HTC is going to improve Sense lockscreen & camera - Desire HD General

Hi there,
I've read this Dutch article about HTC is going to improve their Lockscreen and Camera software.
This article says they're gonna allow the users to add widgets on the Sense Lockscreen with widgets and that HTC is going to improve the camera app so you can easily take great pictures (without blur) of moving objects or people.
This is quite great news, imo!
So what do you guys think?

the screenshot is from windows mobile.. so are you sure its about android?^^

Haha correct. It is from Windows Mobile
But I think they're talking about Android version
Because it's the only platform that allows customization.
Let's hope the update will come asap

Hopefully we get those camera improvements in the Gingerbread update.

From the sounds of it, even thought the screenshot is from WM, it sounds like Android.

Those improvements mentioned in that article apply for the HTC Sensation. HTC are talking about instant picture snapping and the new lockscreen. So maybe this article is mixing the phones?

Maybe the person that put this together was in a rush..... :L
So, will we be seeing these new sense implements that is the question... but in saying that it does say that existing phones will get it, and ours being one of the high end phones at the moment... that means us... right?

Sense 3 Perhaps
These features sound like they may be coming in the new Sense 3 which the Sensation and others will launch with.
Hopefully sense 3 will be released in future roms for our DHDs. If not I'm sure some devs will cook them into roms for us.

HTC Hero interface

any chance to get it working on rhodium??
see the video...
http://www.macitynet.it/macity/aA38603/htc_hero_arriva_il_terzo_android_con_nuova_interfaccia.shtml
Nice interface, but I think it's a very long way off any hope of being ported for the Rhodium, and thats if anyone sees it as a great advantage. It would be a massive project.
Seems to be largely based on TF3D, just remoulded, and probably re-engineered. Looks a lot smoother, but then again it's only a video and they can make it look as smooth as they like! Certainly has all the trademarks of a HTC interface though....like a cross between TF3D and PointUI.
When is this device out anyway? It would be typical of HTC to announce a new one, only weeks after we've all forked out for our Rhodiums!
here's hoping HTC bundle something similar with their 6.5 update for the rhodium!
We shouldn't need to port it.
In a press release HTC have stated that the Sense UI will be rolled out across all HTC handsets, regardless of OS.
Check front page of my site in my link for more details (don't want to spam this forum as I like it here )
jeah i think the will develope it for win mobile 6.5 and android. so we can hope this interface wil come to our TP2

i hope so...but knowing htc i think the new interface will be available for new devices (devices released after the HTC Hero...)...i hope im wrong...
I don't think so, they have promised upgrades to 6.5 for diamond 2 and touch pro 2 owners (as part of the sales blurb) and i imagine this is their big push at doing something different, creating a consistent user interface throughout their range regardless of OS.
I think they really want to dominate and they're certainly doing a good job so far.
Now if only I could get flash working with the default browser...

yeah, I have checked it but it also say that it will be available on all new HTC devices moving forward this takes TP2 out of the loop as it is older. Unless they will plan it for the promised WM6.5 version ..
Either way if it's coming to newer devices I'm sure the geniuses here can work out a way to get it running on the TP2 without much effort
this Hero (HTC Sense) really really adorable
Tried android with Raphael, i love the new OS experience

15 and 17 February

Translated from Polish Android Website - edit cleaned up
Just as the topic is clear, has always been neglected by the owners of Hero HTC finally get an update. Why so late? Because it will not be updated for the Android 2.0 but straight to 2.1. Between 15 and 17 February, the update will be available for HTC niebrandowanego Hero - this update will include all of Europe. The problem, however, users can have the Era G2, a Hero brandowanego by Era, is unknown because the last update for them. We only know that for sure be delayed.
Information is sourced directly from HTC Poland, and therefore should be checked. In addition, we learned again that the HTC Magic no longer receive updates - Orange and HTC have not come to an agreement in Poland, in this case. And it was from Orange Magic update depends on Polish territory.
Which will update to the Android 2.1? Quote from Android Forums:
"-Android 2.1 is much faster.
-One interesting option is a preview of desktops. I do not know how to describe. You have the main screen. It uses the 2 finger zoom out as pages in your browser. Effect. Mixing up rozjeżdżają and have a brilliant idea.
-Icons are transparent envelope.
-At the bottom of the menu we have: phone, menu, contacts
-They added a nice transition when you quit the application and move around the options.
-Lock screen is not rounded.
Faster-running HTC keyboard.
-Added new widgets are HTC.
-Improved flashplayer. Operates smoothly.
-The modified program was gallery and media player. (Cosmetic procedures)
-And the rest of the news, which introduces a new android. (Market etc.)
-It shall be more RAM. about 130-140mb after killing the process. "
In addition, the same user advises:
"I also have one warning. Those who have changed SPL Hero may have problems with updating. The best return for this, which you had in the standard."
In addition, we learn also that the HTC Tattoo no longer receive updates (due to the weak performance of the device). But it is interesting that the HTC G1 and Android Tattoo 2.1 works quite accurately. Also, let's keep our fingers crossed tightly for magicians from XDA forums and our Android forum who will conjure up for us a drive.
This needs cleaning up NOW. I know you have stated that's its a translation but it just makes you dizzy with the repeated words.
Also without a link to the original article, a lot of people wont believe this.

Hero 2.1 after seeing Legend and Bravo

Hi:
I´ve seen videos presenting both the HTC Bravo and Legend with the expected Sense upgrade. I saw on Bravo home screen weather animation and animated backgrounds...as on the HTC HD2 while in Legend, static weather and static bakcgrounds.
Which one do you think we will get?
Legend kind...because of the mhz alikeness or Bravo style inspite the mhz differences?
Hoping it is Bravo....assuming it is Legend...
Maybe Bravo´s rom can be ported to Hero, I used to have HTC HD running HTC HD2 roms and it worked pretty good!!!!
Any comments?? Does anyone cares about this or just me?
Bye
i think that every 2.1 sense will be the same. and i just found that video of the legend WITH that animation (actually you can just see it for about 1 second) but it isnt static.
Cant wait to get all those new updates =)
Here's the link to that vid:
http://video.golem.de/handy/2836/praesentation-von-htc-desire-und-legend-auf-dem-mobile-world-congress-2010.html
Yes, you are right, I saw the weather animation....bad luck...no wallpaper animatin.
Well...something is something...!!!!
WTF is up with all those videos????
They are all the same. Is it really soooo interesting to see someone flip through the home screens? Didn't it occur to some reporters to also check other features and bugfixes (like the one where you can't select text in a website with the trackball). Now, you could say it's because the home screen has most of the new features. Well I beg to differ. If that's really all they have now, why the **** did it take them so long? If it's 2.1, there must be 2.1 features of which these guys could show the Senese UI integration.
I have just seen a danish interview with a talks person from HTC saying 2.1 sould be out for the Hero 1. april
I'm seriously getting annoyed by either htc, who doesn't announce properly, by the local divisions that announce too much ****, or the press and users doing that...
I had a look around on some videos.
It looks like the legend sense 2.1 does not have the voice to text feature but the desire does! (Looking at each keyboard)
Its sad that they took out some of android 2.1's features. (Hopefully im wrong)
Also noticed that there is an editable dictionary with sense 2.1.
I hope HTC will not start marketing by disabling software features like Nokia does. I hope thatthe only difference, usability wise, betwen Legend, Hero and Desire will be screen resolution.
I would consider very much about buying thesetwo new phones though, they will probably not release updates on time just like with Hero, for the same marketing reason.

do you think we will get the new sense with LEAP

was watching a HTC announcement video and spotted the new leap feature (amoungst other things) that is coming on the hero and the desire, do you think this new sense will also come to the HD2 or the HD2 Mini ?
and if it did would it be portable to our devices ?? (please don't pick on me, i am only asking)
Well, our Sense is different from Android Sense. They have different homescreens where they can add widgets. Ours is predefined and (IMO) better laid out. Leap was meant to switch between those homescreens, whereas we can just slide over really quickly!
So, in brief, no.
However, if I may hijack this thread, any chance we'll get friendstream?!
That would be nice to have .... that is one thing I like about the entire Sense for 2.1. I am possible getting a HD2 next week through T-Mobile so I would love to see this in a future Sense update for WM.
Hi,
Well HTC announced that new Sense would be available with new Android devices and would also be available as an update to other Android devices and didn't mention WinMo. Now, as they are selling WinMo products that have an unknown future with Microsoft I'd like to think that HTC will be providing updates, including sense, to keep their WinMo line fresh before Windows Phone 7 becomes available. Alternatively they might drop Sense development on WinMo like a stone as they wont be alowed to sell it on Windows Phone 7 Series anyway (unless they can get away with a Sense Hub). I think that perhaps all HTC's interface imagineers will perhaps be working on Android from now on to be honest. I am not always right tho
Like most things on this forum regarding future developments, I don't know for sure. No one does.

Nice find. personaly i think that the sensui makes the phone slower. But can't wait to see gingerbread
I dont think its really going to change much..its just going to make the decision for getting a custom UI more difficult since google is improving androids stock UI. Also, from what I've read they should be doing updates through the market after gingerbread so wouldnt that make it easier for the custom UI'ed phones to stay updated?
I read that article this morning and it just annoyed me. First of all, Google aren't going to stop manufacturers applying their own skins, I can still see HTC using sense and maybe motoblur/TouchWiz (eurghh) but there's still going to be a hell of a lot of phones/devices out there running stock UI that will benefit from this, including us Nexus users...
Secondly the author shows a lack of knowledge in saying that Microsoft couldn't do this because of Sense on Mobile 6.5 - are they aware that Windows Phone 7 is not allowed to be skinned?
Hopefully part of this UI refresh will focus on making Android work on tablet sized devices, as stock looks a bit odd on such large screens.

I agree, looks like the author is more interested in making a bigger deal out of this that it really is. He is really stretching it too trying to compare Apple and their closed system vs Google improving their UI to make make it more user friendly

no pun intended?
I stopped reading that crap when the article said "programmers risk being 'Motoblur' programmers or 'Sense' programmers. I'm pretty sure if he had any knowledge of the Android OS, he'd know its all ANDROID!!! What the **** is wrong with these iPhone fanboys
It's ridiculous how easily things are misenterpreted and misreported.
What was actually said:
"We're gonna focus on making gingerbread pretty and cohesive"
How it was taken:
"We're gonna actively prevent mfgs from adding their own UI's, we're gonna lock down android, and we're gonna start stealing babies"

FOUR HUNDRED BABIES. WE WILL STEAL FOUR HUNDRED BABIES.
minus a few widgets, a pretty wallpaper, and a different launcher.... sense is (and all other blur's and wiz's) basically the same as the "vanilla" android experience... isnt it?
Dont see how this is going to change much. Except for making android more pretty... which sounds good to me!
Sense runs pretty deep.
i must be one of the only one's who dont get all the complaining about the android UI is inconsistent and not cohesive etc. i just dont see that. for example, no matter what app you go into the settings screen looks identical all the time. a long black list with checkbox options for on and off. how is that inconsistent?
Android UI really does need a refresh. Just all the grey boxes, lack of nice gradients, neon greens and bad shapes and no transparency or reflections or anything to make it look 'shiny' really make the platform appear dated. Sense has a go at fixing these things but it only does a good job on the surface and they are still all there as soon as you open something not built for sense. I'm hoping Gingerbread fixes all this!

Exactly. That's what Google is trying to stop, these deep reaching UI and OS overhauls. Motoblur, the AT&T Backflip aside, isn't as invasive and therefore doesn't have the same problem. How many apps don't work because of Sense? 5-10% of my apps (aside from Launcher Pro) have some kind of warning against sense issues.
I don't think this will extend to launchers, as those are fairly easy to swap out, and the article stated that wasn't the point. I hope this means we'll actually get some official skinning support, so we don't have to deal with stuff like flashing themes or metamorph. Make it easy, make it modular, make it open. Isn't that the open source goal?
