Is anyone using the Trophy in the USA? - Trophy General

If so on what carrier and what are the side effects?

I am testing a Verizon Trophy.... so far so good!

I'm using it with T-Mobile without any problems

Does your Trophy get to use 3G on T-Mobile?

really? awesome, any idea on a release date? rumor says the 24th. Overall how does it work? Is the screen nice (I know it isn't SAMOLED, but I hear SLCD) does it have a kickstand? I assume the card slot is not easily accessible...

I have no info on release.. but I am bugging them often.. they don't tell the reps squat. Works great, no kickstand, FM radio, 16gb.. Didn't tear apart the shield, so I am sure it is hidden.. but the 16 gb rocks.

Regardless, thanks for the update MetalHd... Verizon has a sale (for my wife) if they can ever get the thing to market...

Can you confirm it's got the Super LCD or not(SLCD) ?
A email was leaked for it being released on the 24th....are you that close to release or do you think it's still buggy ?
I'm sure everyone has seen this but, according the e-mail, the Thunderbolt was released on schedule, so maybe the VZW trophy will...
Sick of waiting on Verizon to release one...really thinking about changing carrers, and with the Merge of AT&T/T-mobile, GSM could be the next big thing here in the US

Well, the official Thunderbolt announcement happened on the 15th (two days prior), so perhaps tomorrow we'll see an official Trophy announcement? Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for posting - can you share some info?
What is the rating on the battery - 1250mah?
Have you tried leaving BT on all day - how long did the battery last with what kind of use -e.g. push email, 1 hour on the phone...
Any significant issues with WP7 so far?

I just want to have an idea on when Verizon will release the phone....WE MUST BE GETTING CLOSE !!!!! Someone give me something !!!

Is there anyone using an unlocked trophy on vzw in the u.s...does the unlocked trophy in the us/anywhere have cdma radio visible after nodo update??? nodo was pushed to all unbranded phones i think..and I dont think htc would make phone with a different radio same name...raphael/fuze

no they are different... the trophy has a qualcomm 8655(dual band? w/us cdma)
the arrive has a qualcomm 8600(us cdma)
all gsm win pho 7 (including the spark(Trophy))have a qualcomm 8250

Does anyone have an unbranded trophy w/a qualcomm 8655 in it ..I guess is the real question

Dreamspark?

OK guys, for those of us that don't know what Dreamspark is, can you enlighten us. How do they offer unlocking the US Trophy on Verizon?

Battery life is great... I have bluetooth on all the time. The battery lasts a day, usually about 40% when I plug in at night. Push email is setup with an exchange server... the gps usage is nicer on the battery as well. It seems the different radios are much better with power management.
Dreamspark is the microsoft developer program for students. Lots of free goodies.
Also, no updates have been visible for the device. No MS or HTC.

Wishing I could get a high end WP7 phone or iPhone 5 today!

Thanks for the info. I've been holding onto the vogue for ages - I'm still on Sprint. I tried the Diamond and it didn't last more than a few hours so I went back to the Vogue. Since I foolishly thought WP7 would come out sooner and because I didn't want a bulkier phone I skipped the HTC Touch Pro 2 (sprint never offered the imagio). I still have a great plan so I haven't switched carriers or phones as I'll have to change to the unlimited everything plan with Sprint at $110 to get enough land line minutes for my needs (double what I pay now).
I am having a hard time deciding what to do. I would love to buy a decent WP7 phone today but only ATT and Tmobile have any WP7 phones I want and I don't get good coverage with either where I need them. I want a WP7 phone however the Trophy hardware isn't blowing a lot of wind up my skirt. I would jump in a second if I could get a 4.3" screen - maybe on hardware like the EVO 3D - hell, I'd be happy with hardware like the Thunderbolt. I'd even buy a Focus on Verizon today if I could. I set up phones for my clients all the time so I see some pretty nice hardware including the new HD7 and the Focus.
Since Verizon didn't go for what I would consider a high end WP7 phone with a 4-4.3" screen I'll see what happens in June to find out if Apple releases the iphone 5. While I actually like WP7 a lot, Verizon seems pretty determined not to encourage WP7 sales and the Arrive on Sprint is even less like what I'd want in a WP7 phone.

Does anyone have a f'n clue when verizon will be getting one ?????????

tmobile one was fake..and there is no android 3.0 yet
The phone does look amazing, but the biggest drawback in my opinion is the same thing that made me purchase a Hero; "Sense" (even though I love it). Maybe HTC's OS release times will improve, but I'm not so sure it'll be worth waiting so long for them to update the UI every time a major OS update is released in the future. I think it'll be vanilla Android only, for me, from here on out. I just need something with that 4.3" screen
I want it!!!!
My next device will have a physical keyboard and large screen.
HTC is coming out with phone after phone. But has no time to support the phones that are already out. This ticks me off a bit..
meh...i can wait. My Hero does just fine for me, and I can wait until October to see what comes out when I upgrade again
if it's sprint, where is their logo?
they won't sell a phone without that on it. Could be an early mockup, but still
I can wait...
Hero is the best phone I've had yet, if I can hold onto an Instinct for a yr, I can easily stay with this...
I want a full keyboard android phone. The moment sucks though
Meh. 4.3" screen is too large to carry around day-to-day.
I'll take a Hero-sized device with Snapdragon, thanks.

Maybe you should quit wearin skinny jeans then.
Im rockin this bad boy when my upgrade comes back up Oct. 11, 2010.
Ha Ha. Skinny jeans. I think im gonna rock the fanny pack again and pick this sucker up. Cant get rid of my skinny jeans.
I have been really impressed with Android so far despite the fact that the Hero is "officially" still stuck on 1.5...
I'm still primarily a WinMo user (personal phone: Sprint Touch Pro running VetVito's newest ROM), but my work got my dept a Hero as a remote-support/on-call phone, which actually kind of backfired as we were expecting it would have VPN (the Sprint Rep told us it would), so I have been testing out the custom Hero ROMs trying to find one with functional VPN (i.e. 1.6/2.0/2.1). No luck yet, but there are a couple new ROMs out in the last few days that I haven't had a chance to try yet...
But in regard to my personal phone, I am really hoping that Sprint will have a phone w/ a larger screen by the time my upgrade comes back up in Feb. I would totally go for an Android phone, but being that I have been primarily a WinMo user since ~2001 I am pretty exited about WinMo 7 coming out, too bad they won't have any phones actually released until well after I will use my next upgrade...
But I am praying that Sprint will either get the Android 2.1 update for the Hero or another Android phone that comes with 2.1 by the time I upgrade, I really like the Hero but I am going to go with the most current OS I can...
And Snapdragon + a bigger screen would rock!
I agree...I don't want a phone bigger in size than my Hero, but I would like a full screen from top to bottom with smaller buttons, the buttons on the bottom and that stupid trackball could go and I'd be even happier...
I saw a Droid on the train I take home and there is no way I could carry that thing around all day.

Let's be real for a minute... I want 2.1 as bad as anyone, and it's really frustrating not to have it since there have been leaked roms floating around for a couple months... but riddle me this:
Other than the Droid and Nexus 1, which phones have received a 2.x update?
HTC isn't any further behind the 8 ball than anyone else in this regard.

No phones from anyone anywhere have received a 2.x update. Period.
It looks like the Hero will actually end up being among the first, if not the first, to receive it.
No love for the trackball??? I personally love it...living in Denver I don't want to have to pull my gloves off to look at the widgets. I wouldn't mind an optical 'trackball'.
And for the size, I'm not sure yet if it's to big. I would love to check it out once it's out and see if it's pocketable and sized right for day to day use. My guess is that 4.3" is probably about as big as you'd ever want to go before it simply becomes a tablet...

some small things worrying me before i purchase a nexus one.

ok so i am 99% sure i will buy the nexus one, i just have some concerns.
for one i have been hearing ever since the phone was released about the dust issue, also heard that htc knows about this and would fix what was needed. so the qeustion about this is if this is a valid reason for me to hold of on buying a nexus one?
the second thing is that i am not sure i want to root yet (probably willl^^) but the concern is that the stock kernel as i understand it only supports half of the ram in the nexus one leaving the other half useless. will google deploy a kernel update anytime soon and how much does it show when using the stock device that such a big part of the ram isn´t used?
thanks in advance
ignore the fud... hundreds of thousands of people are very happy with their stock N1..
if you get it, and are not happy with stock... you got options.
can't say that about the other contenders.
i got mine yesterday.
the screen itself seems fine. the screen cover isn't peeling up but i have a rather large spec of dust under it? no idea if it was there from when it was built or magically worked it's way under there...
good thing it has a 12 month hardware warranty i guess? i wonder if unlocking the bootloader will void the warranty for something so obviously unrelated.

just got off the phone with HTC support. if you root/unlock the boot loader the entire warranty is voided. even if it has dust under the screen.
hopefully someone figures out how to relock it soon..
but ANY dust under the screen will be enough of a reason for a hardware replacement within the 12 month warranty period if you haven't done anything to void the warranty.
I've had mine since launch with no dust issues. The RAM thing was originally brought up by Google developers who said they are working on implementing it.
Also had mine since launch with no dust issues or any other bugs! It still flies with the current ram (should get more ram update from google soon). Play with it a while before you want to root!

does the N1 really only have 256MB of ram currently accessible? that would explain why i only tend to have ~110MB of ram free after shutting all applications down.
and seriously, 10 minutes in the hacking and development sections or the theme area and you want to root.

Been very happy. Never had a problems with dust or the stock rom. Plenty of customization options out there for the stock N1's too.
Go for it and it you have smooth sailing after a few months maybe you'll root it.

the dust issue is a very isolated and rare case... you will get a new phone no charges toward you if you have this issue...
as for the stock kernel, there is plenty of memory... i ran stock for the first month and a half before i rooted to the dark side... never had a big slow down issue and even then just get a task manager... i was getting like 100mb of ram on stock with almost everything closed

Yes on only 256MB active on the N1! There is a hack in development if you need more and can't wait for the ota.
True about the fun after root for most, but this was the op's 1st post.
Two things... what does "fud" mean? As for the 256mb, it hasn't been an issue yet. My phone's logged over 220 hours of uptime without any slowdowns and I haven't killed a single task in that time. Stock ROM..not rooted and locked bootloader. I'm confident that Google will update the kernel soon...hopefully along with a better tweak to the 3G connectivity.
Thanks for all your answers! Im definently buying i nexus one soon was thinking about getting desire instead but hate sense and the droid eris still has not been rooted so the same could happen with the desire.
Thanks again!

It looks like a giant candybar! I have nothing against the Evo 4G nor the HD2 which I previously owned (I took it back! Found the recipt DJ!) but the enormous screens aren't for me. They just feel like their gonna snap with their extreme thiness, not to mention the battery life was bad on my hd2 due to a 1230 mah. But, the Evo and HD2 are fine, this thing is rediculous. It's longer than the rest and what's up with the mirrored finish around the screen? If you wanna make a 4.4 inch look bigger on a phone your insane!
Much too big for my daily use. Plus we need detailed specs & benchmarks for evaluating it

Yea, no decently spec'd Android phone in a while that's GSM. I mean the Galaxy s thingamajig (I don't know what it's called) is the most advanced gsm we have right now, but unfortunately no HTC's since the desire! Sometimes I like to express emotions with a pic borrowed from the internet.
Regarding the Droid X:
I don't think the EVO is too big, but it's pushing it. This thing is even bigger and the backwards chin would irritate the buhjezus out of me. That thing looks more like a multimedia device that includes a phone.
Of course I'm biased after several years of good service but I'm extremely pleased with Sprin't lineup lately. Not much to choose from but what they have is up there with the best of em, at least compared to what's available in the US

My guess is that the only reason they offer ANY android phones is because apple lets them in order to disguise their plans for world domination, and if they can get a few android people on board then they are at least a little closer to the iPhone and may one day opt for an iPhone when upgrade time rolls around.
AT&T offering android is like a consolation prize... it's more symbolic than anything.
will it have a front facing camera ?
I personally enjoy oversized screens, so I think the Droid X will be my next phone. I have a question, though -- will the phone have a decent modding community around it in the way that the EVO does? I realize that it's a difficult question to answer right now, but I'm very excited about getting a new phone (and rooting it).

Also, let me take the opportunity to talk about video calling. Just regular calls around me annoy me, video calls are going to enrage me. Try not to be a douche and take your calls in private, please.

HAHAHA, too funny. I would really hope that people have enough sense to use vidoe calling when and where it's intended (ie. at home, in the office. NOT on the subway, in a restaurant, etc..)
Alas I am sure there will be plenty of people that just can't stand for other people to see them on a regular old voice call when they could be seeing them on a video call on their awesome new phone.
Please, please, please if you end up feeding someone a knuckle sandwich for being on a video call in public have a friend catch it on video for our viewing pleasure

very cool phone, walk around in the airport listening to music, get the ok from pilot for electronics, switch to a movie, read the usatoday, send my wife a msg on gtalk, flip back to movie, etc etc etc
I love my EVO too which is why I am so sad that HTC put a cap on the graphics and I may have to return it...

+1 for this topic! I love mine as well. Amazing phone despite the negative reports (which I only experience a few of personally).
Good thread. I love my EVO too. The problems worry me but I still prefer it to the iPhone 3GS I just left, and to the iPhone 4 that is coming out. So far I haven't noticed touch screen issues or screen seperation. But this phone is still awesome. I would replace it though if there was a 4.3"-5" nexus one though
I am coming from a mogul, so things are night and day.
I am very happy with the evo...
yes I have seen wifi slowdown: max 5000kbps down, 1000 up with a only the dot as an indication; Performance degrades significantly if hand is placed over the kickstand area. Battery life is as expected for heavy use (12hrs, blue tooth & 3g data all day, 20% screen brightness). I see the screen lifting ever so slightly and can barely see light creeping though at night, but I got a seidio case which seems to keep everything snug, if it gets worse I'll do the black silicone trick. Barring the fact that I haven't found a file encryption package, or a way to easily back everything up (as i could with sprite backup on wm)......that is ...yet.
I love this thing and use it all day. The speech to text is awesome (I laught to think that I was worried about a keyboard!)
the wifee got one too. she is happy as she has never had a smartphone or anything that could do email/internet. I showed her the problem with the display(slight lifting & setting on a table-top slider), and she gave me a dumb look and said "so, whats the problem? " .... I left it at that.
you will never have a perfect production run, there will always be software bugs, lets home that HTC will improve their processes, make current customers happy (returns & repair and or replacements), and will get together with sprint for an action plan including the release with fixes to the current problems with a easy to root, android 2.2 update.

It's the way people have been conditioned lately...for instance...when was the last time you heard of a happy marriage? but I bet you heard of a **** ton of divorces and unhappy marriages...no one goes out singing high praises anymore, it's always complaints and *****ing.
On a brighter note, yes, the phone has it's problems...it wouldn't be a consumer grade electronic device if it didn't. I personally LOVE it.
No issues here. Coming from an AT&T Tilt, so consider my world rocked at the moment.

You and me both, and I was running android on it, so even with the fps cap, the EVO is faster I can't think of another phone I would rather have right now despite the issues. Have had zero hardware issues and can fairly easily get 20+ hours of battery life with moderate usage. Quite happy...

In all seriousness, I don't know that I have turned on my laptop more than once or twice since I got my EVO, I think that it hits the perfect balance of screen size and pocketability for light internet surfing/email/blog reading/Facebook/etc. such that it makes a full sized computer almost irrelevant. Just MHO.
Yeah... i'm loving my evo! rooted and unlocked nand!

Me too!!!
I’m still using 3 of mines up until I find a good replacement; I’m stuck on the open hardware and design. I really wish that I was good enough to upgrade the internals myself to something better. I’m waiting for D-two to finish up the bootloader so that I can do some full installs of either a light android OS or a Linux gaming/emulator OS.
Great mate!
Looking forward to get it fully working

Not using it daily anymore...but I still love the design.
Comparing it with the S3 I have now...day and night!
A shame the internet/browser is stone age compared to the newer android phones. Love the keyboard.
Had mine upgraded to 128 mb ram to get iGO8 running fluidly on it...have a lot of good memory's with it while using it while traveling trough the States with it! I will never sell it!
Just now I struggle to get the wifi connection connected...
I've just brought two of ebay I miss my exec! Plus one came with free porn!
I just wish there was a php/script editor for windows mobile...

I use mine daily. I have it running Windows Mobile 6.1 with the HTC Diamond interface. Mostly it sits on my nightstand as an alarm clock/radio... but in June it went with me on a trip to Japan... and in early December it went with me on a business trip to New Mexico for a week. I put a TMobile SIM in it, and I left my laptop at home and relied solely on the Universal. It did great! It plays movies, sends emails, takes calls, surfs the web... and it looks so unique I constantly get asked "what IS that?" .
I wish some manufacturer would bring back the clamshell design, I think the Universal is the perfect form factor... the keyboard is awesome.

I just brought mine back out of the closet. Still works great; I think I'll use it again.
killed mine lately- but are trying to have a new 128
It looks like my use/time is over...
It's a sad day for me. My other hobbies, projects, and life have all changed leaving my Universals and related projects behind. I'm selling my last 4 Universals together on Ebay and my 3 Blue Angels. I had just gotten the one I always wanted too, the all black O2 Exec with blue buttons. :crying:.
It's been some fun years, I hope to see everyone if they ever make a HTC Universal 2, it's not looking likely though.

I have had my Universal for over 8 years now, it has been a good device.
A few weeks ago, I popped a SIM back into it, and tried to make a call - no sound! I poked around some more, and my poor Universal no longer makes any sound at all, thru the speakers or the phone. The mic on the phone no longer works either.
It still sends/receives SMS texts, and still connects to the internet via Wifi and 3G, so it is still somewhat useful. If I can get it working again as a "USB Modem", I will keep it... otherwise, it may be time to let it go..... :crying:
Hi,
I bought one today (it was sold as defect device because of missing charger). Hope I will use it for some time.. I totally loved it when I was a teenager but I never had the money to get one (back then I used other nice devices but as you know - during childhood you never had enough money for that kind of stuff). Now I'm trying to get all the devices I always wanted to own (some kind of a childhood dream, devices like HTC Universal, Nokia E90, Palm T/X & Lifedrive and these things..).
But in daily use I have some other devices such as 5C, 6+ and some HTC and Palm smartphones.
I also had a problem with no sound - it was working only on headphones... till today I'm not sure what was the issue, but i tried to overclock processor, cleaning jack input and other stuff.
I am a proud owner of 128MB RAM version, but I don't use it daily
And mine still rocking!
