EVO prices on eBay? - EVO 4G General

I've got 3 EVOs I would like to sell and was wondering how much can I expect to sell these for on eBay? They are in almost mint condition and all 3 have been rooted. Two of them are hardware 003 and the other is 004.

I was probably thinking about starting bidding around $250.

Even ebay has a search function

EVO's from sprint are still $450 plus tax = 480.. and on ebay they usually sell around those prices if their new.. being the fact that yours isn't you should drop the price but around $250 would be cheating yourself

So maybe 300-350 for each is more like it?

Search for HTC Evo on ebay, and under your search options on the side when the results come up is an option show "Completed listings" check this and it'll show you auctions that have recently ended. This way you can get an idea of how much they will sell for...

Thanks... I did that and on average, they sell for low to mid 300s. I think it's good, because I will be able to pay for the ETFs and still have some leftover money.

I've sold quite a few phones over the years. One thing is don't set your initial price too high, it'll cause lots of people to wait till the last minute to bid, and they don't get their thrill of outbidding other people, or they're less likely to pay attention. Pictures, pictures, pictures. The more pictures showing the shape of your phone the better (well mostly if it's in great shape). If you've kept them in a case and screen protectors the whole time you've had them mention that, it lets people know you cared for them. You will most likely have to pay off your early termination fee before anyone else can activate those phones so be ready for that.

Thanks for the tips! I will just pay the ETF right before shipping them out. I guess I will also give the buyer the option on whether he wanta to keep the phone rooted or in stock condition.

I forgot to mention that's good to give them the option of leaving it rooted or not. You can double check with Sprint that your ESN is free and clear before shipping, but make sure you write down those numbers on the phone, just in case the buyer gets it and it happened to me with my Pre, they were told that the ESN was locked. It took an hour on the phone with Sprint from me. At first the buyer thought I swindled him, but I assured him that wasn't the case and I would work it out with Sprint for him. I even had Sprint do a conference call with me and him on the line. Hopefully you don't come to that, mine was some fluke that left the phone as showing activated in the system yet Sprint couldn't find where it was activated.

just search completed auctions that is the best way to get an idea what to expect.
you'd probably be better off selling it on craigslist though, no fees, straight cash, and yo don't have to worry about idiots filing paypal chargebacks claiming something is wrong with the phone.

The craigslist route ain't bad cuz you can even meet them at a Sprint store and they can pay you while you're there for them to activate it, but even though it's free, depending on where you live you will have a smaller market to sell to. If I remember correctly you're leaving Sprint cuz of issues in your area, so your market may not be the best market to sell a Sprint device too. You pay ebay a percentage because they created a system and site that gets your auction looked at by the largest amount of people you can.
I live in Southern California so the local craigslist market is quite large to keep prices fairly close to ebay prices, but it may not be the same for you in Virginia, plus having to deal with all the individual answering of emails and people low balling you will probably not be worth the 8% cut you have to give Ebay.

the ebay and paypal fees are far more than 8%. list your item on craigslist or even ebay classifieds and if you can't get the price you want then put it on ebay.

http://www.ebcalc.com for fees calculation..
On a $300 item, figure ~$40 in fees (including ebay, paypal, shipping). That's ~13%. If you sell it through the forum, you save on ebay fees ($22 on a $300 sale).
Also, don't skimp on shipping when you send this. If you're using usps, at least get signature confirmation if you don't opt for insurance.
If you ship ups... well, don't you'll get raped. If you ship fedex home/ground, it's cheaper if it goes to a business location, and if you want signature (paypal requires this on over $250 sales for seller protection), insure the item for $500, it'll automatically add signature required for free.

Rooted G1 for sale. 1 week old. Mint cond. $400

Well, as much as I love the handset itself I'm just not computer savvy enough to make Android do what I want it to. So I thought I'd offer it up here to try and save some money for listing fees before putting it on eBay. As of today I've had it for 1 week. Absolutely no scratches or damage and still has factory plastic cover on the screen. It's currently running modded RC30 v 1.31 with Carbon Glow theme. Comes with original box, instructions, 2 Gb micro SD card, and everything that came from the factory. My price is firm @ $400 USD SHIPPED. Will ship anywhere worldwide *except Africa*. I generally use USPS Priority Mail with insurance. I requested the SIM unlock code from T-Mo about 3 days ago so I expect that to show up any day now. Please reply via PM or email me at [email protected]. Thanks for looking.

You might want to lower your price. I bought one off CL almost new with a extra battery, case, box etc for $225. They seem to go for under $300 new.
I'm very well aware of what they're going for on craigslist. My ad is aimed more for those overseas that don't have such easy access to them.

I'm not trying to "cheat" anyone. There's nothing dishonest or misleading about my ad. I know for a fact that with my willingness to ship worldwide I will easily get my asking price if I choose to put it on ebay. I simply thought I'd offer it up here first. Clearly, that was a poor decision on my part.

Considering the tone of some replies..that's exactly what I was hoping for. I'll simply take this as a lesson learned about this community and take my business elsewhere. Then there will be no need for further editorialization about my character or intentions.
Thank you to those of you with cooler heads that chose not to be a **** about it.
Honestly I think the problem is that you are asking full market value for something that is opened and without warranty.
Think about it, why would you buy a stereo from some guy off the street even if he was a friend of a friend, if you could get it for the same price from the company which not only guarantee's it but offers 30 day return policy and a manufactures warranty?
Honestly I have no problem with you selling it here, it isn't against the rules. But I think asking 400 for the phone is steep especially considering this is the market where we know what it is worth and how to find them.
I don't see what I'm doing as being any different than what people are doing with the Iphone 3g. You can get a brand new one with contract for $200 from AT&T. But if you've ever tried to buy one outside of AT&T you'd see that no one's willing to let an immaculate one go for less than $400 or so generally. Add on an unlock and jailbreak and that can take it up much higher still. Is it "cheating" to want to capitalize on supply and demand circumstances? An item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. If no one here thinks my phone is worth $400..that's fine with me. I know there are others that would gladly pay what I'm asking. Obviously, they just don't frequent this site.
I never said you were cheating I was explaining why I think they are pissed off.
Your iPhone vs G1 complaint is like Apples vs Oranges. They are in no way similar. The iPhone can not be bought unless it has a contract. Of course I would pay more for a non contracted phone, but the G1 is 400 with no contract. Wheter it is unlocked and jailbroken is irrelevant since the iPhone can't be software unlocked only jailbroken.
The only criticism I can give for me personally is that I thought you would have at least given xda members a discount. I mean what is 20-40 dollars gonna hurt?
I agree with you in that someone would pay 400 dollars... but I also believe that if you were really trying to help a developer get one you would be giving us a little discount from what you sell it on ebay. But that is just me.

Just to let you guys know

Sprint will not sell you the Epic unless its activated in store, so for you unboxers, take your cameras to the stores if you were planning an unboxing video
we'll see what the shack has to say about that
Why do they need to open my box and finger freak my new $500 phone just to activate it? Use the ESN# from the box and call it a day!

I believe Sprint mean it must be activated under a plan, not necessarily activating the phone itself. So if a person tries to come and buy one at full retail under no plan, they wont allow that.

Nope, the phone MUST be activated or it will not be sold, period lol. This is coming from an internal memo I received today
Quoted per memo "no cold sales allowed"
I don't mind them having to activate the phone on spot. It means that it will be usable more quickly.
But the dude at radioshack IS NOT going to be the one who opens the box and takes off the plastic etc. I will most likely go outside the store and take a moment to open it, then let them activate it.
My phone was sent to me with service.

talk to the rep explain your situation, sure they can make an exception for the commission they are getting
Activating it in store and a cold sale are two different things. Cold sale means it was sold to someone at full price and they don't have an account. You CAN however, sell the phone attached to someone's line, without actually turning the phone on.
One caveat, however: Good luck finding someone willing to do this for you. I know I wouldn't.

That's funny. Like the commission is anything decent on one line. I have to do 50 activations a month, and my commission check is barely decent.
Not that you would want to pay full price from Sprint when Amazon has a better deal on the buyout price.

Anyone know how much the Hero is going for in stores? I want to add one to my current plan. I have only been able to find it listed in a few places:
BestBuy - $99
Sprint - $250 (150 with M.I.B)
Radio Shack - Not sold
Wal-Mart - Not sold
Wirefly - Not sold
$99 from best buy is the lowest I found. Is that high?

Here in Puerto Rico. In RadioShack it is Free.
I see them on craigslist for between $100 - $150. Why would you use an upgrade to get a Hero?
You can sometimes even find them for 75 or 80 on craigslist. Just make sure call Sprint to make sure the esn is clean before u hand over the cash.

it should be !lol sucks when new customers get better deals than loyal existing customers.
Amazon has a seperate wireless store (beta) that gives the option of upgrading or adding additional lines. For some reason Sprint is not part of the store. Supposed to be added "soon".
Sprint is selling refrub version online for $79.99 outright. Should be a better option than buying from craigslist or use your upgrade credit.

That's why when u buy off Craigslist u have them meet u at a Sprint store to check the esn, or u call sprint with the number. Ive bought plenty of phones (5) and computers (3) off ebay and everything was fine. I've saved enough money at this point that if I did get screwed one time I would still be ahead.
But to support ur point, obviously its not for everyone. If u don't know what u r doing, or r not very tech savy (in order to ask right questions or deal with problems that do arise - though I would assume most people on xda r at least moderately, if not very tech savy), buying from a normal store is better.

I think that the moral of this story is don't waste your upgrade getting a hero. Only get one from craigslist if you got balls of steel and know what your doing. If there is a refurbished phone from sprint for an outright price of 79 bucks get that. I'm sure it will have some kind of warranty.
I bought one from craigslist first of the guys story of I signed up for sprint but didn't like there service so I went back to at&t soon proved to be a lie when after a few minutes of talking to me he was trying to sell me four different phones from sprint. Everything worked great on the phone but when I got back home I noticed that the screen was dimmer than my other hero not much it was the only problem but it bothered the hell out off me. I ended up selling it for $125, 75 bucks less than What I paid for it.

O man Ebay? If someone wins your item the money is put on hold until they receive the phone or leave positive feedback (whatever comes first). The smarter thing was to place the phone on Craigslist. You also dodge the eBay seller fees.
Don't know when your rent is due but good luck.
Sent while sitting on the toilet.
Be prayerful and I hope it sells for more than enough
Unless you used your rent money to buy the phone in the first place, Im not sure if I could sacrifice my phone for rent, Id rather just pay it late.
damn, never used ebay before? that sort of makes it a bit sketchy... CL may've been a better idea, but it sucks dealing with people in person too.
I'd rather get evicted than give up my EVO.
I really hope it works out because if rent is due the 1st of the month you may be SOL. I believe that when eBay bought Paypal the payment hold policy changed.
If you charged for shipping that will have to come out of your pocket. I always recommend the craigslist route because it's more of a cash in hand route. If you sold the item today for example and shipped it the funds get released 24 hours after they leave feedback. You can go to PayPal's website and manually upload the tracking info and then call them to see if they can do a courtesy funds release for you but who knows what they'll say. By the way I hope you have a Paypal Mastercard Debit (it's free) because if not you have to wait a few more days to transfer the money into your bank account.
Just be careful next time and allocate $20-$40 bucks a paycheck into a separate account for the just in case situations. If you are really in a bad situation and have a 401k you may be able to withdraw some money but you will get taxed heavily. I personally would never do it but if you really need the money it could be an option.
I'll buy it
Let me get some pics though

Paypal is instant unless the person is paying with a credit card but if the person buying it has paypal it is instant payment.
I was just reading the finer details about it and it does say that they may hold the payment until positive feedback is issued from the buyer. It said they like to do that for new accounts, which i am =\

eBay has some drawbacks, but you may get more for the phone.
With CL, you have to name the price you want, then hope somebody wants it for that price. Plus there's the "flake" factor. Waiting for them to come and they never do, etc.
I had a several year old HP wireless printer that I was un-able to GIVE away on CL earlier this year. Your EVO will definitely be more in demand however.
eBay is more of a, I don't need the money tomorrow kind of thing. However, you can go to their help section and read "Canceling an auction".

I've had Paypal for about 5 years and the rules still apply. It's only instant if I were to send you $50 today because it doesn't involve a middle man such as eBay. I would just sell it on Craigslist and take the hit on negative feedback. It will mess up your feedback rating but you'll have the money faster.
If someone on XDA buys it and sends payment then it's instant but you still have to wait to take the money and transfer to your bank account.
I have a Paypal mastercard debit (free) so that if I get payment I withdraw with the debit card and deposit at a chase atm.

As an ebay user for years, I can testify to the Paypal BS. I am a trusted user etc...all that good stuff. When I sell anything I still have to wait for positive feedback etc. It can get REALLY annoying. So basically I have to wait for the other party to leave feedback, even though I am trusted/100%/paypal power user/confirmed etc. It gets annoying when you just want to transfer ur money.
That being said, there is only 1 way to get your ebay reputation up....and that is to sell... I think I am still bounded by the delayed payment because I only sell things randomly...I am not a store
That's odd, when ever I sell I never have to wait for Payment. The funds are never held for me.

It is probably because I only sell things like 3 times a year max. When I asked them about it, it was more of a hassle than to find out why. Everything was eventually released etc, but still annoying to wait.

If your still under contract you don't really get such a great deal off the new EVO 3d .
Has Sprint even given their full retail price yet?

I was wondering that cause those of us under contract wouldn't get a good deal on the phone for 150 off a 500 to 600 phone

I mean its pretty much a given that the phone is going to be around $499.. radio shack is selling it full retail for $499, Amazon for $469 so Im guessing sprint will be in the $450-499 range. But I dont get why theyre the ONLY people that HAVENT given a full retail price yet considering its a damn Sprint phone.
Nice I'll have to check that out on line
Does anyone have any idea how long Sprint usually offers its buyback price? I'm curious how long the price will hold.
I've searched on google for answers specifically about sprint buy back of the evo 4g and this was unfortunately the closest i could find. Anyway, here are my questions. Thanks in advanced.
1. Am I assured $150 for my phone or do "they" determine the value an give you an amount they choose. I'm skeptical of actually getting the full amount.
2. Can I keep the micro sd card and charging cable? That'd be awesome if so.

All you need to send them is the phone. You keep everything else.
I've read in other forums that they give you a flat 150 dollars as long as the phone powers on. But I'm not positive.
Hmm... ok, cool. Thanks.
I went into Radioshack today, and they said I can call Sprint, because they'll push my upgrade to 1 year early (for a limited time though) and I can buy the 3D for $199, or if I sell my phone to them (Radioshack) it'll only cost me $50
Sprint gave me $150 flat for my Evo.The Rep hardly looked at it..all she did was power it on,took out the battery to put the S/N into the system and hand me a receipt for $150 that's credited to my account. It took excatly 90 sec.
I have since moved to the Sensation on T-mobile.
