I'd be really happy if it does come on at&t bands because all of Canadia works on the same bands
that doesnt mean anything.. the stock sgs ii has att bands and just becuase it is going through fcc approval doesnt mean it is att requesting the approval.. could just be samsung getting it approved as it does all its phones.

Well I for one happy about this.
I held out for waiting for the atrix, but in the end it just wasn't enough for me. I have a captivate and have enjoyed having it rooted and running froyo way before AT&T and sammy got off their ass.
i fully expect the s2 to have all the same bands that the galaxy s1 had, and the omnia hd also had, the same quadband coverage, dont expect anything to change here. because they are the most widely used bands, perfect for an international model.

This was known for a while now, that the Galaxy S 2 wwould work on ATT 3G bands. What is not known is whether ATT will pick up the phone or not.

Agreed! I won't ever buy a AT&T retarded phone again, if there is an international one available I will pay extra for it. Like the Captivate vs i9000.

I completely understand if you guys didn't dig into FCC documents to read what they said, I don't blame you, but just to clarify, the device passed is an 850/1900 ONLY phone, meaning it can only be for AT&T or Canadian carriers.
Other versions will likely be released, but the version that passed FCC is not going to work on other US carriers.

We'll have to see if they strip out features again. FFC is a must, and I don't think they'll strip that out. I think they took that out last time because the network wasn't ready for video calling. They wanted HSPA+ prior to letting people use video calling. Other phones AT&T sells have an FFC now, so I don't think the SGS2 will be any different.
Other than that, what, FM radio and no HSUPA? AT&T SAYS they are going to start rolling out HSUPA, we'll see, if not I'm sure a radio swap with an international version will work again. And FM radio would be a nice addition, but I certainly won't make a decision on a phone over it. I can always use TuneIn and iheartradio if I really want to listen to my ****ty local stations. Oh, and a flash on the camera. That one actually may sway my decision to buy it if they don't include a flash. That was one of the stupidest things I've seen, but I found that I don't care about flash for pictures as much as I do for a flashlight. Most cell phone pictures taken with flash look like crap anyway.
I would go for an international version if they were at least somewhat reasonable in price, but I'm not paying $700-800+ USD for an international version.
Anyway, I hope they will hurry up. I have an upgrade that I'm itching to use!

Why not? Use your upgrade + $199 to buy an Iphone5, sell it for ~$600, pay <$300 out-of-pocket for the international version. The latest details are $700 and a May date from the other thread.

Because I don't want to spend that much on a phone right now. I just bought an iPad 2 as my latest toy, so I have to limit myself. Depending on the cost on AT&T, I'm up for upgrade price plus $50 off. If it hits a $200 price point again I can probably get it for $150. We don't even know what will be different between the two yet.

You know, not to long ago I was in your shoes but it was the other way around. It was T-mobile for a while that had all the cool Android phones first that I really wanted like the Nexus phones. We were stuck with the sorry excuse Backflip (ATT's first Android phone). Ever since Samsung moved to it's quadband SoC it's been a nice change to get the latest tech even if it isn't "official" and we have to import it.
But, I'm afraid this honeymoon of ATT users being able to import phones will end with the ATT LTE rollout. Unless Samsung updates its european radios to support US ATT LTE frequencies we won't be able to use european phones on ATT LTE.
Their initial focus for the Note is obviously not the US, T-Mobile is not the biggest carrier in the US, and T-Mobile uses the AWS frequency range, which almost no one in the world uses. (Does anyone else use 1700/2100?) As much as I would love it if it were Pentaband, I'm not at all surprised that it isn't.
As to the Nexus, it is the ICS flagship, and so Google/Samsung will want it released in as many places as possible, so including AWS makes more sense. The Note, in comparison, might end up being a niche product, so there is probably less pressure to rush it to minor segments.

The new Snapdragon S4 chip does provide full broadband frequences:

As the owner of the International model, I found this encouraging. I don't know if anyone saw this article, but it says that T-Mobile is going to revamp their network to make it compatible with iPhones and other smartphones.

I know there had been some hinting about this effort, but I heard last month that they had abandoned plans to reconfigure their network. This article seems to say full speed ahead.

i like buying phones off contract and most (if not all) off contract international phones only support ATT bands.
being able to purchase pretty much ANY GSM phone and have it work on tmobile would be a godsend and that will pretty much have people jumping ship from att to tmobile.
Yes, I realize I may get harassed for this, however, I get much better US LTE cvoverage around me than I do the AT&T 3G, therefore, if you pick up a LTE 7.7 from Verizon and are interested in swapping for my 100% perfect condition International 3G version, let me know.

I'm sorry that you don't have such decent AT&T coverage where you are, but I humbly propose that you are bat$hit crazy for wanting a locked down carrier subsidized device from Verizon... No offense...
I mean, with the VZW 7.7, you're saying goodbye to phone functionality, bigger community support (different internal hardware, different device, separate support). Also you're also saying goodbye to a device free of carrier bloat, lock-downs, and restrictions, just to name a few.
If LTE is all you want, get a VZW LTE hotspot and keep your P6800. Best of both worlds!
Whoever traded with you would give you a locked device, tied to a two year contract.
Is there an easy way to unlock a device under current contract? Seems like you could only use it if you assumed the contract too.
Alternative suggestion: sell your device on here, for maybe $50 less than you paid, and get your own Verizon contract.
Hate to see anyone go to the Dark Side though....

If there will be, you won't get it from Verizon. Theoretically, if AT&T offers one that will have a user-accessible SIM card so you could possibly have the device unlocked and use it with other compatible carriers. But, there's no indication that AT&T will be offering the 7.7 at this point.

Internal hardware is the same with the obvious exception of the radios. There's already separate support for the WiFi and 3G models. There will be greater support for the LTE model because of its increased availability vs the international 3G. Both will be eclipsed by WiFi support when its more commercially avaliable, however, as evident in the tab's bigger brothers.
You're trading the ****ty "phone functionality"(find me a review praising this ability, the ones I've read trash the speaker/microphone) for the slightly more useful IR Blaster. Its a tablet and you(general populace) look stupid holding a 7.7" device to your face. I understand the rational of wanting to carry one device to suit all your needs, but... seriously. There only bloatware on the tablet is what Samsung put there as far as I know(I.e. Samsung apps, Peel, etc). Not to mention with the upcoming ICS upgrade, any worries about bloatware go out the window. I'm hard pressed to think of what "lock downs" and "restrictions" you're so worried about.
EDIT: all that being said, I agree with the MiFi solution. Its the path of least resistance.

I dont think both of the internals are the same. The International version has an Exynos chip. I believe the LTE Verizon version does not have the Exynos chip. Exynos doesnt play nice with LTE so it must be a different chip.
I have been reading through all the blog posts regarding the Verizon release tomorrow, however, I have yet to see what processor is included within the device.
I have also heard that Exynos processors have issues with LTE radios, so I am guessing we will get the Snapdragon in this one.
Now, if tomorrow were today, Verizon would only be charging $399 for the device since they are knocking off $100 on every 4G LTE device for Leap Day.
The Samsung product website claims that it is Exynos. AFAIK it is the only device on which an Exynos SoC is paired with an LTE baseband (though that site doesn't say what the baseband is).
For whst its worth, according to folks(Anandtech, Engadget, etc) who handled the LTE model at CES, it is Exynos 1.4ghz processor.

As with a lot of other people on this site, I'm wondering which carrier will be best to pre-order from? I use Verizon but HATE the fact that most of the times it's one of the last carriers to be able to root the phone. I would also hate for this to turn into another Verizon Samsung Note 4 issue. Too bad the rumors where Samsung was going to start making phones that were both CDMA & GSM/UTMS were not true (as far as I am aware of).
This way since I'm now paying outright for my phones (roughly $800 bucks for 7 Edge), I could use it if I moved between carriers. After reading some other posts, now I'm wondering If I'm paying full price (paid in full), Will it be unlocked? I can't be the only one that feels RIPPED OFF when I pay $800 for a device and can't have root = have my own admin access. Can you imagine buying a laptop and not being able to install/change your own OS? not having admin rights/root?
I feel it's a MAJOR excuse for a carrier to even say - if we give you root & you change the ROM, then it makes it more difficult to help you. Guess what?!? I have not ever asked for help and nor would I... Besides, why couldn't they ask for the ROM version your using... if it matches theirs, they assist... if it doesn't, they tell you before they can assist you, you must put their ROM back on? Yes - there will always be that one person... but hey - if they were able to gain root and swap the ROM, they should be able to swap it back or pay to have it swapped back. OR at least pay for insurance and "accidentally drop it" and have it replaced.
It really bites that I (along with so many other people) want to pre-order the phone for several reasons (the free VR and games along with getting the phone first) but don't want to be SCREWED by one specific carrier and not be able to unlock the phone, root and replace the ROM.
So after all that - which carrier (historically) is the best to purchase from?
CDMA - Verizon (not), Sprint?, U.S. Cellular?
GSM - AT&T?, T-Mobile?
Additional INFO - I'm also about to call Verizon to confirm - But I read 2-3 months ago that Verizon will now allow another carrier's phone on their network (if it is CDMA). What I'm going to do is pre-order from eBay.
The phones have a hell of a mark-up (+$200/$300), but there are unlocked Qualcomms that are usually rooted much more quickly with better support for AOSP.
I hate paying that much, but I'm going to have this phone for years, and the hassle from carrier-branded phones just isn't worth it.
Edit: You should still be able to add insurance and such through your carrier too, depending on their policies.
Didn't have an issue insuring previous phones with AT&T even though they were bought off-plan through other retailers.
It is slightly cheaper when buying it from Best Buy, $779 vs $792. I saw the T-mobile version supports band 13 LTE, but I didn't see anything about CDMA support.
I also did follow up with Verizon about placing a phone on their network that was not purchased from Verizon. They said it is currently limited to 2 phones - I don't have the names because I didn't care much......they couldn't tell me the S7 would be added to the list. So does that mean people on Verizon are STUCK purchasing from Verizon?
For my s6 edge I much preferred the unlocked UK version over the US AT&T version. (Which is why I asked in another thread when we can expect to see unlocked international versions).
AT&T not only added crazy bloat but removed really cool features from the phone. Just took em right out. They also removed Samsung deals/bundles from the phone (there was a MS suite and a free TB of storage or something removed). And in exchange for screwing with the phone they had crazy delays on updates (because they had to re-remove and re-screw the phone).
Coming from iPhone I just can't deal with carrier customizations. Unlocked for life. (crazy that Apple is unlocked now and Android isn't -- bizarro world).

Nexus devices are the exception (6, 5X and 6P). The problem with VZW and Sprint is that they use proprietary CDMA technology for voice communication. You can bring just about any device to their networks and have data but you won't be able to make voice calls in most cases.

Tmobile period, not going to lock the boot loader you'll be able to root (provided the community finds a way, but it's a snap dragon and unlocked bootloader so they will most likely before it even releases. ) second if you don't want tmo service you can still root it and use am at&t sim so there's that.
