[q] ridiculous - Wildfire General

How come the dev's haven't released any information about if they are going to root the 2.2 froyo or not? now before any douche bag comes out with the same response all douche bags have(why don't you make it yourself if your so mad) i am knocking the fact that the devs haven't released a root yet im knocking the fact that they haven't said if they are even doing one, and if you go to the unrevoked beta irc(#unrevokedtest) and ask about the wildfire with regards to a new root they act if you just ask for a baby to sacrifice. Most of us just wanna know so that if in fact the unrevoked project for the new wildfire hboot is not happening we can go and get a new phone or try to find someone with a xclip(i don't know anyone that has one in Australia so im screwed)

Point of this thread apart from your rant? Since you very well know everything there is to it, was it really necessary to have one more rant post?
This thread makes you look like a douchebag, TBH

........................................................................ of course there is a reason read, read and then re-read and you will find that i am asking if the froyo 2.2 root is a go or no go

Just my 2 cents: getting a patched phone is no right, it's a privilege.
It is entirely up to the people of unrevoked to give information or not.
They are not obliged to do that.
So just wait and see.
If they release anything, be happy, if not, look somewere else.
They are doing a great job, and I have deep respect for them, investing many hours of hard work for the (inpatient) masses.

I think indeed that the reason why we have a huge number of unhappy users that post about the issue every day is that there is not a lot of communication from anyone involved in the developing process of rooting the device... Anyway I'm mainly disappointed by the HTC behaviour: what is the point in changing the hboot in an old device that you will not upgrade anymore? Make us buy a new device? I'm thinking of changing the brand of my android instead... Shame of you HTC...

I'm fairly new here, and the sense of entitlement is amazing. I'm new to android development, but this constant noise about this is driving me crazy.
I just bought a wildfire but before I purchased it, I did some research first. In Australia thankfully telstra hasn't done an over the air update so I knew that I could root the device.
On this forum there are many warnings about not applying the over the air update.
My advice is that the more noise that everyone is making about rooting the wildfire with the newer version of hboot, is more likely to make the developers ignore the wildfire as a platform.
Another option is that you could try and root the platform yourself. I know I'm looking at it, as I want s-off.
Take care,
Ivy.

Which is exactly the reason stated by the 1000 users who made same posts before you on the same topic.
Of course, your anger is justified. But, apparently, since there is no dev from Unrevoked here, and, in the case there is no update from Unrevoked as is the case now, what can you and I do about it? Rant? Ok, rant ahead as much as you want, but, I am 100% sure ranting wont get what you are looking for.

They have said on twitter they are looking into it

Maybe if we all donate 1 euro/dollar and make a contest of it.

No serious...just wait...I believe in Unrevoked.
But they aren't robots, they got a live,go to work, play with there children,...
Please everybody wait and you get rewarded !

This is a very good idea! I begin to collect funds for the contest, you can put your money into my paypal account, I also accept credit cards and checks ...

Maybe its harder then we all think to find a solution....i bought an xtc clip.....make it s off, ruu with an older 2.1, then i use unrevoked.....then its free. It cost money....but its a hobby.......

Given up on waiting for root..

Well, I hate to say this but I have given up waiting for root as an early leak user. I feel I have the right to post this due to 1, helping wherever I could, 2, contacting paul to even get the ball rolling after jcase mentioned him 3, offered donation for a solution etc...
I love my eris but see all the neat things I am missing out on. When the evo comes out, I will be jumping from pageplus to sprint... i am sure that will be rooted and if not... im still better off.
Thank you to all who have tried their best.. I think this is one instance where the phone beat us. I am annoyed that we do not have root as it allows us to better use our own phone.
anyway, best of luck to all...

I dont blame you homie.. If I had not managed to get a second eris after I jumped on the leakv1, I would have gone nuts watching all the badass ROMS and hacks get released and have no way to use them.
Ok everyone can quit complaining about the 2.1 update! I just checked Verizon ERis Software Upgrade page and its announced that there is an update coming soon! I know theres no date but at least it is now finally up on their site. If you dont belive me check it out your self & for those who doubted it would ever come this just shows that paicence is a virtue.

Check out both pdf files. The Benifits of Software link states all the updates for 2.1. Enough said?
Good riddance.

Just short out the battery connection on the back of the phone with a small piece of aluminum foil, take it in to Verizon, explain how your phone just turned off and won't turn on and voila! You get a new phone the next day running stock 1.5, ready to be ROOTED!
That's what I did after installing the 2.1 leak and realized I couldn't get root. Let me tell you, my rooted Eris running Evil Eris v2.0 with the overclocked processor is far greater than my friends Moto Droid. I hope you make the right decision.
P.S. Don't be a bully.
There are always risks involved when upgrading a device, I learned that with the PSP and now other people are learning it with their Eris. Crying about it (in the wrong forum no less) is doing nothing to help.
A root will likely eventually be found, patience is the key. As soon as you just can't stand it anymore and upgrade/change device/etc you've potentially lost something forever.
One thing is for sure; I find it insulting that people feel they have a right to complain about being on leak, nobody held you down and forced you to flash anything.

It's not overclocked yet, it definitely doesnt do anything at the moment. And as far as shorting it out, I took mine into verizon complaining about the speakers all cutting out glitch and they didnt even look at the phone and swapped me out a new one in 10 minutes. It's not that hard really, just find someone in the store who looks like an idiot. All the smart people are in the back anyway.
Or You can not be a cheapskate and just Buy a new one..

Not everyone has lots of money and buying a new eris outright is about 500 or so, used on ebay they go for over 300. speaking for myself I know I'd rather have the 3-500 to spend on bills and things then buying a new phone.
Even though I am kicking myself for not waiting a bit longer, I don't regret upgrading to any of the leaks. It gave me 2.1 months before everyone else. A little more patience never hurt anyone.

Seconded. But this thread is useless. If you're tired of waiting on 2.1 leak root then get a new phone, try and get a replacement or just sit there and use the phone like it was meant to be. There's nothing wrong with 2.1 v3 in my opinion. Telling everyone you're leaving because of it is just asking to be trolled/flamed. I suggest a mod closes this thread or something.

Agree, 2.1 is so much better than 1.5. Plus, if you want to play with your phone and "customize it" a little there are home replacements in the market you can try. Helixlauncher is really good, and I just found one yesterday on android forums, real nice. It's called Zeam, http://www.mediafire.com/?jtzjyoklenk
Little to no lag and dialer is lightning fast.
So while you might not be rooted, it's nobody's fault that root hasn't been found yet or that you (op) flashed the leak. I want root too, but have the patience to wait for it to be found. There are some of the best devs on here working on it, only a matter of time.

my point wasnt i was unhappy with anyone here. I love 2.1v3 and yes, its leaps above 1.5
Just annoyed at what I am missing. I do not want this topic to be considered trollish..

Lol not like it would hurt, that **** already full of spam and beggers haha
it was somthing in the bootloader that found that the incredible does not have. But rest assured that its bieng worked on and im sure we will have root.
nah, it wasn't the bootloader
looks to me like he flashed a leaked image based on where he starts the video and seeing how he doesnt show us the bootloader or anything involving recovery/fastboot. My guess is that since this was an evo prerelease is that someone at htc with the shipping rom weasled a su apk in there while also having the test keys to sign. I never see anyone talking on irc and i assume we are months away from root.
edit: after looking on the website it seems as if they have done deeper work than i assumed. I believe there may be similarities in what they did and what we need. He mentions that he used his linux background and knowldge of hacking bootloaders. maybe something is in store for us unlucky incredible users
nope it has been stated that it will not work for us. And it looks like my bootloader theroy is wrong..... mmmmm i wonder what it could be.
are you judging by this little footnote? "At this time, we believe that this specific exploit cannot be applied to Incredible." - taken from grack.com . If they did anything to the bootloader i would assume an exploit can be derrived from this method. we dont need to use their entire method. From what i hear their bootloader is a higher version than ours which should make it more difficult to crack. If they ever release how they did it Im sure we can find some hope to help us.

Knowledge is power and not sure what was up your rear when posting but any bit of information on semi similar phones never hurt anyone. Seeing how this isn't a post about an accessory app theme maybe could go into general but this is more of developmental news then general.
Well, I at least feel better knowing others are going through the same "pain" I am faced with. I'll donate my time and resources (I still don't have the Incredible thx to it being sold out everywhere... maybe I will try the Best Buy closest to me... although they kind of stink, they don't even carry any Apple computers while most ever other BB does) to get this fix0rz for the peeple!

Nothing to do with test keys, no leaked images. There is no way to modify it to the incredible.
lol, I knew it was going to be rooted before, but I had some hopes it could have been used to help with the root for the Incredible. Oh well, such is life. I'm sure there are some Verizon Android developers that are still working on this....All the give me root and where's the root and other I want root spamming is not going to help with anything other than the continuous spamming of this section.
I really hate this waiting for the Unlockers/Root for any phone as it's nothing but spamming.
Just be patient and it will come. Then it's time for you to show your gratification to the developers for their hardwork that I'm sure most do in their spare time and not as their source of income...

Any Devs working on Eris 1.49 S=ON Root?

Just looking for a list (if any) of Devs who are actively (or passively) working on Rooting Eris with the 1.49 bootloader.
jvward has a wave thread here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703219
where he is diligently tracking any information regarding the root status of Eris.
As a part of this thread, we wanted to gather information on who is working on the root and donation links (where possible).
Let's not let this thread get ugly.
if there is already a thread why are you posting another thread?

No. not too much. I watch the exploit sites but noting has shown up and I am not digging through the source in hopes of finding a bug. Mostly because i have rooted my phone and am am not that altruistic.
One thing to keep in mind is that the eris was never rooted in the true sense of the word. the Devs did nothing technical to root the phone. A pre-rooted leak was obtained. HTC has this thing locked down very well.

There are threads on Root Status. For all intents and purposes they are dead except for a trickle of despondent users looking for answers.
There is no thread asking for a list of Devs working on root.
If this thread irritates you, don't look at it. Don't go looking for a fight; it's not productive.

Yeah, this is the biggest problem in my estimation. No real root was explored which leaves a good portion of Eris users swinging in the breeze.
I was happily rooted until I cracked the screen on my phone. My replacement came flashed with 2.1 and a shiny new 1.49.0000 S=ON bootloader. As a result I am twisting in the wind waiting for a root that will never happen because I fear no one worth their weight in gold is working on it.
I guess the only hope is that if Froyo OTA (if it is ever released for the Eris) will require a new bootloader and push the Dev community into action. One can dream, or go back to my iPhone *shudder*

HTC has already said they're only bringing phones released in 2010 up to 2.2, so it's fair to assume we're SOL. FWIW, my iPad was jailbroken within 20 minutes of me owning it, while my Eris is woefully unmodifiable.
Mostly you wont find out who is working on rooting the 1.49 bootloader simply because the Devs who might be doing so dont want to be bothered daily/hourly with questions about it. Thats why alot of the threads about it have died down, no one was answering them.

I'm sure i will take heat but this is bullsh*it. Not the keeping quit because they don't want to be bugged but to think there is a team of people working on it and not posting their results in a bit naive. So far we have had "confirmation" a race condition exists when NOBODY ever got any (non root) version of the leak to get abd running in recovery. we have zinfabs bug that nobody has found a way to exploit and that was over a month ago.
The last very concerted effort ended up in the Tattoo being rooted and was very public throughout the whole process.
Please... Someone prove me wrong.
If you are sitting here thinking that root is just around the corner i fear you may be wasting your time. I am sure once a development occurs it will be plastered all over the forum.
I hope this didn't offend too many people and it in no way was meant to diminish the contributions of all the devs who donate their time energy an resources to the Eris.
Regards
Personally, I don't think anyone is actively working on rooting the Eris. In the case of the race condition that the Incredible had, it prompted some activity. Or, the issue that zifnab posted about 1-2 months ago, that got some people poking again.
I think the best hope is for someone at HTC to leak a rooted ROM again.
Seems to me like my next phone is going to be a Motoral Droid something because these Droid Verizon HTC phones are getting no action. Just saying, HTC was like no way in hell that anyone will be able to tinker with our phones on Verizon lol

They've no doubt been trying but at what point do they decide it's not worth the effort ? Isn't that their choice to make ?

Is it possible that wildfire froyo with new hboot will be unrevokable ?

Is it possible that htc is so advanced that they made wildfire with new hboot impossible to be OWN3D by UNREVOKED ?
Will it be ever possible ?
Just curious.

Sorry but i was not asking about "how long do we have to wait...."
I know that they are people like us and they have other stuff to do and they do it free....
I was only asking if this is possible that it now or someday will be too hard...
In the current state of things, I think that it was, it is and it probably always will be a cat-and-mouse game. Remember the TIFF exploit on the PSP. Who would have thought about it? Hacking a console with picture? Seriously.
Despite best practice, there will always be some shortcuts taken and slack programming. Or the plainly unexpectable; rooting through a malformed wifi packet maybe?
The problem we face nowadays is that we have many hungry cats that get impatient for their food.
Having read about the Alpharev and unrevoked, it does look that this is just a question of time.
I think personally (probably because I know nothing on the subject) that making/getting the tools to sign any HBOOT (PS3 style) is the way to go.
I too have a 2.2.1 phone which I bought like this on eBay, and the wait is frustrating to say the least, but I would rather wait a bit more than stare at a brick.
I too have a 2.2.1 wildfire, I was unwittingly duped into thinking updating would make my phone better. < how wrong was I.
Looking at the positive side at least I can research and learn about Android/rooting/custom ROMs before I dive in and perform them. So hopefully no problems when I eventually do manage to root it
The unrevoked team said on the10th that they are working on it. Today we have the 30th and yet still no updates from them. The new security system is probably too good for them and maybe they will not be able to root it....
Look every system can be exploited, Some are easy and some are hard, just give them time. I have 2.2.1 firmware as i got the phone new just over a week ago. I have tried to root it myself and failed (Linux geek maybe) but andriod is new to me so now i am going to wait.
So wait and research on how to use custom roms i am its fun and give the people making the exploits time, they are doing it for free and have normal lifes like the rest of us.
Me to on OTA firmware 2.2.1!
I never root before and android a bit new for me as well.
I had following up xda to learn how to root but now people say my 2.2.1 cannot root unless someone update hboot first.
I would make a small request if it's really kick-off can someone make a video/link (like xda-ians post in SGS) how to root using hboot step-by-step.
Thank you,

Why? We are not saying that when rooting is available, all people must root their phones. There are lots of people now (like me) who updated or bought the phone with 2.2.1 and now we can't root, and I really want to root again to be free to modify some things or overclock, AND CHANGE ROM.
So, there is no reason for what it should stay unrootable.

What you said is a closed-mind opinion... You can't even think another way that yours, and that's sad...

You may call me closed minded, it`s your call, but, I think that people need to learn to live with their decisions.
I`m not talking about you (but if you feel targeted, it`s not my problem), but If you don`t think before you act, you need to pay the price. Think of it this way:
Someone gives you a gun, and tells you that you can shoot anyone you want. You take the gun and shoot some people, but the police catches you. You`ll say "but that man told me I could shoot people with my gun, he`s to blame". NO! you are to be blamed, you decided to shoot those people.
Same thing with the 2.2.1 update. HTC gave you the update, but they did not make you install it. YOU installed it! It`s your choice. Consequences? You can`t root (for now). Don`t come around and whine about not being able to root.
The update was leaked 2-3 days before the official release. In all the topics, people said: "don`t flash it, it will kill/make you unable to root", but it was hopeless.
When and update announcement popped up on your phone, what did you do? Did you think"oooooh, it has an OK button, so I bet I must push it!" or did you think "Now, let`s do a little google search, see what is this update all about?"
If you answered the second one, good thing, you`re normal. If you answered the first....... I`m not gonna comment, because you will say that I`m a mean, close-minded man.

First of all, I'm sorry, I didn't really mean to offend. I was saying that you might get in my/our situation or position. The exact reason for what I flashed the 2.2.1 was because I wanted the stability of a complete official ROM to flash the OC kernel. At least to have something stable for sure and then try some new ROMs.
That's my exact case, and each person will have their reasons.
And for the record, I didn't see ANY message about "don't upgrade". You are more "senior member" if you want to say, but I'm not stupid. Could you just accept I made a mistake, as we all do? And now I am quietly waiting for unrevoked bringing the solution, without yelling "unrevoked please/go go go/ **** no unrevoked yet/ etc..."
As I always try to, smile

yes but it is the same question that has been asked a thousand times that you didnt feel the need to search for yourself. look like 3 posts down from your thread, then like 2 more down, then a few more down, notice anything? yeah those are the other morons who asked the same thing that has been beat to death because they felt they were to special to search.
i dont think we think were "to special" bro.
thanks for pointing me in the right direction though, thats all i needed.
So it can't be done or is it being worked on?

Currently it cannot be done. The source code for the ROM will be released soon and soon after you will have more ROMS, better kernels and rooting. Until then its a wait period for you. Its good practice to wait after an update (OTA) is released to the wild because you lose root and essentially you are stuck with that ROM until things are released etc.
Hope that helps and welcome to XDA.!
How long....?
I'm a n00b and I know there is no root method with a 2.3 OTA if you are S-On. The bootloader is locked.
Question: Whats a typical time-frame for somebody to do the hack? Days, weeks, Months.
From what I gather and read this work-a-round is going to be harder.
The reason I ask is that I am about to kank my Comcast wireless service. Increased from $26.99 to $49.99. I think I'm better off paying Sprint $30 for the hotspot. I am better off waiting a bit, then root to get the free hotspot tether to work.
FWIW - Maybe there should be a sticky titled "EVO 4G 2.3 Hack Update! - Sprint: 4 , XDA:3" One post per day, saying just "nada, zilch, nothing, - patience grasshoper"
Anything to see the status is No Can Do.
People will be mercilessness with asking the same ridiculous question.

i would say average is a few weeks to a month based on previous ota getting rooted. however google seems to have done a good job at plugging all the holes and it may be considerably longer. no way to know how long really. just depends how much scouring it takes to find an exploit. take the rageagainstthecage exploit, that wasnt discovered until about 6 months after froyo was release iirc
I get aggravated to, but the guy asked the question in a decent enough. non-naab way.
Truth is, if you have 2.3.3 and you're S-on, there is no root, currently.
Give it some time, be patient and use the time to read as much as you can and get an idea of what you want and how you want to set it up once a root method is developed.
Specifically, I'd learn APS2SD/SD Card partitioning, Which ROMS suit your needs the best and how you want to set your screens up

op asked in a manner befitting someone who has not searched or tried to answer for himself hence is why he got some flammage. Schlenkerla, however, asked in an educated and obviously researched way which earned him a proper reply.
no root? How about another option?
ok, i have been reading every single day on how to re-root my evo. Now, im not asking if there is a root method yet, however i need to ask this.
Is is possible to revert the hboot, firmware, to a previous version. I an unable to install a ruu OS because im s-on of course. I would just like to know if there is ANY way to revert back to 2.2 so i can just root the normal way and start flashing roms daily again... It can be complicated, im highly technical, but i cant find anyhting talking about a way to do this.

not possible at this point. the 2.16 hboot will not allow an older version to be flashed.
Crap, that sucks! thanks for the info.
I am guessing the same goes with a factory reset.
Btw - what all does factory reset do?

Forums also don't need the same question asked in 50 different threads.

Or people running around being jerks on it. If a complete stranger asked you the same question for the 50th time in real life would you blow up in their face about it? No. So why would you on the internet? The internet makes people feel empowered to be rude because they aren't face to face. Let's just keep in mind that person on the other end is a human being, and we all are lazy and all don't search for stuff ok?
I can't tell you how many times my husband has said "I can't find the ketchup" and I say "did you look behind the milk?". The answer is always no, but that's where it is!
Maybe its just guys that have the problem with not knowing how to search.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Because if someone asks you a question you've heard over and over, they may not be in a position to do a simple search for the answer before they ask....

Look, I am not a flamer (at least , not where noobs are concerned). I normally just ignore questions that have been answered 1000 times. Believe it or not, I am actually a pretty polite dood, especially to people I don't know. That being said, the thought process that starts with "everybody does it" and ends with "fvk it, i'll just ask instead of bothering to search" is just wrong. Feel free to search through every thread I have ever started and show me were I started a thread asking a question that had already been done to death. Do it. People get flamed because others want the questions to STOP! They WANT noobs to be too afraid of flaming to ask a question. I was gone on vacation, and away from from XDA for basically a solid week. During that vacation, I managed to smash my phone's screen. As soon as I got home, I put in for my replacement, and immediately started searching for root methods for the newest OTA. It took less than 10 minutes to determine that there was no news...with the exception of this, which obviously is not very helpful.
In short: Don't start a new thread unless you are SURE that there is not already a thread about your topic. If you decide to do it anyway, don't complain when you get flamed. It is your own fault. Human nature is no excuse for anything. We are humans and have the power to observe both ourselves and the world around us, and we have the ability to modify our behavior based on those observations. For instance, I was absolutely positive, when I began writing this response, that at least one person would feel the need to flame me for it. Go ahead. I can take it. I put my big-boy pants on.
