Ask him if he has any uncapped HSUPA as well...

The Motorola Solutions division is the same way with their software for their two-way radios. They guard it like a hawk and are quick to sue like the RIAA.
On that note, we should send a similar letter indicating that we are the sole owners of the phones in our possession and that they need to return the unlocked bootloader and HSUPA that they stole from us.

Good thing I got RSD Lite 5.0 and the SBF before a lot of sites took them down due to copyright violations.

This would be bad news for devs trying to crack the bootloeader as im sure CCD letters would be issues out

Yup this would be the smart thing to do.

How big is the RSDLite file? I need it. Can someone direct me to where I can download it from pls??

I have finished downloading the SBF. Can someone PM me regarding obtaining a download of RSDLite? I need to download it, but unable to find it online anymore.
UPDATE: Nevermind someone point me to the download of RSDLite. It's still online, just needed to select a different file host site.

Don't be a tool Pixo. I know darned well who's keeping HSUPA from Atrix owners. I also know who it is that locked the bootloader which keeps devs from enabling HSUPA on both at&t AND Bell.
Look at the HTC Inspire...HSUPA was crippled by at&t but HTC didn't lock it down so it was easily enabled by those in the know. Same with the Samsung Captivate.
Since it's Motorola's policy to lock all bootloaders, I feel the blame falls mainly on them.

ouch. thats grim.
Honestly, I'd be very surprised if the Evo 3D was locked down like this. I'm willing to bet that Verizon asked them to make it this way, and they complied.
Sprint, on the other hand, hasn't been the type of company to try to keep everything locked down and make it harder for the dev community. Big V definitely has, as exemplified by the Droid X.
Besides, even if it does come out all locked down like that, the devs here will have it opened up within a few days.
that would have been my next question, if V had requested this setup specifically.
it would seem the "other companies" are oh-so-bunched-up re: tethering w/o a plan, being the big issue with custom ROMs. Sprint might not be as concerned (so far) about that, and thus, not concerned about rooted phones? idk... idle speculation
No surprise here. After all, they did cripple their gpus for over 4 years. This is nothing. Htc = garbage.
Hoping that this is just because of douche-baggery on Verizon's part -- that they requested the phone be totally locked down, like the Moto products that they are selling.
On the other hand, the devs only took three days to break all that ****, so perhaps it's a case of "anything you can do, we can do better," and HTC/Verizon's efforts will meet with utter #FAIL.

I think it does. I remember back when we were starting to flashing ROMs... well they had to be signed in order to be installed or the recovery program would outright refuse to put it on the phone. I guess the implication on this is that even the recovery image itself must be signed in order to install as well as the ROMs. Now, with the EVO, the recovery part does not care if the ROM zip file is signed or not (well, RA has this setting disabled so it will flash regardless) but there was one point where any file that needed to be flashed on the device needed to be signed.

I highly doubt it is even possible for any company to completely lock out android hackers. We have some of the most knowledgeable hackers in our community, some of whom have been around for many many years and have seen there share of OS's
They can slow us down, but they can never stop us.
If they do manage to stop us then I shall move to windows 7 (highly unlikely)

there are Atrix haters as well as moto haters, i've debated and well as read comments from quite a few of them, but people that have the wrong attitude and give up so easily on the phone ain't helping at all(or people that never had the phone to begin with), but i understand some people have their needs or wants in a phone and the atrix may not be it for them, but don't bash it just because you may not like it, never even owned it but have negative comments about it, have a defective device or whatever, and no i'm not saying that YOU have done any of this, but i'm tired of seeing it.....
but back to what this topic is actually about, hopefully this topic catches the devs attention
sooo.. ignoring the differences in architecture between omap and tegra, were the two bootloaders secured in the same fashion?> signed? signed and locked? locked?

Gingerbread for the Atrix(not trolling)

So i just called in to att trying to get a credit for my gimped phone, i didn't get a credit sadly but i did get some interesting info.
First and probably the coolest, the guy told me that att does plan on releasing gingerbread for the atrix before the end of Q3 as well as the boot loader unlock. The second thing he told me is that att doesn't plan on allowing side-loading and he said its not looking like the amazon app store, however they aren't holding it against people that are figuring out a way to side load.
Anyways it is what it is but its some info, he also seemed rather shocked that the boot loader wasn't cracked yet, dunno why though when i pressed him he shut up about it.
Q3?! Wow, that is still some time away :/
By that time, most likely Ice Cream will be out already...
interesting info about the bootloader as well... so it should not be that difficult? Hmm...
Interesting no doubt... I think they will have a way to unlock at the sacrifice of your warranty.

Yeah, end of Q3 for AT&T is September, I just checked (they run a Jan - Dec fiscal year). That's a super long time away for something that's already been in work since before the phone was released (based on the engineering build in the Android development forum).

it is a art
2.4 will more than likely not be called ice cream it'll still be call gingerbread. And what the guy said goes along with what the australian guy posted in his thread about motorola giving a bootloader solution similar to what the xoom has but it would be up to the discretion of the carrier if they'd allow it or not and that it would all happen in the ladder part of 2011. But to hear it from att rep is interesting but I don't hold my breathe
http://m.pocketnow.com/android/motorola-promises-android-bootloader-unlock-in-late-2011 maybe the rep just read this and said att was gonna do it... you know how this reps are

There may be some contractual issue with a 3rd party that is preventing AT&T from "giving" us sideloading, such as a conflict with an AT&T partner and Amazon for example, so it may make sense to not allow it, although they know fully it's going to happen in any event. I think unlocking the bootloader is what's important. The community has enabled pretty much everything else, including sideloading. I do agree though, it's kind of a contradiction.

based on how much these service people actually know, i'm betting they are talking out of their ass. I'm sure he is basing it off of the HTC devices they sell, which are rather easy to meddle with. Since AT&T has never sold a motorola android device before, if they didn't research before speaking, they would have no idea. Here is what i wrote,
Signed/Encrypted bootloaders... Come on HTC... This really pisses me off. Think about it, really, what are you losing here? Almost nothing. It is the persons choice to root, so you lose no quality control.
But back onto the actually point. Signing/encrypting bootloaders or other functions of a device that a consumer owns was considered a radical idea. It was frowned upon and was thought of as childish. And that is how you guys are acting, childish. You lock down your phones because your scared of what.... progress?
I understand there are some problems for you with rooting. For example, free wireless tethering, ability to use leaked ROMs and other factors. But this is such a small hand off to wage war with developers. Microsoft did it, Sony did it, even Apple did it.... Look were they all are now. The hackers do everything they can to make sure they can hack and DOMINATE the devices they lock down. In Microsoft's and Sony's case, there is a difference in reason, piracy. Now, tell me, if I can already install any app on my phone, what piracy are you protecting users form by not allowing them to do anything custom with their phone?
You have brought the whole world a step backwards, as a lot of people believe in your philosophies, and eventually will standardize them. What this about to start is enormous, there is no problem right now for you because people aren't even trying to hack your gay signature checks. Why? Because those developers DONT BUY THAT PHONE. ------->DONT<---- Buy that phone. Now, once that this standdard is implemented with every single modern phone, you guys will be tormented by the constant stream of hacks and exploits the a full force of developers can bring. You will be stressed to the point as the iPhone jailbreaking scene replicates itself to Android devices.
I mean come on HTC, do you really want to start all of this? I wouldn't. By not locking down your devices, you gain more customers(even though its a small percent that would leave because of your decisions), you gain a better view from people as a good company, and you get the benefit of geeks saying good things about you on their blogs. Yes HTC, thats were all the reviews come from, US. We will spare you no mercy in our reviews if you condemn us to this treatment any longer.
On a final note, i hope to rethink your decisions to sign/encrypt bootloaders and other parts of the phone. The whole point of Android is to be OPEN, not CLOSED. Thats what makes it different. The point is to be open, no matter what COST or FACTORS convince you otherwise. I do not even want to buy the HTC Evo 3D now because of your changes. Now HTC, rethink what you have done, please, and see if you can change it before it gets out of hand. In the end, you are the company that gets to make the decisions, but we are the consumers who buy your products.
Thanks so much for a great ride so far HTC,
You will be missed

So does this mean the Evo 3d can never be rooted? Or does it just make it more difficult ?

Let's ask Punit Soni for the Kernel Sources of the ICS LEAK

Punit Soni needs to know that there is a lot of people intested in the kernel source of their incomplete work on ICS.
Let's ask him for that https://plus.google.com/111499908439497508351
I think it could help us to get an working ICS =)
Thank you Guys!
We were lucky to get anything other than a standard textbook reply from Motorola. Motorola will never release source as it has a lot of proprietary code and drivers to which they might no longer have rights to. Also, I can't imagine them releasing it only to be told that unpaid enthusiasts were able to do what their employees couldn't.

I don't think Punit Soni is the right guy for that.

But if we get only the GPL sources, we could use the proprietary libraries in the leak. If the proprietary libraries are ok, then we could fix the problems with the leak's kernel (like battery drain, deep sleep).
In fact, looks like they have reasons to not release the GPL sources... But doesn't hurt to ask Punit Soni about it...

He isnt the vice president of moto. He is the vice president of product management. For about a month straight the atrix and photon community asked him over and over to do something to no avail. By all means, try again. But just saying, its been done before.
Well let's just add a layer of anger. I'm pretty bored of this crappy company not giving us what we need.
imho Punit is the guy that's responsible for the cancellation of ICS update. He was talking about bitter decisions before the announcement.
And as an employee of Google, he wont give anything that will give more life to Atrix.
If you want a phone with 4.x, sell your Atrix or work some overtime and buy another phone.

May I ask why are you still following Atrix threads and posting posts like this?! If you have or made decision to buy another phone, just buy it and leave others without your advises.

Thanks for the advice. But couldn't you tell me how to get 300€ to get a Nexus 4 ? I bought my Atrix 6 months ago and I waited something like 6 months to buy it.
I think its worth a try to get a reply of what he thinks of helping us!

I think we should make this as a hot post and
make atrix users post comments for need of atrix ics or kernel in his g+:fingers-crossed:
Krystian Plonski posted about engineering atrixes with enabled uart on headset jack. Let's put a "+1" on his request!!

Because I still use the Atrix, obviously. See how it does that nifty trick of saying what its sent with?
I'm not sitting here complaining about ICS for the Atrix. I use CM10 If you want ICS, get another phone. Very simple. Like me, I'm working overtime to buy another phone. But trying to spam a guy isn't going to get ICS on your phone.
And I should point out you are in the wrong place to tell someone they can't advise people abut phones.

This is not first time that you're giving that kind of advice. Someone is not willing to work overtime or just can't. Someone just like Atrix size and features, doesn't need anything better... So many reasons.
Actually you're wrong. I had Desire. HTC announced that will not be GB update. Community was so loud that HTC change its mind. If a lot of people request, Motorola must do something. The worst thing is to do what you did, buy another phone (doesn't matter which vendor) because that's exactly what vendors wish!

Buy Nexus. Problem solved. If you don't, don't expect updates. View them as miracles if they get pushed trough.
