Just found an awesome work around to wifi tethering crapping out. - Droid Incredible General

So as many people know and experience after awhile wifi tethering likes to crap out. Well I have discovered two things that help with this. The first and best is to tether without it plugged into a power source. I can tether for two hours straight with no problem if it's not plugged in. But tether kills the battery so I like it plugged in. After a little bit of that my data likes to just start turning itself on and off now stop. I found out If I force close phone.apk this stops and the phone acts like I just rebooted it (The only other thing that has fixed the 3g messing up while wifi tethering) . I hope this helps someone.

My theory on data connection loss on leaked 2.2

After some investigation, I believe the data connection loss for me on 2.2 seems to be related to WiFi. If I have WiFi on and connected and leave the wifi area (elevator) it seems that's when the issue occurs. To test it out, I have been turning off Wifi while still connected and I'm heading out. So far I haven't lost data connection since i've been doing this and I specifically did things that led me to lose data connections in the past.
I think the software believes the Wifi is still connected when its not and thus the 3G data doesn't come on properly.
I'll post back if I have the issue but I'm continuing to try this and hope it works. Nothing and I mean nothing else appears to be an issue for me apart from this thanks to fixes and my good luck it seems.
I have had the same issue. It doesnt happen all of the time for me. It happened right after installing the ROM. I rebooted and it solved the problem. Since Friday, I have had it happen twice. Prior to replying, I turned off the WiFi and the phone switched to 3g without any problems. I'm trying to reproduce it....I think my problem occurs after I have been charging the phone with WiFi on-like it gets stuck. I will not know until in the morning. Like I said, it hasn't happened but twice.

Further testing and I think my theory is true. No issues still. Usually by now I have the problem.

My 3G constantly shuts off

I got the DX the day it came out and really like the phone(minus the BS bootloader), but I've been having an issue with my 3G shutting off while I'm listening to the app RadioTime. I listen to ESPN radio every morning on my way to work and, but ever since I got the DX it cuts out every 5 - 10 min and I have to hit pause then play to get it running again. I know for a fact that it's not an issue with the app or even location because I've gone the same route using the same app with the Incredible and Droid1 before that with no issues. I've tried everything I can think of, such as leaving the screen on and changing the battery profile, but nothing works. I know others have experienced this problem, and it is so annoying, it's making me second guess keeping this phone.
Make sure Background Data is enabled and that the data sever shuts off during peak hours.
That's all I got. Sorry.
I second that, cypher. It fixed my 3G problem. Mine was doing the same thing with Pandora and I finally realized a week later that Background Data was the culprit. Now, if I knew how to fix the wifi.
Yes this is happening to me also. It kinda sucks, my GF with an ERIS gets perfect signal where I do not. Bummer.
My background data is enabled and I'm using the Performance setting on the battery manager.
Maybe try turning off the WIFI ?
I've noticed the same thing when using pandora. In fact my phone gets hot when this happens. It is always in a low signal strength environment. eventually it will return, but it takes a while.

Problems connecting to gtalk

Anyone have problems connnecting to gtalk? It takes countless retries and forever to connect to gtalk after a phone call, switch to and from 4G, and switch to and from wifi. I know it takes some time to connect to the server through a different connection etc. but everything else works (market, gmail, maps, anything that requires internet). It sometimes take up to 2 minutes to connect to gtalk. I've tried stopping and restarting the service and nothing. This is a real problem for me because 95% of my texting is through gtalk and it's annoying to have to wait so long after I switch to wifi, 4G, or receive a call. People on Verizon don't seem to suffer from this even though they use CDMA too. Gtalk connects almost instantly.

I have the same issue, no idea what the problem is and no luck with responses it seems
I think this is something on googles side.
My gtalk will sometimes refuse to connect no matter how many times I restart it.
If you close the application and restart it, it might help, but otherwise just give it some time and try to sign in.
posted from a EPIC4G.
YES!! mine has the same problem..... hate it... it's so inconvenient for me..
it better be fixed soon.
I switched from the EVO a week or so ago. I never had ANY issues with gtalk on either CM6 or stock sense. On the Epic I'm noticing some weirdness. I haven't had any issues as far as connecting taking a long time, but I do notice that I'm getting random disconnects. I think it may have something to do with us still being on 2.1. That's just a guess though.
The gtalk service seems to be rather flakey. I'm not sure what's the cause, but I just sign out and sign back in until it works.

[Q] Wifi Issue

I looked around and could not find a thread about this.
I have a rooted fascinate with dl30 (froyo). Everything else is running fine.
But with Wifi on, my connection to the internet is fine until I stop using it. I have the wifi setting to never turn off.
But after about 5mins or so of leaving the phone alone my connection to the net seems to be lost. I will get no incoming emails, my connection to gtalk is halted. If I unlock the phone i can not pull up any webpages, gtalk is still disconnected and if i try to send an email it just sits there.
All of this remains that way until I turn wifi off and go to 3G. Then everything works again. If I turn wifi back on right after, everything works fine again and will continue to until I leave the phone alone for 5mins or so.
any thoughts?
If you have a thought but need more info from me feel free to ask.
Am I really the only one with this issue on this forum?
i just started getting this issue today.... i hope there is something that can be done.
I noticed it happening to me also. Very random though, only happens about once a day or less.
Same here.

Did it happen on 2.1? I am partly concerned because I ebayed the phone with 2.1 about 2 weeks ago. rooted, then installed froyo, so I didn't really get to see if it happened on 2.1, or if this is part of froyo. Was also concerned because a friend of mine, Nuance, also did the same thing, and came over to my house and had no wifi issues.

n00b needs help

Hello all,
Got my tf300 about 2 weeks ago and am loving it. I have one minor issue that I would love some input on. Whenever I am not using the tablet for a couple of hours and wake it back up, the wifi gets stuck on "obtaining IP address."
I have it set to keep the wifi on when sleeping but it still seems to cut out. I can make it get connection by unplugging my modem and router for a few minutes and then plugging it back in.
It's nothing big but just a little annoying to have to do this every time I want to start a new session.
Thanks in advance!
PS I am an uber noob with tech stuff so please dumb it down for me.
