I think somebody should post all the roms and new updates on one thread that way it would make it easier for noobs to get the things they need and that would prevent all these how to root topics

Not to be a ****...but in my humble opinion, I like things the way they are. Gives noobs initiative to research first and to clarify issues. Throwing a ****load of roms (that are required to change their title already when updated) in one thread is gonna lead to alot of headaches unless you break down specifically the requirements of each one. I can see it now..."oh wow, I just bought this and look at all these roms. Ima load superclean 2.9 since it's the newest on my Ea28 fascinate!". **** noobs still come in here to ask how to fix there phones after flashing another phones rom...everyday. There should be a quiz that pops up asking you a series of questions about what you're about to do. Like a fail noob proof capcha. If you fail...a note pops up and says "read some more dumbass!"

lmao wow by far one of the best ideas I have seen here in the forums.
not that i don't entirely agree with some of the sentiments of the more senior members, but i was a complete noob w/ my 1st smartphone not too long ago so I can see how someone coming into this now after all of the DL09/EB01/EB16 releases can be overwhelmed...
so here's a link to a thread on android central with exactly what you are looking for
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ks-roms-themes-kernels-updated-3-17-11-a.html
... a LOT friendlier with a handful of senior members that seem to be on always to walk noobs through
you won't get as many comments that, although may be true and one should take note of, doesn't contribute at all to what you asked.
Again, everyone is entitled to their opinions on a forum, so I'm not making any attacks toward anyone, but I feel like you know when your comment doesn't help the OP and only helps you feel better about walking into a post that annoys you... and maybe consider that there are people of all different ages and lives that may not allow for hours upon hours of catch up reading

While I agree that if such a form existed... at the end of the day it most really be useless.
People will still have the same questions about this and that rom, and term, and version of phone.. etc... and if you combine ALL those answers into one form, well I would maybe make it too the third or fourth page before I give up and move on. Like a lot of forums now, some are a thousand pages.
I'm sure many people will agree the next scenario, which I find myself in a fair bit. You just soft soft bricked your phone, or something new is released... 20 min later you're sitting down with 5 or 6 browser windows open, each one has 20 tabs, and you have 30 new bookmarks made just case there something you might need later from one those pages.
lol... i tell you guys, its awful messy sometimes.. Especially when a friend gives me a phone he bricked and I've never used the phone before.

Wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to unlock OEM for the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G model G988U1 (z3q) and flash a custom ROM to it. I'm aware that certain models don't allow this and I'm hesitant to test it out from the posts that I've seen describing how to do it. I saw the same thing for my model of the Note 9 and soon after found out that it's not possible for my model of it. If anyone can confirm whether or not I can and provide a link to a thread that includes the sources to what I need or links directly to the things I need it'd be much appreciated.

Guys. Chill out with the pushing for AOSP, CM, and others to push out a GB ROM. It is completely inappropriate, and disrespectful to what everyone here has done for the community. I'm beyond sick of seeing frantic posts left and right about how "ZOMG I AM DYING FOR GB!!!!1111oneoneone" et al.

I agree with the OP to some degree. Also, for all those who use the ROMs, I think that donations should be a no-brainer. However, I don't think its wrong to ask for news, we are all excited about the ROMS and are constantly checking the forums for them. I just don't see the harm in asking (demanding is one thing).

There's no harm, but it's relatively pointless to ask, since rarely are there ETAs for them. Plus, it makes reading through threads to be a bit of a chore when it gets constantly bumped with people asking "When is this coming out?!?!" (also it must be really annoying for the devs).

I have actively not been working on Gingerbread.
I have yet to set up 64bit for it.
I have instead spent the entire weekend in an awesome coma due to multiple alcoholic beverages.
I did pass my finals though. It was great.
Tomorrow, I set up 64bit MM.
Ok.
Now someone move this post to general.

A Dev releases a ROM and post in the Dev Section.
Cool!!
Months later, that Dev has upgraded his ROM 2 3, hell 5 times or lkek now, a new GB OTA is out and another new upgrade.
Is it so hard to just start a new thread??
I HATE that the first post is updated, sometimes barely updated, and then the next 90 pages are about the original release from months ago.....
Half the time, the update log is barely legible (ie. Fixed Cam - well, WHEN!!!?? On WHICH release?? Can you provide a god damn date or something??)\, there's now 27 files to d/l, mods, etc.
XDA has the most brilliant DEVs in the world, and the least organized......
No wonder so many noobs are constantly asking what's the best ROM, etc...
The Dev section is a friggin' nightmare.....

HipKat, I typically agree with you but in this case I have to wonder if you didn't od on your "ungrateful pills" this morning.
My unsolicited advice is: Start developing roms, then make a new thread every time you update the roms you develop.
just a suggestion...maybe when a thread is started and commented on the more recent posts would come to the front. in other words opposite of how it is now. oldest on last page and most recent on first page. the original post would stay on the front page though....

I have Dev'd before, on the Moment:
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/index.php?topic=9644.0
Perfect example though, is the awesome work xHausx has done, but looking at his OP now, it's like wtf is what?? And I'm not being ungrateful, not at all. I'm VERY grateful and appreciative of the work done here, but is that a pass for making it harder to follow?? Magnus starts new threads for all his releases, and that makes it easier for the mentally challenged people, like me... King, too, makes the OP solely about the new release and pushes the older releases down in the thread...
Grrr.. it's just been a bad week....

while I don't necessarily agree with the vehemence of the OP, I can relate.
I wish sometimes there was at least a consistent Thread Title format with date updated info at least. (Examples being Myns, aamikams and virus.)
Just look at date the op was last updated then skip to that date in the thread and start reading. That's what I always do, who am I to complain about what someone is doing for free when they could be doing so many other things.

I think the point is this forum is for all and any improvements to the ease of use, especially for newer folks, is always welcome.
That's why I suggested contacting the user experience admin.
The idea that someone doesn't dev so they should have no input is silly.
That's why I wait a while and let a few people test it and talk about what's new and then try it out myself.

I see your point, but I think it should be a decision made by each Dev. Some prefer to keep all release related posts in one thread. This seems more like a thread format issue. Maybe its the ocd part of me, but I read every post before flashing.

There is a couple of threads started by the main Devs, that have been closed lately.
All b´coz ignorant and stupid ppl keep asking the same quiestions over again.Since they are superiour at devoloping roms, but have a hard time getting same questions all the time shuffeld upon them, time over time, the treads gets closed all the time to us uber users sad disapointment. If i had the power i would shoot all the wrong posters in the head, but i dont have the the power to do that. This is not a democracy, soo think before u post any stupid question that might offend the allmighty devs,or the treads might get closed.Remember,You are in the hands of the Devs, they have ALL the might to shut u down,We are ALL in the hands of the allmighty DEVS.
So ask ur self, can u live without the roms, can your life continue with an originar rom from lets say Samsung?Or are u here bcoz of ur curiosity? Are u here bcoz of the fun of trying lotz of diffrent roms?OR as me,just to try out something else?
I for sure can live with out the roms that codeworkz and he´s friends develop.Would my life be porer with out their roms?Nah dont think so,if there only were TW roms i would still be fine, but the option to choose is always better.Do i feel the need to kiss some devs ass to get googles latest, with all the bugs and annoying faults?Sure not.Im 40 years old,ive learned to hold my breath, theres no greener grass on the other side.My phone will still function as intended even without major Devs roms.
So,do i dont appriciate the work they do for free?Hell yes i do!For free?Well, some of us guys do donate,so for free isnt true.
Do i think Devs should be treated like gods?Nope,i think they should live by the same rules as all of us do,threat others with respect.!

bs or noobish questions on their thread they just close it, instead of warning the person(s)
that are cluthering their thread and just in case off repeating theme selves just expell them
from xda for a period or FOR EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! this is what happens on most forums so why not here.
Imho this is still a forum about open source so why should you be invited only to get a
membership should we all be mail aswell to join?
Maybe cleaning up some (less used) sticky threads and getting more info, about using Q&A and the use off searching threads before asking, to new users would be something to consider ( maybe this can be done by first 20 posts opening a warning screen, that pops up at your screen, when you whant to post something that has to be checked within a scrollable popup screen) yes i know this needs some work by the mods but then youre probally done with noob questions and bs.

Calm down buddy no need to get yourself angry about this.
This is the second thread started by the same user in as many days expressing the same incoherent, poorly articulated babble.
Yesterday's rant about XDA being a dictatorship didn't last long before being locked and I can only hope that this worthless drivel is shut down every bit as quickly.
This outraged sense of entitlement crap is part of the problem and most certainly not the solution. It's not Devs that are making it hard work on XDA, it's people like you.
lol i opened a thread as well the other day.. makes that 3....but invite only would be good...
i admit i know only a little bit about Android and mobile phones, however as i work in a technical environment i understand the risks and what goes into developing.
again as i mentioned in my other thread.. XDA IS suffering as a result and it's name is being dragged through the mud across the net on other blogs and Developer forums. It's embarrassing and frankly I dont blame the Devs for leaving...
I feel like this is all targeted to CM9/ICS development, so let me answer this.
Hey people, calm down. We don't feel like gods at all, I can understand why you're mad, but hey, it's community's fault !
We spend hours and hours trying to bring AOSP experience to this device (and some others), and it's hard given the number of things Samsung doesn't do using Android standards. It's taking a lot of our free time, and gives us a lot of headaches.
That's one fact.
Now, you guys begged us to get an alpha, we gave it to you. What did we get in return ? The right to answers 1000000000 times the SAME questions. We made a Wiki, an FAQ, people STILL asks for dumb questions. They can't use google, they can't search a topic, they can't read, and they beg us to get an answer to their dumb questions. It's okay the first, second, third time... But when it's ALWAYS ALL TIME TIME the SAME, it gets boring, we get mad and arrogant, because we're doing all this stuff for YOU, and you can't even use the Thanks button properly. No, you come here and complain "Why **** doesn't work !!??", and you keep asking at EACH RELEASE if the SAME thing works or not, because you can't read the ChangeLog, or Google for specific terms that are inside it (like the Vendor libraries thing).
When you'll respect us, by doing a bit of work on your side, we'll get nicer. Codeworkx said it's your fault, and he's right.
Hey all,
I'm not trying to force the Devs into anything, or try to pressure them, I've simply opened this thread to see who thinks that it would be a good idea, if anyone is offended by this post, or thinks that they should try to flame me for it, then basically, you can get F****d. I've got a lot of respect for the Developers of the Galaxy SII and I know and beleive that they have the right to both their own opinions and their own choice.
I was looking through Samsung Galaxy S III section of this forum, to see what's going on around there and in the development section members were talking about how the developers of the HTC HD2 all came together and built ROMs as a team and ported Android and Windows Phone 7 OS together.
(Post Here)
Basically, what I was thinking, is why don't WE do that? have all or some of our developers work as a team to create something amazing? I know it's a long shot, but I think if it were to happen then I don't personally think that there will be many things that our phones won't be able to do.
If you guys could just post or vote on the poll with your thoughts/queries, I'd really appreciate it so I can get an idea of just how many people think it'd be something that we should or shouldn't do!
Thanks alot
Beans

Yeah, that's true, but I was just wondering who thinks it would be a good idea, I'm not trying to pressure the Devs into anything, I just think that we could see so many accomplishments come from it
Beans
Not sure but if they want to do it together, they would have already automatic get together and make? ;o
Plus devs have to read this post .

Ok then, I'll edit the Opening Post to let the Devs and everyone else that I'm not trying to pressure anybody into anything, that all good for you?
Beans
HD2 had WM6.5 and we have android
Porting android on it would have been easier than posting WP7 to our phone because android is open source and WP7 is closed

So what use is the poll to anyone then?
Whoever votes for whatever doesn't matter a jot.

It a poll to tell the Developers to DO anything or give anybody any hope, as the opening post says, I just wanted to see how many people thought that it would be a good idea, not because I want to force any of this in the Devs faces, if they want to do it then I personally would love it, but like I said, I'm not trying to push them into anything, I have simply opened the post for my own purpose to see how many people think it would or wouldn't be a good idea

I get that, I'm not dumb.
Btw, you may have omitted a "not" in the first sentence, unless you really are telling the devs what to "DO" (your capitals..).
My point is that since you're not telling the devs to do anything, what does the poll achieve?
For example, 300 people think it's a good idea. Then what? The same if 300 people say it's a terrible idea - so what?
As jj said, the devs decide, and they rarely post on this sub-forum.
A better idea would be for you to learn how to code & then either develop the things you'd like to see for the SGS2 yourself/with other developers in one of these 'teams', or link up with current devs & work on the projects they're currently involved with.
any devs that want to work together are doing so or are free to do so.
Yea its an idea but more one for those moments where you're sitting on the sofa scratching your balls, not for making a thread about

How about a poll?
"How often do you think about your phone when scratching your balls?"
Always, I have no life.
Sometimes, I have no girlfriend
Rarely, my balls don't itch
Never, I have no balls because I'm female/a Manchester United fan
I have no girlfriend & I have a severe fungal infection on my scrotum which makes my balls itch incessantly. As a result, I scratch them quite frequently. Interestingly enough, I seem to be thinking of my phone whilst temporarily relieving the prickliness most of the time.
Scratched my balls while reading the above two posts(true story)

How about assisting villian for B2G first I say. Then see if we can port other stuff. I am not sure on what the request is here anyway? Is it to port SGSIII firmware to SGSII or another OS to SGSII?
Confused ....its late I should be asleep lol
Akhm, you can't scratch balls. The only thing you can do when itching is to pinch the itching area . Sorry for bad english

It seems that nobody knows what to do while waiting for new I9100 firmware releases from Samsung (me included)
What to do in the meantime ... lets make a new poll or write some stupid replies like the one I just wrote
Well, Not sure how long this post will last for, but we all need a place to rant.....So I have opened this post....What really gets on your nerves about the galaxy s2/galaxy s2 forums? please no mentioning usernames of users.....
Well, I wanna start.... WHAT REALLY IRRITATES ME IS.......
1) Users WHO DON'T read forums first! SOFT-BRICK YOUR PHONE?? Tough! The Forums and Each Dev and Even Sammobile tell you how to correctly flash your phone, what kernels to use....and STILL users think they know best, mess their phones up!!!! Everything has a risk....read read and read again!!!
2) The Post count to get into the Development forum, I think, it should be higher, maybe 50 posts, as in point one, users who got no idea what they doing, mess their phones up, and flame and go off topic in dev forum posts.....use PM or the question forum!!!!
3) Users who keep on about the same thing in Q and A forum....WHAT KERNEL HAS THE BRICKBUG??? blah blah blah.....read the sticky posts at the top, use GOOGLE
4) My main bugbear is....maybe a new firmware for a different country (going from XXLPT to XXLPX for instance) and loads and loads of people keep on and on for DEVS (who have a life by the way!) to completely stop dev-ing and base their ROMS on the new firmware version, when maybe one little thing been change between each firmware version!!! GIVE THE DEVS A BREAK!!!!
5) posts that say 'WHY YOU STILL ON GINGERBREAD when JELLYBEAN is a lot better?????' ..... Well, we pay a premium price for our phones, if I want to put a custom GB rom on, I WILL, in my honest opinion (my opinion!) JELLYBEAN is still not 100% stable, people have choices!!
6) My last and final point.... (I rant too much!) 'oh I changed my camera blah blah change DPI blah blah mounted and moved file to /system - and now phone dont work' - Well, Stop messing with phone then!!! Use phone what its created for, AGAIN like all Devs say, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! brick your phone....read the Q and A section....
RANT OVER>>>>>
Anyway, there is A LOT of things I love about these forums, HELPFUL USERS, GREAT MODS, AMAZING DEVS and very concise and understandable guides - even my wife understood how to root her SG2 (and she not a technological person either!)
ANYWAY leave your rants below
Only one thing: people(let us call them noobs for now ) post questions into General section instead of Q&A.. I really hate that...

Rants.
People who think they are better than the rest on here.
People who insist on telling everyone to use the search function when in reality (as shown by the posts) the XDA app is the method of choice and it has NO search capabilities that are useful.
People who state 'read my sig' but again XDA app does not show sigs nor signatures.
You people are most likely young and as such ignorant S. O. B. who think only of your selves with no consideration nor respect for others.
This is supposed to be a global community.
Makes one wonder.

Totally agree with the GB part likes I prefer ICS myself I find custom jelly bean roms are battery killers like. Even on a low display brightness JB isn't finished yet if you ask me. N Yeh give the devs a break they do so much for us n they don't charge for it either so keep yer mouth shut n hit the thanks button

Why would anyone close this thread???
Yeah, problem is laziness and an inability to read before posting. All the rest stem from this imo.
People who spend ages setting up a home screen to post on show off threads who have 3 different clocks,4 battery level widgets etc. Why even try to optimize if you're using duplicates.
( I'm very easily riled)

Noobs who say something or ask a question that has already been mentioned in a thread and then someone says 'please search before spamming the board'.. < logically your also spamming the board so how about being a top notch fellow and helping the person out rather than telling them off. Christ.
What gets me riled up is how the forums, even if there are new versions of the OS, get stuck in an infinite loop and an endless spiral of Groundhog day repetition.
Code:
bool NoobQuestionsAndRedundancy = true;
do
{
Facepalm()
}
while NoobQuestionsAndRedundancy == true;
*Waits patiently for someone to correct his code*
I am sick of
People who fight like dogs for and against some big companies like Samsung, Apple etc.
People who shamelessly bootlick some bigshots here
People who unnecessarily thank some unimaginative posts from bigshots here
People who are arrogant and spiteful
People who insult newbies out of proportion to their silly mistakes
People who judge other people or thread just because of something happened in the past
The list is endless.

- Ridiculous ROM names ... 'Foxhound Revolver Ocelot' for example.
- Coming Soon posts - Post when its done, or STFU
- Huge signatures full of pointless images, lists of old phones and current specs ... No-one gives a f;*k
owwww where to start.
It's not only users, but also devs. hehe it's a rant thread so we can have a go
Devs who post an updated version every single day (full wipe prefered LOL)
Devs who post that they have created the fastest and most stabil rom
Faster this faster that .... my i9000 must already be 10 times faster than 10 quad cores running all at once
Users, all of what you guys have posted
disclaimer : No pun intended
Members who, presumably to make themselves feel better about themselves, spend more time searching this forum for excuses to moan at other people than they do looking for issues they can help out with. And there are a lot of these members.
Geez, since when did xda turn into a bunch of whiny brats?

There is a certain irony in someone whining about people whining.
And, to answer your question, there has been an element of whine on here for some time.
