[Q]Wifi performance - Blade General

I'm aware that orange san francisco doesn't support N, only B and G which is a pity but i would like to ask some people who're using its wifi to tell me how does it work performance wise? fast? normal?
this is my last inquiry before i actually buy zte blade because if it doesn't suit me then i can just invent 120 CHF (~140 USD) and buy a better phone...

It does work preety quickly. I am using CyanogenMod RC4 and it does a great job when it comes to browsing the internet and it's ok when downloading things too. It always connects without a problem, but, when on wi-fi it, does eat the battery up preety quickly, but every phone does that.

Go for the purchase, I have 2 OSFs on both FLB-Froyo & CM7 Final & they both have brilliant performance with WiFi when connecting to save money on mobile data costs or using Android Manager WiFi for phone management.

WiFi is pretty good on CM7 and Swedish Spring Rom's (new wifi drivers) and mine always connects fine 1st time

Best HTC Ever - Trinity ?

Hi....Just wondering, because my contract with o2 just finished and I was looking for a replacement for my XDA Mini S...and what's the best phone for me now . I'm looking for a 3G phone, with built in GPS, WiFi, fast processor and good looking one (for my pleasure only, not to show up ;p ), which fits into pocket and, and, and...I was thinking about XDA Orbit, XDA Trion maybe (no GPS, but 400 MHz, 3G etc)....but then, hey, HTC Trinity...Guys do you know, that you have probably the best phone ever made ? 3G, Video Calling, GPS, 400MHz (which can be overclocked - 500MHZ probably !), WiFi, great shape etc. 99% decided to get it with Orange now). Anyway just want to ask about some things...:
1. GPS. I'm using it a lot now (with my Mini S, external Bluetooth GPS). Found some threads about it, looks good, but if you can rate it - 1-10 please (does it loose the signal, reconnecting time etc, all together). And do you need to subscribe to any Orange GPRS packets etc. for using the GPS (like in Nokia N95, you need to pay £50/year to use build-in GPS) ? I'm gonna use different GPS software, not the one provided by Orange...
2. Battery drain. Practically. Cause I'v changed my Mini S ROM to a custom WM6 and the battery hold much, MUCH longer. Any problems with this phone ? Maybe not the phone, but software and how it handles the CPU and RAM usage (I'm gonna probably change the ROM to a custom WM6 anyway).
3. Are there any "-" of it, cause it looks great, as I said .
Thanks for any help.

that is..if you like slideout keyboards . otherwise the Trinity is one of the best devices produced by HTC (in my opinion).
Yes, I agree.... except for the lack of a macro function on its camera (à la HTC Prophet) the Trinity is a very competent all-rounder
After much searching since my First Trinity was run over by a car, I ordered one more - a white one. Nothing else has all of the features that are important to me. I actually hoped to find a new device that fit my needs but there is still nothing else!
Having said that, I was not happy with the black coating peeling TWICE. Sent it in for repair and it peeled again.
Ordered white. I have a black case to hide my shame.
It's the best looking HTC phone.

Where did you find a white one? Did it come with the GPS active?
Smart Mobile Gadgets got one (or more) in. Got it today. The white is pretty cool. I don't like it as much as my black one but it isn't an eyesore like I thought it might be.
It has a ROM dated in March 07. GPS active and Tom Tom CD in the box. I have 64 Mb free mem and it won't install. I'll figure that out later
Its the best PDA I've owned.
Looks good, nice size and most importantly works well.
Mine can be a littleslowwith some applications, but #I think the problem is due to the type of mini SD card I've installed my applications on.
The GPS function is great. Once you tweak it a bit, it will work as well as any of the stand alone devices.
Only downside is that HTC and the service providers are looking very reticent about issuing a Windows Mobile 6 Rom.
XDA Flame
If or when this comes out I think it could be a great handset ... apart from that I really like my M700, apart from the fiddling around to get Phonepad back, much better than my old M500
1. GPS works a dream. Was a bit worried about the Qualcomm chip - but despite it being apparently less sensitive than a SIRF III I get great results and have never had a problem. TTTF 2 mins maximum. You do not need subscriber services for GPS to work. although A-GPS is network dependent (quicker fix by downloading satellite info from your GSM provider). I recommend Tomtom - it's the best I've tried - and as long as you have 6.0.3 it recognizes the interal GPS as Internal GPS device instead of other NMEA device. 2.Battery drain not a problem - especially since the WM6 cooked ROMs for trinity have come out - a dream! 3. Only plusses for the Trinity. Especially if you get it from Orange (white) coz the only - about the Trinity is the paint peeling issue - which can be resolved like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307949. Go get yourself a Trinity today!
I still own a HTC Prophet and got a Treo 750v a few weeks ago.
The Prophet has a lot of things that I really like and the Trinity has the same specs, with a faster processor and GPS off course..
But what I like about the Treo is that it handles the phone functions superb! As well as ergonimics of the device.
The only thing I really miss is the options to tweak my device as much as you can with the Prophet/Trinity. I guess that this is caused by the facted that Palm is aiming at real business users and HTC is aiming at a more general market.
So if my Prophet died and I would have to buy a similar device I'd choose the Trinity without a doubt, but for now the Treo wins this match as far as I'm concerned
Thanks for your answers...anyway decided to get O2 XDA Orbit instead and wait for something with some more RAM . Gonna get it on Monday, play around....and who knows, maybe I'll switch back to Trinity.

Big wifi limitation on sg ii !

Hi there
I found a BIG limitation in the SG II Wifi.
The problem is that: the Wifi class on the SG II is N but each time you try to put it online, getting a signal from your router, your MAX wifi speed connection will be ALWAYS at 65mb/s
(off course my router support WiFi N and i perform a check also on other routers from friends of mine having, finally, the same result)
Now i'm running the custom rom from LitePro (K8 kernel based) and this problem still there.
I presume it is only a software limitation and not an hardware limitation.
Can someone find a solution? Is it maybe necessary to modify the apks that make the Wifi work like we did with the camera sound?

Interesting. How are you calculating the connection speed?
@wifi-settings, click on the connected network and the shown mbit's will never be over 65... And in the app: overlook fing (nice network tool) will say the same.
Why would you need 600 Mbps on a mobile phone?
I have an dual N band router too but seriously on my phone I don't see the point of more them 20 mbps...

If i pay a phone 600 euros and who made it tell me that the Wifi is N so i WANT a WiFi N because my money are real money, not charms
I a lot more concerned with battery life and wifi range on my G2 then how fast it goes
I noticed when I use G instead of N the range seems be increase.

Unfortunatly i think that the battery problem is a tecnology problem: you have what you can have from this kind of tecnology, we can just make it a bit better but to have a reasonable time of charge we need a new kind of battery tecnology, compared to what the actual phone SLCD and Amoled screens ask to work .
Make sure you are on a channel without other APs.
To the OP, find an Android mobile phone that connects at a higher data speed than 65-72 Mbps and then come back with another dramatic thread.
Can you guys please do some research before making these dramatic threads?
Have u guys seen any difference in real life use ?
Forget about the numbers .
I always do video chats and works great.

This is the expected speed of 802.11n on a small device.
QAM-64 modulation delivers at most 65-72Mbit/s on devices without MIMO. A cell phone will not have MIMO capability for cost and size reasons (requires several antennas).
No vendor provides MIMO wifi chips for cell-phone usage, so even if you tried you would get rotten battery life and a huge cell phone as the MIMO chipsets are designed for having mains power or laptop batteries, and the antennas need physical separation.
This assumes 20 MHz channel. 11n does allow for a 40MHz channel, but you will never get this in practice on the 2.4GHz band as the standard requires devices to look for interferers in the band and back off to 20MHz channel for a long time if they see any. Given how crowded the 2.4GHz band is you will always see interferers hence you will always be forced to use 20MHz channels.
Search for 802.11n-2009 on wikipedia. (I'd post the link but the forum will not allow it)
Nevermind wifi speed. I used to get good signal sat in bed with my sgs 1. With this one I get 1 bar or no connection at all. Sometimes if i turn the phone I get enough for it to resume a download.
Fair enough 1 bar gives suffient speed but it drops completely
I've tried playing with channels, changing n/g to just g etc but the signal is just weak. Nothing changed with my router, my old phone got 2/3 bar signal, my wife's HTC desire gets 2. The laptop full bars.
I'm hoping this will be fixed in a firmware update some time.
Shame cus otherwise I love this phone. (Although bit miffed with Yamaha instead of wolfsen sound, hope they release version with wolfsen. Or sgs3 )

Well in theory you should get better range with n chipset (though some are reporting the opposite!)
So you pay more money to get N and with it better range and slightly better throughput than G ?

Same with me. Witn iPhone 4 I had 2 bars and good connection, with SGS2 I am forced to switch off wifi and using 3G instead, because no more than one bar of signal and I can't open any web page. I just ordered Netgear WN3000 repeater and I hope it will help me to increase the signal, but I will have more antennas in my bedroom to frying my small brain

Is it just me os is the wifi awful on TF?

I have had my TF for six weeks now and I have to say that my experience with the wifi connection is awful. My eeepc picks up loads of signals that the TF does not see and I have lots of connection problems when I travel. I have read that this is to do with USA channel restrictions which if true is bulls**t as i bought the TF in the UK and travel in Europe! For a non three G tablet wifi is essential.
Is there anything that can improve the wifi performance?
Actually I am finding it seems to beat my iphone, ipods, iPad, and my wife's Dell laptop. Saying that because when I sat in the living room with my iDevices I pretty much couldn't connect to the router all the way across the house period, it would connect but basically be worthless. My wife's laptop is almost hte same, she gets crappy speeds in the living room. I find that my Transformer shows like a 65% signal in the living room and I get great speeds. My Playbook while I had it for 2 weeks also was noticabely better at connecting to my router and speed from the living room.
My gut says to get ahold of another TF and try it. You may have a defective unit.
I've had no problems with wifi on mine. Admittedly, I am in the US.

Actually the Wifi on my TF is has a better range then my notebook which has a intel 5300. My router is sitting downstairs in the living room, and I am able to stream (Plex) to my bedroom which is one floor above.

I agree.
I had the GTab, the Archos, the Elocity A7, twice the Nook Color, plus the MyTouch and Samsung Galaxy S phones... and my TF has the best wifi connectivity of them all.
It connects quickly and stays connected. Today, in fact, I had to go to a local hospital and the TF connected automatically to the hospital's open wifi without my intervention.
mine is nearly flawless, but remember your not gonna see 5ghz signals because the TF is 2.4 only
My router is on the second floor of my house & I have no issues in my basement.
I'll be traveling next week so it might be a different story in a hotel.
agreed my TF is far better than my htc phone in wifi connectivity
Mine is good enough, but I did notice a bit of a dropoff in signal strength from the wifi driver in 3.0 to the driver in 3.1.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
The TF seems to favor some router channels over others. Try changing channels ( take it off auto).
My wifi actually worked very well on STOCK but now that i am on custom rom, it is much worse...
Before, i got very high signal from my router but it is not more the case.. I am waiting for on update of the wifi version....
It is not just your Tablet. No need to RMA at all.
The radio in the Transformer is just not that good.

My experience with custom ROMs is from mixed to poor... something always breaks. I would go back to stock.
Since updating to HC 3.1, my wifi has been horrible. Actually, it seems to get worse after every update that asus has pushed. It's not really an issue at home but when I'm at work and I can't move closer to the router, it's a problem.
It used to be TF 3.0 >> iphone 3gs > dell mini 9hackintosh with Leopard OS
now, Dell mini 9 snow leopard > iphone >>TF 3.1
I haven't had any issues with reception. It had a weird connection issue when trying to access my friend's tethering (unrooted, he pays Sprint for it). But I think it was actually the software one one end or the other, not the actual device.
I have a UK TF too and my wifi works brilliantly.
So far i have used it in UK, Germany, Switzerland and Czech and haven't had any troubles.
I set the router to channel 13, and my HTC Desired picked it right up, but the Transformer didn't. I then reduced it to channel 12, still no luck - then i reduced it to 11 and then the Transformer could see it.
Use the 'WiFi Analyser' app to check out the best wifi channels available in your area and to ensure that you aren't using overlapping channels from other equipment and neighbouring signals.
You'll be surprised when you see that the 'auto' selecting wifi hardware will almost always select the same channels which just get overloaded with interference.

Should I buy a Nexus 10?

I'm looking to buy my first tablet. Either getting the Nexus 10 or waiting for the new Nexus 7.
How's the Nexus 10? How's your experience been? Regrets?
What are the cons? How are custom ROMs & the dev community?
Thanks!
I think I prefer the 10inch form factor.
Most usage is for watching movies, reading, games, browsing the web.
I am eagerly waiting for the n7 as well, I already have a n4 and a n10 and love them both so much I actually want a n7 too but find iit hard to justify.
As far as I am concerned, the n10 is awesome. It's too big for a pocket, but it's useful. I use mine as a notebook at school (evernote and bluetooth keyboard), to watch movies in bed, read magazines, everything. I bought it thinking it'd be a gadget, but I actually use it as much as my computer now.
Custom ROM's and community are the best you'll find, anytime you get a Nexus device. It's got AOKP, AOSP, CM10, and all sorts of others.
Big thing is, its 3-4 lines in a command prompt and a factory wipe to enable all the awesome things.
I love mine, even though I have it in for an RMA right now.
Are there any issues with the N10?
Yes , alot of them
If you are unlucky to get one like me
- battery screen on, last 5 hours ( gaming - 3 hours ) all this with 30% brightness settings
- hdmi not working ( i need to go to the service )
- screen bleeding
- 10 point touch not working well - what passes 2 point finger becoming instable
- usb hdd not working if you dont root your device and put ktmanta kernel
- nfc problems
- 5ghz wifi problems
Etc.
Good luck ! Google its a dissappointing company and second , samsung dont giveca **** on your need for make the product better . ( no pogo cable )

Battery life won't be a huge deal to me because I'm using it at home and charge it all the time.
Does everyone have screen bleeding?
Can you further explain USB HDD? Can I mount a flash drive? I must use a custom kernel to do this?
What do you mean wi-fi problems? What kind?
- Charging the device takes 6 hours . i live in Romania and even now after 1 month after buying i cant find a local shop who has the famous unoficial pogo cable that shorthen the charging time to 4:30 / 5 hours
- usb hdd that i have its wd passaport 1gb . if i use trinity, franco, stock aokp etc kernels it shows that is connected and after shows only that its there not be able to browse stuff on it . if i use ktmanta kernel , it works but only if i am above 30% of battery and even like that there are sometimes problems with reboots . flash drives are ok to use in every circumstances
- i get freq dissconect with 5ghz wifi lines
- you can get used to bleedings because there are not vissble when its an image on the screen that its not black but still .... Samsung its samsung ive espected that this proboem will not be no more ... Its about the screws that are not tighten well or at least this is what i think .
I dont like to be lied ... Google and samsung and many of the reviewers have lied to us that this its a perfect device ... So i buyied beacuse i had trust in them .. Now i very pissed off and i m not the only one ...
The device cost too much for me for what it offers + lies . shure you will hear good oppinions but how about the people who byied the units with problems from google that you sended back for a RMA. they are sell them again to people that are having good trust ... Ugly comportament from a giant like google.

[Q] An advice for a new L7 and several questions

Hi guys! First of all - moderators, please excuse me if I'm breaking the rules - I'm only a reader in this forum and I have never posted here a new topic, so if there is something wrong - sorry about that.
I want to buy a new replacement phone for my Samsung Galaxy Spica (i5700). I've been using this phone for 3 years now, it has bugs, lags and so on. The biggest problem with it is the battery life - barely one day with 2 hours of Wi-Fi browsing.
I don't have money to buy an expensive phone - simple as that. My budget is very tight - only 150-170 EU for a new android device. I like a lot the LG L7 model, but I have several questions:
1. Can I get 2 days of battery life with 2 hours of Wi-Fi daily (or 3G)?
2. Does it lag with ICS or JellyBean? I will barely play games, mostly browsing, viber, skype, documents, music.
3. How does the GPS perform? I mean does it work well on the road or it doesn't? My Galaxy Spica has a nice sensor, but the phone is becoming very slow for the newer Sygic and NAVIGON apps. Does L7 work well with GPS apps or not? GPS is important feature for me.
4. Can I buy a bigger battery for L7 and do I need it?
5. What accessories can you suggest me to buy with the phone? (please, not expensive ones) Do I need screen protector or silicone/plastic back case?
6. Is the problem with the apps2SD serious? Does every L7 phone have it or not? When I buy a phone how can I check out if the apps2SD is working? If it isn't, can it be fixed? And if it can be fixed, do I have to install custom ROM? Can I fix it with stock ROM?
7. Is the single core processor a big problem? What's your opinion?
I have bolded the most important questions. Please, I want to buy a new phone, but I don't know a lot of things about hardware and android. I have used 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 CyanogenMod for my Galaxy Spica and I'm not afraid of experiments, but I want the important things (apps2SD, GPS, camera, music, Wi-Fi/3G) simply to work, because with my Spica I have problems now.
Do you think that it would be a wise decision to buy L7 and stick to it untill the end of next year (2014) or to by another phone? What do you think guys?
Thank you for your considerations and for reading my looong post! Cheers to all of you!
Well, i am a half-a-year L7 user and i think this could be my opinion about this phone.
1.the batery least long, at least for me, using wifi for a couple of hours and some music with brightness at 15-20% least almost a day (literally 20-24 hours)
2.there's almost any lag lag on JB, on ICS runs fine (i've got 708g and the only rom is carrier and it's full of crap, that reduces the performance), but honestly is not any god for gamming, it only runs some gameloft games and gta III with some lag, i can't say more because i only tried this ones, it works really smooth with office and opera, it even runs flash in some pages.
3.the gps works god, ive only tried the maps apps, so i don't tell nothing about navigon, but with the gpu trick it might be runs smooth
4.the battery itself it's big, at least at my concern, it's 1700mA, and no, unlike some xperia model's, you can't change the battery to a bigger one.
5. i recomend to buy a case for the phone (the silicon one is fine) and the screen protector, if you can bought a holster clip, that would be perfect, because is stronger and it resist better the falls
6. the internal sd is 4 gb (2.7 gb really) and as i dont use heavy apps i only use the internal as apps storage and an external to save my music and photos, if you're not using heavy app (such as games like asphalt 7) the internal is fine for you
7. so far i'm kinda happy with the performance (as i say the only rom for P708g is carrier), but i've tryed the stock v10k and v20a (open europe) and it runs very well
I wish that this could help'd you, if you ask me, i will told you to bought it, specially because of the new born scene (CM10, MIUI,etc...) and the stylish desing.
Thank you for your fast and complete answer to all of my questions! Cheers!
I have one favor to ask you - if you have the time, of course, could you try the GPS in some GPS applications like Sygic, Navitel, Navigon just for me to see if there are any problems. Google maps uses internet (Wi-Fi/3G) which means that the GPS would work fine, but what about if you turn the internet off? Is it flexible and fast or not?
I would appreciate it if someone can share some GPS experience with the L7.
You said that the battery life is around 1 day? Are you sure? This isn't what I was expecting. I thought that with 2 hours daily Wi-Fi or 3G always on the phone can last up to 2 days. Do you have a lot of apps or widgets? Because I won't buy a phone that lasts 24 hours with 3G always on. It's just pointless for me, even if it is Galaxy SIII or Galaxy SIV
Another question - is it easy to find an original replacement battery for the L7?
Can you give me a link to the accessories you are referring to? Is there a car stand suitable for this phone? What does a "holster clip" mean? Sorry but I've never used to have a phone case before (dropped my galaxy spica 30-40 times, nothing happened to it, just scratches on the plastics)
I didn't quite understand what do you mean in answer 7 - "the only ROM is carrier". What does this mean?
Wish all of you a good day! I will write in this topic if some new answers arise for me
