[Q] sky player on the vega? - Vega General

Hi
I got my vega a couple of days ago and ive got to say the info on this site has been awesome in getting me on the go with android market etc but ive just tried to go on my sky player and it says i need to download the silverlight (or something like that!!) but it doesnt seem to support it.
Does anyone know a way around it? Could do with an idiots guide really as im not over clued up on all the lingo!!!
Thanks in advance for any help given
Bazzaboy18

there is no silverlight on android so no way around it fella.
the closest you will get to silverlight is monodroid that is a cross platform sdk for c# development, the thing is sky player's drm doesnt allow it to work on anything but Microsofts silverlight never mind linux or android

I thought this might be the case, never mind, thanks for the reply.
I have just tried to watch something on the bbc iplayer and the picture quality was fairly poor anyway tbh, not sure the vega would be up to watching films on which is what i'd have done thru sky player.
Thanks again.

Lets help eachother enjoy the X1 even more. What do you do on your X1?

I just got my X1, and the lag has got me down a bit :\
However, I'm still sure that its a great phone, and has tons of potential.
The thing is... before I got the phone, I had so many ideas of what I wanted to do with it. But now that I have it... I'm completely blank o_o
What have you guys been doing with your X1s?
How are you enjoying it?

The first thing is forget about the stock rom and try some cooked rom.
lol, well this is my first winmo phone, so I really dont know what I'm doing
No clue how to flash a new ROM and dont wanna risk bricking my phone by screwing up >.>
In addition to the regular texting and im'ing. I use it to listen to music watch movies, do quick editing on office suites, streaming with orb. Also used for taking photos and videos and uploading to facebook.
It all comes down to the apps I suppose.
Satnav
Podcasts (stupid word for audio streams)
RSS feeds
VNC
Minutes manager
Telemarketing blocker
C# IDE
It's like a little computer. There's not much it can't do. TV on demand would be nice.

Yep, and pRSSreader will do all your podcasts if you enable 'download enclosures' in the settings.

That is awesome!!! Being a .Net developer myself, i'm excited to try this one out...
the best thing i do is to unlock everything on my rom without flash them so i dont have to void my warrenty and got touch flo 3d pannel, coreplayer to watch high quality movies, i got a 16gb to store all of them!
I currently use on my X1:
-Subsembly FinPhone (real mobile banking from all over the connected world)
-TTQV Pathaway (Moving Map and GPS Tracking Software)
-Basic4ppc Version 5.80 (BASIC IDE for PPC)
-complex Pocket Excel sheets i.e. for forecasts, financial calculations,
budgeting, event planning
And: I'd really like to try vsNotepad (by VirtualSpaghetti) but it suffers from an uncalibrated UI

Wow, sounds like you guys are all doing such professional things with your X1s
Im still trying to get used to mine and finding the right programs..
Where do you guys find your programs? Ive only looked at places like handango and getjar.
I use the following
Online:
Orb
Logmein
Windows Live Mesh
Google Maps
Offline:
Tomtom
Coreplayer
Resco File Explorer
Worms (awesome game)

Well it's a C# IDE. Very nice too. Get it from here, and see what you think. It doesn't need to be installed: it just runs.
Speaking of cool apps for PocketPC, PocketBlender is a great idea, but I find it unfinished and unstable. Does anyone know of other free CAD viewers?
TrackMe is nice. Again, I'd be interested to hear of alternatives since Trackme depends on .net and an SQLserver.
Nicetrack looks to be brilliant, but it doesn't work on the X1. Apparently only a minor source-code tweak is needed to fix this.

I just think what I want, then enter it into a search engine along with the words "for Windows Mobile" or "for PocketPC"

This seems like a good place to mention OBD II on the X1. Somewhat of a challenge since we need to use the MicroSDIO for a comm interface, and www.obd2cables.com have a minimum order of 250pc for custom cables. OBD II is the thing which mechanics use to look at what's gone wrong with your car. I've not had any luck starting topics on the subject.
Nice one Pyrojester
I didn't realise LogMeIn was available for windows mobile. Now I can work while i'm away from work/home.

I use it to access VNC computers or remote desktops. It's quite useful for FTP access too.
You can do pretty much what you want with it.
Though WVGA is great for VNC, remote desktop, FTP browsing, Corecodec, Xnview, TomTom, MSN (IM), and of course mails.
nothing as i amm still trying hard to tweak it LOL

[Q] Freeview TV guide app for WinMo?

I noticed that there was an iphone app for browsing the freeview tv schedule in the UK. Has anyone found something similar for windows mobile devices? Or do you know of any program that has the ability to download weekly updates for tv viewing? It would be nice to have an app for this.
In a totally separate question, has anyone found any Mpeg-4 usb tv sticks that can receive the new Freeview HD signals yet? I've used an mpeg-2 stick for a while and synced programs to my blackstone before, but would like to upgrade to a new HD stick. I've written to a few main players in this market, ie. Hauppuage, and they say that they won't have a product out until just before the world cup.
As an alternative perhaps someone knows of an RSS feed for the guide info?
There is one called On TV v1.31 uk, but you can't store the listings,I'm looking for one like that.

The pics aren't loading on that msmobiles site for me, and I can't see that working on the HD.
And I've already scoured google to a depth of 20 pages or so with little success.
I've started attempting to write a little program to do the things I wanted with it. As I suck at programming it's going to take a while, but if I ever get it finished i'll post it on here.
I hadn't tried this site on my HD until now, but it actually formats fantastically on the HD (on Opera, both vertical and horizontal):
http://www.tvcatchup.com/guide.html
If you sign up, you can then watch the channels, but as it's flash its only watchable on the PC, unwatchable on the HD

[Q] android really faling here

coming from wm6.1 and having the streak for one day..i feel really a bit disappointing.
the screen is great, it's fast but..the mean purpose of the streak is surfing and multimedia.
so after one day of testing.
stock 1.6..i don't think 2.1 is better.
-lost my streak icon in explorer..so no exchange of files possible..it there under usb in the manage pc tab..but i don't see it in explorer and others
only a icon showing up in the streak saying...scanning existing media files..and it stays there.
- no bluetooth connection possible to the pc..not recognized..all my other devices had no problem with it..nokia, htc etc
- no streaming possible..not recognizing the format (codec), so no orb stream, no tversity streams, no direkt stream from the server (only one or two formats).
really horrible.
- no wifi connection to pc, only to router. tried everything.
damn if i coult port wm6.1 to this device, it would be a super mini mobile computer.
some things could be done but it takes ages to find the right app for it.
the pc connection is the biggest problem for now, been seaching for 4 hours on differend forums and nope...no solution yet.
some idea's or solutions please
EDIT: found the solutions..thanks all..damn the big screen is incredible
Right - it may just be that your windows drivers aren't set up correctly. Did you install the dell suite?
If you are on 2.1 you need the upgraded suite from the dell site. Also you may need to muck around with the drivers
see parts 1 to 1.14 step 11 from
Link:http://android.modaco.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=64083
for a good explanation. Also make sure you have clicked on the status bar and selected the option to copy files to and from the computer otherwise the pc wont see the sd card.
Ad hoc networking only works on Steves 2.2 (froyo) build release 1. Which has the advantage of being a lot faster as well and it has flash.
AS for streaming media -I'm not sure what you need for that - I copy to SD card and watch using rockplayer, I have seen people discussing streaming and all I remember is that people were using mp4 files, but not which program they were using.
~I think you have to remember this is a new os to you so think how confusing windows was on the first day you tried it. Android becomes second nature after a few days.
Good luck - and stick with it, I'd never go back now...
i try
i can see my dell on the pc now..after 2 hours searching
i installed websharing so i could transfer files to and from the phone.
the streaming is important cause i have a server with a tv-card running..so i could stream recording to the dell and other pc's around the house. Also all my donloaded movies are on that server.
i installed yxplayer ..pffff, makes me feel happy again..plays divx, xvids etc withoud a hitch.
still no luck with streams..but i keep searching and will reply if i find a solution.
now i have to find a decent app for making folders disappear in the pictures and video app..so i can keep the private pictures private in one app and see them in another app
@ Kasperkie
Like a lot of people coming from windows to android their lack of knowledge about android seems to think that android is no good
Once you have had android for a while i will be very surprised if you feel the same
To me going from android back to wm6.1 would be like going from windows 7 to windows 98
Knowledge is a great thing and would recommend you read all the tutorials on the site
If you are saying that you upgraded to 2.1 and lost your pc connection, Dell released an upgraded version of the PC Suite that solves that issue.
Android takes some time to learn. More so from a nuts and bolts (hacker) view than just the general UI. However, I've found it gets progressively easier when you take time to understand ADB and the basic linux structure of Android.
Winmo, in my opinion, is way easier to grasp from a newbie perspective.

[Q] Canvas Rider for android

Hello,
This is may first post, and i will get a new HTC Desire and i have searched the cloud for canvasrider for android, android can already run HTML5 and flash, canvasrider was rebuild to run on HTML5 and it actually runs on android, and the deal here is that you can see it but not controll it, i would really appreciate that someone do some sort of controls or even an app of it, but the easiest i think would be a certain plugin or something to get controls on the webbrowser and with that be able to play canvasrider and even other flash/HTML5 games, but this thread is focused in canvasrider wich is a really good game and would be awesome if it would be on android.
Touche! im very addicted to it.

Windows on Advent Vega

Hello im new to android i have a advent vega but will love it to have some sort of windows on it if anyone has any ideas or if this is possible please post thanks
Apparently the next version of Windows will be able to run on ARM processors such as the Tegra 2 in the Vega. I doubt it'll end up on the Vega, though someone might port it over.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
If we do get windows on vega, would be able to install windows software such as skype, msn etc i probaly guess so but please correct if im wrong
I would be very surprised if windows will ever come to our vegas. Memory i would say is the main issue, xp would be the only one able to run with 512mb of ram, and that has poor touch screen support. I am running windows 7 with 1gb of ram (min system req) on my laptop, and it runs very slow. As far as i am aware even the netbook version needs 1gb. Be happy with android.
I wasn't really talking about windows 7 (although i would like that) but windows CE or windows mobile.
PS . As I said I only want it for the software.

Won't ever happen, windosws mobile is all closed source. Android is much better anyway, just get used to it
Agreed, winmob on the vega prob wont occour.
I too, miss some great apps and games which doubtfully will ever appear on andriod. The android gaming community, seems a little shallower than the wince lot.
I stll keep my htc touch and diamnd 2 specifically because of this.

android
i think if we can get android 3.0 (or whatever the numbers will be) on our vega's, its more then enough to have enough fun with it, an operating system that does not thing its a smartphone and optimized for tablets. i used many android smartphones before, but using even 2.2 on vega is more fun then any smartphone i think, at least you can read web sites and not harm your eyes
PS : i have a joojoo tablet too, which runs win7 and i think android is better and faster on a tablet like vega ( tegra2 tabets).
Some of the cheap import tablets like the Zenithink ZT-180 have roms for WinCE - but from what I have read nobody really uses them since even WinCE is pretty poor as a tablet OS (well, that and the ZT-180 is pretty rubbish!).
as a student you can get the windows embedded 7 development kit for free, that should be able to run on the advent vega but my knowledge isnt yet sufficient to build and deploy a rom in order t test it
I honestly don't understand this kind of question:
You have Windows a system built for PCs and to be operated specific using keyboard and mouse.
And then you have Android a system built for mobile devices to be operated specific with a touch screen.
I guess the question is not IF it's possible, but WHY in a hell would anyone even bother porting it?
Do you miss msn and skype? I got news for you, just download Skype and eBuddy from the market. Solved!

What about office tools? i have yet to find a decent word processor that retains all (or most) of word's features.
sadly, while gdocs looks lovely, writing documents is still a pain..
Although I also wish that I could do some serious work on my tablet / smartphone, you simply can not do it (too small screen => primarily wasn't meant for this kind of job, but it's great in mobility and therefore "valuable information on the go").
Tablets & smartphones are used to consume / present information and PCs / workstations are used to generate that information.
I have also tried all kind of Office software (QuickOffice HD, Polaris Office, Docs To Go, GDocs,...), but reality is that generating information on Android is 30-50% slower than on a 20" monitor with keyboard & mouse hooked on a PC.
Yes, you could make a new office software on Android that would need a keyboard, mouse & external monitor, but that would defeat the purpose of mobility.
And sadly there is no such good software on Android with so many funtionalities that are found in Microsoft Office.
IMHO you can do up to 30 minutes of work without problems, for anything above that, please do yourself a favor and use a PC.
This something that may interest you. Only on ipad as of now, but I am sure will be on android soon.

Yes, I already heard of that tech.

Yani, its a good app, have you tried? I will use this all the time when I use my Vega during work. I find the windows apps quite poor on Android (I uses docs to go). This is great for reading and creating basic files. There are a few problems I have found so far.
1. The UI is not really designed for touch screen, I used with my docking station, keyboard and mouse but still was hard to click on the right part due to the alignment being off slightly on the mouse pointer.
2. Docs saved to the virtual desktop can be downloaded from a site called files.onlive.com. However when you try to access this site it says 'only available in USA'. So might be a nightmare to get off what you have created.
What do you think?

Sorry, but I haven't used this myself.
If you read my signature, I'm still on stock Froyo and this app needs at least Gingerbread.
I've read only good things about this.
I use QuickOffice for documents, but I only view documents, and these android office apps aren't even good at that!
But I've tried OnLive (for gaming) on SGS and it's amazing!!!!111one
Now to get some answers for your questions:
1. I think you need to restart your OnLive desktop in order to fully accept your mouse&keyboard input.
2. I went to https://desktop.onlive.com/account/myfiles and uploaded a doc file and then redownloaded it without a problem. I'm from Slovenia - EU and I've used Firefox on a PC with Ubuntu/Linux OS.
