You can find here with 3 choices:
i5700EXXJC1 which is first release by Samsung
i5700EXXJCE the one i'm using, quite fast
i570EXXJH7 which latest firmware fast with new default wallpaper
Love Android

You has to find the correct firmware like (ej: I570EXXJD4) where E means Eclair, and then flash the phone with Odin

in terms of Firmware talk.. which is newer JC1 or JCE? like, is it 1-9 and then A-Z or is it A-Z then 1-9 at the end of a firmware for the latest version?

[Q] Is it worth upgrading from JF3 to JPY

Hi there,
I've a galaxy s running 2.2.1 I think, kies reports the current firmware version is JF3, but the latest is JPY.
I only got it to this state last week, and am not sure I can be bothered upgrading and having to set up bookmarks etc again.
Can anyone tell me the benefits of JPY compared to JF3?
Thanks

you can check the android version in "about this phone", not only the firmware code name.
Any Android 2.2.1 *stable* (not leaks) for the Galaxy S is fine in my opinion. Changes are usually minimal from version to version.
But i'm not sure if JF3 is 2.2.1.
Jf3 is 2.1, a really slow version.
Upgrading to jpy is deffinetly worth it.
You get tons of new things like flash player.
And its much, much faster.

Need help with upgrading to 2.3/2.3

Hi first of all I want to say that i know there is a lot of threads about this but there are so many that i don´t know what to do any further so I am starting a new thread.
I have a galaxy S and wanted to update from Android 2.1 to Android 2.2 but i have been waiting and waiting and Kies always says there are not other updates.
I tried a older verision and the newest one but Kies still doesn´t let me upgrade.
Ive read a lot of threads and saw that it seems like the only way is to do it by using Odin. I read a bite in the big thread about this but i was thinking about one thing and that was if there is any better verision of flash now when android 2.2 has been out for so long? Could anyone please link me to wich files is at the moment best to use for upgradring to 2.2.
My other question is can i go from 2.1 to 2.3 directly or will this cause some problems? Is 2.3 officialy out or only in beta?
I have a swedish samsung galaxy S and verision PDA JM2 /PHONE JM1 and its not rooted. Please let me know if you need any more information.
Thanks a lot for the answers.
I suggest you wait Kies should soon have the official 2.3.3 firmware update .
That dont appear you can try alternative methods .

Hi in the FAQ u linked it´s a lot of info but nothing that i am searching for.
I really don´t believe in kies anymore because that program is the worst thing made.
Is there any realease date for the new KIES and has it been said that its going to fix bugs that prevents people from upgradring to 2.2?
I am thinking about going for darkys room for gingerbread verision but i don´t know if i can still be on 2.1 verision to upgrade to the newest verision.
Can also anyone answer on this question.. under programverision in the menu it says [email protected] what does that mean? Does it have anything to do with it being a swedish verision?
2.3.3 is not released so Kies cannot update something that does not exist on its servers .
Current methods of updating to unofficial 2.3.3 are all over the forum update via Odin non official firmware .

need to ask in Darky posts not something i would know about .

back to stock

Hi
I was on darky's rom 10.2 but i couldn't get along with that battery issue gingerbread has it and also wanted to go back to stock froyo. I flashed eclair XWJM7 (i read somwhere that is better to flash eclair first) in order to update through kies to FROYO. But when i connect to kies (it's the latest update) it says that "this version cannot be updated". I am from Romania and my network is Orange. I just want to have my phone back as it was when i bought it.
current firmware version: PDA:JM7 / PHONE:JM3 / CSC:JM1 (XEN)
please someone help me and thanks in advance
probably better to just flash the stock version your phone came with. then update from there.
k......only if i knew what stock version my phone came with. all that i know is that it was eclair.

Won't update from kies

So im trying to update my phone to android 2.3.5, currently it is on 2.3.3. Kies says that "this version of the file cannot be updated." I'm on pda zskf4, phone xxke4, csc eukd1.
If i update the rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278, it will change the kernel but my phone will still show 2.3.3. I tried flashing it back to stock to update from kies but it still says the same thing.
I bought my phone online, it is unlocked. It has been rooted.
Basically, i just want to update from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5

Suggestion: Do not use Kies to update, so many ppl got huge problems that kies stops around 80% and then phone semi/hard bricked to sent back at shop.
Anyway, changing kernel does NOT change your android version, you need a new firmware with 2.3.5, two options:
1. from intratech official firmwares forum, pick up ki3 or ki8 or ki4 to have official 2.3.5 (previous versions got 2.3.3) and follow the instrucions on the thread. This will give you a original unrooted 2.3.5 phone with stock firmware.
2. pickup one of the customs roms of this forum they almost all updated to 2.3.5+ (miui is on 2.3.7) and flash that, this give you a rooted phone with 2.3.5 or 2.3.7 firmware (follow the instruction from the custom rom thread)
Odin is super easy and fast. There are good guides here on xda. Samsung service uses Odin and it doesn't wipe your phone when updating. Took about 10 min to update.

UK retail Milestone 2 available to update 2.3?

UK retail Milestone 2 available to update 2.3 yet?
which SBF should we use?
For UK GB SBF look at there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19853860&postcount=341
But it's not possible to downgrade back to Froyo or to custom rom, you have been warned - now it is your choice

it's possible for you to change to other EURO 2.3.4. but impossible for stock froyo or any other custom rom (cm7/miui).
Concerning downgrade, we should try the procedure found by Defy owners.
They already had this downgrade problem (when they moved from Eclair to Froyo), and found a way to do it with a nandroid+sbf flashing. It should probabily work for us as well...
Take a look in defy section on xda, I'm a bit on a hurry and can't search for you right now...
Quick question: if my asian versioned MS2 installs this GB UK update, will it be able to use asian font app?
I am a UK Milestone 2 owner. When I got the phone, it had 70.12 bootloader and Froyo.
After the official Gingerbread update, I was able to go back to stock froyo, as well as custom froyo AND gingerbread ROMs, using RSD Lite, so have no fear - it's *NOT* impossible to go back.
What? Are you serious? Can you be more specific about it then. As far as we've already seen, nobody (except for you right now) was able to do downgrade from stock GB. It looks like you have some sort of magic M2 (no-efuse version)
I`ve read on this forum about engeneering versions of MS2..
this is probably such phone rather than magic
