Cingular 8525 Scroll Wheel Mystery

Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I have enjoyed my 8125 and when I upgraded to the 8525, I ritualistically came here for all the answers. However, there is one issue that I have experienced that is not echoed by anyone else.
I have ROM version 1.34.502.1 and have the following apps installed:
Eten Dialer
Phonealarm
PQzII
TomTom 6 Navigator
TCPMP
Google Maps
Live Search
The problem is that when I freshly boot the phone and place a call, I can manipulate the in-call volume via the scroll wheel. Up, down, no problem. However, when I exit out of the dialer screen and return to it a few hour later, I find that I can no longer turn the in-call volume down via the scroll wheel--only up works.
If anyone can shed some light on this matter, I sure would appreciate it.

Not much help, but just an observation. The behaviour shown by your scroll volume is certainly not normal. I tested this out on mine. What I did notice was that there is some lag in the response of the scroll volume - so long in fact that it can appear to be non-responsive. It seems the device "remembers" the number of clicks up and keeps trying to raise the volume even though its at maximum. So even if I then scroll down it can take a few seconds for it to complete trying to raise the volume before it begins trying to respond to my down scroll. In fact this behaviour can make it appear as if when scrolling down it actually is raising the volume - but I think this is only due to laggy behaviour in my case?

I found that the E-Ten dialer disabled my scroll wheel short-cut to call history and quick dial. When I removed it these functions came back. Shame, I like the big buttons.

Thank you guys for your responses. It wasn't a huge annoyance for me. I just don't like it when functionality just evaporates away from my phone inexplicably. Hopefully, it can be resolved somehow? I will look for further responses.

It's the PQzII that disable the in-call volume adjustment. But my version is: "down" -> turn in-call volume down, "up" -> switch to today.

if you use "0x76" as any function. It has been changed to "0xAA".
There are some Hermes devices as like DoCoMo hTcZ/Softbank X01HT have "MOJI" button.
The button outputs "0x76" but it could be a cause of Jog wheel problem while calling.
as for me, I used 0x76 key code for IME on/off. and changed to "0xAA".
if you don't use 0x76 you don't need to care about this.

Hardware Buttons w/Pocketmusic

Hi people,
I searched the forums and I couldn't find anything related to this.
When I try to remap my hardware buttons while using Pocketmusic, there's no reaction whatsoever, buttons are not being reassigned, they just do their normal action, even while on the Reassign buttons screen.
Any suggestions?

Which version of Pocket Music? I have 3.6 but you don't mention which version you have.

I know, digging up this post but same thing happens to me using the latest version of PM (although on a different ppc, universal).
When booting up in safe mode though (through spb plus), h/w buttons work ok... try this first and if it works for you on safe mode as well, that means there's probably a conflict with another app.
BTW I noticed that in my case, when I use the D-pad on Pocket Music today item (when selected) h/w buttons work! So the problem lies on the program itself (when it's running full screen maybe?)

I've found the solution! On my HTC Kaiser the hardware buttons didn't work with PocketMusic 5.3.1 demo because of S2U2 I was using. I turned it off and the hardware buttons worked perfectly. But then your device is unlocked when a call comes in.
The real solution: Open the S2U2 Settings and switch ON "Don't use Keyboard Hook". That's it. Enjoy

Volume (phone and rings) decreas to ZERO by itself.

Hi, I've a qtek 9090 with helmi WM6.1
the volume (phone and rinds) decrease from normal to ZERO by itself and for some minutes i can't increase it, because it decrease again.
How can i exclude the button of the volume or use a program that control the volume.

I've opened my qtek and i have moved up and down the slider switch and goes well.
But sometimes (1 every hour...) the volume decrease to zero by itself again...
How can I exclude the volume slider switch, and use only a new program to set the volume of the phone and of the rings?

Rather software problem. If you use some profile managers - check your settings. You may try to do hard reset and then check.

i have hinstall the rom of sun dream but it's quite the same,
there isn't a program that excude the colume swith and do the same thinks by software?

it seems that this is hardware button problem and not woftware one, do the only logical way is to disonnect the volume slider button ...

I do have the same problem, but until now I thought that this is a HW problem...
I also have a problem with the volume at the phone. Sometimes the volume is OK, but sometimes I can't hear anything until I'll push the screen gently/hardly.
The SW-volume is still at middle for both (phone and device).
Open and cleaning didn't fix the problem...

Hi, my BA have the same trouble with volume up slider.
I tryed to hardreset and upgrade rom but it does not help. Opening cover and cleaning also do not fix the problem.
Last, I removed the main battery and wait about 1 hour until the backup battery is empty completely.
After power up again, my BA resets and ... operates normally.
I guess, some critical data is changed randomly in my BA by unknown reasons. The changing remains in memory of BA because of the backup battery. Hardreseting or rom upgrading did not restore the data. May be it likes CMOS of PC ?

volume key overrides keylock

I'm using an out the box Orange Touch HD (rom - 1.19.61.1 WWE)
I have found that the volume key still works even when the keylock is active.
I have used HDTweak already for other things and couldn't see anything relating to this. also searched forum to no avail (maybe not well enough )
Does anyone know of a way to fix this as it clearly seems to be an oversight.

At a guess, i think its meant to be like that so you can adjust the volume if you are using it as a music player without having to unlock the phone. Does it affect you when you use the phone? (sorry i don't know how to help but I just thought I'd add my opinion)

This is a problem as when its in a pocket i have already had more than one situation where I have gone to get the phone out and without realising, turned the ringer to silent.

I have a related difficulty... Hope you don't mind me adding to this thread rather than setting up a new one...
If my phone (Touch HD on ROM 1.56.405.1) is PIN-locked and I receive a call, I'm unable to change the in-call volume without telling the caller to wait while I unlock the phone and alter the volume... Is there any way of allowing the volume keys to work in this situation without having to unlock? I've search high and low for an answer or some suitable app to handle this.

Hi,
I tried using the volume keys when the device was locked, you can indeed adjust the ringer volume whilst the device is locked, although if you try doing this after you switch the screen off by pressing the top power button, pressing the volume keys has no effect then.
Providing the screen is off, you shouldn't have any problems switching your phone to silent unintentionally .
Just thought I mention this.

it's a known problem that regards standard windows mobile locking system. Only solution is using another locking program (s2u2, pocketscreen, touch lock pro, lockmelite and so on). There are on this forum aplenty.
regarding to the other problem with PIN and incall volume i am not really sure but again iirc it's a winmo default locking "feature".

When I use the keylock (long press endcall-button), my volume keys won't work.. even when the screen is on.
This has been on my stock rom (1.14 NLD), new stock rom and on Dutty's 3.3 XT...

Registry Help - volume keys on diamond

My Diamond is about to go in the bin!!!
If anyone knows how to edit the registry to "switch off" the volume keys on the Diamond then please, please, please help me.
The volume screen is permanently flashing on my screen, and seems to be stuck on the up button which means I can't use the phone. it's not a hardware issue as the buttons aren't stuck or won't work, it's from a bad flash (according to HTC!) - i've tried stock roms/MTTY etc but the problem still persists from one rom to another.
Any registry experts willing to help

Not sure how you can achieve this if the volume is always on top but if you install AEbutton you can unmap the volume buttons

I can almost 100% sure tell you that it's hardware there is a sensor underneath the button that is probable stuck. because if it wasn't then a rom flash would have fixed it. there is a spray don't know what it's called in
English but something like contact cleaner it cleans electric parts for dust

Thanks for the replies everyone, AE button seems to have fixed it, although i'm not 100% sure that it's gone yet, as it could stop for a while and start again.
HTC did say it was a hardware fault caused by installing hard spl/custom rom (although I only left Hard spl when I sent it back..by mistake ) and wanted to charge me £230.
i'll try the spray cleaner anyway I don't think it will do any harm.
