[Q] Upgrading soon! What next? - Vibrant General

I called Tmo today and they told me I was eligible for a full upgrade. I found it weird because I just got my Vibrant in July last year. Anyways whats the best phone out there now? I hated my vibrant until I flashed it. Now I want to move away from vibrant. So what do you guys recommend? Should I just wait for the summer phones like the lg optimus 3d? Thoughts?

Just wait, and you could trade your vibrant on Craigslist for the time being

I'd say wait too.
T-Mobile® G2x™ with Google

Considering there is a high probability of AT&T getting the green light from the government to buy Tmobile, I wouldn't get locked in to a contract if I were you. Even though AT&T says they will honor our contracts, they have no obligation to provide services like 3G, which most tmobile phones don't support ATT 3G bands anyway. So if you upgrade don't expect the new phone to have 3G in a year.

I'm waiting for the Pyramid at the very least.

I'm waiting for a dual core, 4.3'' screen with Hdmi out, a ffc, flash or maybe the Samsung Galaxy II
Also Verizon is sounding attractive as well if that $50 unlimited voice and text goes through.

Wow!!! Really? $50 unlimited voice and text? Does that include data?

Amazon Electronics Trade In

Hey guys, with the upcoming 3D coming out, I thought some of you may find this interesting. Amazon has an electronics trade in program where they will pay up to $187 for a white evo and $114.50 for a black evo. They won't pay actual cash, but will give you amazon credit (which if they sell the evo 3D, then who cares). I know you can probably sell it for more thru ebay, craigslist, etc, but for those who just want to get it done with, here's an option.
Here's a link to the evo page on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/s/r...nics-tradein&field-keywords=evo&Go.x=0&Go.y=0

anyone who does this is a moron when you can get much more money selling it yourself via craigslist or ebay

Is there a catch? Like you have to buy another Sprint phone? Or can I just bring the Evo in, drop it off and walk out with $150?
I'm looking to switch to AT&T and this would cover my ETF with some cash left over.

Now I am leaning towards the S II and it appears AT&T will have it but not so sure about Sprint. Plus on my Evo 4G, Wimax is great when I can get a decent signal, but keeping the connection has been a problem (e.g. in car or more than a few feet away from a window).
I had AT&T previously and never had any significant service issues. But I have no idea what type of HSPA+ speeds I'll get or if the connection holds any better than Wimax.
I will probably just wait until after the 3D and S II are both launched and see the reviews on performance.

Yes, you only get the $150 if you are upgrading. I tried to sell my phone to them, and they said I must be upgrading to a new phone.

I thought it was already leaked that Sprint is gonna get it? It's supposed ot be called the Within.
On another note, I just checked the Amazon Trade In program on the 19th and the black EVO was valued at $209. It freaking dropped in price like a mofo. I guess it was a mistake or alot of peeps started trading them in already getting ready for the 3D.

when the evo dropped last year, Best Buy was selling the hero for $29 (the phone I had just paid over $150 for with an upgrade). talk about being sh**ted on (got hero in January, got Evo the day it released)
Not sure about phones, but I am planning on selling 2 of my old digital cameras I have laying around. Amazon cash is just as good as real cash in my house.

They'll take it away even if you already have it if you switch phones. Apparently that's what they did to me on my bill so I'm going Saturday to go see what the deal is. If they won't fix it, then I'll probably end up switching to Sprint.
If I have helped you don't hesitate to use the thanks button, you won't be charged for using it

I can say that Verizon has no coverage where I live within about a 4 mile radius, while Sprint does. After taking away my unlimited data when I switched the devices on my lines, still smartphones btw, and after the rep claimed my plan would stay intact, I now have a 2 gb cap and am paying $45 for each line rather than $20 for each line with unlimited data with a discount I had. Sprint launches early upgrade promo

In an industry where customer churn can be likened to the fearsome troll under the bridge, Sprint has launched a program designed to keep its favored subscribers around for another two years. While not everyone is eligible -- those who've upgraded less than eight months ago, corporate outfits and those in collections need not inquire -- the program lets customers buy their way out of their current commitment and become eligible for a new, subsidized handset. The promotion begins February 12th and is set to run through the 14th of April, where the amount you pay correlates to the time since your last upgrade. So if you're currently pining for the Epic 4G Touch or the iPhone 4S, just give your local Sprint store a call this Sunday. They just may be able to hook you up.

And you know why sprint is offering this? Because they have no plans on releasing any new devices any time soon. So appease their customers, they're giving option to cheaply upgrade...... My theory Anyway

Probably because people like me, who have a family plan and are getting a discount through work, are able to cancel this month with no ETF fee.
They are probably launching this to lure those people who might leave to stay with Sprint.
I'll soon be saying goodbye to my trusty EVO 4G and picking up a free Galaxy S II on T-Mobile tomorrow.
Unfortunately there isn't really anything worthwhile to chose from. I'd rather wait until after some LTE phones are out.

Too little too late IMO. Sprint is losing tons of money. The only reason I stay with them is unlimited data, and when my contract is up in 2 months they better have the Sprint Nexus out and give it to me for a very good deal.
Verizon has better coverage, fast LTE and the Nexus - Sprint need to compete with that for the tons of people who were original Evo4G customers.
But the Verizon Nexus will not be capable of roms compiled from source due to CDMA support from Google being pulled (same as sprint), as per my understanding.

My kingdom for a Sprint Nexus.
This article seems to have went away..Anyone know where some info is on this? the link in the OP doesnt go anywhere but to the main site page now.
While the Nexus seems great, you have to be anxious for possible lte phones from sprint like the HTC Zeta (drool), HTC Edge, and the Sammy Galaxy SIII.
It is possible that Sprint will pick up at least one of these Q2 in 2012. After MWC we should know more.
I have been with sprint almost 20 years now, and 2 years ago they hooked me good with the Evo. Man I hope they get an equal replacement for everyone who purchased one 2 years ago and is ready for an upgrade.
It would be cool to have a phone as powerful as my Transformer Prime, and with better wifi....lol

I really hope that's not the truth. I'm excited to hear what the specs of the next EVO are going to be.... hopefully a quad core with a 4.5-4.65 in screen. That's the only way I'm going to use my upgrade.
*Edit*- And of course LTE.

Personally I think it has to do with Sprint's network. My tinfoil hat theory is that they don't have the cash to upgrade their network to keep pace with the other carriers so they're trying to lock people into contracts . From my perspective first and foremost is their lack of tower back haul and having the proper bandwidth available in many areas Secondarily, LTE won't be fully rolled out for quite a while.
I live in a small to medium sized city which has Div 1 university. I average 10-75 kbps each night when I get home from work and not much better when I leave in the mornings. Watching the network.spring.com website, there was to be a capacity upgrade to the tower closest to me. Now its not listed on the website anymore. Thanks Sprint.
Well I've looked all over the sprint website and still don't see the promo anywhere.

Besides the current top shelf smartphones, Evo 3d, Nexus, and epic....what does sprint have to offer right now that is truly an upgrade. The Evo has the most development I have ever seen on these forums. With all the current development for our Evo these phones just seem like a lateral movement. Especially with the upcoming line up from Samsung and HTC.
Not trying to argue. Maybe I'm not seeing all that's out there.
Thanks

Early upgrade for evo users !

The other day my friends OG Evo broke (charging port), And she took it sprint, They did a 90$ buy back plan for her Evo and she paid 5$ more and was able to purchase a Epic Touch 4g at upgrade price 199$ her upgrade isnt due till june, I thought she just got lucky but 2 days ago i took my phone in to get fixed because i had a blown speaker and they offered me the same deal, my upgrade isnt due till October 1st, i declined it, i love my OG Evo until something worth upgrading comes out. So im guesing if you had your evo near launch day you can probably get the same deal unless its just my local sprint store doing that offer. Let me know if anyone else gets this offer.

How is this nothing special? Getting an early upgrade? I mean, if this is common, I'm gonna be all over this, haha.
When the Evo 4G LTE comes out, or the Samsung GSIII is released, I'm going to be drooling over them! I'm not eligible for an upgrade until April of 2013. If they offer me the upgrade price on those two devices prior to my upgrade, I will be dancing in the streets!
Thanks to the OP for this hope!
Sprint has the buy up program for all customers who are within a year or so of their upgrade. I did this for my wife on her line last month. Our eligibility date isn't until November. I purchased the early upgrade for a little over eighty dollars and then got her the new phone for the new contract price.

Wow, this is terrific news! So do you think that when the new wave of phones begins trickling out this summer, I'll be able to do the same then (my upgrade is 04/2013)? Also, what do you mean by "purchasing" the early upgrade? There's an official program to buy an early upgrade? Or is it an unofficial thing going on all over?
I did this back in December and upgraded to the 3D. And op is right this is exclusively for the og Evo. Basically they are offering this to Evo users because of the og Evo's faulty USB port and battery life. Thats what the service rep who did the upgrade for me explained to me. So if you have an og Evo they will offer you an upgrade (even if your not eligible for ur upgrade yet) b4 taking a look at it..

I got my Sprint contract end-date moved, now I can LTEVO Monday!

I am very happy! I went into my local Sprint store, had googley eyes at the attractive Sprint guy, but he told me he couldn't move my contract end date so I could get the EVO LTE when it comes out. (My contract isn't up until Sept. 1 2012)
I called *2, explained to the rep that I wanted to stay with sprint another two years if I could upgrade to the EVO 4G LTE that is to be released for pre-order day after tomorrow. She said no.
She was eager to try options though and put me on hold. Her supervisor came back (without me asking for her). I said, "I will gladly pay any pro-rated fees to move my contract up to an early date. She told me there was nothing she could do to move my contract dates.
THEN
I said, "Why can't I pay the pro-rated penalty for canceling my contract at this point into it (20 months in) and.."
"Sir before we consider cancelling your service, let me transfer you to the department that can move your date up for you!"
And had no problems after that.
I would suspect Sprint would be willing to do anything to keep customers, as they have spent so much money on building a fallen 4G network and building a new 4G network, and after buying all them iPhones. lol
So, I will be a happy EVO 4G LTE pre-order customer come Monday!
Good for you.

If you have no plans to leave a particular carrier, I'd rather sign the contracts and not pay more money for the phones. I've had Sprint almost 5 years, my wife for 10. Why pay more?

i don't get it. all you get is $150 off the price. you can just buy the phone and hold onto that discount for the future...

$150? The cheapest you'll find this phone is at like $600 unless you wait for a few months to get it at $500 after some digging through ebay or craigslist

I don't get it, if you're going to stay on the same carrier anyways, why not upgrade? If you end up wanting to terminate your contract you'd still end up paying less in total through an upgrade than without one anyways.
Alaman nailed it. Other arguments are ridiculous and futile lol

Sprint will let anyone buy out there contract if the area you live in is approved for buy out. It sounds weird but they actually have maps of areas where customers can and can't buy out by region.
