Ethernet cable with xoom. - Xoom General

I am trying to find out if, when the USB is 100% functional, will i be able to get an adapter for a Ethernet toUSB and get internet working through that Ethernet cable. Thank you

Are you serious?

It would be better to just buy a NEW wireless router than all that adapter stuff

Why would someone want to do that?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Doubt it would be possible since wouldn't there need to be drivers for the adapter built into Android?

I think that's a fair question, some hotels don't have wireless internet in the rooms just the lobby

I wanted to know because some places in European hotels don't have wifi but they have Ethernert cables... I really hoped it would work

why all the disbelief?
The G-tab has a dock available with an Ethernet port, and it is functional. However people have also tried a usb to ethernet adapter and that didn't go as well thread
If you get a dev who sees a demand or needs this personally for some reason then I wouldn't be surprised if it gets made.

we use ethernet-to-usb dongles at my work when we don't yet have wifi working on our tablets. I don't work at motorola, so I can't say anything about the xoom in particular, but I don't think we made any modifications to our tablets to get this to work. So, in other words, yes. It should work.

It is a fair question but unfortunately the answer is maybe for a custom ROM but probably not for stock. The problem, as mentioned earlier, is that support would need to be built into the kernel and it is not something most people would need with the xoom. The main reason I can think of would be to sniff a wired network for troubleshooting and such.
My suggestion would be to pick up one of the ultraportable waps like the d-link dap 1350. (Not an endorsement, just a likely suspect that came up in a Google for portable wireless access point.)

Since you'd have to carry the dongle with you anyway, it may be a good bit easier to pick up a portable wireless router. They make them VERY small and it would (in theory) sove the problem without tying you to a cable.

I would use this, it would be great if motorola put that into their docks

So i bought this tv today, and in every review it says it has DLNA, but my SGS II cant find my tv in allshare. If you gotta do something with the monitor to turn it on somewhere, i cant find it anywhere. Need quick help please. Thanks.

Are they both connected to your home wifi network?
If the TV has DLNA make sure its connected to the router via a Ethernet Cable.
If it has Wifi make sure its using the same access point as your Galaxy S2.
Didnt know it has to be connected to my router. Ill test soon with an ethernet cable. THANKS GUYS!
EDIT: Didnt find any Ethernet inputs, but in the user manual it shows a picture that looks like it has wireless connection, but i cant find out how to connect to the router. :/

[Q] HDMI issues

I have an Acer iconia a500, a rca television, and a micro hdmi cable. After many failures i took my iconia to bestbuy, where they successfully connected my tablet to a lg tv with full mirroring. My tv's hdmi input is working properly, (tested by a xbox connected with an hdmi cable). After conencting the cable from my iconia to the rca tv the message unusable signal remains on the screen. Whats the problem?
Thanks for your help!
I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say that the RCA unit didn't support the a500 native resolution. I wonder if there is a build.prop resolution hack for this.
Are you rommed and rooted?

Did the bestbuy guys used your cable? Try different cable or your original cable to another tv.

I tried to have both the iconia and the tv off, connect the cord to both ends, and turn both on . is that what was supposed to work?
Yes that's what is suggested from vendors.

rca and nvidia
This is going to sound stupid.but I had a 42 inch RCA LCD TV.when i would try to connect my nvidia graphics laptop to the TV same issue.even tried a desktop.using the VGA port.would not work.I added a old sis.video adaptor to the computer.it connected right away.there was a web site I found back then about this.
I still do not understand why it was such a issue.but you are having the same as I had forget about it.I did send a report to nvidia and RCA.but no response.
My tab connects to both my TVs now I gave the RCA to my mother and got a Sanyo.its a OK 47 inch.my other is a 40 inch Samsung led and it Rocks can connect anything play videos on the tab to TV across wifi.as well as HDMI my tab will also use a Samsung wifi remote app to control the TV.
Sorry for your luck if you figure it out I would love to know what I was doing wrong.
Thanks good luck erica

Bluetooth Tethering

Here is my situation.
I have 2.3.7, stock, rooted, using Pete's 2.6.35.14 kernel. I installed wireless tether 2.0.8 pre-1 and set it to use bluetooth tethering. It works great, even via 4G. My issue however, is that it only works great to 1 device. My laptop, or my Galaxy Tab 10.1, connect perfectly fine and there are no issues. If I try to connect the other device (whichever other, doesn't matter the order from what I've tried) it won't work.
If I have my laptop connected first, then on my Tab, it will say it is connected in the bluetooth settings menu, but there is no internet access and there is no bluetooth tethering icon down by the clock.
If I have the Tab connected first, then try my laptop it will also say connection successful but then down on the taskbar the internet icon will have the little exclamation point and it will say no internet access.
Soooo..... is there a way to connect multiple devices via bluetooth? I really really hope so, but perhaps this is just a limitation of the PAN profile in bluetooth, or maybe the phone is only using the DUN profile or something. But in all my searching I haven't found an answer and I just don't know myself. Any devs out there know?
Why not just use Wifi to tether multiple devices?

Because 4G tethering via wifi doesn't work (in infrastructure mode, anyway), unless you pay the $29.99 to Sprint, which I am currently doing. But in my opinion, it is BS that they charge this. And given I very rarely use tethering, I hate paying for it.

You know Pete has the wireless tether fix that unlocks the sprint tethering.

This only unlocks the 3G tethering though, not 4G. Right? Or did I miss where that was also fixed?
I thought on nexus s 4g was free tethering on google own app on 3g and 4g?

Nope, not true. When it first was out, 3G was.... but subsequent updates have stopped even that.
I think the max on Bluetooth tethering is something like 2 MB download so make sure your getting all you can.

No other thoughts on this?
Yeah David279, it probably isn't fast enough to get full 4G speeds, but still plenty fast for the little bit I'd use it.... oh well, I guess I'll keep paying $29.99 a month until someone figures out how to do infrastructure in wifi tether on the Nexus S (or until I buy the prime if it ends up on Sprint).
Have u try the latest beta of wifi tether

Wired tether on NS4G

Hey Folks,
Ever since the NS4G received the OTA causing tethering to not work unless you paid i've been interested in finding the easiest tethering solution (rooted) possible.
I came across android-wired-tether but assumed it wouldn't work because it hasn't been updated in two years.
Well I finally got around to trying it, and I think it's my favorite now. It starts tethering similar to how USB tethering in the android menus using RNDIS and tweaking some settings in the kernel via twiddling stuff in /proc.
So it works with 3G and 4G both. I prefer it to wireless tether since you actually get to keep the phone "charging" while you're tethering rather than burning through battery like mad running a 3G or 4G radio as well as the wireless radio.

There's nothing wrong with wirelessly tethering AND charging your Nexus via a USB cable at the same time. Besides I prefer to just run a ROM with native tethering built in.

There is also a flashable zip to hack sprint hotspot also that works well.

the ics sdk port works great for a wifi hotspot, as well as native usb tethering

Well two comments on that hack:
1) The thing i'm not keen on for that hack is that you don't really know what other improvements you're missing from the proprietary RIL by flashing the old one.
2) You can't tether with 4G when using the hack.

The device gets noticeably warmer and the battery drains quicker than it can charge via the USB.

Err, no, mine doesn't. When I need to tether, it's because my myriad of wifi devices need internet, not just my laptop.

[Q] A case for nexus 7 that accept a SIM card?

I remember seeing things like this that converts a iPod to iPhone.
h t t p : / / w w w .cultofmac.com/58395/case-that-converts-ipod-touch-into-iphone-coming-to-usa (can't post an outside link yet)
Is there a similar one for Nexus 7?
I bought my Nexus 7 when it just came out, and I don't want to spend more just to get the 3G version...
I have seen anything like that.
Get a 3g USB dongle and otg cable, it should work. There are couple of threads about this already, have a look around.
The only way I can imagine such a case is such dongle, just packed into mass of silicone to fit the n7, and that I have never seen, even market for that isn't big enough to be worth developing.

Or perhaps a portable hotspot? I'd love if yourkarma.com was available in my area, unfortunately it's not.
Just like the microsd but with 3g. But a hotspot should be better, easier and more battery friendly
