 2.3.2 CM HackDroid ROM is also a good ROM (I was using this before).
For the moment, I recommend you Floyo.
Both of them make your phone twice faster.
There still are some small bugs (as 3.5 jack or some sensors don't work) but these ROM still are in dev.
So be patient and in the future they will be better and better thanks to Racht's work =)
But be careful when you flash your device.
Be aware of the dangers and think to make a backup of your initial ROM before.
thnx, i'll give it a try. I'm aware of all the problems with custom roms. I was just wondering what the most stable rom was atm

Yes you loose all your apps and jit will be still enabled. Download floyo v0.10. First create in xrecovery backup of your current rom. Then extract floyo to sdcard /xrecovery/backup and reboot to xrecovery. in xrecovery do full wipe and then choose Backup and restore -> Restore -> floyo/ -> Yes and reboot phone

Racht's 2.2 I think is the best you can get for the X8. I was really afraid to install it, because I thought it would be buggy, but I was very surprised when I tried it. It's fast, stable and much better than 2.1.

help a noob

Hi i am new here and to new to android . I want to flash my xperia x10 form the stock software to 2.2 or higher. I have read most of the guides and am still unsure which rom and baseband to use. I am running Ubuntu 10.
thanks
I would suggest Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3, it's fast and stable, and looks nice =)
It is also easy to install since it needs baseband .54, which you can get it from the .435 stock firmware directly.

i would have to agree that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 would be the rom of choice. It is super stable and quite fast too.
You will need to root your phone, and then install xRecovery. Then you can install ROMS from the xRecovery menu.
Root using superoneclick and then copy the xRecovery APK to your phone and install it. Download the ROM files and copy them to your SD card, reboot into xRecovery and follow the ROM installation steps (backup all your stuff on your phone first - i suggest My Backup Root (from the market) - provided you have rooted it already). If you want to try different basebands, i have included a link for them too.
As for doing all this from ubuntu - i think you will need to be running a Windows VM or find another pc that has Windows installed, i tried from Ubuntu myself but it was just easier from a Winblows machine.

I'm also kind of a noob, but I really want to make this stuff work...
I took this thread as a base, I currently have the 2.1 official update on my X10. So far I used the superclick tool and it said it rooted my phone (how can I make sure it worked?)
Then I downloaded the stuff and run the xRecovery app, it said it granted some superuser thing, but then I see nothing else...
Any help appreciated, specially if I skipped some steps maybe?
if you want to check if you are rooted, intall titanium backup and see if the app runs. If it does, then you've got root.
I didnt get what you wanted to ask in the second part of your question though..
I was missing an app from the market
Ok I got it working
So far I'm testing this new stuff...woah, amazing.
Any recommendations of things (ROMs) I should try?
p.s. I got no signal and WiFi won't turn on... I guess this is normal?
@ aR_ChRiS and mrtim123
Second that Wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 is one of the most complete 2.2 roms. But you'll want to look up post on how to:
- root your phone
- install xRecovery (requires busybox), and how to use it
In case if you "brick" your phone or get stuck in a boot loop, look up for "flashtool".
Hope this helps.

How do you get it to the right setting? and someone told me it drains your battery. is this true?
Yes battery life isn't that great but acceptable for me.
~24 hours under medium usage
~12-15 hours under heavy use
You need to have your focus setting set to infinity to have better audio sync.
To be honest I don't think the camcorder is up to average user's standard, but camera works just fine.
Things I like from this rom are:
- improved performance (very few lags, things run much smoother than stock 2.1 especially when texting)
- android 2.2 apps & features (gmail 2.3, flash, JIT...)
- no random reboots
- the unlock slider does not lag after the screen is off for awhile
Known issues to my knowledge:
- incomplete camcorder
- no live wallpaper
In case you haven't noticed tho, devs here have figured out a way to bypass x10's bootloader. This will enable us to load custom kernels.
All the roms here before the breakthrough are only built on top of the stock 2.1 kernel. That's causing some limitations in developing custom roms (issues such as having a working driver for x10 camera)
So if u can wait for a bit I'm sure there will be better roms (with android 2.3) coming in the next couple months! And Sony has announced there will be official 2.3 upgrade coming possibly during this summer.
However I've been using wolfbreak's CM 6.1.3 for over a month now, would really recommend it if ur not that into video recording lol

Does this work if you've installed some skins, like the Crysis Sensation? I saw that someone said there could be some crashes etc if using TW4. Anyone noticed any problems?
As stated in title, stock jvk from samfirmware and no themes. Led fix and crt off animation the only add ons.
Totally smooth. 2 homescreens only and no fc's.
Not sure either but I used the first zip in the link and it might be deodexed. Still it is very nice.

hurray! but is it like the ACTUAL sgs2?
I update TW4 to the last version present in its thread, it's simply amazing, fast , smooth and beautiful, the best you expected from the new galaxy s II, the amazing thing is that work BETTER than TW3 on our galaxy S!
I suggest to try it, without doubt
It work fine on JVB, i use a deodex rom stock (made with kitchen ;-) ) with CF root 3.1 kernel
It work fine also with modd like 5lockscreen (but read the topic before try)
You can also continue to use crt off, glow scroll and other fix already installed.
before flash i suggest to put in SD card a "sos package" to use in case of bootloop so you can flash back to your configuration.
Also suggest to install alternative launcher you prefer, and DON'T check "use always" so if you got problem with TW4 homescreen, you can push back key, choose other launcher and maybe try some fix direct with root explorer (for example)
i hope you find my post useful!

Seems like it to me. Just like the tw4 clips on YouTube. Multitouch works perfectly and all widgets and screens act the same too.
To add more apps to dock you have to tap on apps icon. Then menu then edit. Then add the desired app icons like phone, messages, etc by holding on app and dragging it next to app icon as the rubbish bin is now in the usual area to add icons in tw3.
When installed tw4 it only has app icon in dock.
Took a while to work out. Ha.
Awesome launcher.
Was originally using gb launcher.

Thanks... i wann try
I use tw4 about 2 days now. It was in the Juwe's 4.2 rom i flashed...It is very nice, extremely smooth and seems to work nicely.
However it still has some bugs, you may experience fc's and even sudden reboots (did so once at me after it f.c.). Also as someone posted at another forum it seems to prefer RFS file system to ext4 (unknown why since SGS2 runs on ext4). I cant say so myself since i am on RFS too but any feedback on that would be welcomed.
PS: just a tip, if you want to install TW4 i recommend installing a rom with it, it seems to work better when roms are build around TW4 and not the other way around

Maybe not. I've installed on top of stock jvk not jvb and have had 0 fc's at all. 2 days running and no problems. Only thing that caused me grief was adding icons to dock but sorted that out...
You have installed a rom with it included and seem to have issues?
After reading 30 odd pages in the link I came to the conclusion that custom roms with tw4 included sometimes had issues so I added to my rom which is running rfs.
I reckon if you wanna try it and you're running stock jvk, go for it.
No need to do a complete rom.

Only issues that I know:
Device Encryption does not work and blocks the phone (you have to come back to original stock rom to be usable, the phone cannot boot)
Touchdown app does not sync calendar (but email works so I'm fine with it)
But battery life is awesome compared to stock one, is very fast and I you like TW like I do is great cause you will get TW experience with better battery and faster

Yes, device encryption is unfortunate...
I'd not turn it down if it worked... I decided to wait until ICS, and then see if the inbuilt stuff there works. If not, I'll have to figure it out.
But at the end of the day, I wouldn't release the rom like that, for one reason. Encryption is only good if you are using a secure rom. While VR is in many respects more secure than most ROMs due to using non public platform keys, it still permits root access.
Since exchange encryption is usually enforced by your IT admin, I don't think people should be using this ROM for work purposes to connect in, given it is rooted...
With root, you can just dump the data off the running system

this rom is working fine, faster and Launcher is so cool.. but you need to customize many things, because of china social capabilities and no gapps preinstalled...
no bugs at the moment... but is too early to say anything... =D
no gapps preinstalled - What does that mean & what are they?
It means that u have to install by youtself... XD
You can find a package here
use defy bootmenu to apply it and make u sure that have enought space on /system...

When you flash a SBF, it flashes the kernel too.

Thanks, but what a huge pain in the butt this is to accomplish. Especially if you don't remember all the key combinations for stock recovery and bootloader mode, how to enter cwm, then realize this wipes cwm (well maybe it doesn't, I couldn't find an easy way to run it) and you have to install droid2bootstrapper from your SD card as there is no market or any Google apps, then install Google apps via cwm, because the stock recovery won't accept it. Then you get a runaround with the kernels and rooting the darn thing, then the asshole won't accept my correct motoblur credentials, then you have to clean all the crapware using titanium backup pro, then you configure your google apps, reinstall all the apps you had previously and now you're done, not entirely sure if it was worth it...
Some icons are more refined in comparison to the earlier leak, and the radio seems a bit more stable, we'll see tomorrow in low signal areas.
I had problems installing google apps.
All in all I didn't think it was worth the effort - I'll wait till the English version comes out.
Quadrant - 1769
Linpack - 17.1 MFLOPS
Not bad.
any idea to insert "normal english" motoblur account? like twitter, facebook, bebo etc...
