[MOD] sd Speed increse...w/pics - Thunderbolt Android Development

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807
I know Adrynalyne said that our devices have this tweak, and I verified
with 2 roms (Tesla 1 and AirborneTB RC1B3) that we do NOT have the default of
128kb, but 512kb.
but they are saying 2048kb is the best setting. hopefully we can figure out
what is "BEST" for our phone, and make it work.
(personally, I have done 2048, and it does seem to work for gallery/ect)
I used the information from the thread,
and this tool to benchmark :
SD TOOLS
yes there is a disclaimer about incorrect readings are possable, but i feel when all 3 of each test are as close as they are, it's all good.
OK, here are my tests, 3 runs each on 512kb, and 2048KB.... seems to work for me :
512KB :

2048KB :

2048 worked best on my Nexus S but not sure how this correlates to the Bolt since the NS didn't have a SD card. Curious to see what the experts have to say on this.

You have the stock SD card that came with the tbolt? even with changing it to 2048 I still only hit 4.6mb and 8.6mb =(

yes i do, never taken it out once.
i can if it matters... but nope, wasn't till yesterday i even "really" knew where the slot was.

A couple things.
The defauilt is 128kb. This is fine.
When it was needed, the Evo was sporting a 4kb setting.
Read ahead doesn't really speed up your sd card.
It buffers. Kind of like watching a video streaming. If your speed is too low, you will get no video until the buffers get far enough ahead. Doesn't mean you see the video any faster if you increase the buffer size. If you lower your buffer size, video will suck and be choppy, but it will finish at the same time as the larger buffer.
So, to each their own. In the end, transfers end up at the finish line at the same time.

so what your saying is...
placebo effect?
I'm more than willing to just turn it back to what it was, it bothers me not if i am, incorrect.

Im saying, its like anything else that buffers...
While its buffering data, its doing nothing. Then reading the buffered data is fast.
However, if you started reading data immediatly, it would appear slower, but in reality, still gets there at the same time. You can't cheat hardware.
This would be a handy tweak if you had a high bitrate movie that was stuttering. I persoanlly don't have that issue or have seen it at 128kb, but for those that do, this would be ideal, i suppose.

ahhh, fair information. setting back to what it was.
with that information, and how i use my device, I will not gain much from it.
thanks for everything!

Well on my phone at 128 I got 5.5 and 18 but at 2048kb I am getting 8.2 and 46

SD card removal results in faster frame rate

I wonder since going to ext4 or around that time, why my framerate on quadrant as really not uniform, and rather constantly up and down like a yo-yo.
That being the case, I have have really low sub 600 scores on 3d benchmark.

Unmounting the card, I seen 20 fps on the 2d, 50 fps lock on the first 3d test going through the hall and up the stairs, 70 max with the flashing light. 58 max on the planets, and 40 fps lock on dna, all resulting in 900+ scores.
I took pics of the scores with SD card mounted and unmounted.
I will try both formatting the sd first and test. And if that doesn't improve frame rate while SD card is mounted, I will move all programs to internal storage.
Edit= I'm om bonsai 1.1.3 I think it is. At 1ghz

My findings for 3d mark scores (SD mounted) -
900 on RFS (1st run).
2nd pass : 3d benchmark ONLY = 938
SD Unmounted -
1st pass : 3d benchmark ONLY = 908
side note: with SD unmounted, I noticed a lot of FPS fluctuation during benching.
Mammon's Bonsia4All v1.1.3
for comparison sake...
my score jumped about a 100 exactly from unmounting my sd card

HD2 with Class 10 microSD Card - Very low write speed @WP7/Android

Hello!
I`ve bought an PATRIOT class 10 microSD card for my HD2 (due recommendations on this forum, people say it works perfectly in WP7), but I`ve got a very low write speeds both on WP7 and Android. When using card-reader, writing speed is ~10 MB/s, but in WP7 it is very low (<1MB/s) on any WP Mango ROM. Android is a little bit faster, but not enough: ~5MB/s.
This problem also provides very-very long "Installing app" screen on the first run of WP7.
I've used a WP Bench to get some statistics about writing speed, and here are the test results:

Do anyone have similar sd-card with that kind of problems?
which exactly storage is card? if 32gb or more, less class is recommended
Card namm
Patriot 16 GB microSDHC Class 10
Looks like this one
another example of the stupidity of these Confirmed compatible SD card threads
just searched that card on half a dozen websites and whilst i cant be 100% positive i can tell you that the chances of it working are very low.
as already posted, a good rule of thumb is that you have less chance with a higher class rating, doesnt mean it wornt work which is why one lucky person probably got random card that did work (for now) posted that its perfect (which they have no way of knowing unless they filled the whole card) which convinced others that they all must be good cards, (which they wont be)
Your not to blame, maybe try and send it back, say that your camera didnt work with it or something, if there was another card you see feel free to drop me a line an ill check it out, most of the benchmarks come from websites in china so can be confusing
Ive just finished a stack of research and brought a
Sandisk SDSDQY-016G-E11M 16GB Mobile Ultra microSD
almost all benchmarks of that card produced stats that should mean it works with WP7, doesnt mean it will, bit there is a good chance it will
SDSDQY-016G-U46A
But that one which is the same card only Class 6, probably will not work.
edit
time spent sifting through hundreds of websites paid off, card worked, there is no promise that it will work for anyone else but there appears to be fairly good consistancy with the speeds all the reviews of these cards have achieved, thus there is a good chance it may work for others.

Huge problem after 4.2.2: slow SD write speed

Hi
Yesterday i recieved 4.2.2 ota, and since then, i've realised my nexus 10 is not as smooth as it used to be.
I've specially felt that when i was installing/downloading APPs, in those moments, there were a ton of frames lost swyping homescreens, running apps etc.
With this, i've started to digg, and since this smells like I/O problems, i've ran antutu to check my eMMC speeds. And there comes the surprise. In 4.2.1 i used to have around 50MB/s writting speeds. Now, in 4.2.2, writting speed jumps from 4 to 7 MB/s, what produces lag.
I'm not rooted/unlocked and i've ever been.
Can you run antutu or other memory benchmarks and tell me if you are having the same issue? I've done nothing in my tablet but installing the OTA i recieved yesterday, so i'm a bit suspicious about that.
Thanks!

Full stock 4.2.2 (no unlock or root atm)
Benchmarks are perfect.. Flies through tests. Also OP, 50MB/s write tests seem impossible.. I don't know any device that writes that fast and would be a complete waste..
Nexus 10
For comparisons sake one of my tests from the Nexus 7..
Edit: Right image in place for Nexus 7
Thank you guys. So it's only a problem with my device.
I've uninstalled every single APP i had updated since yesterday, and nothing, this keeps writting SD extremely slow.
I'm afraid i'll have to do a factory reset. i'll report back when it's done.
Sv: Huge problem after 4.2.2: slow SD write speed
My write speed was comparable to yours when sdcard was close to full. I removed 4gb and all went back to normal. This was on 4.2.1. I have not tested yet with 4.2.2

Theoretically it wasn't my issue, unless OTA created some weird files that filled my memory. Anyway couldn't check it out, since after i did a factory reset everything worked again, with ~30MB/s writting speeds. The problem, i spent about 2 hours reinstalling everything.
Thanks for your help!

My S6 Read and Write speeds for SD and RAM

I just got my 64GB S6 and here are the benchmarks for my fresh S6 after restoring my backup and installing the T-mobile software update that has already came out. I used A1 SD Bench to test these speeds.
I am super impressed, with these speeds, I really don't mind no micro SD slot. :good:

Damn those are some nice numbers! Can't wait to pick up one of these bad boys next week!
I know you get faster file movement (copying etc..), booting time along with faster programs.. but, how does this exactly affect the overall performance?

The overall effect is that everything your doing is done faster, smoother, with no hesitation. So just makes the overall experience fluid. I especially notice this speed when installing an apk. Smaller programs you hit the install button and in a blink its done, literally a blink.

You pretty much answered your own question.
Every action performed on a device requires a read, write, or both (but mostly read). The faster that occurs, the faster and smoother the performance will be.
So while it'll help with the actual "movement" of files, it also speeds up access times and the overall interactions between the device's components.
It's all about removing bottlenecks from hindering the device from doing its job.

Played with it for 20min

I thought the screen size compared to my 10 plus would be relatively indiscernible but it really looks quite bigger . Wierd.
I returned the s20U because of the camera issues especially with the main 108 megapixels. This phone completely nails it. I took pictures from all different angles and all different zooms and they were really superb.
Much as I love my 10 plus screen clarity the 20 Ultra really seems to top it.
Here's another weird thing I tested the speed of it on a speed test and it was 256 ms down.
then tested the 10-plus in the store and it was 489 ms down! I tested it twice the 10+: 400+ ms down.
What the hell's with that ?!

A speed test on what? The in store wifi? How did you connect your phone to the in store wifi for the devices on display?

Exactly, so many reasons this could be the case, even cases, phone orientation, is one on 2.4Ghz wifi and one on 5Ghz, if on 5G/LTE are they both on the same mode, etc.
I want someone to point the Note 20 Ultra camera at their current phone with a black background and white text to see if the "across the frame" focal uniformity issues that the S20 Ultra has - are fixed!
Never have I had a phone camera with a frustration level so high in being able to easily and quickly capture text on a computer screen before! I shouldn't have to use pro mode and MF and zoom and do best guess on peaking to hope it looks decent. Readable? Yes, but I'm used to text in photos looking like the original.
My lowly Nexus6 and Droid Turbo take better pics in this regard FFS! :-|
