[Q] Noob Here need Cyanogen Help - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, so I couldn't find this in the search!
I finally got rooted and installed cyanogen rc3 via rom manager. Now I want to get Arabic support, does anyone know how to do this? I am leaving for the middle east on Sunday so please help ASAP!
And also is it worth it to overclock the mytouch4g for a noob like me?

Overclocking is extremely easy just be careful on how much. Flash a kernel and dl setcpu from the market. But I can't help ya on Arabic support you could try the cyanogen forums

Actually overclocking can be done from within the performance settings in cyanogen. No kernel needed.
[sent via Cyanogen powered Android]

I found this:
vrami.net/?p=635
Which tells me I need to flash the Arabic and it gives a zipfile, this is for cyanogen. How do I flash the arabic zip file? Do I put the zipfile onto my SD card, then reboot the phone while holding the volume down button and select flash from sdcard, etc etc?
Thanks

To flash the .zip you need to boot into recovery > install .zip from sdcard > let me choose > pick the .zip and flash it.
make sure to do a Nandroid back up first.

you are correct on that end. SetCPU does allow for a wider arrange of options. However personally i found that when i cut the CPU down when the screen was of killed my battery. I get much better life not using it.

Sorry for my bad English i hope you understand what i mean
Can anybody help me and give me a Kernel that Works ?

This should be in Q&A, not the development board, for future reference.
Now, is the wildpuzzle rom a sense Rom or asop?
EDIT: oops, didn't realize there wasn't a q&a board. My bad.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo-on-Hero action here!
It's a Sense Rom
They have an oc kernel in the Rom dev thread. You wiped dalvik before you flashed it, right? Also, how long are you waiting when you reboot?

But if you installed the Wildpuzzlerom, it's already overclocked! You need to install SetCPU and Superuser to give permissions and the second time you start the SetCPU app (the first time you have to go back to close SetCPU and reopen it), you'll be able to set higher frequency!
Reflash the Wildpuzzlerom and install SetCPU.
If it's not overclocked, I'll send you the link to XDA thread because I can't post links here...

This one is working for me right now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=429951&d=1288436771
As ALL Overclocked kernels I've tried, it can freeze/hang the phone. But at least, this one reboots the phone (not pulling the battery) and in 20 second the phone is booted again (like hot reboot), so not a big deal.
I think the problem MAY be SetCPU app.

Hi I know that i shouldn't post topic like this.
I was an iphone user until recently when i bought galaxy s. Galaxy was delivered with android 2.2 now i want to root it but i can't because it won't load update.zip from recovery menu because it's 3e. I've searched the forum but nothing seems to help.
I will be very thankful if someone helps me

Search the forum for getting the 3button combo working, there are few links.
Once you get the download mode, recovery mode working you can root using z4root (available in the market).

You'd need to change to a kernel that supports overclocking. Offhand i can think of raspdeep / yaok

Lag is most likely when writing/reading on the flash memory. Either because of the File System (wich shouldn't be the case if you used OCLF or the likes) and because SGS is using flash memory (SD Card) instead of a Nand on other devices. This is so that you have more space on the device.
So, O/Cing the thing won't change the "lag". Altough, I'm using JK4 and the lag is pretty much lesser than any other (when installing apps or browsing on folders, for example). And I don't use any lagfix.
So i should switch from jp6 to jk4?

To update clockwork to install Virtuous Sense? (and why are their DL links down?)

I have Clockwork recovery 2.5 on my DZ, and I want to install Virtuous sense (or any other virtuous rom) Is there a reason I should upgrade?
And while we're at it, I'm trying for a few days to download from Virtuous and it seems like all their download links are broken.. anyone had this problem too? are Virtuous aware of it (didn't find any official mention of such issue..)
I'm sure they know that. Their forum is down for a couple of days (or weeks)...
Why not upgradind the clockwork? It take 30sec and just can improve things.
Any chance you can point me in the general direction of a guide to do it? I googled it and found nothing useful...

Hey, sorry I'd missunderstood..
ROM MANAGER does it.
You take it from the market.
Open it
He will ask you if you want to give him autorisation (need root of course!!).
Be sure it'OK.
And flash the recovery (first option).
Sometiomes it doesn't work on the first time.
Y ou can reboot and do it again.
Then clic reboot on recovery and verify version.

Yeah, I'm running into the same problem.
What Rom are you running, and does it only happen under certain conditions?
I'm running
LiquidSmooth Rom (4.2.2 - It seems super stable, only 2 total problems with it)
CodeFireX .62 or .64, I don't remember
NOS Tweak Package v0.4.5_r1 (was having same problems before this; it actually improved my battery life somehow )
HTC MyTouch 4g/Glacier (Obviously, since I'm posting here, but I figured I'd say so just in case)
Anyways, the problem I'm running into is that I can't get the backlight to stay off after locking the phone.
I lock it, then after ~7seconds the backlight comes back on.
Also, this has happened on each 4.2.x rom I've tried
I read somewhere that messing with the settings/app killers can help, but no change from that. I've also tried setting my backlight to all the way off, as well as full, and the brightness doesn't change while the screen is off.
I can try to make a LogCat of it later, though.

Ehh, I am too really - everyone's gotta start somewhere though!
Anyways, what it means is that you can't just take the nos_whatever.zip file and flash it from the recovery, you have to actually open the app called Terminal Emulator (can be found on the market, needs root) and install it from there.
The instructions on how are all in the readme inside the .zip file, just follow those and you'll be fine.

I was having the same 2 issues beforehand (Backlight coming on while the phone is locked, and cell signal dropping after I miss a call until I turn airplane mode on->off)
Also, I noticed that at least in my case my phone seems much less likely to turn the backlight back on if I'm not doing anything in the background such as listening to music. I'm pretty sure that's only been working today though, not sure why...

Also, what're the advantages of 4ext recovery over clockwork?

lol actually I found out the problem. After I extracted it, ES File Explorer made a folder on my sdcard called "sdcard" with the install file in it. And I was stupid and ignored the fact that it should be on the root of the sdcard. Whoops lol.
