[Q] So there is no Quad data version that will work on AT&T anywhere? :( - Xperia Play General

Would love to pick up this phone, but not with data that won't run HSDPA on AT&T.

Nexus One and Telus

I currently have an old HTC Diamond and am ready for an upgrade.
Telus' new 3.5G network runs HSDPA / WCDMA 1900/850.
I read that ATT runs on 1900/850? Or at least 850? If I got an unlocked ATT Nexus one would it have both the 1900 and the 850 band?

And what, might I ask, is an "ATT Nexus one"? Nexus one is sold and branded by GOOGLE. It has UMTS 900/1700/2100. This is NOT the same as ATT frequencies, which are, as you mention, 850/1900.
The difference is that ATT has an EDGE network and GN1 supports EDGE at 850/900/1800/1900. BELUS does NOT.
If you want to use GN1 in Canada, I recommend you switch providers to WIND. Their rates are WAY better, and they run on UMTS 1700/2100, which is compatible with GN1.
I get a really *really* good deal with Telus. Unlimited data, more txt and minuets then ill ever use, all the extras (caller id, voice mail) and all for under $45. I make good use of the unlimited data via tethering.
Switching from telus isn't an option.
Oh, and sorry for calling it an ATT Nexus One, I was simply implying it was available on the ATT network, my mistake.
The version of the nexus one that works on ATT's 3g has not been released yet. It recently passed through the FCC, but AFAIK the only one available now is the T-mobile version.
You should be good though buying an ATT 3g version when they come out. Who knows maybe sales to Canada will be open by then.

Does Rogers Support these frequencies/networks?

Hi,
I wanted to get the Motorola Droid Milestone from selectgsm but i'm not sure if it would work on Rogers in Canada. I am not sure about the network capability, if there is anyone who can help me and tell me if this phone would work or not work it would be greatly appreciated. BTW on the website it says the modes are "GSM: 850/900/1800/1900Mhz 3G: HSDPA 900/2100Mhz" I have no idea wether these are supported by Rogers.
Unfortunately I am not able to post a link to the phone but if you need any more information on it feel free to message me for the link or just go on selectgsm and look at the Motorola Droid Milestone. (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE MOTOROLA MILESTONE NAM)
This phone will not work on Rogers' 3G network, but it will work on 2G (EDGE).
I believe the Telus version of the Milestone, if you manage to unlock it, will work on Rogers' 3G.
yes, you must use the telus version to and unlock it for 3g, and i highly advise getting the telus version

The phone is already unlocked, and what do you mean by the Telus version, i'm buying it from an independent supplier.
And what is the difference between 3g network and gsm becaus ei believe this phone would work on the Rogers GSM network.
3G is faster, GSM is 2G or Edge. Yes it will work, but not on 3G network

Will the UK version work in Canada?

Hey guys,
Looking at pre-ordering the unlocked version of the DVP from Clove but I'm not sure whether it is going to work in Canada =/.
I've looked at all the Canadian cell phone providers (Telus, Fido, Bell, Rogers) and it doesn't seem like they are compatible with the 3G band on the Dell Venue Pro (900/2100).
Canadian providers seem to require 850/1900 or 1700.
So uh...is it worth buying the phone? Anyone think it will work?
Does the phone need to be 3G compatible to work? (Telus seems to say that your phone NEEDS to be 3G+ compatible).
Thanks,
-Sean

is 3G necessary for smartphones?
I've never had a smartphone before. right now I'm just using an old flip phone.
Would the phone need to have 3G in order for me to bring it to a carrier and add a sim card + plan?

Yea, 3G would be pretty much a necessity, as the next best available connection you would get is edge, which is much slower.
For $989 this site claims to have a Telstra NextG compatible version up for grabs:
http://www.mobicity.com.au/dell-venue-pro.html
I have been using a Telstra HD2 on Telus which gives me 3G+ for a while so I would assume this one would also work. But then again I could be wrong as the bands don't look right..
So it does work if i only use for 2G cell phone service with Fido (no internet), right?
I can use WIFI only.

no your wroung,
you need 850/1900 UMTS/HSPA if you want to use rogers, fido, bell, telus, virgin, koodo, on 3g
you need 850/1900 GSM if you want to use rogers/fido with no 3g
if you want to use wind mobile you need 1700/2100 UMTS/HSPA (same as t-mobile)

Bands
UMTS 900/1700/2100
GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
HSDPA 7.2Mbps/HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
There's that 1700/2100 that I need!

[Q] AT&T or Bell Atrix 4G?

I am going to Canada next week and I am planning to buy Atrix 4G.
I heard that at bell and Canadian bestbuy are selling at 599 ,but I will also take a trip down to NewYork and I check that the ATT store are selling at 499.
So what is the different between these two? Or what should I get ATT or bell. And Can I just go buy it without any contract or sth.
Last thing ,how much is Canadian tax and can I have a refund at the Airport?
Thank. Srry for bad English. I am Thai.
Ontario tax is 13%. The phone comes out to 677.99 after tax. If you can go to New York/Buffalo then do it.
Advantageif the Bell atrix is that sideloding enabled by default and tethering and hotspot is enabled too.
Im pretty sure you should be able to get the taxes back.

Where ever you can get it cheapest, as mac stated it does have side loading and hotspot enabled but that only takes about a minute to enable on the AT&T version.
i thought $499 is only for existing at&t customers and $599 for everyone else.
The Bell Atrix allows sideloading android apps without root the AT&T one doesn't.
That the only difference I can think of.
How about the ROM ?
I browsing through the forum and I find that the GingerBlur doesn't support Bell Atrix
HERE -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991595
and is it true that some Atrix has a random restart problem. If so I prefer the Bell cause I will stay in Canada for a month. So that I will have time identifying that problem and replacing the machine.

True. There are some differences in the stock ROMs. Even the MOD for WebTop over HDMI was updated for the Bell Atrix. I guess the Gingerblur would be updated as well (atleast, I hope).

Well, technically it currently only supports HSDPA and not HSUPA.
True, well not sure if supports the right word cause it supports the capability, but somehow it has been hampered by the powers that be.
3G Networks
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3708&idPhone2=3709
Bell version: 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
3G: HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps; HSUPA, 2.0 Mbps
ATT version: 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
3G: HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps
Can anyone elaborate on this factor?

I have the Bell version on Bell. It supports HSDPA and HSUPA, but unless you flash a different modem, you will not get HSUPA. It was disabled like the ATT version was, the only difference is that ATT has enabled it with an update, Bell has not.

My Bell Atrix runs Gingerblur 3.5 perfectly
The AT&T version actually gets updates.
Not knocking Bell users at all, but that's the truth. I think there's a way around that, however.

[T-Mobile] AT&T 3G Roaming Agreement with T-Mobile & Network Refarm

So...it's probably safe to say that everyone in this forum knows about the 7 year roaming deal that AT&T has signed with T-Mobile. Does anyone have any ideas on when that will happen? And the big question...will the iPhone technically be able to be used on 3G with T-Mobile? Yes, it would only work while roaming, but would it not work for some reason? A T-Mobile rep brought up the question and I thought it was a good question. I'd like it to bring in revenues for T-Mobile...but I love my fast speed I get with T-Mobile, and 10 gazillion iPhones would do nothing but harm for that.
**Updated** Please, if anyone can check their Android phone (via *#0011#) and post if it says band II along with the city you're in at the time that it shows it! We need to find out which cities have been refarmed to 1900MHz for 3G/4G.
So, go forth and discuss
List of pentaband UMTS devices:
T-Mobile Galaxy S II (T989)
Nokia N8 and N9
T-Mobile Vibrant (T959)
Galaxy Nexus (HSPA version)
...expanding
It'd be 2G roaming. The carriers' 3G networks are incompatible. While AT&T devices will work on T-Mobile's EDGE data, it shouldn't be common enough to impact our speeds much. The only way this could possibly happen is if both AT&T and T-Mobile started selling exclusively pentaband HSPA devices. Which would be awesome on so many levels.

The OP specifically asked about the iPhone, which is unable to get 3G on T-Mobile's network. So if an AT&T iPhone were to roam on T-Mobile's network, it would not get 3G speeds.
Edit: The Galaxy Nexus is also pentaband, and so are the Nokia N8 and N9. The original Vibrant is also pentaband.
The Skyrocket is also pentaband, so I'll be able to mooch off of 42.2mbps HSPA+ when I get an LTE throttle. LOL

Skyrocket has a more advanced modem.
Well, it's really just the T-Mobile radio with LTE slapped into it, so yes, I do have 42.2Mbps.
has anyone tried the AT&T skyrocket on T-Mobile? Does it support HSPA+ AWS? AFAIK, only LTE works on AWS for this phone.
Thanks everyone for the phones. I've been busy and couldn't really update the thread. The current gen iPhone doesn't have AWS, yes, but since the roaming agreement is UMTS, wouldn't that allow T-Mobile devices that have the ability to roam on 850/1900 bands the ability to connect to their 3G network? So jailbroken iPhones that are activated on T-Mobile could roam over to AT&T 3G, it's just that it isn't likely that AT&T would allow it.
Am I right in my assumption?
I don't think AT&T would allow it, honestly.
Edit: According to GSMArena, the Skyrocket doesn't support 1700/2100 HSPA+. Only 1700/2100 LTE.

Over at the T-Mobile SGS II forums, when I flashed a T-Mo SGS II modem, I gained access to 1700/2100.
All I need is a T-Mo SIM card to test if it'll connect to 3G, which I don't have.
I have the GSM Galaxy Nexus so naturally I am quite excited for this.
But the question remains... Does anyone have the slightest idea when this service will go live???

It's not as simple as touching AT&T, and roaming.
You have to be in an area where there is COMPLETELY no T-Mobile signal, it can't even pick it up when you scan for it. Then, and ONLY then, will the SIM allow you to verify it on AT&T's network for roaming.
With AT&T's larger coverage footprint, you T-Mo users should have some nice coverage while traveling.
