[Q] HTC surround brand new / AT&T / argentina - Surround General

Hello!
I have this great phone with me today. I was wondering just 1 thing:
- Could the performance on the OS with HTC hub not be as "smooth" in transitions as they can be?
- I'm asking this because i've an HTC HD2 ... and it works better than the surround?!?!?!
- 2nd thing i have this unlocked to put any SIM and it works fine. Can i loose that unlock if i update the OS with some other ROM? or this is not like the iphone stuff that if u update the BASEBAND gets ****ed up and sayonara unlock?
////
yes i'm an apple guy but i was a PC guy for the last 10 years too. .
so please help me out! thank you!!

AFAIK, you keep the unlock, BUT before you flash any ROM, query its author.

what you mean with AFAIK ? ... and is there any IMPROVED ROM for HTC surround yet?. thanks!

There is no custom ROM's for the Surround.

AFAIK is short for "As Far As I Know"
You should check Ansar's posts for new ROMs. You can start here.
You don't need to flash a new ROM to get OS updates. All updates come through Zune, you might need to unbrand your device in order to get the updates (this requires you to "developer unlock" your phone, check this thread for unlocking.)
Have fun!

UPDATED ROM FROM TMobile USA and HTC (Oct. 26, 2010)

I got a text message from TMobile today saying there is new software and new feature improvements for my HD2. I clicked on the website they gave me and here is what the pop up window says,:
" A software upgrade is available for HTC HD2 customers at www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade. Please be aware that after you upgrade the phone It is normal for the device to run slowly and the battery to drain at a higher rate for a short period of time. This is caused by applications that might be performing an initial sync, such as, Outlook or a personal e-mail account, or the device updating applications like weather and location. It may take up to four hours to complete all syncing.Important: Please read the steps on How do I perform a device software upgrade before moving forward. The software update is only designed to update the software version from 2.10.531.1 and 2.13.531.1 to 3.14.531.1.
The upgrade process is easy!
Download the new software to your PC. You will be instructed to enter the 15-digit IMEI number for your device to access the download.
Ensure ActiveSync 4.5 for computers using Windows XP or earlier or use Windows Mobile Device Center for computers using Vista and Windows 7 is installed on your PC. If you have not installed ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center, you can install it from your Getting Started CD or download it from the Microsoft website.
Connect your HTC HD2 MR to your computer using the USB Sync Cable that came with the phone.
Establish a connection. You will know this is complete when the ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center icon in your PC taskbar is lit green and the status is "Connected".
Ensure that your T-Mobile HTC HD2 MR has a battery charge that is greater than 50% (two bars).
Remove your MicroSD card from the device if you have one inserted. Do not reinsert the SD card until after the software installation process is complete and the phone is ready to use.
Run the software update program you downloaded to your PC and follow the on-screen commands.
Below is the list of available downloads. Please select the download of your choice.
T-Mobile HD2 MR Software Updates
T-Mobile HD2 MR Software (Version 3.14.531.1)"
I'm not sure if the chefs plan on upgrading our roms or what but it's nice to know the HD2 got some love with WP7 on the extremely near horizon.
Just found the other thread. Wow - some people got the text on the 19th and I just got mine. Crazy sucky! Please lock this thread.
No text yet
So i haven't gotten any text from tmob yet so deciced to check and download it. well if anybody is wondering if the one released by tmob is different than the one released two weeks ago are different? the answer is yes. the radio versions are different, as is a few minor things. going to give it a few days to compare the two. the one released two weeks ago was the first time i ever stuck with a stock that long, and now going to give this a try.

Download For: T-Mobile HD2 MR
Download: T-Mobile HD2 MR Software (Version 3.14.531.1 )
Date Updated: 9/23/10
Size: 209 MB
Still think its new?
Yeah, I did it but I don't know what's wrong: when I looked for the Software information, and checked the OS version, it's now like this: OS version: 5.2.21913 (21913.5.0.94). Is it Windows Mobile current version? Did ROM upgrade downgrade Windows version?
I know it might seem stupid, but I am really concerned...
Thanks in advance for help!
No, 21913 is one of the latest we've seen of COM2 line. If you had cooked one before then you had some bigger number probably, due to different branch...
What about Abroad Tmob devices ??
Guyys .., I'm Using a Tmob HD2 in Srilanka. Got it unlocked and using it. I've got one of those 17 digit IMEI's and ROM version of 2.13.
Is it okay for me to go ahead and get my device updated to this new 3.14 version ?? Confused please helpp meeeeeee ...........
Thnks Guys !!
If it is TMOUS HD2 then yes. TMOUS is TMobile USA. The one with 1GB ROM and 576MB RAM in stock.
Yeah, it's a Tmobile version of HD2 and yes it has a 1GB rom.

The file is too large to post here. Check the development Forums for links to the stock ROMs. But it is really easiest and safest to go to HTC, enter your IMEI, and get the right ROM from them.

[Q] HTC surround / help me to decide if i have to upgrade a new ROM? or not?...

Hello people!
I'm testing this HTC surround i got today.
My questions are 2:
1- does the HTC surround IMPROVES the smooth performance on apps etc when upgrading a ROM? or using a custom one?. ..
2 - Below its my information from the about of the phone, can someone tell me if i "have to" upgrade this versions with a new ROM? ... or its the same and the phone wont change at all these days ....
os version 7.0.7004.0
firmware rev version 2250.09.10307.502
hardware rev version 0003
radio software version 5.51.09.06_22.30.50.09H
radio hardware version A.26.0.D4
Bootloader version 1.3.2250.7(111288)
Chip SOC version 2.2.5.0
I'm asking this because:
i own an iphone4. it works flawlessly and i see some jaggy animations on the HTC surround....
and i own a HTC HD2! with a WP7 ROM! and I THINK IT WORKS BETTER than the original HTC SURROUND ROM that i've from factory ....
THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!!!
CHEERS!
Marcelo.
Future ROM updates may increase performance it depends on what kind of fixes they have made.
As for Custom ROM's, a well put together ROM will typically improve performance but decrease in reliability.
Looks like you haven't got the pre-nodo update, its 7008 were yours is 7004. Sync your device with Zune and it will ask you to update.
Sent from my Surround using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
thanks man! ill try that.
i just tried and the zune software says that my phone is up to date on 7004...
is there a way to make the update manually?
What carrier are u with?
Go to settings in Zune and check for updates. It should just pop up when u plug it in but since its not try that.
Sent from my Surround using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
rather than using a custom rom , you could go for the nodo update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013610
It improves performance
I would hold off on NoDo the only nice thing abot it is the faster apps and faster marketplace (oh and app searching) but the gains are minimal

Cheesy update method
You can trick your phone into updating, all the way to NoDo if you'd like.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015131
Essentially:
1. Start Zune
2. Turn off Data connection and Wifi on the Phone
3. Connect the Phone with the PC (USB)
4. Start the update search in Zune
5. About 3 seconds later, disconnect your PC from the internet (Turn WLAN off).
6. Zune finds NoDo-Update. Press OK.
7. Connect to the internet again and install the update.
Worked great for me.

[ROM]RUU_Schubert_O2_UK_3.04.206.01_Radio_5.66.09.21a_2 2.48.50.21_Signed

Here new RUU for o2 UK
http://www.filefactory.com/file/cbd...9.21a_22.48.50.21_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE.exe
Enjoy!
could any1 post an alternative link to this mine keeps saying download interupted when i try this thanks
Any chance of some more information of what the rom contains or what improvements it may make.
First two things noticed, the bootloader and radio version are later than I thought was available as the NoDo Update is cooked into it so it's NoDo'd out of the box so to speak.

Not tired it yet, but it should not install if its not a valid O2 rom
Installed it - seems ok no major speed differences of battery life - but seems to be the latest around - if anything the signal strength is possibly better. Just really waiting for Mango and hoping that the move to 7.5 will be possibly on original 7 devices - anyone know this?
I install this with rum? help me
I dont think drinking is going to help you install this. lol
Whats the battery like with this radio? any improvments over the stock version? (besides nodo)

It says you will get it on this page: HERE
The radio has helped with my signal. Hope a new one comes out soon.
Um....Really!
Would you beleive that i just flashed this to a TMOUS HD7?!
Not only did it flash but it did indeed update radio and it works!
Makes me wonder, have i just unlocked the 900 band to use this in Australia??
Either way my pd29110 is now a T9292 haha
Next step would be to load a custom rom with no branding and i would have just reverted a TMO to a stock HTC. me is happy

[Q] Downgrading to HTC original ROM

Hi!
I have a HTC Surround, with a DFT Custom ROM.
SO version: 7713.WM7_Main(DFT).20110803-0252
Firmware: 2250.21.15204.DFT
Hardware: 0003
Radio Softaware: 5.51.09.06_22.30.50.09U
Radio Hardware: A.26.0.D4
Boot loader: 1.52.2250.4(120323) (HSPL)
Chip: 2.2.5.0
And I would really like to get back to the official HTC ROM, so I've downloaded this one:
RUU_Mondrian_Cingular_US_1.03.502.07_5.51.09.06_22 .30.50_RELEASE.exe
My question is, can I just flash it normally?
HSPL won't be a problem?
What I need to do to get back to the original ROM without bricking my phone?
Thanks!

Thanks!
It worked!
Original AT&T ROM now
hi.. please can u give me some answers?
i bought an HTC Surround three days ago, I'm from Brazil, and I bought it on a Website... it was new.. in the original box and all... it probably came from the USA, since there's no original version of htc surround here in my country...
i'm going through a problem though. i first saw when i turned on my phone, that it was with a 'Dark Team Forces' logo.. and indeed i did my 'homework' and saw it is a custom rom... the problem is that with this rom, the Volume only works at 100!
i dont know why, the alarms dont work too, and this is causin me problems... i really liked the phone, its totally amazing, but this thing that the volume only works at 100 is terrible... if i decrease it to 99,98,97, doesn't mather, the sound just doesn't come out.
There is my doubt. I'm wanting to Downgrade it to the Original WP7 rom... the original system, but I'm afraid that If i'd do it, i wouldn't be able to use my SIMCARD normally as I'm doing now, with the brazilian's phone providers...
I'm very used to Android, but about WP7 I'm an advanced beginner haha...
How could I do the flashing anyway? What's the programs, the roms, what do I do? I'd appreciate your help, really.
Thank you everybody from XDA.

Friend thank you for the fast answer.
I'm really in trouble and needing help. hehehe.
As I am very 'newbie' at this topic, could you please be more specific in the stuff u said?
I mean, I didn't even know that there were such websites like u said that can 'unblock' the SIM... could u give me any example?
And about the ROM you said, do you know where I can find it, any clue or link to guide me there?
And about flashing, this isn't a big problem, i believe i can find tutorials of flashing with WP7 here in XDA...
Sorry if I'm asking too much, but I really need it!!
Thanks a lot my friend!
linkinbrr , I had the EXACLTY same problem!
I'm brazilian too!
I bought it from Mercado Livre (like Ebay).
I just installed the orignal ROM and it works fine now!
I could update all the way to mango afterwards.
But now i'm using another custom ROM, it's not from DFT, it works really great.(It's unlocked)
Here it goes!

[Q] Buying advice for Omnia 7

I'm looking to buy Omnia 7, and as i haven't caught up with all the stuff needed for an interop unlock, what should i look for before buying, ie: OS version or bootloader version so that i can interop unlock it?
Is it possible that the phone cannot be unlocked if someone updated regularly through Zune to latest OS version?
Thanks guys!

You don't need to do any flashing to dev unlock your device. I have one running 8107 with tethering and all you need to do is go to http://windowsphonehacker.com/windowbreak on your phone's browser and click "windowbreak me" and follow the steps. When you're done (takes about 5 minutes tops) you'll have dev unlock and tethering, if the device you buy doesn't already have it.

Please dont lie to him. Many people (and also Me) are having the same problem - Non retail device when using Wp7 Downloader or USB error (206) when using DFT and nobody knows how to help us. Type non retail device in google, You gonna find many topics, many problems and tears ;-)
I dont know how to check it before buying, You can ask about version of WP and Zune updating, mine shows that i have the newest version. (ha! ha!)
So i should just check if the phone is updated to 8107 before buying?
