Wanting to help dev tbolt/Selling Droid x - Droid X General

I'm looking to sell my droid x. Somewhere around 250 for everything. The X rooted or unrooted, stock or not. all powercords the normal battery and an unused screen protector. I do have the original box and manuals. throwing in the 16GB and possibly a sony bluetooth headset. This being said the reason i would like to sell my droid x is so that i can help dev the new Thunderbolt since I live in the 4g area but being unemployed i need help with donations to purchase one so the more donations I receive the cheaper i can let the X go. I'm looking to port themes and possibly ROMs when it's possible. I am a very avid enthusiast and try to stay on the cutting edge of development. ill post some pix in a little bit. If you would like to donate towards the thunderbolt let me know and ill try to figure out how to link u to a donation page or if you are interested in buying my droid x shoot me a message with an offer thanks for taking the time to look.

Selling my G1

Anyone interested? Would list it on craigs list, but I figure someone round' these parts could use a new one, or a test subject Loved it to death, but moved on to my HD2
Great shape, minor cosmetic scratches, everything works great. If you want a video of it in action or something else, leme know, my HD2 takes great pics/videos
Comes with a 4gb class 4 SD card, pre formatted with 512ext4 and 64mb swap ( can change it if ya' want ) and with CSDI rom, idr which one, but I can change to whatever you want.
Here are some pics: (well, a link to an album in imageshack, the img tag was messing up ) Oh, and idk about the IMEI stuff so I blacked it out just in case
By the way, this would seem like the best forum for this, if not, please feel free to scold me, flame me, whatever it is to your hearts desire

you could've just bought Nexus One instead of HD2 you know...
or wait for a Desire to come up Android is BETTER than WinMo
used Touch Elfin and Diamond but too laggy, buggy so switched to G1
anyway its your choice
@exo
how much are you letting it go for?
I made the right choice, the nexus one, I couldn't get for under $500 because of the family plan at t-mobile, and once I used/hacked/modded the HD2, I couldn't use anything smaller
And I was hoping for at least $150, because of th root/hack/etc, I've seen them go for $250 on ebay, so I'm trying to be reasonable since it's used.
Try the marketplace..
$50... take it or leave it
$50? I could sell it too some... Unsavory people I know for $100, that's why I'd rather let it get in the hands of someone round' here where I know they know at least SOMETHING about the phone
$80 then... Im as unsavory as anyone you'll meet
I am really interested in getting this just as a backup...
And ~$150 doesn't sound too unreasonable...
Willing to trade for a 64gig itouch 3g?
Otherwise I'll try to sell it and get back to you
Hmm... If your serious, I might be willing to trade for that PM me if you are.
girlfriend just yelled at me for offering. sorry man . if i can come up with some cash and youre still holdin, ill send you a tell.
Alright, The way it's lookin, you might have a chance still, haha.

Is there any reason to use the DX over the DINC?

I have both. I love my Incredible, I like this phone except that I want new ROMs for it (Vanilla!) and to be able to upgrade the kernel, etc
Is this ever going to be possible on this phone? I've heard the rumors that it's not ever really going to take off in development.
Hardware wise, this phone is perfect, IMO. But not being able to dink with it like I do my DINC is a MAJOR drawback. I hate blur (sense is by far the best OEM UI - the samsung one is the worst by a longshot), but can live with some aspects of it. Let me use an ASOP rom, for the love of god!
I'm used to SkyRaider, Virtuous, Cyanogen, etc as options but this one has "Froyo and Deodexed" as the only real option. Perhaps when the official 2.2 is out? I just don't want to waste my time with it if I'm going to just never be able to customize it the way I want.
If you have a inc wait for the next gen large moto phone to come out. I love this phone but unless u have a eris or a d1 I wouldnt say its worth almost 600 bucks to get, especially when u allready have a inc in hand.

I'm sorta in a similar boat. I got an incredible a few weeks back and although I like the device, I have my issues. I initiated an exchange yesterday and just waiting on the x to arrive.
You seem to be attached to custom roms which the incredible is a safer bet with. The X doesn't have much yet and you'd be gambling on them arriving. And if you're not getting an upgrade cost then I doubt it makes sense. The X isn't a huge upgrade imo.

Cost isn't a factor, I just really want something I can force to do my bidding. Im not switching phones, I can obtain any phone I like (literally the only perk of my job), but I don't want to switch all my crap over to this phone if there will be non-existent dev support for it
With the droid x rooted, and ota froyo just around the corner, you can lighten it enough to do just what you want. The platform is useable enough without having to dink with it too much. A vanilla rom is bound to show up, with as quick as the community is moving these days. A locked bootloader is rather inconsequential anymore.

Verizon phone?

I'm an EVO guy so I thought I'd ask here as well. My brother is on Verizon and looking to get either a fascinate or the X. He asked me which I thought. So I popped into their development forums to have a peek.
There doesnt seem to be much at all for either verizon phone in the way of ROM's. Am I correct in assumng that the EVO community is just so much more badass? He likes the things I show him with my phone and wants to be able to do something similar.
Is there another phone, forum, or something I'm missing that could help me get some better info as to what to recommend to him? Or if anyone here has a little Verizon experience they can share with me. Thanks for any info at all!

HTC phones have always gotten way more support. For example, the Incredible on Verizon probably gets as much support as the EVO.
As for the two you mentioned, the Droid X, as far as I know, still hasn't gotten cracked. You can root it but can't flash custom ROMs. The Fascinate I don't know much about. Cyanogen Mod is being ported to some Galaxy S phones but I'm not sure if that includes the Verizon one. Either way, Samsung dev support is always slower.
Edit: If he can wait, there's a Verizon branded G2/HTC Desire Z coming out soon (?). There's also rumors of a Motorola "super phone" that will ship with a dual core Tegra 2 by hopefully holiday season (or if not, Q1 2011).
Nice that you mention the Incredible, he currently has that so we're gonna root that and play with it for awhile see if he can hold off getting another phone till the next big thing comes out.
Thanks.
If he's going to get a phone right now, then one of the Droids, preferrably the Incredible. Droid X is 2nd, and Fascinate is last. Why? It's a Bingphone. Like the Kin, which died after just a few weeks. That's right, al of the Google apps have been removed and replaced by Bing apps, and the Google stuff on the Market are practically hidden.
If he has the incredible why does he want another phone? Like stated above, incredible gets almost the same amount of support the evo does.

if he already has the Droid incredible he has no business getting a new phone. awesome dev community and still in the top tier of hardware. its pretty much a mini evo without 4g and hdmi.
in the coming months you will start to see phones that may actually be substantially better than the DINC, but nothing atm. i would hold on the the DINC for at least a year.
Stick with the incredible until the next HTC phone or something better is released.

I think just because the fact that he's had the incredible so long, he assumed it was time to get a new one. He doesnt keep a phone too long, and me not being on Verizon I didnt know there was so much support for the incredible. I'm going to recommend he just hold onto that for now.

Is the switch from a D2 worth it?

Hello, I have a droid 2 at the moment and I'm heavily toying with the idea of picking up a DX and selling my D2...would it be worth it or am i going to sort of downgrade?
I see that the DX has more roms and seems like more development too.
I got myself a DX and picked a D2 up for my sister at the same time, about 4 days ago. I have to tell you, I like my Rooted DX with ApeX 1.3.1 a LOT better than her D2. But it's whatever you will be happy with.
Come on brotha! The DX a "downgrade" from the D2?! How do you figure that?! Not to be all up in your kool aid - but you know Verizon isn't even selling new D2's anymore right? only refurbs. So I wouldn't call it downgrading to buy one of the most popular phones on the market.
Having ranted all that - honestly - same phone - a little different package. I know people are going to bust me on that - but come on - what's the difference? HDMI out? Wooo! I have used that uhh - none times in 4 months. 8mp camera? The X takes horrible pictures (well - not horrible. but not any better than the D2).
Going from D2 to the X is a complete waste when there are some Tegra 2 dual core processors right around the corner. If you are going to blow $300+, I say wait just a couple more months.
If you want to do something cool pick up an OG D1 that for $100 to tide you over. They are overclocking those to 1ghz and you will get REAL custom roms. cyanogen, bugless beast, ultimate droid etc.
I heard D1 is already getting a Gingerbread port. DX aint getting no kinda love like that. I'm trying to pick me up a D1 or an Incredible if you know anyone.
Just my opinion though.

Some good advice. Might aswell wait. How about incredible vs D2 since incredible is HTC not moto blocked with crap.
I just wonder when verizon will finally start getting some real phones.

The incredible is a nice phone. But the battery life is pretty bad. Get an extended and you'll probably be ok.
I am not saying that the Incredible is a better phone -but I would like to have it as a second phone so I could run CM and BB. I hear the Dinc has a semi functional ginger bread port also. Battery life does suck though.
Don't get me wrong -I really like the X. I don't think I could use a 3.7 screen anymore -but I sure wish we were completely unlocked.

Someone wrongly said that the D2 was discontinued. It may be true for the original, but the D2 Global .... with 1.2Ghz .... that's still very much on sale.
Its an even trade, speed & bad camera vs. beauty & good camera.

I think its all about what you are looking for, but in no way a downgrade. I think most people would say the D2 is a downgrade to the DX smaller screen and such. I guess you have to ask yourself the question is a hard keyboard a requirement. If it is not and you can handle the size the Droid X is probably going to meet or exceed all your expectations. I think it is one of the best Android phones out.
-McMex
I'm just used to owning hard keyboard devices but I've used the nexus one (that was my first full touch phone) and I didn't complain about it actually lol.
I've read some news recently about verizon possibly getting a new HTC device, but then again, Droid X is in my opinion considered the classier more stylish phone, so its re-sale value might hold out more when the new one's come out, that's also a factor for me.
I, like a few others, would advise you to wait. I'm loving my DX running Fission, but as soon as some of these dual core phones start popping up I'll be upgrading immediately.
I am worried about having to go down to a smaller screen. At first I thought it was necessarily big, but now when I use my old D1 it makes me realize how nice having such a large screen is. I did have to take my Body Glove off though. DX w/ Body Glove was just a little too bulky for me in my pocket. Taking away the cover made me love the phone that much more.
If we could get Bugless Beast on this phone I would be in heaven, and quite frankly would have no true reason to upgrade my phone. I'm just glad I ditched the Blackberry a few years back. Just to think, I almost got a Storm 2 over a D1. What an awful mistake that would have been.

(Q) droid x or ....?

I'm with Verizon. Currently have the iPhone. Its garbage and wanting the droid x. I was just wondering what is the best phone with Verizon right now?
I'm in my 14 day trial so I'm debating on what phone I want.
I would suggest droidX if you are ok with touch keyboard, or droid 2, if you prefer physical keyboard. If you wait a couple of months, the droid X2 is due in the second quarter. I personally use droid x and it keeps me quiet merry. Large screen, great camera, fast enough and on and on...

The X is a great phone! It offers a bunch of great customization and a great team of developers that work on it. If you want to be able to TRULY run a custom ROM (custom kernel such as Cyanogen Mod) then the X may not be the phone for you at this time. Devs are still working on unlocking/bypassing the bootloader.
HTC generally makes some good unlocked phones as well. Not to dissuade you from the X, as I personally have one and love it.
1+ on both reviews. Coming from the Eris and 2 weeks now, very pleased. Haven't felt the need to root. (Waiting for cyanogen)
Just discovered its car dock/multimedia dock as another nice feature.
Good luck.

Having had all the iPhones, which I dumped after trying out Android last year... and having/tried/using MANY others I have not been happier with my X... It has the screen I want, built like a tank even with all that glass, speed is great, battery life is VERY impressive (Added the OEM EB), and it is just a solid device inside and out.
Yes, the "modding" is limited and I really thought I was going to miss that because I enjoy testing, creating, etc.... but it really hasn't bother me, my only need for it was to add functionality that I couldn't get, but thanks to Bootstrap and multiple tweaks and mods, I am perfectly happy.
My opinion... You won't regret the switch.
Yup its an excellent phone. With 4g coming around, there will be many more choices with better features. Theyll also come with a bigger price tag and more expensive plans. For now the x is plenty for me.
After having had both Droid X and 2... go with the X. You wont be disappointed!

The Droid X I don't think will disappoint. I like mine a lot. If you are shopping for phones you might want the Fascinate as well.
maybe wait a little while and go with the thunderbolt? im done with motorola because i want to make sure that the bootloader wont be locked beyond what is necessary anymore.
