There exists a few Low-Cost-Phones (f.e. T200i) which does not have a PC-Interface.

no its not a market app as such!
its a pc application to manage either your SE/SMART ANDROID phone with ... you run the pc app and connect via wifi/bluetooth/usb etc to your smartphone and can sync backup transfer files download files etc to your computer
if via android it can be done by the APK supplied thats in the installation folder of the pc application copy it to your Android and install it with a file manager like any other application ... once installed (for wifi) turn your wifi on and launch the app on your phone then launch the app on your pc and click connect
instructions are in the program and on the website/blog mentioned above

the easiest way is on you pc/laptop go to: http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ and download the version 1.8.1 and on your android go to the market and search for myphone explorer and install it.
if your using wifi just run the app on your phone first and you pc/laptop should find the client in your network

No plans to support Linux?

New App!!! Sync web iCalendar to pocket Outlook

After I couldn't find an app to sync iCalendars with pocket outlook, I decided to make my own. Note: it IS buggy and not complete (eg ALPHA). Use at your own risk but it works fine on my PPC-6700 using a google calendar.
It supports syncing normal events as well as all day and weekly recurring events (eg every week on m,w,f) I designed it so that it can run on a timer in the background and update whenever or you can trigger it yourself. I'm not a pro developer so its not the best in the world but it works for me!
Also, it doesn't delete anything from your phone, only adds new items or updates existing ones (keys off of the title of the appointment).
I plan on posting it up on a sourceforge site soon and making the code public.
Attached is a screenshot of the interface. Yes, very simple.
Instructions: To install, download the attached cab, copy the cab to your device and browse to it and tap it to install.
Then you can configure it with the url (I recomend copy and paste from a text message or something if the url is long) select if you want it to auto update or not and if so, how often. Make sure you save the settings so they are stored for the next running.
Very good idea !
I was just thinking how I could sync Google calendar with Pocket Outlook
A question before I try : which url do you enter ?
When I browse Google calendar on my PC I get : http://www.google.com/calendar/render
Is that it ?
I probably should've mentioned that. For google calendar, go to settings, calendars, then click the calendar you want to import, and under private address click ical. Then copy and paste the url it gives to a text message and send it to the device so you can copy and paste it into the app (thats what I did).
Ok thanks.
I'll test your app tomorrow morning
This is a great app. Do you think you can make an update on google side, ie pocket pc overwrite the google calendar. It doesn't need to be a full sync at the beginning, but this would be a great addition
At least being able to sync appoints from the device to the google calendar would be great, no need to necessarily wipe them. That is, a bi-directional sync, with no delete. If an appointment needs to be deleted, it would just need to be deleted from both locations.
Generally sync apps have the following types of options:
Local -> Remote (No delete)
Local -> Remote (Delete remote entries that are not present locally)
Remote -> Local (No delete)
Remote -> Local (Delete local entries that are not present remotely)
Remote -> Local / Local -> Remote (Do not delete any entries)
- Scott
Any news on this?
Posting code to sourceforge
Hi,
Could you please post your code to sourceforge. This way we could help you develop this piece of software. Would be appreciated.
Regards,
Gerard
Any word on this? I'm anxious to see/start working on it.
I was just looking for something like this! I will try it when I get home from work. Hope to see continued development.
This app is great and exactly what I was looking for. I have been using it for a couple weeks now.
One thing, I noticed that it only pulls in the first 50+ characters of the appointment's description. Is there a way we can get the whole description?
Is there any update on the status of this project? Is going to be put on Sourceforge? I would gladly contribute to working on it.
Thanks
Josh

I had the same problem. I got the .net compact framework from below:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6B-356B-4A2C-857C-E62F50AE9A55&displaylang=en
I wonder if the developer of this app is still around.
Chanced my arm and tried it with WM6 on a TyTn-II ... started and ran OK, but then got errors regarding file layout / format.
Not sure if these are because I am on WM6 and the app is written for WM5, or if the ics file ( from Google Calendar ) is in a format the app doesn't like. I think more likely the former, as the post seems to indicate it was written with GCal in mind.
So, has anyone else had any luck with this in WM6, or even know of something similar. Don't need two way sync with device, just a way to dump my GCal onto my handheld.
Cheers,
nwpsys
No matter, oggsync seems to work for me, as I have tinkered with my GCal calendars a bit to have all my key stuff in one, so I can use the freeware version of oggsync
Google Calendar Sync
5 March 2008 Google Calendar Sync allows you to sync events between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar.

HTC Hero (Android few questions)

Hi Guys,
Its my first step in Android world. I have been using Windows Mobile since last 5 years (Currently HTC tytn II). I am very impressed with HTC Hero promos and customization. But before I move to Android world and buy this phone, it would be very helpful if any of you can provide answers to my following queries. Apologies, as it may be very basic questions for you but these functionalities very necessary for me as I use almost every day in my Windows phone.
Question for Android (HTC Hero)-
1. Can I sync Outlook address and calendar Android (HTC Hero)?
2. Can I open/edit word, excel and power point presentations? (If yes then does it come by default with phone like I got it with my HTC tytnII)
3. I need navigation software. (I saw one is available here http://www.alk.eu.com/. is there any other for Android like i use TomTom in my phone).
4. Any email client where i can configure Pop3, Imap or company microsoft exchange server.
5. Voice chat messengers (like i use fring(www.fring.com) for my windows phone)
Thanks in advance.
Jit
Hello there
Welcome to Android world. I don't know so much about android till now. But if you search the forum you can get all your question answered. I'm trying to help you from my little knowledge.
1. You can sync your contacts and their information from outlook.
2. HTC Hero has Quickoffice. So, I think you should be able to open/edit word, excell or powerpoint docs.
3. You can use AndNav2 for your navigation. The software is free in the Market.
4. Yes, you can configure your e-mail clients.
5. I haven't got any voice messaging service till now for android.
Hope these helps. If you have any other questions first try to search the forum .
Thanks.
there are tons of free IM apps out there.
1) Meebo (the best one)
2) eBuddy
3) IM+ (not free)
4) HelloYm, HelloAim, HelloMSN
5) IM app (built in android)
pda_crazy, as you have a HTC Tytn II, have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396782 and try Android for yourself. The latest build for Kaiser/Tytn II is from the Google Ion (HTC Magic) rather than the Hero, so the Sense UI is not present. Also, wi-fi, camera and bluetooth are not working, but GPS, Android Market and Google sync are. It may require some tweaking to get the best experience on the Tytn II as different versions of the phone seem to have particular issues with calls and/or data but I am running it on my UK Kaiser (MDA Vario III) at the moment and have calls, sms, sync, Android Market and GPS working fine. Battery life is a bit of an issue, but if you can get it working it will give you a chance to download and try out a variety of Android applications before paying for an Android phone.
not so simple
I have a hero. The quick office can only open word docs, have trouble with excel . It will not edit. You can sync outlook contacts and calendar . I could make a gmail account on it but not yahoo so far. Still looking for a good explorer software in which I can keep stuff where I want. Any suggestions ?

Hi there!
As I'm currently a Windows mobile user about to take the step over to Hero I just want to make sure that I can use my Hero at work as well.
Today I sync my work contacts and work calendar with outlook using active sync.
When syncing I don't have to enter any information at all, the sync sets up automatically. Does HTC sync work in the same way!?
Do you have to set up the HTC sync by entering server names and stuff like that, or is it just like active sync that everything is automatical!?
All answers are apreciated!

I am so lazy, i ask here, so i did not start new thread.
Few days still and i get Dream again.
The ROM in it si some Hero thing. Isn´t that mean Dream is rooted and HardSpl in it? I can go and put Cyanogens ROM in it? If i understand it right, you can´t put any other ROM in unless you first put HSpl and root?
Sorry my bad english, hope someone catch what i mean...
Edit: Root and HardSpl ok, so now Cyan and works great...

I was thinking the same thing as i refuse to register my device just to download sync software, it was not like this when i downloaded HTC_Sync_2.0.38 a few weeks ago, and i can download HTC_Sync_2.0.40 without registering a serial easily and use it with no issues, matter a fact i was using HTC_Sync_2.0.40 to sync my outlook and calender even before HTC_Sync_2.0.38 was released so why make us register the device?

Ok, after using this new version i must say that its a step backwards. I like the new GUI and all the eye candy and the ability to install .APK files but it lacks the basic functionality that the HTC_Sync_2.0.38 had.
For instance the old version told you at a glance the number of contacts in outlook and events on the outlook calender, where it is at during the contact syncing and calender syncing. It also gave you more advanced options on syncing.
On this new version Outlook must be set as you default mail client for it to connect with it which is completely bogus. On first connect the device synced on it own using the latest modified data which created duplicated in outlook and my phone, deleted the duplicates from my phone and tried to sync again and it completely wiped the data from outlook, i used the nandroid to restore the contacts to the phone and tried to sync again to get everything back where it was.
A bit angry with the music syncing. The files sync to /Music/ then the full file directory. so if you music is stored in c/:users/username/my documents/music you media wll be synced in the same structure /Music/c/users/username/my documents/music which is more complex than it needs to be. A simple music folder with music/Artist/album is sufficient. Then it took 1 hour to sync 3.8GB of music, that same 3.8 GB takes less than 15 if i remove the card from the device and put in in the card reader.
Long story shorty, im reverting back to HTC_Sync_2.0.40. Sometimes less is more.
Funny that now the new sync is no longer availble on HTC site and the link was changed back to HTC_Sync_2.0.38
http://www.htc.com/us/support/aria-att/downloads/
Hmmm...
You probably want to get on the ball with finding this software as it really has been pulled from the site. Some people have upped the new version for download, so do a search, grab it while its hot and sit on it if you want to sideload with the software (without rooting).
Edit: You can grab it from this thread if you don't have it already

HD2 Gingerbread vs HTC Sync

Hi,
I am not sure if someone else asked this question. I updated my phone to Nand Gingerbread. Everything works great. However, the major problem I am having is that HTC Sync (on Win7 laptop) does not recognize the device.
In the previous Android (2.2), when we used to connect it to the PC, many options would appear to identify the type of the connection. One of those options was "HTC Sync". Choosing this option used to allow HTC Sync software on the windows pc to recognize the device and sync its contents.
However, in Gingerbread I cannot find anyway to connect my HD2 in a "sync" mode in order to allow HTC Sync to recognize it.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
htc sync requires htc sense.

Anyways, my problem is that before I flash my HD2 to Gingerbread, I had Froyo Sense, and I synchronized all my contacts to HTC Sync on my PC, and now after I flashed I found that I cannot get those contacts back...
So I guess my only solution is to flash back to Froyo Sense, get those contacts, sync them using MyPhoneExplorer, and then Flash again to Gingerbread.
Thanks for the help everybody.

HTC Sync uses outlook, you need to look in the setting in the app, you can re-sync your outlook contacts with this program. Thats what its meant for also.

You have to install the tool on your win7 from here.
After that install My Phone Explorer Client from the Market. Connect your phone via WLAN or USB and start the Client on the phone. After that start the app from your win7 and set up your sync source (Outlook/Windows Contacts/Gmail/only MyPhoneExplorer) in settings or via new phone assistent.
You can now sync Contacts/Appointments/SMS/Files/Tasks and Notes (new with separate phone app).
It's the first sync solution where you can sync outlook tasks and notes, I love the tool.

Looks also not bad, but I miss the calendar sync.
And it looks like you can transfer contacts to the phone, but can't sync
changes on the phone or in Outlook.
Can you report please how it works?
