Motoblur 3.0 - Droid Pro General

Anyone have any info on an update? Did some google searches but didn't find anything.
My IT dept says Verizon is going to start to push the next update, 3.0 in the next week. They say it fixes the calander sync issues and mail not syncing until you open the mail app.
I really hope this is true as the phone is unreliable right now.

Do you have any info if that update is connected to an update to Android 2.3... ? Things are looking like 2.3 is definitely coming for the Droid Pro but question just remains to when it will be out... I am hoping that this might be the moment!

I am 99.9% sure this is not an update to android, its just a motoblur update. So sorry, no gingerbread. I came from an HTC Aria on AT&T. I had Gingerbread on that. Its not really as awesome of an upgrade as Eclair to Froyo was. In fact other than the animation when you turned the phone off I really didn't notice any difference.

Yea I am not too bothered about the changes for the OS itself.. I just hope it includes a new Baseband version cuz in the moment, the 3G performance is nothing to write home about, as I am based in the UK... Other than that, when the Motorola PRO will finally hit our shores, there should hopefully be a Verizon-free ROM available somewhere with an EU baseband version.

Any indication about release date?
Hero support? That's actually the bad thing about hero. We will have to check if HTC decides to upgrade to the new android, while with Magic it will keep being supported..
Why would they update the Magic but not the Hero?

Noob.
Please research before posting.
A vanilla Google os gets updates ota through their provider, while HTC has to make a hero build seperate

cuz HTC made their version of Android using SenseUI so its not directly supported by Google. HTC will have to cook us up and update, test sense and release
I wouldn't worry too much about Eclair just yet because:
a) The Eclair development SDK hasn't been released yet.
b) We don't even have Donut!
Of course, if Eclair does ship before year end, there is always a chance that HTC might decide so skip Donut entirely, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Regards,
Dave
motorola are to start shippng phones running 2.0 from the beginning of november so htc may decide to skip donut.

i reallyyy doubt that motorola will be shipping soon
id put an estimate at the years end
Could you not install 1.6 or 2.0 without HTC sense though? Whether it came from HTC or from Google.
Sorry if I'm being a "noob" but we don't all spent all our time playing with our phones and reading up on them. Some of us just like making old fashioned phone calls.

1 thing to know btw.......
what exactly sense is? is it only the fancy thing with curve menu system and 7 home screens? or is it something integrated part of the android OS without which the OS cant even run?
i want to know this because for last 2 days i have been running without the sense home screen and it feels good with that simple and plain homescreen.
The Sens is the user interface that you c on your hero. i don't like the sens uit it slows down the phone. all the htc software for android are really really bad. i prefer the android plane OS.
HTC don't want to release the hero kernel, if they release it we will be able to install android OS without all the UI from htc.
you say you're running hero without sense home screen. you maybe don't see the home screen but it is still using your ram and running services on the background.
i'm looking forward to android 2.0 it looks great. and if you look @ www.droidoes.com you will see that verizon is gonna release their android 2.0 in november. but i still don't see any sdk for it what is weird :s.
the only thing we can do is to wait and see what happens next month

My guess is that the November date is just a date for a press conference or announcement of the phone, with the actual release date comes a month or two later. Besides the Android 2.0, it is nice to see that the hardware specification of smartphones is finally moving forward, i.e. manufacturers finally move to faster CPU, more memory, and bigger screen with higher resolution, rather than keep recycling the Qualcomm 528Mhz CPU and HVGA screen that powered to many devices over the last few years.
Is the locale language in menus, keyboards and dictionaries, a part of sence. Or would that be possible to have in a more native android version (like magic).

Personally, I'm dying for 1.6 because I feel handicapped & shackled by the soft keyboard, and urgently need the Gesture support from 1.6 to do Graffiti-like handwriting recognition. If Gestures were implemented as a shared lib that could be installed to 1.5 in addition to being an inherent part of 1.6 I wouldn't mind as much, but as it stands with 1.5, text input is just painfully frustrating, and has really put me off from exploring things I'd otherwise be spending lots of time playing with. I shudder to even think about trying to launch a Perl or Python app from the shell one painfully-fighting-with-prediction-and-losing-badly letter at a time. Prediction and autocorrection might be tolerable for t3xt msg3z, but falls flat on its face and dies a horrible death when you're trying to type something in camelCase with inline.punctuation.

The original T-Mobile US G1 firmware (Android 1.0) had a voice dialler! Are you sure you're not thinking of the text-to-speech engine that's in 1.6?

Where are the...

I'm a bit confused as to what to expect from the update released today. I was under the impression that live wall papers, and friend stream would be in this release.
How can we tell what is missing from this release that would normally be part of a "standard" Android 2.1 release?
Install the SprintUpdate2.zip Damageless uploaded.

FriendStream wouldn't be in a "standard" 2.1 release, it's an HTC product.
Thanks for the reply. So, everything that is supposed to be in a "standard" 2.1 release is in there? What about live wallpapers, and gallery? Is that too someone else?
You're a little confused with all that's been hacked to work on our 2.1 leaks. Live wallpapers (LWP) were made for the nexus and ported over (after a TON of work since our hardware is not made for them). Friendstream is from the newer rosies/HTC models and was never promised to work on sprint, iirc it doesn't play nice with our framework.
Sorry to say that if you don't see it in the official release, it's not meant for the hero. Good news is that if you didn't run the RUU and lose root, you will get these features in almost every rom.
Thank you for your replies. I have a much better understanding.

Magic with froyo 2.2?

There were some rumors that some of the Android devices of HTC will not receive the newest update to Android Froyo 2.2. While this is partially true, we’re happy to say that HTC Magic is not included in that “black list”.
As announced by the second largest French mobile operator SFR, the device will receive the desired Froyo soon. Some believe that this will take place even in this month. T-Mobile has also plans to update myTouch 3 G which is basically the same device to Froyo by the end of this year.
Let’s say that the device looks to handle the novelties quite well, considering the fact “of not being that new”. Good job!

so correct me if im wrong... but if the htc magic gets official android 2.2 does that mean the amazing developers here are going to have a field day with it and make it even better and more customizable than the actual creators of it?
I sure hope so would love to have a nice custom rom with 2.2 that works and with tons of bonus stuff pre installed.
Maybe you haven't noticed, but the amazing developers here are having a field day since the froyo source was dropped in to AOSP a few days ago. CM6 should be just around the corner.
i know they are already playing with it, but with a copy from the actually phone i imagine it would be easier to mod and play with since they dont have to port and do all kinds of ridicules things to get it to work on another phone.

Remember that the 32B Magic is the ION/ADP2, everything you need to get a fully working ROM is supplied in the AOSP. What you're suggesting is probably more relevant to devices like the Hero. At any rate, we'll probably see CM6 or some other froyo ROM before a shipped one.
ok well you seem to know more than i do so i hope a 2.2 near perfect rom comes out soom. im so excited lol
Yeah me too, Cyan's feed is the only reason I'm checking twitter atm, really looking forward to speed increases

New Android Update

So I have been reading around about the new android update Gingerbread. The details are that it should be released in the next day or two to nexus one users. So my question was how long till other phones get it? I mean it is open source therefor it should be on the internet therefor it should be a matter of just getting an update, am I correct?
I wasn't here when the 2.1 to 2.2 update happened so i'm not really sure how this whole thing happens but some of the features in Gingerbread look amazing so I would love to get it ASAP.
So anyone with any info on this matter please speak up, and thanks in advance.
For custom ROMs like Fission it could be a couple weeks to a few months. Transitioning to basically a new OS does take time.
For stock ROMs it will be even longer. Motorolla will need to update all the Blur apps and put them through extensive quality control testing before the update is pushed out.
I wonder whether it will be possible to get Gingerbread working with the current kernel (since the kernel can't be changed for the time being).
I know that the kernel version on Gingerbread is different than on Froyo (2.6.32 vs 33 or 34), but I'm not sure whether anything important has changed that would prevent Gingerbread from working.
I know the Kernal/Bootloader is locked but how does that effect Gingerbread? Will we still be able to push it ourselves (I.e. leaked build or even just the update itself) or will we have to wait for Verizon/Motorola to release an official update?

Bell desire Z 2.3

Bell has starting pushing 2.3 to the desire z now, this is great news for us canadians. I just got the update its downloading right now.
It would be great if someone would post this in the development forum. I am really interested in getting my hands on the radio.
Just downloaded and installed. Honestly, I don't notice a huge difference (although I've only had my Desire Z for about two weeks). It seems a lot of the surface (UI) features of Gingerbread are something we already had with Sense (text selection, etc).
Here's a list of 2.3's features
I was sad to see that we don't get the awesome 2.3 CRT effect. Has anyone noticed any real upgrades since updating?
if any of you who updated still have the firmware package in the Download folder of your SD Card, I'd love to get my hands on it. I only seem to be able to pull the 1.84 firmware on my phone. I'd like to try my hand at making a Bell specific rom for our phones.
If you could upload it somewhere like megaupload and post a link, that would be pretty swank.
i dont feel the need to get it. i already have a gingerbread based rom so no need phone quality is also very good so no need to change radios too
carrier updates suck, period. my brother got the 2.3.3 update for his DHD (2.2 previously) on the Telus network, nothing's changed except for some UI differences and no CRT animation >.>..
my DZ on the other hand, has the new 2.3.5 with MIUI and it rocks his DHD into the ground =D
my point? carrier updates really shouldn't matter if you're on a site like XDA since devs beat carriers all the time.

Given that I don't have enough faith in my tech savvy level, I'm somewhat reluctant to root and flash it (at least not while the phone is still under warranty). I'm a lot happier with my phone now that it has GB on it, especially since the OTA update back in March absolutely killed the performance. With the new upgrade, performance is noticibly improved, with faster bootup times, app access and response, and better battery life (so far).
Mind you, the March OTA update REALLY killed the performance, so this might just be relatively speaking, but still.
I grabbed a copy of the OTA zip off of my SD before installing. PM me if you want it and I'll send it through.
I'm using my Unlocked Bell Desire Z on Fido network and I'm not getting the update. In fact, I didn't get the March update either, but that was a good thing...
Please post the zip file! Thanks!
I haven't received mine yet. I'm trying to find out why but no success.
My GF is using the DZ unlocked on telus and she received it.
boringegg - Did you root or flash your phone?
just got it!
update seems okay, for stock, but i'm wondering about the integrated VOIP / SIP "internet calling" (wi-fi only)
i tried with a couple of my accounts and it times out before the call goes though. anybody have success with this? not sure what i'm doing wrong since i can at least make calls with csipsimple nimbuzz linphone nettalk, but would be nice to use the build in service.
