X10i not turning on / charging - XPERIA X10 General

Hi guys,
Suddenly facing a strange problem since last night.
My x10i was running out of charge & i connected to the comp to charge while i was working. I noticed the charging speed was extremely low, so i restarted the phone to see if it would help. Did not.
Thought there is some problem with the cable, used a different cable as well, but no use.
The slow charging had stopped and eventually the phone died.
Tried connecting to the socket & charging, still no use.
The red led blinks when i connect the phone to a charger via the usb or the socket.
needless to say the phone does not even boot up now, obviously for no charge...
any ideas wat maybe wrong or wat i could do ?
please advice

Have you tried to let it charge for some time in off mode? As long as your battery is not dead, and the phone get the right voltage through the USB connector it should charge in an "emergency mode". This is a slow way of charging, but allows for charging without any electronic circuits to monitor it, it is not the same as the charging screen that usually displays when you connect the phone while it is powered off. Usually when a phone is completely discharged it needs to be connected at least 15 min, sometimes a lot longer, before the electronics kicks in, and starts the speedcharging.
My best advise would be to connect it to the mains charger, or a USB port you KNOW supplies power. Some laptops cut down on the powersupply to the USB ports when they run on battery. Let it be connected for a long time (several hours), and then try to power it on again.
If that does not help three things can be wrong
1. Somewhere the USB connection is broken, either in the cable or in the connector on your phone (or on the PC's connector, but that is less likely).
2. The battery is dead, modern batteries contain circuits that actually disables the battery when any given parameters gets outside the defined limits. This is to prevent the battery catching fire. On some batteries this renders the battery useless, and you need a new battery.
3.) The mainboard of your phone is dead, and hence nothing works, can be ruled out if you can borrow a battery from someone to test if your phone works then.
I hope a good and long charge can sort out your problem, that is the easiest fix, and it is free.

Hi O_K,
well, i have been charging (or trying to) the phone since it died last night.
i have used different chargers & different modes of charge (through the system & the wall socket) - no joy at all.
the LED blinks red a couple of times when connected.
Very occasionally, the SONY ERICSSON logo (startup) shows on the screen & it switches off again, back to the blinking.
So charging for a long time & through different chargers has not helped.
gonna try a different battery now to see if that can help.
Thanks for your response!

well, tried switching chargers & batteries.
The problem seems to be with the charging unit on the phone (USB)
with any charger or battery, wen connected the led blinks (like wen the phone is charging), but there is no charge happening.
eventually the phone dies, even if charging
any ideas?

There is a thread some where in this forum for fixing the same problem you have...I don't remember the exact name of the thread..if I find it I'll post the link here..Anyways what the guy did was
-Pull the battery out and connect the charger till the led turns green.
-put in the battery now and charge the phone...
and I think that was it.
Hope it helped..
EDIT: Found the link.

atom battery not getting charged

My atom is not getting charged. When i put it on ac adaptor it shows charging but even after 10 hoiurs the battery is empty and after removing from the power the phone shows main battery very low.
I tried charging thru laptop and same problem.
i have changed the battery also still the issue remains.
advice.
praveen
Yeah.. Atom behaves strangely sometimes.. In my case, some times when I switch on the bluetooth and try to charge it, It does not charge. But it seems to use the power coming from the charger to stay alive and operate normally (even if the battery is completely exhausted).
any suggestion how to make my atom charge
my xda atom started doing the same thing, I would plug it in and it would say that it's charging for about 5 seconds then the battery indicator would say full. Then I would unplug it and it would die out. I tried both charger & usb and the usb wouldn't work at all. So what I did is, I removed the battery let it sit for a minute. Put the battery back on and plugged the charger back in (without turning it on) and it's working. I was actually doing a search on this issue for the past couple of hours since this is the first time I've encountered this problem, but the phone seems to be charging now. I'll give everybody a update tomorrow to see if I have to keep taking out the battery everytime I want to charge it.
My problem is a bit different.
My Atom Exec charges with the USB cable synced to PC, and with one specific wall charger (specs: Input: 100-250V, Output: DC 5.5-12V, Max 1000mA, Min 150mA)
But it won't work with any other charger I try it with, even Universal charger I used to use with my HP iPaq. Is there some kind of trick to charging the Atom?
I as well have had this annoying problem happen a few times. I have a second battery and it happens with that battery as well so it has to be the Atom not 'reading the batteries' properly. As posted I have also found taking the battery our for a short time them putting it back seems to fix the problem untill it happens again
Try WM5torage. It will make your phone appear as a card reader in windows. Now pc will supply power to your device. Nice software trick.

Internal battery is very low!!! Need Help

Hi,
My wizard main battery (wiza16) was very low and the wizard stop with a message “The internal battery is very low”. After coming back home I have tried to charge but it is not taking charge and didn’t turn on anymore. I recently bought a new battery (wiza16, 3.7 VDC, 1250 mAH) thinking that it will work again but still the same problem, wizard is not taking charge or turn on.
Can anyone help me?? What can I do to start my wizard? Do I need to change the tiny little battery (which is inside the wizard)? Kindly help me.
Wizard service manual
Hi,
See if when you connect the power plug the led turns red, if yes....
If Charge light is red when plug in AC adapter, it means the main battery is not charge enough and can’t power on,
You just need to continue charge unit the light become Amber
If not, i think you have a problem.
Check if charger its working and if its pluged.

Wizard Battery discharge completely
Hi,
Thanks for quick reply. there is no light when i connect my wizard with PC. I don't have the AC charger, I have lost that for long and was using my PC usb to charge. trying to get one AC charger.
There was no problem with my wizard, just can't turn on after it's battery discharge completely. Even the new battery couldn't turn that on.
You'll need the original charger if the battery has complelty discharged as it will only charge from the computer if the phone is powered on.
This happened to me before.
There is a trick to giving the battery a quick charge which will give it enough juice to boot the phone up and allow it to charge from usb. its not recommended but works.
You will need a spare usb cable, cut one end of, strip the wires back and connect the red wire to + and the black to - on the battery, only do it for a short period, about 30 seconds while conneted to your computer.
You may need to give it a few 30 second bursts to give it enough juice.
Pop the battery back into the phone and switch it on while pugged into the PC
Took me a few attempts to get enough charge in the battery for it to boot up.
Wizard battery
You can also use a 9V battery to jumpstart your battery. But then you have to be more careful. I connected the 9v battery to my Wizard battery for about 15 seconds, then tried to start up my device. If not successful I started again with 15 seconds jumpstart..
But you can find more information here in the forum: just search for jumpstart or something similar....

Wizard Battery discharge completely
Thank you all for information. 9V battery method didn't work for me. Looking for AC charger online and get a link (http://www2.dustin.se/pd_5010073700.aspx). Do you think this is the right one? If yes, then I can order.
yea that's the right one but if you have a friend with a ppc or maybe a razor you can use there charger most ac adapters are starting to use mini usb just a way of saving some money even though having an ac adapter is good
could also try and get one of those usb plugs that you can plug up to a wall and plug in a usb cable into the slot
but don't take my word for this wit hmy wizard i haven't had it shut all the way day
if anybody can verify this would work
AC charger not also working
I have got the AC charger yesterday. When Connect the Ac charger first time the red light on my wizard showed for just half second then dissappear. Still let that connected for whole night but no response.
Thank you all for help.
@Keland44, most Razr chargers dont work, they MUST be at least 850mA in order for the Wizard's battery to receive anything. The older Razr chargers are sometimes as low as 350mA, but the never ones are as high as 1.2A, so you need to read the label on the charger itself to be sure.

Yup that is about right,
If the battery is complelty dead, then you need to original charger.
If you have got the right charger and you get a red light and it goes off. your phone might have a problem.
This happened to my last wizard after stupidly trying to dry out the screen after getting it wet which stopped the touchscreen working (i was drying it out while the phone was still on) well my wizard crashed.
Took ages to get it back on but it was very unreliable then one day, it wouldnt go on and charger done nothing. Unpluging and pluging the charger in several times got a red light on.
Sometimes i could get it to turn on, the charger would charge for about 5 minutes then the phone would die soon after.
Your phone might possibly be bricked.

HTC TyTN does not charge anymore.... Need Help

Hi Guys
I have a problem with my TyTN at the moment.
My device is not charging.
Yesterday i put it in my Docking Station and wait a little time.
But Now the Tynt isnt charged.
I think ist a Problem with my TyTN Hardware.
I have all Power Supplys used they i have, but it doesent work.
Can you help me?
Its this a problem with the accu or a fuse on the circuit ?
Sorry for my broken english i hope you understand me.
Regards Patrik Laube
Hello,
first of all, try to soft reset the device.
If it fails, hard reset it.
If it doesn't work, go the service center.
Good luck
The above advice is fine. But you did not say if any of the LEDs are lit.
Do you get the red NO CHARGE LED?
Does your phone operate normally except for not charging?

Hello
My Phone is working fine but i cant charge it with the original HTC adapter.
I must load the accu with a special loader.
USB and Charge dont work....
And i have no warranty I cant send it to my operator.
When i plug in the USB Cable it doesent make everthing.
I think it was a to high voltage on the USB or the USB Ground ( - ) had a electrical Power for a litte moment.
Have you an idea?
Thanks for yur help.

I had a similar problem, which was sorted by a new rom, but I ascertained it was software problem when I realised it charged when powered off.

hi,
try this: when your device is connected via usb, tab on the battery icon in the taskbar on you device, go to the register "advanced" and check/uncheck "When Device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the pc"
thats it

I'm having an issue along these lines, also.
My phone has been working fine untill the other night when I tried to charge it via the wall electrical outlet. It will not charge at all, the battery has been drained to nothing and I can't turn it on. The yellowish light doesn't turn on when I plug it in like it used to.
I don't know if this is a battery issue or an issue with the USB connection inside of the phone. On a side note, when it did have power and I tried to connect it to the USB via the PC; it didn't work. The phone was on, but the computer didn't even notice the phone was plugged in. That leads me to believe it would be a connection issue; but I'm not quite sure.
If anyone has anything they can add to this I would appreciate it, thank you.
P.S. Bringing it to a service center is a bit out of the question in the mean time seeing as it was bought on eBay and funds are limited for the time-being.

Hello, I cannot find the "When Device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the pc" in my device. My Rom is WM6.1 CE OS 5.2.20273 cooked by dvha79_ddt.

About your Battery Issue.
I'll tell you exactly why ur phone isnt charging anymore... If you have been charging it alot on the USB or pretty much any!! charging on the USB u have killed ur battery, never charge your phone on the USB it kinda sucks they should make these phones able to be Sync'd thru USB without a battery cause these batteries should not be powered thru the USB over Time... from syncing to your pc will kill these batteries i have noticed that when u sync this Tytn Ithru USB and the device is at say 70% it charges up to 100% pretty fast i would recommand to you and anyone who reads this dont sync your TYTN or any HTCC phone for to long to the USB Cause it will Trash your batteries Life down the road... Hope this was HELPFUL.
Cheers

^I'm having the same problem with my herm200. I did the soft reset, hard reset changed ROMs but still the same problem. I don't think it's the usb connector because if it is it wouldn't have been able to charge the phone even if it's turned off. Before I'm able to charge it turned on but it would take a few minutes before the orange led turns on, but when I use the phone or if I receive a text the orange led would turn off it's like the charger disconnects but after a few minutes it would go back again. Now it just wouldn't charge turned on, sometimes it gets worse where it just wouldn't charge on or off.
Now I'm already planning to buy an external battery charger.

Are you using an official 1000mA charger? (Not a 500mA one) 500mA ones work, but they are under-powered and can cause strange behaviour, like not charging whilst turned on or whilst on a call. Similar problems can be found with car-chargers that will not charge until the device is soft reset.
Mike
^no it's not the official charger, I have this usb wall charger called Power Juice (phone and mp3 charger).
Input Voltage: AC100-240V
Output Voltage: 5V
Output Current:1000mAh
Do you think it's because I'm not using the original charger?
fixed my charging problems
The boyfriend told me to try a new cable for my charger so he bought me a 5pin usb cable, tried it at home and it worked! I still need to turn off the screen sometimes but that's ok at least I don't have to turn off the phone anymore. Now my battery charges less than 3 hours.
Hold both SoftKeys and Then press the Power button
Or you can also hold both softkeys and then put your stylus into the reset hole.
answer why it does not charge through the usb
Sorry for the very very late response. Under electrical legislation all hand held electrical devices must be insulated and fused. Some of the chargers that you can purchase are sealed without fuse which indicates that the phone has a fuse contained within its circuitry (or there may be 2 fuses one in each device) .
The problem you have encountered is that you have connected your phone to a computer or mains supply to charge. There has been a surge in the electrical supply either on connection or by un-connecting from these supplies (e.g. connect to the computer as it is booting would see a 65w signal through the USB) and this more often than not blows the fuse which sits on the PCB (printed circuit board) just after the usb connection internally to the phone.
you can either have the fuse fixed for 20/25 gbp or you can purchase a new circuit board or you can use an external charger for the battery. As it is only the power input point that is faulty.
hope this helps
Since we are at this non-charging & battery issue, I would like to ask this question on the D838pro. My battery won't charge even after 24 hours of charging. The red LED blinks thru the whole process. The LED did not turn on to orange or green. It is the battery problem because my spare battery works well. I would like to know what is wrong with the battery as I am willing to strip down the battery. Could it be the battery circuit or wiring that had fired?

Never tried stripping down a battery, some things... well, just don't seem worth it. However as a learning exercise it might be interesting. Without lots of testing on a good battery with a multimeter then I have no clue what the readings should be between all the contacts. (Now there's a little job for you) It is as likely the internal structure of the battery is screwed as it is to be a wiring problem.
If you solve it you can certainly report back here

Battery drained out totally while connected to PC

This morning I almost got a shock because my X1 stayed black and seemed to be totally dead. Luckily I soon figured out that the Battery was empty, no currrent left on it to let the device even blink. But what happened? When I went to bed yesterday I connected it to the USB cable and left it charging! Everything seemed the same as all the times before. What may have caused this?
Only things that were diffrent from my usual charging procedure:
The Cable were connected to the PC USB Slot.
I shut the PC (laptop in this case) down but the USB Slots had still power. The charging lights of my X1 followed their normal pattern.
Normally I unplug the power cable from PC to prevent the USB Slots to have power. Because my USB harddisk keeps rotating while having power from the USB.
Normally I charge the X1 directly from the power outlet. X1 turned off.
So this time PC was off. X1 was off. USB Slots still got power. X1 connected with USB Slot. X1 seemed to charge normally.
Well, the result was that my X1's Battery was totally empty the next morning. Obviously instead of charging the USB slot drained of the whole battery power! But note that the charging lights were active as normal and the Battery was still warm in the morning.
Perhaps this helps others to prevent such issues.
you are crazy if you:
1. charges from laptop
2. from powered OFF device
you can repeat this case endless - xperia will be drained

Don't charge it in standby mode, how stupid is that?
What? I don't see any reason not to charge it from a laptop. Even if it's powered off, as long as the USB ports have power (mine has a BIOS setting for this) there is nothing wrong with that.
Also, what does it matter if you're charging the phone powered off or powered on?
On an interesting note, however, the same thing actually happened to me last night.
I plugged the phone into the wall socket to charge it (battery was at about 20%) and I actually saw the battery percentage rise as I was still using the phone. I turned it on in the morning (from standby, not powered off), and as soon as I pulled the power cable it went dead as the battery was completely empty.
I have no idea what might have caused this, and it hasn't happened to me before.
Next time dont power off ur X1,
if same happends then your battery is suffed.

It is weird. Since your phone was off I don't think it would use any of its battery power.
I have a ThinkPad, and IIRC the BIOS setting is something like "Always On USB", in the USB settings. With this turned on the laptop will power its USB ports even when turned off, as long as the laptop itself has the power cable connected.

from powered off PC, when power on usb enough to wakeup PC or feed LEDs,
but not to charge another device. in that case power go into the weaker side, means from x1 -> pc
I had this problem too... seems after hard resetting my phone one time, one option was different to normal after I hard reset,
Click on the battery icon at the top of the screen
Theres a tick box, that says:
"When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC."
this was ticked for some reason. Unticked it, and all was fine.
Try it
I noticed this happened to me too for the first time, after i put in the wall charger and the the phone seemed to charge, i found it completely dead after 3 hours and the battery was warm, running a vanilla R1A

Also I think for the X1 to charge- it requires activesync. from my experience, when connected to the pc- without activesync, the X1 would indicate charging- but never actually gets charges. Hence when your notebook is off, activesync obviously wouldn't be running-> no charge either.

I assume a turned off PC would only power its USB port power pins and wouldn't respond to any transmissions on the data pins. So to the phone it should look just the same as if it were connected to the wall charger (just probably with a bit less power).
Also, when I have my phone connected to my laptop through USB Internet Sharing it does actually charge (it doesn't connect to ActiveSync when using Internet Sharing).
The device should charge in any USB mode as the USB port's power pins supply power regardless of the protocol used on the data interface.
Does the X1 have no safety feature that does prevent the battery from being drained?
In my case I assumed it happened because of the USB Port had too less power. But when you turn off your PC (+USB power) and let the X1 connected it would still mean a movement of current from the X1 Battery --> inside the PC as long as they are not on the same potential. If the PC is earthed somewhere (for example connected to the wall socket) the Battery would be drained out totally! They never get to the same potential as long the Battery has power.
As jjm34 mentioned, if the PC is on and USB slots powered normally the X1 should charge in any case.
Maybe this is not the real cause of the problem. People are reporting that the X1 got drained while connected to the wall charger! That's really weird. How can the battery being drained by this? Any suggestions @Ethermind ?

Mine has. Put it on the wall charger and the charging symbol is there. It reaches 100%, the charging symbol disappears and it shows 100. Then in the morning it's at 90% even though it was still on the wall charger.
I've not left it plugged into a 'running' pc or laptop long enough to see if the phone runs off the battery after it's reached 100%, but it shows the same symptoms. Charging symbol until 100%, then it changes to 100%, no more charging symbol.
Even MSVC stops reporting '% & charging', just reports the % level once it's reached 100%.
I made 2 observations :
It seems the X1 need usb data pins active to charge the battery. The wall plug has something enabled to give power to the data pins (by the way, the wall plug can charge an iPod or an iPhone, it works perfectly). I tried using a cheap wall plug bought in china, no way to charge the X1 or my iPod as there was no power on the data pins. So when connected to an off PC, I'm not sure what's happening. If someone can give a try to analyze this with a multimeter, that would be nice.
It seems also the X1 stop charging after going to 100 %, and won't charge anymore unless you unplug - replug it.
Thanks for your contribution.
Maybe there exists a real hardware failure.
Normally the X1 should charge until the Battery reaches the 100% level. Then there has to be a switch that prevents the Battery from getting overloaded which is good. So charging stops.
The switch blocks charging until you unplug the device once it has reached the full battery level. Thats ok, too. You should not loose much Battery after a full charge and with a device on standby or powered off. And it prevents the Battery getting reloaded at high percentages. Otherwise it would start charging at 99% and stop again at 100 and so on, all the time.
But now assume the switch has sometimes, somehow a failure.
Instead of preventing current to get inside the battery it enables that current can flow into the wall charger.
I do not expect that the current flows into the power outlet. Maybe it gets "lost" in the current transformer that you've plugged into the power outlet (Thats the one you plugged the USB cable in.). Lost means it simply gets warm / hot.
Measuring the current with a Multimeter would be a nice proof. If someone has the technical knowledge and qualification to disassemble the current transformer and the USB cable, you have the go .
I haven't tested it, but I doubt the current flows back into the charger, or back into the USB port on a laptop / pc.
But how does the Battery discharge then? When there is no current flowing out it will stay loaded. (it goes like d(q)/dt+div(j)=0 )
Did you all charge your phone while it is on (standby)? I noticed the same problem when I charged my x1 while it is standby. When I pull the plug from my laptop (I used my laptop for charging, laptop powered on), I get 90% battery life. It seems like there is a switch to cut out the power input if the battery reaches 100% and power the phone from the battery.
Try to charge your phone while it is off. I did it yesterday, and it had stopped charging even before I unplug it from wall output, and I got 100% battery life.
Btw, this is not confirmed yet... it is just based on my experience...

[Q] Defy Charging problem

Hi,
Motorola Defy (MB525) with CyanogenMod 7.2 stable, original battery.
I bought it almost two years ago second handed, it should have now around three years.
Using the original wall charger, it does not charge the phone anymore.
The log shows a lot of lines like
Code:
I/usbd ( 1048): main(): Spurious Cable Event, Ignore
I reboot the phone but it didn't change anything.
I change cable and charger and the behaviour is the same.
The wall charger charges good other phones.
Now the phone is completely discharged.
I plugged in the wall charger and the led turns on white, the os starts but it turns off after few seconds.
Now I'm using a usb cable connected directly to a computer and the phone is off, only led white on.
After a while (5-10 minutes) the phone turns automatically on, it starts normally. But the phone doesn't see the charger.
Plug out the cable and plug in again (connected to the pc).
Now it's charging, but after a while (a couple of minuts) it turns off and there's only the white led on.
After a while (5-10 minutes again) the phone turns automatically on, it starts normally. The phone sees the charger (red led on), but it seems to me, that the charging rate of the bar is way too fast.
Some time ago (1-2 months), it happened something similar, but the phone was charging with the usb cable connected to the laptop.
After that the wall charger charged the phone. A couple of times it didn't work but I charged the phone via usb pc and later the charger was working again.
No visible damage to the micro-usb port of the phone.
The question is, is it the battery or (as I suspect) is the electrical part / usb problem of the phone?
If so, what is a reasonable expected cost of repair (I'm in Germany)... I'm afraid that it will cost more than 50€... then, is it better to move to another phone?
Thank you very much,
Giuseppe
[EDIT]
The charging rate (with the usb cable connected to the pc) is normal. The phone is working normally

Try buying a new battery/cable/charger from eBay. You will have a new phone for less than $10.
You can also install another rom.

Did you read the full message?

The rom should not be the issue, as it was previously working (for more than 1 year) and otherwise would be a common problem, unless you're more specific...
Anyway in this moment everything is working good... but I expect that at some time I will have the same behaviour... that is phone not charging with any wall charger but charging through a computer.
If so, I will try then to make some other tests (I read somewhere to try to deactivate usb debug mode) and I'll report.
Giuseppe
