Battery - EVO Shift 4G General

I upgraded to the Evo Shift from the Touch Pro 2, and found out that the batter from the TP2 fits in the Evo Shift (flipped) and actually gives me better battery life. Interesting find I thought I would share just in case anyone else upgraded the same way.

I also came for the rhodium don't you miss the keyboard and the keyboard of that phone? But then again the speedness elevates that out

don't get me started haha. I think the biggest thing I miss is the spacious keyboard and definitely the dedicated number row. The speed makes up for it and the touch keyboard works better on this phone for me too.

It fits in your phone without any modifications?

Yes, TP2 batteries fit the shift w/o modification. You can't go the other way around, though, because the Shift (and similar new) batteries have extra notches on one side that prevent them from fitting the TP2.

Isn't the stock TP2 battery 1500mAh as well? How is that an improvement?
The only one I think would actually be an improvement is http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Extended-Li-Ion-Battery-RHOD170/dp/B002Y24MJ2
which is 2150mAh but it looks a lot fatter than our battery.

I never claimed it was an improvement, OP did. I was just answering your question about whether it fits. I don't believe there is an extended battery door yet for the Shift. If Seidio feels demand is high enough, they may create one.

It won't work. If you look at the picture, notice the contacts. If you flip the battery, the terminals on the phone won't make contact with the battery terminals. If the battery terminals were the width of the battery, it would work. Good luck with making a cover.

Their site says coming soon.

I came from the HeroC. Its battery works in the Shift too. Very convenient, though certainly no improvement when you swap one 1500mAh for another... unless you got a bad battery with your new phone.

Sorry didn't mean to accuse you. I just blindly pressed the reply button near the bottom. I guess it quoted you. I'm not used to browsing xda from my laptop haha.

I got it to fit the other way around, just have to give it a little 'push'.
My mom has a tp2 and I wanted to try it ^^ so we switched batteries for a day and it was about the same.

My battery on TP2 worked better for me, not sure how or why. And as stated it fits u flip it over and it makes contact. I looked on Sprint's site, they sell a battery that claims to fit a few Android phones including the shift and tp2.

After coming from the original EVO I've been so happy with the stock battery life that I haven't seen a need to play around with other batteries. This thing lasts all day easily so that's good enough for me.

LOL no worries. That's why I put in the smiley. Was just having some fun.
Back to a general comment, the problem with "spare" 1500mah batteries for the Shift is that the back is so hard to get on/off, I can't really see myself carrying a spare and swapping it out like I used to do on other phones. I would definitely consider an extended battery (real extended, as in physically larger, not one of those fake "it's got higher capacity but same size" things). But unless the phone is really popular, you often only get one option for an extended battery and it turns your phone into the 21st-century equivalent of a bag phone. If the phone started as thin as the EVO it might be less of a trade-off, but with the keyboard it's already about as thick as I'd like it to be.

agreed, OP here and I must admit I thought it was awesome to have a spare.. but in the end, its just another batter most of the time. I hate taking the back off, I feel like its going to break.

Somebody posted a mugen 3600mah battery link from ebay in the accessories subforum here. Sounds pretty huge, but it's an option.

htc rafael 2400 or mugen 3000 battery for fuze?

The $2400 is $21 on eBay and the Mugen is $80.
The Rafael obviously seems like the better deal. How can anyone justify an additional 600mAh for $60??
Has anyone used the Rafael and what kind of case did you get for your thicker phone?
Mugen 3000mAh
I'll bite; I sprung for the Mugen 3000mAh battery. I think it's great (it comes with it's own battery cover, and admittedly does make the phone significantly more bulky).
I'm not a typical user even for these forums. I routinely tether my laptop to my phone via bluetooth for laptop internet access (two thumbs up for unlimited data plans) and I actually get quite usable speeds (I'm using that setup right now). Plus, I can send and receive calls at the same time. Also, I've got two accounts in the Pocket Outlook, and I've got Flexmail 4 with about 6 or 7 email accounts that sync throughout the day. In addition to that, I use spreadsheets and word documents on it as well as voice calls. So, frankly, I'll take all the power I can get!
When I take it to the gym, I use my Seideio (sp?) 2000mAh battery because it's a lot slimmer and does great with by bluetooth headphones (and I use it as an mp3 player; I'm not one of those types that talks on their phone the entire time they're supposed to be "working out"!).
So if you have to have all the power you can get, like I do, it's not that big of a sacrifice in size for the extra 600mAh. It does make a difference late in the day. Just my $0.02 though.
Good stuff BPB21.
What kind of case do you use for the 3000, if any at all?
Thanks for your help.
Cases
That's an interesting question. Typically I just keep it in my coat pocket at work, or pants pocket otherwise without a case. I've got one of those "Invisible Shield" screen protectors that has protected it even from my cat's claws (touch screen wasn't meant for cats, but no harm done). So typically I don't use a case.
However, I was just looking for some kind of waterproof case, I mean completely waterproof, for when I potentially go rafting and/or rock climbing. I can't vouch for any yet, but I've heard good things about the "Otterbox" cases. I don't plan on actually using the device while in the water of course, but it might be necessary to keep it with me. I'm kinda compulsive about that with my phones. So, as for cases, that remains to be seen. I think the Seidio 2000mAh battery would fit most anything (I don't know about the 2400mAh, but I'm sure I'll own one soon) as it really doesn't add much size at all to the phone. As for the Mugen 3000 mAh, well, I don't know what that would fit in. That battery and case make the phone a total of one inch thick the entire length of the phone. The Seidio battery and cover only add about 1/8th inch thickness in a 1&1/2" width and 1&1/4th" length on the back of the phone.
Anyway, if I find something good I'll post here; but for everyday use just the screen protector works well enough for me.
IF anyone has any suggestions for this battery and a case, i'd be grateful and interested as well. the stock cover that comes from mugen is crap with a capital C. it keeps sliding off.
I 2nd that...
This is true; it is really easy to knock the Mugen cover off. The one saving grace about that cover's design is that even if the cover comes loose you don't necessarily take the battery with it (at least in my experience). I would be interested if anyone can find a cover that fits the 3000 mAh battery. (I mean, other than the submersible Otterbox cases - those fit, but you can't really use the device...)
The phone (with a standard battery fitted) just fits into an otterbox 1000, which is the cheapest one they do. I got the transparent one but the phone screen is obscured. I keep it in the box whilst I work outside, with a waterproof bluetooth headset. It's a tough box.

I've actually taken the phone skiing (well, I didn't buy it a lift ticket or anything). It was in my ski jacket pocket (and I tend to do runs more advanced than I am) and despite my sometimes dramatic falls the phone held up well. So it's a pretty durable device, but I wouldn't do that every day with it.
Speaking of that Otterbox - I was looking at the same thing and trying to measure it from the given inside dimensions. Which way does it just barely fit: length, width, or thickness? I would think the phone would be just a bit too long for the case, but hopefully not? And then, if I had the Seidio 2000mAh battery (which adds maybe 1/8" thickness, if that) installed would that fit as well?
Otterbox 1900
Hi. I own an otterbox 1900. I´ve used it a lot with my Axim and after that with my Eten m700. I took it rafting, dirt biking on the mountains and snowboarding many times. You can charge the device while in the box, and use the device while keeping it protected by a clear rubber membrane.
The Fuze fits easy inside, but I have the stock cover and battery.

I bought one, I have it and it makes your phone look like a brick. hey, the Battery will last days but it is just Huge.
Big batteries
I've got the 3000mAh battery (by the way, I saw the 2400mAh battery on eBay; how does its size compare with the 3000mAh battery?). I use my phone heavily, all day. I'll connect it with my laptop via bluetooth to use internet sharing, sometimes I'll be talking on the phone at the same time, and I heavily use email on the phone, plus Word and Excel files and internet browsing, plus occassional testing and configuring of wifi routers using the phone's wifi, all on a given day. I'm not always near a charger so for me I need all the power I can get, even if it is only an extra 600mAh.
On the other hand, people routinely ask me "what is thbat?" (or more accurately, "what the hell is that?") when they see my brick of a phone. So yeah, it does make it quite bulky compared to even the 2000mAh battery. But if you're a power user and need all the extra you can get then it is worth it.
I complained to the guys at nakedcellphone.com and the guy sent me a new cover for the Mugen battery, have to say, amazing service. I should have given them kudos weeks ago. The new cover for the Mugen does NOT slide off and is very good.
Now, I need a hard case for this thing. Anyone know of a place I can get one?

How is the new cover different? Shaped differently or just fits more snugly, or both? I got mine from them, and it may be too late for me to complain since I've had it for a while now, but do you think they'd send me one if I asked? I'd even pay for it (not $60 or howevermuch, but some) if the cover is that good.
The best "hard case" I've found is by Otterbox, but I don't think that's the kind you've got in mind.
Let me know the details on that different Mugen battery cover; I could use that.

I also saw that Mugen battery and drooled, but for $100... Amazon.com has a Cameron Sino 2400mAh battery for $20... 3000mAh is probably more a custom item to begin with, but a 600mAh increase for only $80?
I've used Cameron Sino batteries before -- never had a problem.

This phone is THIN compared to my old one. It was a Touch Pro with the gigantic extended Mugen battery. It was definitely over an inch thick. Before that was a Titan with the extended battery and a full aluminum extended battery case. That one had to be like 1.25" thick at least. On the other hand, it could definitely stand in as a solid bludgeoning device if needed. At least until that crackhead stole it...seriously.
-Rob
Every phone has problems at launch.
iPhone 4 antenna problems.
Evo 4G screen grounding issues (when you weren't holding it).
Aside from GPS, the Epic 4G has had relatively few issues, at least for me. Reception has been fantastic. Maybe I got an extremely good phone. I thought I'd have issues with it's size, but I don't. It's no thicker than my HTC xv6900 (Touch). It's actually only a little wider, although much taller. I thought it'd bother me, but it doesn't. If anything, I prefer the form factor over the Captivate.
I'd say "Epic Win"
Evo's problems upon release: Grounding issues, fps cap, power button cracking, screen separation, anything else?

You forgot. Horrible battery life, problems with the usb. Some screens having a purple tint to them. Don't get me wrong, I loved my evo but I have the epic now and I'm not looking back. Stock epic with 2.1 is better than evo running cm6, at least for me.

Oh yeah, absolutely atrocious battery life. What usb issues was the Evo having? Oh and most ridiculous of all the Evo's hardware problems was its complete crap speaker that blows out on account of what, listening to music? I had to replace my first for a new one because of that and my current white Evo will have to be replaced as well because no more than three weeks later, its speaker blew out as well. And before people start flaming me saying I'm holding it wrong or what-have-you, I suggest you search the Evo board. The speakers blowing out is a somewhat prominent issue.
I'm still curious about the purpose of the thread, I have yet to find anything wrong with my epic, before or after a root. I have been all over with phones, from windows mobile(thanks NRG), Iphone(you suck steve jobs), and here to the epic. Best phone I've seen yet. Evo is a good device, but for those that think the Evo is better than epic, I guess we fear what we dont understand.LOL
It was a stab at sarcastic humor with some of the problems and frustrations people are/were having.

New user!

Hey guys, I just transferred here from the hd2 thread. Sold my hd2 with extended battery for a new black slide (coming in a week). All the phones I've had always have extended batteries and I've noticed the only one sold is the mugen 3200mah. It doesn't bother me that the battery sticks out but the design of the back case makes the phone 2-3x as thick. Any suggestions on this matter? Also I am thinking of doing usual root and cfw but I've never had a phone with a keyboard. Are the cfw landscape mode with keyboard out nice looking or is it stretched (ex. sense).
Oh no... why settle for MT3GS.... D: haha it isn't that bad of a device, I gave my brother my nexus one back for my Mytouch.. nexus one had a messed up touch screen IMO....
well I'm not sure if I'll like not having a snapdragon but we'll see. Having the bigger screen on the hd2 was awesome but after trying to type quite a bit of emails, I decided it was in my best interest to get a keyboard.

Why did you choose a MT3G slide over a G2?
Well I need a plastic back to do a wireless charging mod so the slide works out. Also I kind of like the curved looked a bit more than the box look. Also I heard the reviews for the keyboard of the slide is better. Also I got the slide new on ebay for 200 with ship.
Mugen sells an 1800mAH battery that doesn't add any bulk to the phone, it runs for 40 dollars. Personally I dont really need an extended battery right now since I disabled my dataplan, but if you type a lot of emails and such you might like the extra battery life.

Extended battery + one of a kind custom case

Check this out.
I had to buy the 3500 mah battery for my Vibrant. The stock battery would die before noon with minimal use on a stock rom. The only problem with the upgraded battery is that my awesome case I bought off ebay didn't fit anymore. So for the last six months my vibrant has been naked. I could only find one true case for the phone that would fit with the 3500 mah battery installed, and it was hideous.
Mulling over the problem I decided to just make a case for my phone. Nobody else was going to.
So I made one. Well I tried anyway. My idea was to cut one out of wood. I took two days and did the best I could. After the cutting was done and before the staining and finishing I took it to work to see if my buddy could take it home and bring it back with some better routing done on it. He had the tools. I had a dremel and a pocket knife.
He must have taken pity on me because he made this for me complete with a brass power button. I get it tomorrow.
That looks really big and uncomfortable. Lol. Why not just flash a battery saving ROM?

You will probably need some shoulder straps so you can lug that thing around on your back.
Seriously though, that is some really sweet work your friend did on the case! I like to see others put their ingenuity to good use!
WTH! You just put a fat suit on a supermodel!
Damn good machine/press work there...A lil big for my tastes, but very well put together.
It's aluminum, so it shouldn't be too heavy. I don't think it's much bigger than an iphone with an Otter box on it. I get it back today. I just hope it doesn't destroy the reception.
All the holes that need to be there are there - mic, jack, usb, camera, speaker, and the buttons are functional.

I laughed too, by far that is the worst thing I've ever seen. Easy tip for you.. look up fiberglass molds, its so easy to do, so cheap.. same concept you could build a nicelightweight speaker box.. some nice paint and clearcoat an it would look better than stock. I guess with you it is all about function at ANY cost(even I have limits)..
The simplest explanation would be you NEED a non stock rom, or more likely three is something wrong with your stock battery(likely) or hardware(depends what you get out o that brick of a battery)
New battery with a stable rom, underclocked with the most recent kernel to save battery life an you should get 12 hours with really heavy use

Edit: I wanted to modify my opinion, it is creative, may be functional.. but you can make a better finished product that will clip right on cheap and easy for a few Google searches.. my 2¢

That looks so retarded...... lmao my pack of cigarettes looks thinner.
Bro I think the case is awesome. People would buy that! Its got to be almost indestructible except for the screen opening.
I say good job. Forget these guys that say its ugly.
Vibrant+MIUI
Signal is unaffected. It IS big, but I like it. It's just a little bigger than an iPhone with an otter box. Size wise it's 1/4 inch wider and taller than stock, and 0.08 thicker now than it was with the extended battery (0.03 on top and 0.05 on bottom). I can't post pictures because my only camera at this point is my vibrant. It's hard to tell scale by the original picture. It looks bigger than it actually is.
Someone mentioned cost. My friend charged me only for materials - $14
I figured there were going to be haters/critics. There always are. The good thing is that there is only one of these - mine - and as a consequence only one person has to like it; me. And I do.
Minus the screen, which has a protector, the phone is near bullet proof.

My guess is that 4 days would be OK before charging. I use a lot of 3G and wireless for surfing the Internet. Email, calendar of course.
The battery cover is made of rather cheap plastic and I was worried the hinges would break of as they did on my previous battery which was some other manufacturer (2700mAh?). This hasn't happened, seems like the cover is sturdy enough but could be made of much better material considering the price.
I recommend this battery.
Thanks! Anyone have a recommendation for one that fits in the stock battery door?

I recommend the HTC OEM EVO 4G Design battery, It fits perfect in our devices w/o any modifying or trimming. It's a whopping 1520mah compared to the 1300mah that comes with stock devices !
