Titanium backup Just Got Weird On Me - EVO 4G General

I use TB a lot, and today it did, and continues to do something odd.
When I hit Backup/Restore, then batch, I get the screen where you select how you want to backup or restore things, then no matter what I hit, instead of the screen where you get to choose what to backup, it goes back to the main screen with the listing of all the apps/data on your phone.
Now I can do a backup or restore from there, one at a time by pressing on an app, then selecting what I want, but that's it.
WTF?

click the Problems box and redownload busybox. If that doesnt work, try uninstalling and reinstall TB.

Thx.. never considered re d/l'ing busybox

I've seen this. Clearing data for TB seems to clear it up too.

Actually, that's exactly what I did, and it did fix it.

So you have TB playing nice with CM7? Gingerbread + TB has always crapped on me.

Really?? I Never had an issue with it on CM

Cm7 USED to do that

SPB Backup Freezes !(Help please)!

Hi,
My SPB backup stops working after a while.
When I run it and start the backup it just seats there with the cube turning for ever and the completion bar doesn't move at all. Un-install and reinstall doesn't fix it. Even restoring a backup of the time it used to work doesn't fix it. But when I hard reset and everything from scratch fixes it (so I don't think it's any particular program I have installed). After I reinstalled it, it worked for about a month and then died again. This has happened twice so far. I'm tired of reinstalling everything from scratch.
Has anyone had any experienced this?
THanks,
2/16/2008
**********PROBLEM FIXED***********
SPB Softwarehouse just wrote to me with the Solution, and dew.man was correct. The solution is to :
uncheck the 'Stop processes before backup' option in Spb Backup-> Tools-> Advanced options to see if it solves the problem?
Thanks everyone.

OH Good at least, now I know it's not just my device.
I sent a message to SPBSoftwarehouse, I'll let you know if I hear anything.
Me Too!!!!
I have the same problem. It squawks that it is unable to backup some file in Windows with a weird name and just hangs trying to copy it. I found that out when I left it run over night. I too have sent a request for assistance to spb but it has been over a week now and no response from them. I have since switched to another backup program for now.

Which one are you using? is it similar in capability, power, and reliability to the SPB?
Thanks,
I had the same thing happen.
It stopped working after i decided to test out my latest backup. After i restored the device, it has not worked since. It was my first time restoring, before that it always made backups whenever i tried.
I never let it sit there all night, i'll give that a shot and see the file name it is stuck on.
There's a simple fix for this.
I don't remember the exact location off the top of my head, but when you're doing a backup, there's a setting/checkbox to stop all processes. Changing this from the default clears up the freezing, yet still yields reliable backups.
sprite backup is great, but dont really want to pay for it.
got the SPB one free, so would like fofr it to start working again...

Using SKTools which includes a backup function. It appears to work without intervention and actually reboots the device twice during the process to ensure that it is in complete control of what is running (only itself). I never received a response from spb and my question would be - How reliable is a backup that allows other processes to run at the same time? Any file that the backup program does not have exclusive access to will either not backup or if it does will be corrupted (I am the second person on the backup team at a major Canadian University). So that option of not stopping processes before backup does not seem like a good one to me!

I see your point. I ran a backup and the error logs shows the same errors as when SPB was stopping the running programs. I will however pose that question to SPB and see what they say.
I will do a hard reset and restore just to see for myself. I'll pst the results.
--------
I just did the test. Hard Reset to stock Touch and restored the file and everything is there and all the programs I tested seem to work fine.
Haha I had the same problem, I must have unchecked the box once while I was playing around with my settings. I tried to use spb again yesterday and I was suprised that it didn't freeze. I had no idea it was because I had unchecked the box. I wish I had cam accross this post earlier however, would have saved me some greif.
I've used SpbBackup extensively while playing with custom roms, and found it very reliable.
You gotta remember that most of the processes running/file locks are OS related and you should not be using Spb between different OS versions anyway...
Mine recently started doing this to. Using SPB backup which used to work flawless. First, I cannot get it to do a scheduled backup. Everything is set for 2AM M-Sun but when I wake up in the morning I find that it did not back up or is frozen in the backup program.
Second, when I try to run a manual backup, it takes forever to start (and says backup process has not been restonding, do you want to cancel backup?).
I recently installed UltimateLauncher but nothing else I can think of (although I can constantly tinkering, etc.). It seems very sporatic, sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. I have checked to see that the "stop processes" box is checked.
Any ideas?

it has to be unchecked. (the program freezes when it tries to stop the processes)
Holy crap. you're right. In my mind I had it reversed even though I knew what that meant. I have unchecked it and will check to see if it backups up tonight. Sweet! thanks!

Most complete Backup app?

What's the best backup app? I'd like something that saves all contacts, messages...possibly settings. Not too bothered about apps.
If it doesn't save apps, it's not very complete
MyBackup is OK, but I can't see it on the market as it's protected and for now Desire will not show protected apps.

You sure? It shows up ok in the one i have for the moment (Unbranded, 1.15.405.4)
UPDATE: Actually, just noticed it is only the trial that shows up.....here we go again with the protected apps nonsense!
I would strongly recommend Titanium Backup.
It does everything you need, plus lots of extra goodies

[Q] `com.android.htcprofile` and `recovery` in Titanium Backup

At the bottom of my Titanium Backup application list I see two entries: `com.android.htcprofile` and `recovery`. Both are crossed out, as if they stand for uninstalled applications. They are not backed up, so there's no reason for them to appear in the list. Refreshing the list does not make these entries to go away.
What are these entries? What is the importance of having them in the list? Why does Titanium Backup display these entries in the list, even though Titanium Backup itself seems to understand that they are "uninstalled" and not backed up?
BUMP
I was wondering the same thing, I don't see Recovery anywhere in my list but I do see com.android.htcprofile
I'm having problems with my widgets disappearing on the stock Rom. Only on the stock homescreen not ADW. Was thinking this could be the cause possibly?

If it was i am thinking it is.
HTC profile is a stock application much like blackberry has different applications. Same basic idea. When you are are home, and you have the "home profile" active it will not pull your work emails. If you are at work it pulls everything but lowers the volume not to disturb people around you.
and i do not have "recovery" on mine so i do not know what it does.
google doesn't even know the answer to your question, therefore, it must not have an answer.

Well, what I'd like to know is not what "HTC profile" does. The main question here is really about Titanium Backup: what exactly does that mean when Titanium Backup shows in its list an application that is crossed-out?
Normally, Titanium Backup shows a crossed-out application when you uninstall something. An uninstalled app is shown crossed-out until you refresh the list. After refresh it disappears. Sometimes, an uninstalled application might remain in the list if you previously backed it up. So, a persistent crossed-out entry normally means "it is uninstalled, but you still have a backup for it".
In my case I see `com.android.htcprofile` and `recovery` crossed-out in the list, but I have no backup for these applications. So, the question is why Titanium Backup keeps showing them in the list? What is Titanium Backup trying to tell me by keeping these crossed-out entries in its list?
Same here. DAMN, and I just did a system wipe, thinking I unistalled something by mistaki
I ended up at this thread when I Googled after encountering the same thing. I came across it because I was trying to free up some space. It is associated with a 4 MB+ text file which Titanium can't delete. I think the text file is the reason it's showing up.

[Q] Removing preinstalled apps on HTC EVO 4g Sprint

Would like to know if there is a simple way to remove the crap apps they preinstalled on my evo, like stocks and its widget, sprint football etc.
I'm not sure all this root and roms stuff is for me I don't invison doing the things you all do I just want to get rid of some of the apps I'll never use that drain the battery and use up space.
Thanks
Steve
Thanks
You have to be rooted first. The go into titanium backup, and you can delete the stock sprint apps; football, ect.

Couldn't he use that temp root application with titanium backup then just reboot his phone?
I think the temp root application is called 4zroot or something.

I would suppose he could; but I've never used it, so I didn't recommend it having no use with it, or its limitations; other than it looses root after every reboot.
I don't think z4root supports the EVO

Get the app here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833954
But like teh roxxorz said I have never used it so I don't know. As easy as it is to run unrevoked I would say just use unrevoked and be done with it. That way fubar59 can install a custom recovery and make a nandroid backup before removing anything. Making it that much easier to fix if something goes wrong because some of the app are required by the system. Than it is to explain to Sprint why their apps are not on the phone.
I know you said you don't think you want to bother with rooting and all but...
If it's really that big of a deal to get the bloatware off I'd say go ahead and just spend a little time and root your phone...
I didn't really think I wanted to bother with it either but after I did I started flashin all sorts of stuff and am really glad that I did it...
Plus, after you root and get the stuff off that you dont need then you can just keep on using your phone the way you always have and when/if you ever feel like making a nandroid or flashing a new ROM then you're set...
Questions
OK, thanks for the answers. I guess I'll root the thing as I am tired of the crap apps reactivating after I force close them. Battery drain when you are away from your charger is a problem for me on several occassions and it is a pain in the butt.
Thanks again for the replys!

You are completely misunderstood. DO NOT force close any apps in android, or use task killers. They are not needed, and THEY are causing your battery to drain faster.
Android is completely different from windows. Just because you see all those programs listed as "running" in your task killer, well they actually arent. They are just cached. Android likes to keep its memory full of apps, and if it needs more memory, it will handle that by closing apps on its own.
When YOU force close any apps, the Android OS sees a lot of empty space in its memory, and will automatically load those apps back into cache. That's the reason why everytime you force close those apps, they come right back. Because you are disrupting the way android works.
if the apps you uninstalled keep returning after a reboot, use a file manager with root and navigate to /system/apps and delete the ones you dont want, then uninstall them again
sorry, was referring to my earlier question. Still learning this site and its tools.

Nandroid Manager

Hey guys, i found this awesome app here on xda and thought i would share it with the inc community. What it does is restore your apps and app data (user and system) from a nandroid to your current rom. It can also restore wifi settings , bluetooth settings, bookmarks, home screen shortcuts, etc... It is in beta right now and not on the market yet, but works well on the inc thanks to some fixes by the developer. Here is the apps thread if anyone is interested. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044414
Thanks man but can't TB already do this? Never tried it though.
On a side note, or the same. Looking to get a new phone in the coming months, TB will be able to transfer game saves (like angry birds) from the incredible to another droid without a problem right?

I dont know if TB can do this or not. I paid for and tried TB a while ago and found it over complicated, so i got a refund. My understanding is that TB has to run its own backup on an old rom and then restores it to a newly flashed rom. Where this app cuts out a step and extracts the apps and data from a nandroid you were going to make any way. Also for the moment at least, this app is free.
