Did you deodex your system?

What is deodex?
Sent from my A953 using XDA App

I guess that means "no".
So thats what you can do:
1) You can download the .apk files and place them in your System/app folder. (I recommend this)
2) Flash your device.
3) Download another app (Most stupid idea)
PS: Where are you from? (What version of MS2 do you have? like French/Brazil etc)

Brazil.
Where can I find this apk and how can i put it in that folder?
Sent from my A953 using XDA App

If you dont even know how to put the files into the folder, how did you manage to remove the app?

Titanium backup. My phone is rooted but i dont have an explorer.program. what do suggest as an app?
Sent from my A953 using XDA App

Root Explorer but it costs...
sorry i dont know any FREE root explorer at this moment give me 5 mins.
Give me 5minutes, then i will upload the .apk files for Contact's.

Ok thank you very much

Do you know how to use ADB? lol.. sorry i really dont know any other RootFile manager :/.. so you either could buy Root Explorer.. or illegally download it somewhere....... there are ways, but i recommend ADB as an alternative (All you need is a Windows PC, USB Cable and AndroidSDK)
Alternatively you could try to find a Root Explorer alternative by searching the Market (I didnt find any): https://market.android.com/search?q=root+explorer&c=apps
But yes all you have to do is:
Download BlurContacts.apk -> http://www.death-force.com/downloads/Milestone%202%20Archiv/Milestone2_OriginalApps/
Download BlurContactsSync.apk -> http://www.death-force.com/downloads/Milestone%202%20Archiv/Milestone2_OriginalApps/
And use a FileExplorer or ADB to put these files into:
Code:
/system/app/
on your Device
EDIT: OH SORRY.. i totally forgot you can use the terminal hehe.. didnt think about that.. so just put the .apk files on your SDCARD
then download: https://market.android.com/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&feature=search_result
And type this into the terminal:
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/BlurContactsSync.apk /system/app
cp /sdcard/BlurContacts.apk /system/app
chmod 0644 /system/app/BlurContacts.apk
chmod 0644 /system/app/BlurContactsSync.apk
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot

It didnt work, i think the problem is the apk file. The terminal and the explorer could not install it there was an error
Sent from my A953 using XDA App

What do you mean.. error .. were you able to even install the Files of the Market? Or didnt even that work?

I installed roor explorer and the terminal but they could not read the apk files
Sent from my A953 using XDA App

they should NOT read the apk files....
you just need to move the .apk files into the folder: /system/app on your Mobile Fone...

I moved them and rebooted the phone but still, no stock contacts

Did you apply the permissions 644 by doing:
Code:
chmod 0644 /system/app/BlurContacts.apk
chmod 0644 /system/app/BlurContactsSync.apk
?

unzip the rom you use, then go to system/framework and unzip the framework-res.apk do the same on an evo rom with the 4g icon. copy the 4g icons over should be in drawable-mdpi on hero and drawable-hdpi for evo rename the 4g icons to the 3g name then open the framework-res.apk in winrar, drpp the res folder from the unzip in it. then do an adb push of the apk you changed back to the /system/framework, reboot and boom you're solid.

Whenever I get that error I do this and it works:
go to the shell, then type: su
then type:

After unzipping my rom I do not see an option to unzip the framework-res.apk

You need to jump on over to the EVO forum and DL a rom from there. None of the roms on the Hero forum are likely to have a 4g icon simply because the Hero doesn't have 4g
All of the Fresh Evo Roms should have the 4G icon, I just checked 1.1 and it does
*The 4G icons for Fresh 1.1 are in com.htc.resources.apk and not the framework-res.apk
Can't modify -
I need a little more help with this - I was able to copy the 4g icons and I have them on my desktop - renamed to their 3g counterparts - but I cant add them to zip because it tells me that the zip I am trying to modify is read-only and can not be modified -

[SOLVED] Uninstall Swype?

I need to uninstall swype and reinstall it. Ive tried over writing it with the default apk but its not removing a theme I installed with metamorph. If I can uninstall it, a fresh install should fix it.
I just dont know how to remove it
I don't know if you want to go to this extreme, but I did. I fudged up the phone real good by removing and installing stuff. I finally got fed up and flashed it back to stock and applied root again. This time I'll keep my fingers out of it. I hated touchwiz in the beginning, but now it's kinda growing on me. I've never had an iphone but the home and drawer remind me of iphone wannabe. It's okay for now.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
There a tool over at sdx-developers that can remove that when root explorer can't. I forget the name of it. There's also a pay app in the market that I think is called root manager that can successfully remove crap too. I didn't have much luck putting the general swype 1.61 in. It refused to install. That's when I think I just flashed it back to factory image. A full reset/wipe wouldn't fix it either.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I had to do this a few days ago for similar reasons. This is what I did:
First, you have to open your browser or other app with a text field. Select the text field then long press the text field again and switch the input method to the stock android kb.
Next, you have to make sure /system is mounted as r/w. The early versions of the the rooting scripts did not remount correctly but the newer ones supposedly fix it. I just looked in the initial rooting .bat file (on the PC) for the remount command and used adb to remount /system.
You can test if it's remounted correctly by renaming Swype.apk to Swype.bak with Root Explorer then going up a level and back to /system/app. If it's not mounted correctly it will show as Swype.apk again. If it shows as Swype.bak still, then you just have to copy the original Swype.apk to /system/app and then switch input method back to Swype!

yea its mounting in r-r, thats def my problem, cant change swype.apk with root explorer
so i need to re-root?
I don't know what's causing it but root explorer doesn't seem to work properly on the phone (not sdcard) filesystem in the system app folder. It's stuck in rw mode. People have said different things why but I forgot. I did noobnl's latest flash and it's still not working right. His script is removing the old root and my phone doesn't have that on there. I don't know what to tell ya. Maybe I should look for another root file manager.

I don't know if re-rooting will fix it or not. You could try. Here's the exact steps I took using adb from the PC:
Code:
adb shell
su
ls /system/app/S* (just shows Swype.apk is in fact in /system/app)
mount -t rfs -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl9 /system
mv /system/app/Swype.apk /system/app/Swype.bak
ls /system/app/S* (just to confirm Swype.apk is now Swype.bak)
cp /sdcard/download/Swype.apk /system/app/Swype.apk (or replace first argument with path of the good Swype.apk on your phone)
ls /system/app/S* (just to confirm Swype.apk and Swype.bak are both there)
reboot (reboots the phone, dunno if its really necessary)

deodex file

Hi guys
I'd manage to manually deodex the app and framework file from my stock rom. The problem are I can't push them either thru adb nor update.zip. Been googling around but can't really get a correct adb command for sgs. I need to push these files so that I can install themes. Anybody who can guide please help. Thanks in advance.
You need super user permission to push things into read only memory. So you would need to go through adb shell, mount whatever folder framework is in to readable, etc.

Hi snapper.fishes
By the way, I got superuser permission. The only problem I don't know the correct command for the adb shell - su - mount etc, etc....
This are the command I got from Droid forum but it does not work for SGS I guest.
adb shell
su
stop
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/done_app/* /system/app/
cp /sdcard/done_frame/* /system/framework/
rm /system/app/*.odex
rm /system/framework/*.odex
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot
Anybody got any idea?
Try this:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /sdcard/done_app/* /system/app/
cp /sdcard/done_frame/* /system/framework/
rm /system/app/*.odex

I say remove the lagfix first. It's not necessary, but if you do screw up your phone you are going to have to reflash your phone, and the last thing you want to do is to flash your phone with lagfix on.

It's been a long time since I pushed files this way. Right now I'm using update zips and flash it via ulfk. Reason: it is much more simpler and more effective. If I remember correctly, your apk files need to be deleted too before you can push your deodexed apks and jars files to the system folder if you do it via adb.
Besides, I would not advocate this method of pushing through adb, bcos, there is always chances that your /system, /data partitions may result in data corruption.
Try using update zip.

Hey angiogram... I'm not sure if this thread still has a pulse, but I came across this thread and feel confident I can offer you some great information.
g00udu was on the right track, only one small detail I would add is reverting the permissions back to the system files once returned to the system directory.
See this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990238
for an extremely detailed step by step how to perform this process from beginning to end.
If this issue has been resolved, keep it for future reference or pass it on to someone who you believe it may help.
Peace-
Thanks Liv33vil.

What app/technique to remove stock apps after root?

Right now I'm fully unlocked/rooted, but I'm wondering how any of you might have been able to successfully remove/uninstall stock apps? Obviously if this was on my N1 I'd just use TB, but as I'm sure others have found TB is currently unable to detect the apps (unless someone has gotten it to work??).
Thanks, hope someone has a suggestion!
I was able to uninstall them using Better Terminal Emulator. The code is pretty simple:
su
cd /system/app
mv Cordy.apk Cordy.apkb
mv DungeonDefenders.apk DungeonDefenders.apkb
exit
exit
This only changes the file type so the don't show up. If you want true uninstall (irreversible) use:
su
cd /system/app
rm Cordy.apk
rm DungeonDefenders.apk
exit
exit
If you want to know file names in the system apps folder, use:
cd /system/app
ls

Or u can simply use an app on the app store called. Boot Animation Changer Lite. Once u download it you will get a folder in your sd card that says like bootamios or something. Click on stock and delete the zip file that's in there. Drag the animation u want in there the .zip file and exit. Go back to app. Click animation in bottem righht. Scroll all the way down till u see stock and done.

Just use terminal, your app might be messing up or having compatibility issues for some reason.
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /location/to/bootanimation.zip /system/media
That should do it.
Example:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp sdcard/zips/animate/bootanimation.zip /system/media
i think it might of had something to do with the sense rom i was running, because once i flashed back to cm7 it was a piece of cake

I did once. and I've found that if I go into the bootanim folder and replace the bootanimation.zip in the stock folder, then go to boot anamation changer and tell it to run stock then it will change it to the new file however that just seems like a dumb way to go about doing it.
