[Q] How to Backup actual MS2 Rom - Milestone 2 General

Hey guys
I've searched in this forum and also google about how to backup actual (stock) MS2 rom, but I have no luck. That's why I post this thread.
Actually, I found some article about backing up Droid 2 Roms with Nandroid but I'm not sure that It wilk work for MS2.
So guys, is there any safe way to backup and restore MS2 rom?
thank you
Regards

1 - Root phone
2 - Install Droid 2 Bootstrap
3 - Boot into recovery from Bootstrap
4 - Select backup on recovery ( use volume keys for up, down, camera for ok and power for back)

BandroidX Recovery is INCOMPATIBLE with CYANOGENMOD.
You're gonna have to flash the sbf, root, enable non market apps, and install DEFY 2ND-INIT RECOVERY.
As far as I know, BandroidX is only compatible with Stock and BravoX Roms.
brandoix procedure should eliminate as many people make mistakes and also is obsolete

Do not use BandroidX recovery for any rom except for BravoX (BravoX is a lightweight, deodexed stock rom). Use Defy 2nd-init -- Defy 2nd-init -- Defy 2nd-init.
Anyways, that's the screen to flash an sbf -- if its going there directly when you power up your phone and you're not pressing anything then your Bravo is in a semibrick state -- meaning the only fix is to flash the sbf and start over.
You just need to flash the sbf and install a proper recovery solution.
You only need to install Defy 2nd-init once (per sbf flash). Also, all custom roms on the Bravo come with Defy 2nd-init already installed so DO NOT INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY ONCE YOU'RE RUNNING A CUSTOM ROM. Its pointless*.
*Unless you're testing some version of Touch recovery -- only recommended for advanced users.
Follow the directions in these two links and you'll be back in action in no time
Link to sbf thread
Link to Defy 2nd-init thread
Once you get the hang of it you'll be able to go from sbf to custom rom in under 10 minutes and lol at yourself for being stuck with a simple problem. On my first week of having a Bravo I was stuck on boot at the red M. Couldn't figure out what was wrong. Tried everything I knew and ended up low battery bricking myself. Managed to get a charge and accessed the screen with an ! in the triangle and an andriod -- didn't know what to do on that screen -- got lucky and happened to hit both volume buttons and access stock recovery (took me 3 days to figure out how to access stock recovery btw), did a factory reset there and my Bravo was fully working again. Problem was I didn't factory reset before flashing CM7 when coming from stock...Also, Bravo's 3g was my only internet at the time.
Wow, after looking back I just realized how much I've learned in my 1.5 years with a Bravo. Gotta love XDA for all the knowledge you can obtain here.
/the Bolded crap isn't necessarily directed at you, just bolding it so it sticks out and hopefully helps someone else out -- I've answered questions similar to this and the solution is always "Don't use BandroidX Recovery"

[Q] CWM won't recog drives, can't do Nandroid backup

Updated my rooted Honeycomb AT100 with Dale's Rooted Stock ICS ROM ... downloaded some new apps and reloaded some old ones extracted from a prior nandroid backup and got the thing running just the way I want it (almost, sometimes the screen locks up during sleep and won't come back without a poweroff and reboot.)
Anyway, I had it to the point where doing a backup is mandatory and discovered it just won't allow it.
It WON'T soft boot into recovery mode using apps like ROM Manager or Titanium (and it won't flash a new version of CWM because the AT100 is unsupported.)
It WILL hard boot into recovery mode using the volume/off button but when it does it returns can't find E:SD Card when I try to do a backup. I tried to work around this by backing up to a USB stick, but CWM resolutely refuses to recognize and mount the USB device.
Here's another weird thing, ROM manager reports I have CWM 5 installed but sometimes when I hard boot into recovery mode I get the old "push button" version of CWM, other times I get the "touch" version ... it seems to be random selection .
I thought, perhaps, the best solution would be to uninstall and reinstall CWM but now matter how I (pardon the pun) I root around I can't find anyway to do that. Your help would be very, very appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Give my twrp a try, its been far less touchy then cwm has been.

[Q] Questions regarding Engle_Mars' MM2 CM10.1 port installation

Hello everyone, this is my first post on XDA and it is about Engle_Mars' CM10.1 port for MM2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128318). I have a rooted MM2 (A953) running Android 2.2 Froyo, kernel version 2.6.32.9 and I wanted to try JB on my device, I installed Droid2Bootstrap (CWMRecovery is working just fine) and got his ROM on the SD card. My questions are:
A) Even though the ROM is based on the 2.6.32.9 Kernel, will it still run on my device? I am from Argentina and I purchased my phone at Personal S.A so it's running their custom Froyo Rom (System Version: Version.3.13.0.A953.Personal.en.AR)!
B) My phone's USB port is broken and the PC won't recognize it (Yes, I have tried a bunch of USB cables and other pcs as well), having this said, if I try the installation and end up in a boot loop will I be able to recover my device without RSDLite or a PC at all?
C) I have backed up my current ROM with CWMRecovery, will I be able to restore this backup if I want to downgrade or if the installation goes wrong?
Any help is very much appreciated, I am a complete noob as far as Android is concerned so sorry if I made any stupid questions, but I couldn't find any help on Google or other Forums. Thanks in advance!

A) Yep, new ROMs have custom kernels running with 2ndboot, that means that the running froyo kernel get replaced with a custom jb kernel on the fly. I'd recommend you flash the bootmenu v1.1 (from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1183672&d=1341699135 , it's a newer (v5 versus v2), permanent recovery, you flash it using the "volatile" recovery in the bootstraper)
B) Nope, but remember to wipe data/factory reset on recovery so you don't get stuck. If you can't get to the custom recovery, stock recovery can be used to wipe.
C) Yes, but it's recommended yo do another backup with the newer recovery on the bootmenu, this is because CWM 5 has a newer backup format.
Remember most of the stuff has been already discussed here on xda. Some of the stuff for the defy applies to the MS2 as well (they're almost the same hardware-wise).
Good luck, and welcome to the milestone 2's rom scene

I really don't think it's normal, but if you haven't fixed it yet maybe you can do a restore wiping the cache and the partition (something like that). Like I said, I'm new to Android, not much I can help you with, sorry.

Well, you can search around. Read before asking. Read the stickies. You have to start by rooting, installing 2ndinit and then install JB.
Three words of advice for you:
Backup
Backup
Backup
and then back up your back ups from your SD card/phone to your p.c
In other words as soon as youve got 2nd init and the boot menu working run a back up copy and keep this somewhere safe ( this is your re-set to zero back up ) you may also want to back up call logs/ and texts (sms) this can be done with an app
Back up all your apps with something like titanium back up, also if using titanium make a flashable zip version on your SD card
wipe+install ROM, if it works OK, do another back up form recovery, ( this is your basic clean installed ROM ) install titanium ( from the flashable zip you made previously)
re-boot and Re-load your apps form titanium backup, if all works OK make another back up in recovery, keep these backups somewhere safe ( ie backed up onto your p.c ) each time you flash a new rom back everything up, also back up from time to time as well ( both through recovery and titanium)
Tried

I tried looking around but no one is giving step by step instructions...
I do not even know how to root and where to find a toolkit...
Root-search for framaroot
Install 2ndinit apk-again search
Download rom from xda
Copy to sdcard
Reboot device, and press the vol down button when led turns
Select custom recovery, and install zip from sdcard. Wipe data after(factory reset)

[Q] Defy hard resetting itself on each boot.

Hi everyone!
I am having very strange problem with stock rom "JORDN _U3_6.36.0" from T-Mobile USA on standard Defy. Each time i power phone up, it starts booting up then restarts itself in to stock recovery and perform hard/factory reset. After that it boots normally, but all settings gone.
I am not using T-mobile sim or moto blur account , so i skip registration using "ebluroff" trick. Is that can be the cause of the problem?
Some backstory: when i bought the phone it had CyanogenMod 7 installed on it. I used it for 2-3 years, even updated it several times up to 7.2.
Then some time ago i started having issues with it, so i had to flash stock rom with 2.1 Android.
I decided not to do anything with the phone, until i got some advice, so i any help would be greatly appreciated.
What were the issues faced? Anyhow one of the things you can try is to upgrade to 2.2, via rsd lite

Well, thing is i want to keep my downgrade ability. I rooted the phone with superoneclick and install 2ndInit 1.4.2, but the problem is that it doesn't see SD card because it is Eclair. How people installed nandroid backups on 2.1? There has to be the way to move to 2.2 without flashing full SBF, because as i already mentioned it had CyanogenMod 7 when i bought it, so it is possible.

Some update. After hours of digging i found out these thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=899450
So, i first flashed defy 2.2_boot_only FIXED FSB, then after reboot custom recovery started working, so restored Droid22 rom from it.
Phew, i knew it was possible. So now i have rooted chines (?) android 2.2.1 on my phone and working custom recovery. I am gona stick on it for a while until i find best 2.3.3. nandroid ROM.
Just wanted to clarify was it right order - first flashing fixed SBF then restoring nandroid backup? I couldnt get custom recovery working without updating bootmenu first.
I also wanted to add that i did custom recovery data|cash wipe before flashing fixed SBF, before AND after restoring nandroid backup.
I saw that lots of people had problem like me , hope my message will help.
Here is link to another forum which has working download links http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...ed-rooted-android-2-2-froyo-on-motorola-defy/
