[Q] Can I Odin as if it were a Fascinate? - Continuum General

I just bricked my Continuum.
I read a lot through these forums that the Fascinate is actually quite a LOT like it's little sister, the Continuum? Is this true?
Can I Odin it back to stock the same as a Fascinate then?
Do I need to use the Continuum pit or the atlas pit?
It isn't even my phone, it's my moms.
I use my DInc, and I take very good care of it.

Lol, it depends on what you want to do.. You can use Odin, sure... But you can't use the fascinate's flashing files... There are a couple Continuum odin images hanging around here, go find and use one of them
But... On another note, I don't actually suggest using odin... Its dangerous, and our images might not be the best.... I suggest to follow the guides, which are around here, and get cwm up and working... Then flash the DL17 super clean rom

[Q] Odin crashes on boot.bin on Epic

http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...axy-s-gt-i9000-to-android-2-2-froyo-download/
Ok first off this is what I used to create the problem I have right now.
I was able to get it to "install" and start up but it just keeps boot cycling on the boot screen.
So, I was going to go back to stock and then go back up to 2.2 leak for US.
Well... That didn't happen. Instead whenever I use Odin, it gets to boot.bin then crashes, except when I try to re-flash from the said above link ROM. Then it just does what it did before, boot screen cycle.
So, question is, is my phone bricked or is there a way for me to fix it.
YES I HAVE READ THIS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032
I've done everything exactly and like I said, Odin crashes on the boot.bin install every time.
Did adding the modem screen up the process?
Also, I know that my .tar files work because I used them prior to this problem without any problems at all.
Thank you
EDIT:http://www.talkandroid.com/23911-android-2-2-1-xxjpu-rom-from-kalpik-gives-galaxy-s-some-pep/
actually I lied, I got my rom from the link here and followed the instructions on the other site. ... I think, ugh I've been working on it for too long now.
Try putting the file in Phone instead of PDA
Follow this thread exactly, battery out and sd card out, PIT file and repartition:

Need help returning to stock 2.1 update 1 plz

Can someone help me find a clockworkmod flashable version of 2.1 update 1? I searched all over, the one by eugene in the bible has been deleted and I read on the thread that vibrantdump.zip link lead me to that its only odin flashable? I have it, will it flash via clockwork? Sending my phone back and want to semi return it to stock at least. Thx

Sorry I can't help you as I don't have what you're looking for. However, why not just use odin? It's just as easy as clockwork to use.
Just follow this guide to the letter and all will be well, I promise...

Go to this page to download the TRUE stock rom. I think it is in ODIN's format but it should work easity just as clockwork. I don't know if it's the same version as the one you have but give ODIN a chance, it was very simple for me and I'm practically a noob.

What's the zip file? Odin files usually contain a pit and a tar file. clockwork's zip have a bunch of folders and files, I think.
Yea you cannot use CWM to flash an Odin package. Use Odin to get back to 2.1.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
KA6 is official now - so no need to go all the way back to 2.1 to return phone. But you'll still need to use Odin to get the completely stock version on.

File is vibrantdump.zip, got it from the bible. I dont want to go all the way back to stock, just dont want them to turn it on and it be running nero v5.

So, could you flash back to stock with the current 2.2 update from Samsung? Or would flashing back to 2.1 be better?
vibrantdump.zip isn't an actual rom - it's just an archive containing the vibrant file tree. It doesn't have any scripts to install or anything.
Edit: If you're sending it back to Samsung for warranty work, you could always use a stock (not deodex/root/etc) JI6 clockwork mod image. KA6 is official, but not required.
I don't believe its possible to use CWM to flash back to 2.1 from 2.2 in any case because it doesn't backup the kernel. ODIN is the best (perhaps only?) way, but again not necessary since KA6 2.2 is now official.

You can flash a 2.1 rom with kernel such as fusion. Then flash your stock backup and a stock ji6 kernel.

Well I kinda told em that it had 2.1 update 1 lol, my reason for sending back was the gps and according to tmo cust serv the 2.2 release has a fix, I dont pay for a warranty, I guess its just a defective exchange. It also gets super hot above the battery when im really pushing it, that may be why they issued the return because I told them about that too. so if I cant flash the vibrantdump.zip, what would be a rom that simulates 2.1 the best? I cant get to a pc so I cant odin until wednesday and need to get it resembling stock before then. I know I cant lose clockwork recovery but just wanted it to say the right stuff in phone info and have the right startup shutdowns you know? Am I just worrying too much?
Edit: I cant kies mini the new update, no pc, there isnt a clockwork flashable version of it yet is there? could tell them I got it ota while waiting for new phone

I have the ji6 odin files if you want it.. that requires a pc though
Well i sent it back hacked and nothing happened. Guess i got lucky...

You don't need the pit file just put the tar file under PDA and make sure only auto reboot is checked

I suggest you check the wiki. You will find odin + pit, the proper dk28, & good instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700
Why go to dk28 when there is ec05 out? Try to flash a rom based on ec05. Also viper synergy is based on eb13 at the moment. Going g to dk28 is not a good idea. It was a test build. To many bugs compared to the builds we have now with the custom kernels

nice i wasnt sure if you could use the old roms on new software
Wiki has all the information that is needed.
Yes u can odin to anything at any time.
Some roms can run on higher modems than there built for (a dk28 rom on ec05 modem).
U really only to odin modems for upgrading, rom zips contain the rest.

[Q] Are all samsung phones this easy?

I know this isn't a question that fully pertains to the epic but I'd like to know is the odin tool a standard across all newer samsung phones? I had a hero before this phone and I remember I was always worried about bricking it. Maybe it was a lack of experience with rooting and flashing but I am much more comfortable modding this phone. I guess it would be a huge selling point for the within for me if I knew it would be as easy as this phone to mod. Thanks in advance.
I'm about to start modding my friend's Fascinate and they use Odin, as well. I'm pretty sure it's standard. Best way to check is to see the how to root threads for all the new Samsungs. Sadly, our one-click looks more efficient than others. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to save her data before flahing a ROM. They don't seem to get that one reboot before having to flash and wipe all data. Maybe a nandroid before will be the answer. I'll find out soon enough.

Before flashing a rom you could root the phone and install titanium backup and back up all the apps and data and then copy that to the computer

Btw, I want my wife to get the Droid Charge and I noticed they use Odin and CWM just like us.

Should Work on any rooted android phone. Odin is samsung leaked software. Before rooting or flashing any thing I do recommend reading up in the threads to be sure of the process first.

I know with the old Samsung Moment we used a piece of software from Samsung called SWUpdate. To be honest it is a LOT easier to use and far more idiot proof than Odin. I know there is also a version released for the Epic (I used it to update to official Froyo) and I am not sure why devs have not used that instead. It literally walks you through step by step with words and pictures (Remove the battery by taking off the back cover, reinsert battery, boot into download mode by pressing x,y, and z, etc.) Each step on a separate screen with photos and big "Next" button you had to hit after doing the instructions. The only "hard" part was finding the sub-sub-sub directory the stock .tar was in and replacing it with what you wanted to flash. Still, not very complicated and I never had a single problem getting the phone to flash to stock.

[Q] Newbie help

I know I am to do som e research so I looked through some videos and I get the understanding of root and rom. Ow my question is I looked through and I didn't see anything about the Samsung epic 4G Gingerbread EL30 which I have . What I would like to know is can I rom my phone and if I can where can I find how to do it cause I swear I looked and couldn't find it. I appreciate your patience with me.
Are you familiar with a program called "Odin"?
To root gingerbread (EL30), you will have to use odin and flash CWM.tar (clockwork mod is a recovery program for your phone) and after you do that, you can flash SU.zip and voila! Insta root! Proceed to flash whatever you want
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
No I'm not. I don't have the slightest clue what odin is. I saw that in the videos ad I didn't understand. So you are saying I need us Odin. Where can I find that at? Ok I think I found one from ramad. Now I'm afraid I'm going to mess up my phone lol
Here is the video and the links for programs are right after it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwFRzzIqouE
Odin can be found here if you like:

If you are too apprehensive about it perhaps it's best to not do it or get someone techincally apt to help you.
eekaboo:
Ahem: I can root your phone remotely through teamviewer if you feel its too much. Pm if your interested
Also fox you forgot odining the kernel or cwm will not stick

Chill stop telling people not to do it themselves...how the fluff do you expect them to learn? We all learned through trial and error lol I was pretty hesitant when I lost my flash virginity back on the hero, but since then its just gotten easier and easier lol
S/he can't brick it unless they flash a rom from a different phone.
But yeah follow these links and they'll help you immensely you could also check out the epic 4g wiki which includes instructions on how to root..

She just sounded way too nervous about it. And disconnecting or using a bad cable while Odining will hard brick a phone. I gave her the guides and didn't tell her not to do it, just recommended maybe it is not a good idea interpretting the level of apprehension. It was way easier with one click roots. Odin scared the hell out of me too and I have been a computer tech, an aerospace tech and associate Engineer. I thought she might want a more technical person to work with her and teach her.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
i didn't have to flash a new kernel after I used odin to flash el30 I just flash cwm

I suggest going and finding the video's you need from QBKing77 http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLC919C97579204B07&feature=plcp
That's his channel specifically epic 4g section on youtube. When I first got into rooting and flashing thats where I learned what I needed to and of course reading a lot on here.
1st tip I can give you: Don't use the USB cord that came with the Epic. Go out and get a nice Blackberry cord or I've had great luck with my wife's HTC Evo Shift cord.
